To see the context, the questions before and questions after would be irresponsible. I believe we are falsely accused of something and you say nothing, no comment or roger stone was unavailable. Most americans assumed you are guilty. The whole purpose, raid at my house. To paint a picture of me as public enemy number one. Roger stone is professing innocence, here what i say we know. According to multiple people who have been interviewed by the special counsel, roger stone, could be a key player. They want to know if hes the missing link between the Trump Campaign and russia or guccifer 2. 0. The big question we are asking today, what does roger stone know . Joining me now is another person thats interviewed by the special counsel. Kristin davis, thank you very much for being here. Thanks for having me. I am curious, people in new york know roger stone and people across the country know stone from his association with donald trump and what they have seen in the past couple of years. You know him personally. The person you see him on television who does not seem to be all worried of the consequences of his action and what he could be facing, is that the same person he is in private . Obviously, he has a point but hes innocent and hes going to fight the charges. Who he is in his personal life is very different. Hes a family man. Hes a very good and kind friend, hes an an mall rights activist. Hes a very good person. If the fbi came to your house with 29 men and guns. It is very intimidating. I think there are some huge elements under concerns. Hes been under arrest and investigation for over two years. I think hes prepared for this. There is a question whether Robert Mueller want him as a corroborating witness, if he did, what are the chances that roger stone be willing to cooperate . He said publicly hes not going to bare false witnesses against the president. Hes not going to make anything up. Hes a rarity. He believes that other people have lied against the president being cohen and also Jerome Corsey. There is a whole lot of misinformation out there and lack of truth. The fbi raided not just his home down in florida but an apartment in harlem. They thought you were there, right . I share a duplex with roger for the last couple of years. I moved a couple of weeks ago, there is nothing there. What do you think theyre looking for . Information regarding wikileaks, guccifer and any collusion, that type of thing. He did not have anything other than he disclose which was a tweet conversation from what i have been told for years now and i testified as such into the special counsel in august. Two weeks later, critico was subpoenaed. David lugo had filmed roger for a documentary, he told the story in public in front of numerous people at my apartment. Did roger stone have conversations with you about wikileaks and whether how we can help donald trump . He had a conversation with me which i also testified in front of the special counsel. He did not know the content of the email or when it was coming. Just that, randy kept on telling us something is coming. Why was he trying to get more information . Hes trying to find out what it is. I dont believe he was ever successful. You dont think he was ever successful . Why is he tweeting about john podesta . He had Jerome Corsey doing some opposition research. I challenge jerome to present the proofs. He released all his Court Documents and plea deal to the media. Where is the proof that roger stone had you covering for him. At 2016, there was no pressure on roger for his tweet. It was a nonissue. Six weeks later it was an issue. Suddenly john pes odestpodes email were coming out on a daily basis. Jeromes story, he was covering for roger in early august. It was not an issue until much later. If you did not know roger stone well, it looks too coincidental to make sense. I mean i understand why people have questions. Coincidences, sometimes it is just coincidences and thats all there is. I was around during that time and his stories have not changed over the years. His story changed in front of congress and he did lie to congress. They have transcript s where he says one thing and emails and Text Messages that contradicts of what he claims. He says he did not have any memory and documentations. There is a ton of messages that have that. Good example. I testify for the special counsel, i dont remember 50 of what they ask you. You are under a lot of pressure and it is very intimidating. We also dont have the context in which that conversation, that testimony, we have only seen three or four lines where he said no. How many times did you ask him . What hour was this in to the testimony and in what context . We can look at the charges and witness tampering. He told critico to pull a character from the god father and go in front of congress. Roger kept saying that randy critico he publicly denied that when a number of us present. No, roger was saying tell the truth. We are only seeing snippet of that conversation. Ari melber is a platform which he came on that show numerous times. We have only seen rogers response. I have seen randy critico getting into a fight with stone after harassing me on my campaign. Hes an awful human being. You know Donald Trumps orbit in some ways better than most people do. I know you dont know anybody thats involved in this. The special counsel have come up with person after person who have lied about russia one way or another. Why is everybody lying about the same subject . I dont believe collusion happened and if it did, it did not happen for team trump. I dont remember a year ago. Well, i mean i think everybody at that time, every political journalist out there was trying to find out what wikileaks had. You are asking 10 million different people what it is and people are talking about it, you cant remember every Single