Good afternoon. Im katy tur. It is 11 00 a. M. Out west and 2 00 p. M. Another east. We are in whats considered the final day to cast the ballot. That is 96 hours if you want to count it that way and polls show him in the lead but joe biden said he is fighting for every last vote. The former Vice President is about to speak at another one of the drivein rallies, this one in iowa. Polls there show a close race and biden is hoping to flip the state back to blue. A reminder the state went for barack obama in 2012. Hell then travel to the rust belt for two more events today shoring up support in minnesota before trying to rebuild that crucial blue wall in michigan. Meanwhile President Trump is trying to expand on the narrow 2016 victories in the upper midwest. He is in waterford township, michigan. It is his second visit to the wolverine state this week alone. After this he travels to wisconsin and minnesota for events later today. And the president is still making it clear he is running against the virus. Today he mocked joe biden for descrubbing the difficult winter ahead being honest about what Health Experts have been saying about the virus and 90,000 americans tested positive for the virus yesterday. 229,000 are dead. Joe biden is promising a long, dark, painful winter. Did you see him at the debate . Did anybody see the debate by any chance . No, he said long, dark winter. Oh, thats great. Thats wonderful. Thats just what our country needs is a long, dark winter and a leader that talks about it. Just because you dont talk about it doesnt mean its not going to happen. Cases of covid19 are spiking in swing states across the country including in iowa, wisconsin and michigan where the candidates are campaigning today. We know 82 million have already voted and enthusiasm is high and it is so far sustained. In texas more votes have been cast now early than the total cast in the state in 2016. And in florida, a woman in labor refused to go to the hospital until she could vote. But who said enthusiasm will ben in it . While candidates fight for votes the president seems to be bracing for a loss and canceled the Election Night party at the d. C. Hotel and tweeting conspiracy theories about a joe biden win at 3 00 a. M. In the morning. Series of tweets at 3 00 a. M. Anyway, joining me now from all over the country, lets get to the team of reporters. We have monica alba with us from michigan. We also have mike memoli and jonathan lamiere. Monica, you are with the president. Every day its another rally where he starts to talk about how the virus isnt a big deal. Is he again trying to defend this idea that if he doesnt tell the truth to the American Public about where we stand with the virus thats somehow better . Reporter it seems that way, katy. He is speaking from personal experience. He says i had the virus. I recovered. Look at me. Theres nothing to be afraid of. He had the care of probably the best in terms of anyone on the planets access to medical doctors, so did the first lady and his son and trying to make the case that people should not let this dominate their life but the collision of the campaign trail and the coronavirus continues a continues and thats not something to escape with the rising spikes of cases in michigan and wisconsin where he heads to next and the president does continue to tout vaccines and therapeutics. He continues to promise a vaccine is coming, weeks ago. He did that two weeks ago and before that and theres no indication that a vaccine is near finalized. Dr. Fauci, the Infectious Disease expert, said its more likely the end of november or december but distribution would be much later but thats the president s seemingly closing message to dismiss the coronavirus pandemic, trying to make people feel okay about being in a crowd like the one behind me. We just lost monica over there in michigan where it looked quite cold. Mike, you are in iowa. Not a particularly warm place right now. Joe biden is about to speak there. This is one of his busiest days on the campaign trail. Am i right . Reporter yeah. Absolutely, katy. He is being introduced right now and will be next on stage behind me at one of the drivein rallies, the first of three in three different states and it is notable that we are in iowa at all. You think back 270 days ago, that was the night of the iowa caucuses, we dont know who won but lost and that was joe biden finished fourth place, a distant fourth at that and there was a lot of questions of whether hell make it to super tuesday let alone to become the nominee of the party and here he is certainly making the case to democrats that he can help win back the blue wall states, was key to the general election argument to voters here in iowa and now talking to the campaigns on both sides trying to get a sense of where things stand. The Biden Campaign sling they have a path to victory and you judge what they think and value by where theyre going and where is joe biden going in the final four days of this race . It is yes to iowa, a state more probably in the lean trump column still but very much one to help especially in a Key Senate Race and then going to wisconsin, to michigan with president obama tomorrow and then the final two days all about pennsylvania. So theres no doubt that they think those blue wall states that put trump in the white house are going to be key to keeping him out of the white house and putting joe