Violence. I just want to tell my cousin i love him. Today is one month that my daughter was murdered. I want the president to take my daughters murder seriously. This is a story that is just not going away. Its been one month since parkland, the latest mass murder at an american school. Since then there have been six shootings at schools, and yes its still happening, from malicious intent to accidents. Even as these walkouts are happening. In seaside, a teacher accidently fired his gun while doing a safety lesson. The weapon was pointed at the ceiling but three kids were hurt when parts of the ceiling fell on them. Congress has done nothing for gun control or Mental Health. The white house has made suggestions, but backed off the president s initial suggestions of raising the age limit for long guns or greatly expanding background checks, which is nra is against. The president s plan is around arming more teachers. States including have made a bit more progress, but in washington where students are marching en masse today, absolutely nothing. With thousands of students walking out across the country today, our big question is, will the adults listen . Lets kick off our hour with our correspondents across the country. Jacob soboroff is in l. A. Where a walkout happened last hour. Jacob, whats happening . Katy, it was remarkable to see about 2,500 students came out to Hamilton High school in west los angeles. It was orderly and official because the minute it was done they went right back into school. These are the organizers that are still hanging out. You happy with how it went. Very happy. It was amazing, you said. This is ari. Ari and josh helped lead the way here. What did you guys do this in a state with some of the strictest gun control laws already . I had friends that went to school at Stoneman Douglas in florida, so i was distraught when i heard what happened there. Its our time as children to fight in what we believe in. We have legislators who arent doing anything to help us despite the fact that they work for us. So we wanted to make our voices heard here. I dont think people think of you guys as children. Are you guys happy with the way that it turned out . I saw you were up there. I am definitely happy. I mean, i knew that our school had a voice, but to see them all come together and use it, thats something different. I mean, we got teenagers to be a part of something and usually they dont even want to get up off the couch. Josh, what happens next . 2,500 students came out into the front of your school, something that probably hasnt happened before. Now what . Good question. So we are going to keep pushing the message around school that we laid out today. Were going to make sure this isnt forgotten. On april 5th inside school were going to run a Voter Registration drive to make sure everyone can use the power to vote, which i mentioned in my speech. And then were also going to push the down l. A. Marches on march 24th and april 20th. That is the next physical step, people getting out into the streets. I have a feeling once youre registered to vote, were going to be seeing you guys out at the polls, fair to say . Yeah, of course. Katy, well be seeing some of these faces again, pretty sure. Jacob, thanks so much. Steve patterson is with students at denver at the state capitol. Steve, just outside of denver 20 years ago, almost 20 years ago, the shooting at columbine really started the National Conversation about protecting students at schools. Its 2018. These shootings are still happening. And parkland students who werent even alive when columbine happened are in denver to protest alongside those kids. Tell me what youre seeing. There are columbine students that werent alive as well, but they know parents and teachers and siblings, all who were impacted and affected by that shooting in 1999. Now having to almost relive that every time there is a new school shooting. I spoke to several students from columbine last night who expressed that. This is a pretty incredible sight. You have teenagers that have taken over here. This is Splinter Group from 10,000 students. Two of them are right here. Whats your name . Zaia. Your name . Dillon. Thank you very much for joining us. We were talking earlier about this feeling of power licensed. Yes. From being a target of these shootings in your age group and not being able to vote quite yet. Has this day sort of empowered you at all to give your voice to whats happening . Yes, i think its important that we try and make sure to use our voices even though we cant vote. I feel like its important that i got to use that as an excuse, that we still get out in the community and still use our voices to be heard. Even though we did have chaperones, its important that we remember those names and people who lost their lives. Dillon, what was it like to be surrounded by your friends, teachers, classmates to get in solidarity . The community from different schools, the same district but different schools got together and decided to rally and have a peaceful protest and decide that enough is enough, you know. Its been multiple years, almost two decades of these shootings and people are tired of it. And i feel like a lot of us, were all victims to it, even though we havent experienced it ourselves. I think its time we change your gun laws. I dont think that students or teachers should be equipped with weapons but we should be in a safe environment. Thank you for lending your voices. I know youre turning 18. I am 18 now. Youll able to vote soon, so well see you at the polls. Students feeling empowered after speaking. Those images are just amazing. Thousands of students there in denver. We also have a scene in los angeles, not where jacob is, at another school where still more students are walking out. This is all over country. Nbcs gaudy schwartz is inside Clayton High School where students were slapped with detention for protests. Tell me about what youre seeing out there. We saw that walkout earlier here at clayton. Now it is lunchtime. So you have 16, 17, 18yearolds here eating lunch. But theres also this Political Organization going on here. Its not democrat or necessarily republican. Right now they are just trying to get Gun Legislation on the books. They have roy blunts email, his phone number here, fun facts, 4. 