Person you spoke with. Do you think a bunch of people suddenly have a lapse of memory when it came to one particular subject . I dont know. I dont know other peoples intent. I only know roger because i have been friend with him as with hi with him off and on for years. I know his intent from the beginning not to lie. He testified to clear his name. Hes not a stupid man. Obviously hes not going to go on with the intent to lie because he was not subpoenaed. He did that willingly and he was getting barraided in public. Does he have any regrets in 2016 of the way he behaves. I believe all he wants to do is clear his name thank you for telling us what you know. Joining me Betsy Woodruff and chuck rosenberg, theyre both msnbc contributors. Chuck, it is always good to have you. You told me a number of times before and kristin talked about all of these lines and Text Messages and etcetera being coincidences. You said there are no such thing as coincidences when you are a federal prosecutor. I still adhere to that view, katy. Shes a friend of mr. Stone, i appreciate that. She does not want anything bad to happen to him. I understand that. It is incumbent at the government to prove to the jury unanimously and prove beyond a reasonable doubt, they were intentional. That burden is on the government and it will remain on the government. I have read the indictment carefully several times. If the government con proan pro trial, this is an easy case. I have no question about that in my mind. Chuck, what we have seen so far and heard from a number of people. Betsy, i know you heard this as well who have been interviewed by the special counsel. They seem to be looking heavily as a back channel between wikileaks and between the campaign, between russia itself and guccifer 2. 0 character that was created to mass russian intelligence. Theyre looking at him closely. What we have so far, roger stone at least trying to get that information, he was not charged with conspiracy. What do you make of that and what is the most generous reading of that . The most generous reading of that is he did not conspire. It is entirely possible that the investigation of stone and his role continues. Why do i say that . Well, with his arrest, they executed two search warrants. In order to get a search warrant from a federal judge, you have to prove to her that there is a crime thats been committed and evidence of that crime at the place you want to search. That tells me they are still investigating his role. It is not just his arrest or indictment but also the simultaneously execution of search warrants katy, that tells me there is an Ongoing Investigation of what he did and what he did seems to be, if you read the stones indictment conspires at least certain other senior Trump Campaign officials and with wikileaks to dump the stolen emails into the public sphear. Look at this from the daily beast. Why use the voice here . Betsy, what do you make of it . So if they were to potentially characterize that person or make it easier to understand who it was, that can put them in a gray area when it comes to those roles. Muellers team unquestionably is weighing, the political significance of each of these indictments. Were mueller to file an indictment thats zeroed in for instance, hypothetically on the president himself or his son or soninlaw. Thats something that would ratchet pressure on the president. The president could potentially have some sort of criminality in to the people surrounding him. I dont have inside knowledge for the Mueller Investigation. It is undoubtable and it goes without saying, it is a consideration that they weigh when they put that together . Chuck . I agree. The paragraph that you referred to is paragraph 12. It is the one that immediately caught my eye for a Senior Campaign official to be directed in that Senior Campaign official. I think betsy is right. There is nOngoing Investigation. We may see conspiracy charges or we may not. It depends on whatever the muellers team have assemble. Mr. Stone is quite right that his life has to be both material and intentional. That urges the government. The indictment officially alleges a crime, seven of them. I think hell be convicted at trial if he chooses to be tried. Betsy, you have exclusive reporting of Something Else that happens in 2016. A little known Consulting Firm with links to his israeli intelligence, internal communications which the daily beast reviewed showed the firm conducted analysis. Betsy, what else did you find . During the campaign season, rick gates cooperated with the Mueller Investigation during the time of his Trump Campaign reviewed the pitch that was produced by a Company Called side group. Certainly ethically dicey to say the least social media influenced campaign. The communication were viewed were introduced in june of 2015. Analysts with wikistrat discussed in great details how the Foreign Government can nefariously influence the election of the United States. They talked about how a Foreign Government can target democrats or republicans. And they talk in great details in a way thats surprising. Now part of the reason we found these communications so interesting is that we spoke to people who work at wikistrat who say they were troubling. One guy told me at the time he did not raise any red flags. Looking back, this person told me he found it disturbing. Very interesting reporting. Betsy woodruff and chuck rosenberg. Still to come, while you were not looking, the maker of oxicontent, is the family behind that Company Going to be civilly liable for overdose deaths. The senator pitched a plan that would target americans with more than 50 million in access. It did not sit well with two billionaires, one, Howard Schultz and michael bloomberg. I dont believe what Elizabeth Warren, what she stands for, she will be heading to