biden there for the next four years. So joe biden is getting introduced right now. Well go to him in a few minutes. Joannie ernst is facing a tough reelection and if he is able to lift the democrat into the seat that would be considered a success. Again, we are going to joe biden in a few minutes. Before that, i want to play for you something that don jr. Said yesterday on fox news. I believe we have this sound bite. Can we play it . You know, we dont have the sound bite, unfortunately, but he was telling laura ingram he was looking on the cdc website and said the virus is not a big deal and totally under control. Again, this is part of the campaigns effort to pretend like its not a big deal. Reporter in this case it is like son, like father. This is their messaging throughout. That the president day after day suggests that the nation is turning the corner on the pandemic and thats simply not true. We are seeing record numbers of cases e cases each day, surges of infection across the states like wisconsin that could decide the election. Nearly 1,000 people are dying each day from this disease. But the president and his team are trying to whistle past it. Thats not what they want the Closing Argument to be about. Theyre trying to push on the idea of the economic recovery, suggesting a vote for trump is to continue those gains, to restore the economy that happened before the pandemic while that one for joe biden to lead to a socialist style depression. That is the argument the campaign wants to be his Closing Argument. And thats what we are seeing here which is a marked difference from the last week or two in 2016 when again grading on a curve here he was relatively disciplined. Largely stayed off twitter and at the rallies hammer home themes of immigration or trade or pulling back america from overseas entanglements and undeed pounding on Hillary Clinton for allegations of corruption and he is unable to be that disciplined this time around. He is delivering the messages but it is lost in a sea of grievances about the media, china, any other subject and certainly hes not levels with the American People about the situation here with the pandemic. Jonathan, mike, monica, thank you very much. Joe biden will not be able to flip every or even most of the obama trump voters back to the democrats on tuesday but tremaine lee spoke to black men saying they stayed home four years ago. Joining me is tremaine lee. Im compelled by the voters because when you look back to 2016, there were 4. 4 million obama 2012 voters who didnt vote in 2016. I say this number a lot on this show because if those voters came back to the Democratic Party and decided it was worth it to vote this time around the Election Results will likely be much different. Thats right, katy. I recently spoke with five different black men from five battleground state and talked about a range of issues but mostly focused in on what happened in 2016 and they had a range of reasons why they didnt participate. They didnt feel like they had a dog in the fight or the vote mattered necessarily and felt that Hillary Clinton just wasnt the kind of candidate that spoke to them. The democrats didnt come to the communities and really engage with them but lets take a listen from their own mouths of how we got to where we are now. None of you voted in 2016. So i wanted to get a sense of why. Pierre, as the youngest man in our panel, you were eligible to vote last election but you didnt. Why not . I wasnt feeling either candidate to be honest. It was my experience that the vote didnt matter and if everyone thought the way i thought and voted we could create a change. Derrick, you said you didnt vote in 2016 because you didnt feel you had a dog in the fight. What does that mean . I didnt feel that either one of them was dealing with the views that i had. And now, you know, by not voting i see what i allowed to happen and people like me and watching the local politicians, you know, how they maneuvered themselves has really got me involved. Jason, you are in North Carolina. It is almost a tossup at this point. It can go either way and i know you were a sanders supporters before but now supporting biden. Was that a hard leap to make . Definitely hoping again, you know, that biden just at least attempts to do the things that he says but i would like to see someone who at least comes across like they care about all people the same. If something happened to a black man, i want to see that same type of passion and concern that you would have if it happened to a white woman. Robert, youre in michigan. When you think about the last four years and how the state narrowly went for donald trump, do you have any regrets of not participating in 2016 . I have the utmost regret in not participating in 2016 but just like some of the other fellows said, i didnt think i had a dog in the fight. You didnt have anybody representing our community. And now it seems like we have someone or we have a system in place or people in place with the groups that are getting involved and that makes me feel more included. You know . And the people who have us not included now we have people to fight against. More black men and black women and families. Something, something has to change . Something is changing. Not has to change. It is changing. Whether they want to or not. After four years of thinly veiled racism from the part of the administration, racial