5 theyve taken from the nra. And they have a bunch of laptops so people will write comments to the scenario. You have people making signs here. We have a bunch of students here. Im going to grab this chair. Were going to have a quick discussion. We were talking a little bit earlier about the gun laws here in missouri. What do you guys want to see when it comes to gun laws in missouri . Do you want to see them change . Of course. The gun laws in missouri are ridiculous. Theyre so loose. We want to see these large magazines and 50 caliber rifles prohibited. The common man should not be holding that. If you want a gun, there should be background checks, which were implemented but then contain out. We want to see you have a Mental Health done. We want to see that you have to register your gun so Law Enforcement can keep track of that gun. If its being traded or bought or sold so if something happens, they can identity that person. You shouldnt be able to have a drivers license and be 18 and have a gun. Guns have played a large part in the history here. This is a state where you get down to the rural areas and people dont necessarily see guns as a bad thing or guns as these weapons of mass destruction. Here in st. Louis, is that different . Do you think theres a difference here . I think that there is. I think there are a lot of people who are starting to realize that maybe we have this right to a gun, but thats not as important as our right and our need to protect our children. As you can see all around our nation, people are beginning to hopefully realize this and take action in stating we have to somehow put in place regulations and protections to make sure someone just cant walk into school and kill people with a gun. Last question, final question, i know you guys are facing detention for that walkout a little bit earlier. Last question, was it worth it . Absolutely. I mean, like, the fact that we had the opportunity to even organize this and that we actually did and we are just a couple of 17 and 18yearolds, thats insane. I mean, if i could do it over again, i would do the exact same thing. A bunch of us are planning to walk out during the april 20th walkout supporting columbine during the day too. Well see you in detention. Well see you at more rallies and then well see you in the voting booths . Definitely. Got it. You want to us serve definition with you guys because we were out there too . Come on over. Detention coming up. Gowdy schwartz, thank you very much. Were live in parkland, florida, where it all started at marjory Stoneman Douglas high one month ago. The interviews youve been doing all day have been difficult. These kids who saw their friends die, these kids who had family members die, these parents who lost children, the shooter, nikolas cruz was in court today. The appearance wrapped up as our hour got under way. Theres news he could be facing the death penalty. Obviously that is something that will happen one way or the other. But what these kids want to see changed for the future are gun laws. And they are not going to be quiet about it. Theyve been loud since this happened, and it doesnt feel like its losing any steam, does it . No, absolutely not. Katy, i should tell you we are about a miamimiami 17 for each person who was killed just one month ago today. People come out here to hold each other , top tell me stoir very good friend of yours did . She lost her life a month ago . Yes, maam, whats th protelescoppro zbhooinktsd this. What do you think she would want you to do . Would she be in agreement with you today for what youre doing . Yes, maam. Without a doubt . Without a doubt. You said you missed helper were zblp sflaechbsd to everybody . These kids didnt attend downgrade 14r57s minutes to tell me your name . Jasmine. Some people say youre too young, how can you question scenes of what it is yourp doing . rupp i think everyone in the building or people who were at the school who heard peoples stories have that ptsd and flash backs they have to deal with forever. And you had classmates, nearly 3,000 left school today. Dunk it would be as powerful in terms of the image presented that turned out to be that image today . Yeah. Honestly, like, our school is amazing and the people are like family to me. We can make a difference together and i know were going to convey an image that were together. Tell me your name. Camill. Why did you come out today . For the 17 people that passed away. And we want change. Thats the message, katy. All these kids want change and they think that they have got to be the change agents. Katy . You are never too young to do something. Dont let anybody tell you youre too young, especially one of us older people who have become generated over him griernz action. Those kids are doing remarkable work and i hope they continue to do remarkable work . Please tell me them thank you on behalf of everyone here in new york. You bept. Nings against zwifrmds . I have never felt as close to victory as we are today because [ cheers ] because of you . That was democratic senator Richard Blumenthal. We have live pictures out of seattle right now where kids are out there protesting, walking out in the rain. Look how many folks out there. Senator, first question, why has nopg been done . Because congress is complicit, and the nra managed to mobilize singleissue voters to hold congress in a vicelike grim. What were seeing, katy, that is so powerful is a social Movement Much like the civil rights move the, the Womens Health care movement, Marriage Equality movement, antiwar movement. In the