socialism. Do you think shes a socialist . I think she believes in program thatll lead to a level of socialism in america. We should not be embarrassed of our system. If you want to look at a system thats non capitalistic, take a look at the wealthiest country in the world and today people are starving to death, it is called venezuela. Joining me, our msnbc contributor and our director programming for sirius xm, maxwell. Is it reasonable to tax people 50 million in assets . No. We have to have a full understanding of what tax rates are. Rich people complaining that you are going to tax us higher. It is not surprise that two billionaires would come out in opposition of their attack which will take more of his money. You did not gain your wealth in a vacuum. Thats something that Elizabeth Warren unlike a lot of other democrats, she made that case. You drove your trucks to deliver your products on roads that were built and kept up by citizens. By the way, the in structure of the country gets a d. Right. We could improvement on that. We are not talking about a tax in the classic sense which is a tax on earnings in a given year. It is an money, money sitting in the bank, money thats calculated to be worth to stocks or x hundreds of millions of dollars and you take 2 off the top of that. We have never in this country done anything remotely like it. We dont do it because we tax earnings and we do not believe the government has the right to take seize property from people simply because the fact they have more money. We tax people eas earnings t their annual income helps defray the cost of the government. We are talking abohave peopl schultz and bloomberg and jeff bezos who make ton of money on a yearly bases and add exponentially into that with their personal accounts and a lot of that money does not stay in the u. S. , it gets funneled off to various offshore accounts and they become taxing. What you see as a result partially of that is you have this class of people who have more wealth and anybody else combined. People who have no money whatsoever were basically living on the poverty line. We have a much smaller class. No, we dont. Thats not true. In my case, what you are talking about we had a Government Shutdown where 800,000 federal workers were missing one or two paychecks and a number of them said that they were worried about paying groceries. Living paycheck to paycheck is not middle class. Sure it is. Middle class is an income level. Yes, but if wages are not growing and the cost of living is higher then certainly the income level that you are talking about that used to be middle class is no longer that. Thats simply incorrect. How is that middle class . The Median Income in this country have gone up 6,000 a year. You just said there is no middle class anymore. Thats a crazy thing to say. Not in a traditional sense. The strength in the middle class does not match what it used to be. Watch the 2020 elections are going to be fought trying to get middle class voters to vote for you. My point is when you look at how these tax plans, not my point, but my question. When luke at these tax plans, the majority of the americans like the idea of the wealthy, the very, very wealthy getting taxes this way, what is it going to mean in the 2020 election . Bloomberg wants to run as a democrat who does get in the race. Is there Democratic Party for more a moderate position . Is it going to be more progressive. I think there is room to have a full debate and there is room to have a moderate candidate. I am not saying the electorates would like the idea. People are running as progressive because thats the base of party is. The platform that we sign on is the most aggressive and many of the issues on that we are talking about now in terms of healthcare and income in equality because of movements. Those issues are not partisan. The fact that people cant buy food if they miss one paycheck is a result of the wild disconnect between the super rich and people going to work everyday. Because jeff bezos is not raising the wages of the people thats working for him and allowing them to have this great amount of wealth. I mean they may be open to the ideas but everything you said is disconnected from everything else. What does jeff bezos pay structure at amazon has to do with 800,000 workers or workers living from paycheck to paycheck. Let me give you a couple of numbers, you were right, it was 2 over 59. 3 of households. This is warrens plan. It would raise 2. 75 trillion in ten years and draw 75,000 families draw from only 75,000 families. Thats 0. 1 of u. S. Household. Here is the problem with this. Even if you believe in it, history tells us one thing, even if you believe it. History tells us the number that you see there, the rich are not going to pay that. When the top tax rate of the United States was 91 , the rich pays 15 and ended up paying marginal. If you create a tax code in which the tax code seeks to essentially slice money off the ultra rich, theyre going to find a way to get around it. Why is that the way we are setting policy in this country . All right, they can hire good c accountants to avoid taxes. Thats crazy. Yes are you crazy . Thats what we did for 30 years. I was commenting to be clear on the idea that you just proposed not you as a person. The entire 1986 tax reform bipartisan support was about eliminating tax shelters and flattening the rate, lowering the rate so that the rich would pay more. I cant wait to talk about 2020. I got to tell you, i am fascinated and i am excited to see the candidates and their proposals. I am excited to not talk about donald trump and the rest of the probe. I cant wait, well get into it so much more. Well leave it here for now. John and zerlina maxwell. Thank you. Lawmakers are meeting for the first time to try to avoid another Government Shutdown