division, Police Violence and on and on, these voters said it is time to get off the sidelines but they want to make sure joe biden is who he says he is. They want to reform and an agenda aimed squarely at the black community and especially black men. Katy . If theyre going to take the time to vote they want to make sure the voices are heard. If voters say, this is a lot of voters in the country, millions of voters in this country say they dont think its worth it or the vote changes anything and part of convincing people that your vote matters is taking up the issues that voters care about once you get into office. I believe everybody, everybody should vote and if more people voted we would have a different looking government. Thank you, tremaine lee. Joe biden is speaking in iowa. One of the best cities of des moines in the upper midwest. Lets go there. Its a patriotic duty for gods sake but donald trump refuses to listen to science. He politicizes the race for a vaccine. Instead of planning for its safe and equitable and free distribution, he refuses to provide schools and Small Businesses the resources to open safely and stay open. Im going to bring together republicans and democrats to deliver Economic Relief to working families and schools and businesses. The congress has already passed this legislation. Its sitting there. But he refused. He got spent all the time this summer in the golf course bunkers or down in the white house bunker. Think act it. Ive been around for a while. I bet even senator grassley has to acknowledge i dont remember any other president in a crisis where theres a disagreement in the house and the senate between democrats and republicans, didnt even try to bring them together to deal with this. The house back in may passed a heroes act which would allow businesses, schools to open safely. Because it costs money. You need sanitation. You need ventilation. You need masking. You need distancing. You need separators. It all costs money but instead 1 in 6 businesses now out of business. Because he wont act. Ive said before, im not going to shut down the economy. Im going to shut down the virus. [ honking ] even before the virus, donald trump had already blown it. He inherited a Strong Economy from barack and me but like Everything Else he squandered it. Frankly. I have dead with guys like trump my whole life. So have you. Guys who think because they have a lot more money theyre better than you, look down on you. I know. I got a little bit of a chip on my shoulder. Coming from an Irish Catholic neighborhood where it wasnt viewed as a great thing. When i read something about how if im elected president im going to be the first nonivy league person to occupy the white house in a long time. Well guess what. Like somehow i didnt belong. If i didnt go to the ivy league. Look. Ill say its about time that a guy or woman that graduated from a State University is able to sit in the oval office. [ honking ] because if im sitting there, you will be, too. You know who really built this country. Joe biden really touting his working class roots there. Telling voters that he is relatible, he understands where theyre coming from. He came from where they are from. Again, he is in the upper midwest, trying to win back a number of states that joe biden turned red in 2016. Iowa is one of them. The race is quite close. Donald trump logs like he has an edge but again joe biden is there where theres also a very Close Senate Race and joannie er ernst is trying to hold on to the state. If the democrats take that seat it would be considered a win for the democrats. Next Vaughn Hilliards one on one, this is a one on one with Arizona Senate candidate mark kelly. Hes up against Martha Mcsally. What is kellys lastminute push to flip this red seat blue . Plus, pennsylvania plans to count mailin ballots up to three days after the election but the secretary of state there is still preparing for the gop to challenge that decision. Shes going to join me. First up, though, montana where covid cases are spiking. Nbcs garrett gilbebe gutierrezd access where they know that the virus is bad and it is deadly. Kind of im broken. Im broken. Hospitals across the country are once again overwhelmed by a surge of patients. In montana, hospitalizations are up 25 over the last 2 weeks. That state has one of the worst positivity rates in the nation standing at 10 . And as hospital icus reach capacity, Public Health officials are urgently pleading with residents to provide covid prevention guidelines. Nbc news was given access to one of the hospitals, inside we see what it is actually like to work and be treated in a covid ward. And as you would expect, it is hard and it is sad. Heres nbc news correspondent Gabe Gutierrez from billings, montana. Reporter montana reported the second highest total of daily covid cases, just yesterday. And now, were hearing dramatic stories from Health Care Workers about the rise in the cases. It is clearly taking a toll. Reporter st. Vincent health care in billings, montana, wasnt always among the front lines in the war against covid. It is now. Im a good nurse. And the nurses i work with are good nurses but we are broken. Reporter Joey Traywick said hes personally held the hands of 23 patients of his died. After the first one passed without him. I came back to the room at one point and she had passed. By herself. And i thought, im never going to