making we have a potential impact. If the students not only walk out of the class but walk into the polls come election day, and thats what i sense is happening and thats why i think were closer to victory than ever before. What do you think can actually get done in this congress . Or should people really be looking to their states . After all, they question be smchsz the students did in florida. They had such a powerful impact and even as these demonstrates were occurring here in the shadow of the capitol, we were hearing testimony in the Judiciary Committee in a session that was called see something, say something. But im afraid that that kind of hearing is going to be an excuse for doing nothing because we need to do something. And realistically we can do things like universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons and highcapacity magazines and red flag statutes similar to what was done in florida, emergency risk orders that take guns away from people who are in danger to themselves or others. But the president has unfortunately provided just more reality show rhetoric, and that is no substitute for real action. People should demand for of congress and show come election day that they arent happy with congress is congress does nothing. Well see if they demand more on election day as you just said. Senator Richard Blumenthal of connecticut, thank you very much. More breaking news. Is larry kudlow heading to the white house . Stay tuned for that. Now you can get it, too. Welcome to the party. One day after President Trump fired his secretary of state, we have breaking news from c nbc that President Trump plans to name larry kudlow as his next National Economic Council Director along with new reporting that instead of letting him retire sunday, attorney general Jeff Sessions is considering a recommendation to fire the former fbi director Andrew Mccabe. 52 staffers have resigned or fired, leaving folks to wonder who is next and how are things getting done. Pete williams, our Justice Department correspondent for nbc news, stephanie ruhle, the host of the 9 00 a. M. And 11 00 a. M. Shows. Reporter for the boston herald, and a National Security Foreign Policy reporter for the associated press. Pete, im going to start with you. You have the newest breaking news. Whats going on with Andrew Mccabe . Why not just let him retire . Hes supposed to retire sunday . I would draw a distinction between the list you just mentioned and mccabe for this reason. All those other people you talked about served at the pleasure of the president , and he decided they didnt please him anymore so he let them go. This is not something thats political in nature. This is coming from within the fbi itself. The fbis office of professional responsibility had concluded that Andrew Mccabe should be fired based on a recommendation from the Justice Departments nonresponsive general looking into the fbis handling of the clinton investigation and the ig focused in on a conversation they had with a reporter last october about the fbis investigation of the Clinton Foundation and what they concluded was when the ig asked about this, mccabe wasnt candid in his answer and they recommended he be fired. That recommendation is now before attorney general sessions who can accept or reject it. Its in essence an appeal to sessions, but the expectation is the attorney general will accept the fbis recommendation. Yes, that would be just three or four days before Andrew Mccabe is scheduled to retire. Now, he stepped down as fbi Deputy Director in late january, but hes still on the payroll. His plan was to retire on sunday. If hes fired by sunday, it would replace his pension as a 21year veteran of the fbi in jeopardy. Wow. Pete williams, thank you very much for clarifying that for us. We appreciate it. Stephanie ruhle, lets talk about larry kudlow. Coming from cnbc, doesnt always agree with donald trump on everything, although theyre friends. Trump has said hes come around to his trade deals. Okay. Larry cow if in that position maybe he can get President Trump to stay and squeak him back into tpp, its unlikely. Theres another camp that President Trump likes, the old school reaganomics, new york, lets bring back the gold standard. Thats what larry kudlow is. He was part of reagans Economic Policy team. Hes the kind of guy that President Trump likes. Hes a tv celebrity. So hes wellknown in the circuits of cnbc. Something that will be difficult for larry, though, hes an advocate for President Trump, its going to hard for larry to carry President Trumps water, which trump loves. Why . Because you have ten years of larry kudlow being on record on tv and on the radio making all sorts of statements donald trump has been on the record for years making statements that dont jive with what he has said now. Why would it be different for larry kudlow to turn on a dime and say i think the president has now got the better idea. We were doing things wrong. Does larry kudlow want to let President Trump hijack all his credibility . Once hes in the seat and he has to back up that data, its going to be a challenge, a challenge im sure he can rise to as someone whos done media for years and years. He suits the part. If President Trump was going to choose someone who had those nationalist views, like a Peter Navarro or wilbur ross, its slim pickings. Williams is far out on the what can ado scale. How does he differ from gary cohn . Listen, gary cohn is a registered democrat. While a free markets guy didnt necessarily with the policies as much as custokudlow did. Lets hear the president himself talking about larry kudlow yesterday to reporters. We dont agree on everything, but in this case i think thats good. I want to have a divergence of opinion. We agree on most. He now has come around to believing in tariffs as also a negotiating point. Im renegotiating trade deals and without tariffs we wouldnt do as well. Larry east been a friend of mine