which could come in 16 days. The Conference Committee is made up of 17 members. It includes some of the most senior members of congress, it includes lawmakers with appropriation backgrounds. It does not include immigration hard liners. Their goal is to crack the deal and satisfy the president s demand for building his border wall. A demand that president repeated this morning, any discussions without his wall is a waste of time. Joining me now is kelly odonell and kasie hunt. Kelly, whats happening on capitol hill . Whats happening to the white house, i should say about this. I am sorry. Reporter no problem. The white house sort of backed away from this in an active way. Theyre allowing this to be a congressional progress where you have lawmakers who do know a great deal of how the process works. If all members of congress have a certain skill level and you have specialists among them, there are people on capitol hill whose specialty is appropriation, knowing how to work the budget. So to give room for those negotiators on this team to do their work with this limited time horizon sources here in the white house are saying the white house sort of backing off. They do not have quote on quote see at the table in this phase of things. Ultimately when they reach a point when they conclude something and it becomes legislation and some forth then the white house would have an offer down on the product on this. We are kind of in the period where the administration have stepped back from this process after a bruising experience with the shutdown and how it played out politically. Well see how long they continue to step back. Sherman, it is interesting that there is no immigration hard liners. The deal theyre coming up with, lawmakers are confident that it is the sort of deal that the president will sign on if they come to an agreement. Casey. I am sorry. I could not figure out if you were looking at me or nick. My bad. I am so sorry. We forgive you. No worries at all. The dynamics up here, the house was voting. That i have gotten underway and we gotten our first suggestion of how this will play out. The appropriator suggested that democrats going further than 1. 6 billion of the original build that constructed had existed here on capitol hill. These goal posts can move a little bit. The devil could be in the details. I would argue that if the devil stays in the detail, we are likely to crack an agreement of some sort. People are saying we are capable of getting a deal. They dont feel they are that far away. We are for Border Security and we dont differ that much from republicans who say we need to use resources in a strategic way and technology and etc. There is quite a few republicans if you talk to them privately a year or two ago would have said a wall is a terrible idea. The reality is still what kelly touched on which is this has become a symbol that is important to the president. If he can get beyond it and stay out of it, i mean there is a lot of hope for this community. As you know, hes already out there saying well, it is 50 50. Hes the only person that can actually answer that question because hes really the only one who i think can really sink this project. Could there be another shutdown . Absolutely. The entire process is happening inside the friction that the president is creating. We need this new wall on top of the wall. They have to give him something that he could call a wall and over ride the veto potentially. I am not sure if the appetite is there for an over ride. What would the problem being with an over ride for republicans . Would they worry it would make their president look weak . Exactly. They dont want to go against. This committee is the first steering of a traditional relationship. Theyre serving their own role in the moprocess. Kelly odonell and kasie hunt and nicholas contessori. Theres little rest for a single dad, and back pain made it hard to sleep and get up on time. Then i found aleve pm. The only one to combine a safe sleep aid, plus the 12 hour pain relieving strength of aleve. Im back. Aleve pm for a better am. But when i started seeing things, i didnt know what was happening. So i kept it in. He started believing things that werent true. I knew something was wrong. But i didnt say a word. While you were not looking, a lawsuit filed by the Massachusetts Attorney general alleges the family that owned the Pharmaceutical Company knew it was pushing a highly addictive and lethal painkiller but continue to do so to make money. By the end of this week, Additional Information filed with the lawsuit including communications and Business Practices must be made public. It is targeting their company, the maker of oxycotntin from th beginni beginning it quickly became a top moneymaker for the company. Hhs says the drugs carry significance for reviews. Fou less addictive in some country trying to increase sales. That allowed consumers to purchase heroine without the proper safe guards. According to the complaint when the inventor of oxyconoxycontin the drug took off and addicted users began to overdose, the company came up with a response, richard sachler, the ceo of purdue decided the best strategy to blame the victims. Sackler wrote, we have to hammer on the abusers in every way possible. They are wrecklereckless crimin. Purdue continue to aggressively markets its opioid and down plaid the potential of abuse and addiction. While the Opioid Crisis was raging, purdue and sackler quote, they studied unlawful tactics to keep pay thents on opioids and then ordered staff to use them. It should send a powerful message that powerful people are just as accountable as the corporation they own. Joining me now, dr. Andrew. Thank you for being here. You were considered one of the four most experts in this field. This lawsuit is making some really serious allegations. The