let that happen again. If i have to stay late after work, if it means coming in on my day off, theyre not going to pass alone on my unit again. None of them. Reporter the hospital granted us access with the permission of patients families to show the devastating impact of the virus. Billings is a city of more than 100,000 people but the facility takes in critical paints from across the state. This is one of the hospitals three covid units. At least 14 patients here are on ventilators right now. Its a minute by minute struggle. Its been shocking to me how fast its accelerated in the last couple weeks. Reporter dr. Chris spanjian works in the icu. A lot of times the 12hour shifts feel more akin to 13 and 14hour shifts. Theres just too much to do and we cant get it all done. Reporter how close are you to being at capacity right now . We are close. We are very close. We can probably find beds but its going to be at the expense of noncovid patients. Reporter she came out of retirement earlier this year to rush to new york. Now she is back. The virus followed. This patient may or may not survive. Reporter she showed us one patient still intubated. Another had just came off his ventilator. Hes improved. But that doesnt mean hes out of the woods yet. He is still very critical. Reporter the toll here is mounting. Both for the patients and their caretakers. Joey traywick has selfisolated for months sleeping in his basement away from his wife and three kids. How hard is that for you . Its a huge impact. Reporter this is why he does it. Late today he visited one of his patients in recovery out of isolation. He gets to get off of the covid unit on to a different floor where he can have a visitor perhaps. Its like we won. Reporter and, katy, some of what i saw inside this hospital reminded me of the early days of the pandemic in new york and many of the Health Care Workers we have spoken with this week say theyre frustrated that more people around the country have not been Wearing Masks and think some of this possibly could have been prevented. Katy . Im so happy we got access to that covid unit and thank you to the families who allowed us access, as well. It is very important to see the devastating toll of this virus, to understand that it is deadly. It is serious. It is something that nobody should be going through just because others dont want to wear a mask. If youre not willing to protect yourself, protect the people around you. It is so simple. Gabe gutierrez, thank you so much for doing that. Republicans tried and failed to block an extension on mailin ballots in pennsylvania but that does not mean they wont try again. Pennsylvania isnt the only state where its happening according to the new york times. More than 300 lawsuits were filed in over 40 states all run filing, a gop attempt to make it harder for americans to cast ballots. Thats next. Good morning, blair. [ chuckles ] whoo. Pennsylvania will have up to three days after the election to count mailin ballots that arrive late after the Supreme Court rejected the latest effort by republican to narrow the window for accepting ballots. State officials are separating them as a precaution because they do still expect more gop challenges after election day. The Trump Campaign and its republican allies have worked for months to curtail mailin voting in pennsylvania as it was a critical within for mr. Trump in 2016. Recent polls have shown the president trailing joe biden. Joining me now from pennsylvania is pennsylvanias secretary of state kelly bookfar. Madame secretary, thank you very much for joining us. There are a number of lawsuits across the country. The mailin ballots are an issue for the republicans. Tell me why youre separating out the ballots accepted post8 00 p. M. What do you expect to happen . You know, thank you for having me on. This was just this is absolutely the most safe and secure way to make sure that all our ballots are protected. Last thing we want is ballots segregated and make sure every ballot in by 8 00 p. M. By election day is fine and counted right away so this is about effective election administration. As you said the law of the land is still that those ballots received by 5 00 p. M. On friday following election day may be dou counted but we want to protect everybody so the county is segregating the ballots but every ballot we expect to be counted. So initially when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of allowing the vote to go to friday as you just said, it looked like a win for democrats who were fighting off the republicans on this but when you read the opinion you get this from justice aly to and joined by others. Theres a strong likelihood that the state Supreme Court decision violates the federal constitution. So when he writes that, what is your expectation . So let me start with this and this is why what our message to the voters, any voters watching this, get your ballot in today. Ignore the lawsuits. Ignore the noise. Get your ballot in today. That is the absolute best way to make sure that your voice will be heard and the vote will be counted. So look. As you said, there are three justices that felt that this decision violated the federal constitution. That may or may not circle back again and thats why our message to voters is get the ballot in today. Theres also some issues with the post office and Postal Service data filed on wednesday in federal court. It shows that mail deler a dramatic turn for the worst. Were going to putt it up on the screen. 