for a long time. Kimberly, what does this all mean for the administration, all this upheaval . I think we are seeing the president beginning to surround himself with the people who he is comfortable with. We saw him talk yesterday about Rex Tillerson versus mike pompeo, the fact that he has chemistry with mike pompeo, that the personal relationship was important to him. Hes surrounding himself with people who are less likely to push against him when it comes to policy. Yes, here in this case you have larry kudlow who has taken different positions, but theyve known each other for a long time. Larry kudlow is from new jersey, the type of guy the president clearly gets along well with and thinks he can work with. And larry kudlow may understand the president well enough to know that pushing hard against his policy wont lead to a long tenure in the white house. So they have this sort of understanding of each other and that time work. Youre going to see that with other people as the president has announced. He has more changes to make within his administration. Youre probably going to see people who were more of the old school gop on the way out, people within his circle. Trumpier people. Trumpier people, yes. Lets go to Rex Tillerson and mike pompeo and talk to josh about this. You covered the state department. Josh, you were on that flight. You know whats happening in the state department. The morale is down. Its a gutted place. Is pompeo a welcome choice . Well, Rex Tillersons departure is welcome, certainly, be a lot of people at the state department who had very little affection for the way he ran the department. But people arent ready to open the door wide open yet to mike pompeo because they dont actually know if hes going to be any better. Hes also not a traditional diplomat. Hes a brash talking guy who seems to be in line with President Trump ideological, big opponent of the iran deal, had skeptical comments on climate change. Theres a lot of people in the state department who are really holding their breath right now to see whether pompeo is an improvement or whether hes even more drastic than tillerson in some ways. We are out of time, but i want to get this quote in from the washington post. Shes calling Donald Trumps cabinet the worst in history. He has no clear policy, just picks folks who are loyal or just like him, skeptical of expert opinion. The number of millionaires and billionaires in the cabinet was not been accident. Trump swrauvalues the opinion oh people and generals. Shes an opinion writer, but she has some facts behind her when it comes to all of the messes that these cabinet leaders have gotten themselves into. Without a doubt. You talk cabinet, i think dining room hutch. And the 31,000 dining room set that ben carson and his wife ordered. First class fights. Sound proofing their office, get a new door for the office. Ten of thousands of dollars. But this is the chaos President Trump created. People want to talk about all of his good policies, tough to get to those policies even if you like them when youre surrounded by unforced errors like a 31,000 dining room table. Stefan ruhle laying down the law. Appreciate it. Kimberly atkins, josh, thank you as well. You have a relationship with Vladimir Putin a conversational relationship or anything that you feel you have sway or influence over his government . I do have a relationship, and i can tell you hes interested in what were doing here today. Hes done an amazing job. Hes put himself really a lot of people would say had he put himself at the forefront of the world. My colleague interviewed him at the Miss Universe pageant and he was showering Vladimir Putin with praise. Why was donald trump so nice and why was that trip so significant . A new book by Michael Isakoff argues the trip was the start of the bromance between the now american president and the us autocrat. He was trying to get approval for a trump tower moscow, and he knew he had to go through putin, the book argues. The book reveals that during that trip, quote, trump received a private message from the kremlin that mr. Putin would like to meet mr. Trump. It excited trump. But the meeting never happened. Quote, it was a crushing disappointment for trump but he quickly thought of how to spin it, suggesting that after the Miss Universe telecast they could spread the word that putin had dropped by. No one ln for sure if he came or not, he said. Apparently it wasnt all for naught, though. This is the russian billionaire, showed up at the Miss Universe office in new york city bearing a gift for trump from mr. Putin. It was a black record box. Inside was a sealed letter. The contents of that letter have never been revealed. Joining me now with that cliff hanger, Washington Bureau chief for mother jones and david corn, they are the authors of this book. Michael isakoff as well. Sorry. Sometimes i invert things and i dont read prompters correctly. You know i know this. Sometimes i skip ahead when im reading. Im bad at the telepromter. What was in that letter . That is a really good question. And you would think that Robert Mueller would want to know the answer to that question because so much of what is now under investigation can be traced back to those events in moscow in november 2013 when trump is there. He is obsessed with trying to meet putin. Hes telling Thomas Roberts and others are suggesting they knows putin, has this great relationship. Actually, theyve never met. Are you sure he didnt pete with putin in that trip . Is that case closed . Pretty much. Theres no indication that he did. He was very everybody around him has described how disappointed he was when he learned putin wasnt coming is this all about business for him . Not about anything else . Theres a fair degree of that. Theres a psychological element where he saw himself as an oligarch. He spent almost 30 years to get a big project in moscow. There was ego involved in that. But he saw the