Sackler Family, they have the communications to back it up so it seems. They did not care about the victims of their doctorirugs. They cared more about profits. Thats right. The sacklers were interested in seeing their medication prescribed as much as possible and didnt care particularly in europe where they were releasing the drugs if it was released without the proper control. They wanted profits. They did not care about people becoming addicted or dying of overdoses. Whats disturbing is as the epidemic they unleashed was getting worse. They frame the issue as if all the problems we were hearing about was with oxycontin were limited to drug abusers and millions of patients were being helped. It was not true but it was an effective strategy and it is one that policymakers fell more for many years. Whats the reality of what oxycon oxycontin does and who are victims to it. Patients who take oxycontin even as directed can become addicted. The harm impact people with chronic pain. We have seen millions of americans with chronic pain being addicted to opioids and thousands have lost their lives to overdoses. Where does oxycontin stand among opioids. Purdue is quick to tell journalists why is everybody looking at us, we are only 2 of prescription. They account for small number of percentage of prescriptions. If you measure opioid consumption in terms of wait opioid consumed. Their pills pack an enormous dose and prescribed patients onto longterm. Some thats really important to understand is that when purdue released oxycontin, they certainly promoted that specific drug. One of the main things they did was to promote opioid as a classic drug. Much of their marking was unbranded. It was not just oxycontin that went up. It all went up as a consequenc s of their campaign. Is this lawsuit alleging that the purdue family, the Sackler Family is liable for the deaths of thousands or if not hundreds of thousands of people. Thats correct. Thats what the state of massachusetts is arguing that the sacklers should be held liable. What we have not seen yet but what i hope we see is criminal charges against the sacklers. When a corporation kills people in its pursuit of profit, paying a fine or civil penalty is not adequate. It does not serve as a deterrent. It can be seen as a cause of doing business. If we want to deter this from happening in the future, they should be held criminally responsible. If they do and becoming civilly liable and found civilly liable and say this bankrupts the company, what message is it going to send of criminal allegations or criminal charges. It is not just litigation against purdue and the Sackler Family. States are suing j j and endo. This is really important, it is important for few reasons. We want to learn our lessons so we deter companies from doing this in the future. We want to stop these Drug Companies from continuing to promote its aggressive use of products. Potentially correct. Doctor, thank you so much for joining us. I know i have to talk to you much more about this in the future. Thank you. As congress investigates the cost of the president s trips to maralago, we got a new book taking us inside the famous tru trumps resort. The author is with me the president has not visited maralago recently. The Congressional Oversight Committee pushed for more on the cost for these taxpayers. They are expected to release reports to the public any day now. Estimates have ranged from a Million Dollars to 3. 6 million. Members to the membership to the president s private club is not cheap, either. Another big question that we have been asking is what does that membership get you. Joining me is the author of inside the gates of the president ial palace. You have been on the inside, i have reported but i have never been there. Whats it like for the members down there now that donald trump is president . It is, first of all, the security sin credible. It takes you a lot, but it is just so bizarre. John f. Kennedy was a palm beach president , but would he have sat in this club with hundreds of people around him . But donald trump needs that. He needs to be constantly stroked and he needs people to tell him how great he is. So what happened . He just goes through the room and he loves to be on the veranda. He stays for three hours. He sits down with donald and they have a chat. Donald has enough and he walks back to the family quarters, and he follows him and screams the president , the great president , and thats Donald Trumps type of life. What sort of access to people have there. He goes down there and what sort of access does that afford members to the presidency. He is very shrewd, you dont just walk up to him. He will dismiss people suddenly if he doesnt want anything to do with them. You talked about palm beach residents, you say one by one almost all of the charities that recently held their events started cancelling for the next season. The american red cross, the palm beach zoo, the preservation foundation, the palm beach simil symphony. They left as quietly as possible. Yeah, they had donors that are protrump and antitrump. They wanted out of there and now you have people coming back but theyre more political organizations. Groops that are supporting it. Do you have to support donald trump to be a member there . No, there are people there that dont support him at all, but they learned to be quiet. What happens to them . If he wants to get rid of you he could get rid of you. What is the most interesting part . The key to his life is at maralago. He took on the establishment there. He is not just the president of the United States, he is king of the new guilded age. And they have been appointed to ambassadorships, as well. Inside the gates of power at donalds president ial palace, thank you, larry. Well be right back. Lace, thank you, larry well be right back.