42 of philly mail is taking longer than five days, in philadelphia 42 of first class mail longer than 5 days to be delivered and 33 2 weeks ago and 3 in january before a series of changes by the Trump Administration led to a national slowdown. I know youre telling all pennsylvanians to go to a polling place and vote, drop your ballot off at an election headquarters or go to one of those drop boxes. Are you sure, though, that the people who have already sent they mailin ballot by mail before today theyre going to make it by election day . If not by election day, by next friday . Yeah. Look. Our focus is exactly what you said. We have actually all week been saying dont put your ballots in the mail. It is the safest way to make sure that your ballot will be counted to drop it off in person and thank goodness in pennsylvania we have more options for that than before and philadelphia has secure drop boxes all over the county and 17 election offices, lots of opportunities across the state for voters. 23 county i think that have multiple dropoff locations so we urge every voter get the ballot in, drop it off in person. Thats the safest way to make sure and weve been in touch with the Postal Service but again were a couple days out, right . Drop it off in person. Let me ask you this. Other states including new jersey you can track your ballot to make sure that it is counted. They will send you a notification to say its been continued. Do you have that in the state of pennsylvania . If you dont and somebody is worried do they have a resource to go in and fill out a ballot with an affidavit . Yeah. Absolutely. So we have a tracking system. Votes pa. Com. You put in your name, pull up your status of your ballot and tell you whether its been received. We have automated emails that go out. 2. 2 million ballots have been received and compare that in 2016 went he have had over 2. 2 million cast in pennsylvania which is over 73 of the ballots sent out so we are in very good shape. Im very confident that the overwhelming majority of ballots are going to be received in time even if theyre put in the mail and i dont want niche doing it anymore. Drop it off in person. Yeah. Thats what everyones saying right now. Or you vote in person. We are too close to tuesday. Pennsylvanias secretary of state, thanks so much for joining us. And the fight over mailin voting deadlines is not isolated to pennsylvania. There are lawsuits in 44 states and those lawsuits Fall Along Party Lines with democrats trying to expand options and republicans trying to restrict them. In nevada there was lawsuit. Democrats say it speeds up the count. The gop filed another suit seeking detailed information on the vote counting process. Both of those suits are still pending. In North Carolina republicans asked the Supreme Court to block the state from extending the deadline for mailin ballots. The Supreme Court declined to take up the case. As long as ballots are mailed by election day they can be counted up to nine days later. While in wisconsin the Supreme Court agreed with the gop officials that ballots must arrive by 8 00 p. M. On election day to be counted. A Lower Court Ruling had given state officials unto six days. Lets bring in ted shaw, a msnbc contributor and serves on the National Task force for election crises. We are seeing the lawsuits across the country, republicans challenging the ability of americans to vote by mail, vote early by mail. As somebody who is steeped in the Legal Process of this country, what is your expectation of how things are going to go on election day . Well, first, good to be with you. I wish i could say that everyone agrees that we are going to maximize the number of people to participate in the political process, who exercise their most sacred right but that is not true and unfortunately this falls out on partisan lines. Republicans are trying to cut down the number of people who vote and the number of people whose votes are counted. I expect on election day that things will be orderly. We have to push back on what has been happening over the last several months with the president and others trying to undermine confidence in the electoral system. There are people who work the polling places and the electoral process, have been committed to doing this for years. They have good intentions and i think we have to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that things will go smoothly but we have to be prepared to defend the vote if there are those who try to intimidate, those who try to in any way get in the way of people casting their ballots or their ballots counting. Its up to the states to decide how they conduct they elections. They can decide whether they allow mailin ballots. They can decide how they count, for how long they count. It is a states rights issue. Republicans are usually the party of states rights. What is the disconnect here . Yeah, well, ordinarily as you say we would expect that republicans, more conservative, that they would believe in states rights. Here states rights mean as you correctly point out that the details of how elections are carried out once you get beyond constitutional issues and once you get beyond federal statutes, and that point its left to the state and the state officials. Here the irony is that republicans or many republicans are trying to set aside state laws and practices which enhance the capacity of people to participate in the electoral process. Thats a great irony but were living in a time when i think probably most of us have gotten past the expectation of consistency and principle. To 2016 we were 122nd in the world with voter turnout. That is frankly shameful that we dont have higher voter turnout in this country and important that everybody gets a chance to vote for theres better representation for all americans. Ted shaw, thank you so much. It is not a partisan statement. You want better representation for everybody. Actor billy ichner on his partnership with swing left focused on flipping senate seats from red to blue. Speaking of the senate, he might be four days from flipping an Arizona Senate seat, he being democratic candidate mark kelly whos standing by with Vaughn Hilliard for a live interview next. Among my patients, i often see them have teeth sensitivity as well as gum issues. Does it worry me . Absolutely. Sensodyne sensitivity gum gives us the dual action effect that really takes care of both our teeth sensitivity as well as our gum issues. Theres no question its something that i would recommend. Theres no question its something before money, people tools, cattle, grain, even shells represented value. Then currency came along. They made it out of copper, gold, silver, wampum. Soon people decided to put all that value into a piece of paper, then proceeded to wave goodbye to value, printing unlimited amounts of money as they passed the buck to the future. Thats why its time for Digital Currency and your investment in the grayscale funds. Go digital. Go grayscale. Oh, you think thats a bad move . So youre saying i should go to subway for a delicious footlong. Amazing speech coach. I know. Now in the app get a free footlong, when you buy two. Because its footlong season. When you buy two. Whos sujoe biden. Rop 15 . Biden says, every kid deserves a quality education and every family deserves to live in a safe, healthy community. Thats why i support prop. 15. Vote yes. The only way we are going to get through this is together and the only way to make that change is by voting. Sounds like we got a bit of a delay there. This is the last day of early voting in arizona. Arizona is truly in play and that affects the senate race, as well. Democrats are eyeing the seat held by republican mcsally. Retired navy captain the astronaut turned gun control advocate and husband of former congresswoman giffords is up 7 points against mcsally. She was appointed two years after the death of long time senator john mccain and after losing the states other senate race. So joining us now from arizona is nbc news political reporter Vaughn Hilliard. Vau vaughn, this is a really interesting race and it is one that people have had the eyes on for sometime now. Martha mcsally already not a strong candidate and didnt win against kirsten cinema and not doing well against mark kelly and doesnt sound like the president being there is helping her much in the polling. Tell us what you are seeing. Reporter yeah, katy, it was just a few years ago that republican mcsally ran here in arizona against cinema and lost and the question has been would she be able to make up the ground and be able to beat democrat mark kelly. Of course the former astronaut and husband of former congresswoman from arizona here gabby g Gabby Giffords and we are in the west end of phoenix. Folks can drop off the ballots but, captain, if you could give a setup of the town. This is the west side of phoenix. This is an Early Vote Center but folks can still vote here on saturday and sunday. If they have a reason to not vote on tuesday which can be coronavirus, they can fill out an affidavit and vote here on saturday, sunday, monday and definitely on tuesday. You have a couple stops ahead. Can you tell us where the race is . We have seen you up in polling in the state. Where is the assessment of the race . Polling is behind us. The only poll that matters now is folks showing up to vote. We have been working hard. I have been at this since february of 2019. Arizonans are anxious to vote. 2. 2 million already voted and probably close to 3. They want to see some change. The issues that arizonans care about, the price of health care, preexisting conditions, keeping their insurance is really important, getting the economy back on track, protecting Social Security and medicare. This is a long time republican state here. Theres independents, republicans we talk to trying to make that decision to whether ultimately to vote for you and Martha Mcsally said that you could be the 51st vote. What would a u. S. Senate majority under democratic control look like with you in the senate . Im not running to be a democrat or republican senator but an arizona senator. And arizona has a history with folks like senator john mccain, wokking across the isle or my wife gabby. Thats the senator i plan to be, an independent voice in washington, d. C. To try to solve some of the problems we face and theyre significant. We dont have a plan to deal with the pandemic. We have 440,000 arizonans trying to get by on 240 a week of unemployment benefits. That doesnt work. My goal is to try to solve some of the problems that our state is facing. The president was here just the other day and he has formed a partnership with Martha Mcsally and said nobody wants to hear this. What do you think of that statement . It is unfortunate. The president of the United States should have respect for an arizona senator. Thank you. Thank you. Best in these days ahead over the next four days. Captain mark kelly in a tight, competitive race here. Katy . You put some Hand Sanitizer on your hand and that candidates hand, my friend. Just joking with you. We appreciate it. Also lets note its cinema won by a promising to maintain that standard of independence that arizonans have come to expect so certainly no surprise to hear mark kelly say that, as well. Martha mcsally tied herself closely to donald trump. Thank you so much. Our thanks to mr. Kelly, as well. Thank you. Arizona just one of the states that the organization swing left has turned their attention to with the goal of flipping the state from red to blue. Ill talk to an actor lengthing the star and voice to that effort. Billy eichner joins me next. Dont go anywhere. There are 35 senate races that are up for grabs next week. As with discussed before the break, the democrats neat a net gain of four to control the senate. Its now crunch time for advocacy groups targeting the Battleground Senate races. With Covid Protocols in place, many are relying on phone banking from home to get out the vote. One organizations volunteers have logged more than 4 million calls and getting a little help from one of the loudest voices out there. And i mean loudst literally. Joining me is actor and writer billy eichner. We really wanted elena, but were going to accept you as a replacement. Wow. I love elena. If any of you at home watch, youll agree with me. Youre working with swing left. Youre trying to get people out to vote for the senate races. We spent so much time talking about the president ial race. But democrats are also really focused on flipping the senate back blue. Are you finding its effective by just phone banking from home usually theres a really robust get out the vote effort that includes knocking on doors. Yes, its incredibly effective. It always has been effective. Its even more effective this year. Theres some canning going on. I have had friends doing that in pennsylvania over the past couple weeks, but obviously with covid, with people still if not stuck at home then preferring to be at home and be cautious with covid rates skyrocketing. Phone banking is is an incrediblyi incredibly effective thing to do. Its not scary. Its easy. You sign up for a shift. We teach you how to do it no matter introverted you are. Even if it feels outside your comfort zone, you see how easy and evidentive it is. We dont have people at swing left were trying to swing seats left and trying to help biden win. But youre not calling trump voters and getting into arguments trying to convince them to my rack rously become less racist over the next four days. Youre calling people who tend to lean democratic in the past, but might have questions about early voting or their ballot or where to go or how to fill out their ballot or give them that extra push, that extra encouragement they need to get out there and vote. Because it truly is now or never. There are millions of people out there who say it doesnt matter if they vote. That washington doesnt change their lives. 4. 4 Million People didnt vote in 2016 that voted in 201212. Whats your message . I make it about the issues. Its what they are fighting for in terms of policy. We get bogged down in terms of personality and who is charactermatic and who is a good public speak er. And communication is important. We have one candidate in morning joe who believes in science. Who when a vaccine is ready will listen to doctors and be confident and intelligent enough to actually be able to administer the vaccine to 350 million americans. Fs we have a president currently who doesnt believe science is real who cant handle a rally without his own supporters passing out because of heat in tampa or cold in nebraska. This is not a person we can trust to vaccinate americans. So i make it about that and science and lgbt rights, which affects me and my community. I make it about the Supreme Court because we have minority rule right now. We have a pop larceny vote that Hillary Clinton won that biden could win again, but trump could win the Electoral College and put more justices on the Supreme Court. It has a direct impact on americans who would prefer biden and the only way to do that is to vote the person in. We have 10 seconds. Youre also talking about gerrymandering and there are a lot of state house races. Those decide how states get divided up and who gets into the halls of congress and house of representatives. Give me 10 seconds on that before i have to go. State legislatures are as important as anything else. We have a huge swing left phone Bank Halloween party tonight. Go to swingleft. Org. Please do not wake up years from now when your kids and grand kids ask what did you do to stop trump and say i i voted. Its not enough. If you dont volunteer, you cant complain. Thank you so much for joining us. Everybody in this country should vote. The more representation the better for everybody. Thank you so much. If you see me on the the street, feel free to yell at me. In california, were the only state where wealthy trust fund heirs get their own tax loophole. These tax cheats avoid millions in taxes on vacation homes and coastal mansions depriving our schools.