Miss Universe contest as a steppingstone to getting a big deal in moscow. He was teeming up with a billionnary oligarch. People at the Miss Universe organization told us that we knew putin was in favor of this happening, otherwise it wouldnt have happened. But to get this big deal that he announces at the end of Miss Universe, he ends up with aguilera announcing a new trump tower. Within a day or two, a russian bank that is majority owned by the russian government announces it will be financing the project. So heres trump literally in bed with the russian government. Of course, he cant be out there saying anything negative about putin and his humanitarians records and everything else. But flattering him is only going to help him score big. You talk about the dossier in the book. I want to fas fast to january 6th, 2017. Your detailed meeting when james comey briefed the president elect on the dossier. When comey left, trump was insensed. Its bs, he told his aides. None of this was true. Suddenly it all made sense to trump. He knew exactly what this was. Its a shakedown, trump exclaimed. They were blake mailing him. Donald trump thought that the fbi was black mailing him by informing him of the dossier . That was his initial reaction. Remember, this event, the presentation by comey of that t twopage synopsis was organized by them. They got him to trump tower to read the report of the meddling of the election. Comey is there with john brennan, the cia director, james clapper, mike rogers, and they decide theyll do the main briefing about russian interference until the election, but then theyll all leave, comey will stay behind, and comey will go up to him and privately give him this twopage synopsis. Why . Because he wanted him to know he was out there and it could become public. Hold on. If he thinks its a shakedown and theyre black mailing him, does that mean he thinks they actually have something or is it just that they have this report that they can issue . Thats a really good question he does say to his aides that this is bs. But he does look at it as the fbi and the entire Intelligence Community sending him a signal. We have you under our thumb. The amount of paranoia here, he had just been briefed how russia had intervened in the election, subverted american democracy and he thinks the fbi wants to extort him the way j. Edgar hoover did decades ago. Thats his takeaway. And you can see how it formals his whole attitude to the u. S. Intelligence community, to comey whom he later fires which leads to the appointment of special counsel mueller. More importantly, it shows hes not concerned with the big picture. What happened in 2016 and how to stop it again, its all about theyre out to get me. What do you think is the most interesting nugget from this book that people havent focused on enough in all of the coverage surrounding donald trump and russia since the 2016 election . I talked before about how so much dates back to the Miss Universe pageant. We talk about these two characters, aguilera, the pop singer u and his publicly cyst. And they keep popping up. They were there in las vegas when the whole Miss Universe pageant is hatched. Theyre there with trump in moscow. They were the guys that set up the notorious trump tower meeting during the trump campaign. Its gold stones email to donald trump jr. Telling him ive just heard from my buddy emmen that the kremlin has dirt on hillary clinton. One thing that wasnt known, we it in our book, there was an earlier trump tower meeting, the first trump tower meeting, january 2015. Emmen and gold stone come to see trump himself at trump tower, and trump first tells emmen about his plans to run for president. So these relationships clearly are key to this whole story. And i think weve tried to put it together in a way people havent seen before. All by yourself fantastic job connecting all the dots. One thing in the news today that is relevant from 2006 where former russian spy was poisoned on british soil. Obviously that sounds familiar today. Putin has done what hes done for years, hes still doing it. What is going to stop him . If its happening back then, its 2018 and hes still doing it. Is dispelling Russian Diplomats enough . Imposing more sanctions enough . Great question. We look at the summer of 2016 when the abominatiobama adminis came to the conclusion that russia was behind the hacks and dumps. It was targeting an american election. What to do about it. Its my favorite chapter in the book, chapter 14 for those of you who have a copy. You see the top policy makers struggling with what to do. You have other people in the white house and the policy makers saying that may lead to a cyber war that would escalate and hurt the united states. Its a dilemma what to do. You have to be strong, send a message. But you got to do it in a smart way. And i think the Obama Administration ran out of time in trying to figure out this puzzle. And trump has shown no interest in taking that. David korn, Michael Isakoff, i can yahoo news. You have put it down on paper. Here is how it happened, heres whos interesting, heres whos at play, heres why donald trump might have been interested in russia in putin in the first place. Guys, congratulations. Number one on amazon right now. I can only imagine New York Times number one best seller is to come. Knock onplexsy glass. Good to see you in the newsroom. See you guys later. Next a democrat appears to have won trump country. Did conor lamb just show his party how to win in november . Thats my girl thats it get it, woo, yeah mom my games over. I would never do it except for this. We have the absentee ballot from allegany county. We are coming up against the top of the hour and running out of people who could put tv on the air. We have an apparent winner in the pennsylvania special election for the house the House District in the 18th. Conor lamb the democrat, nbc news is declaring the apparent winner over rick saccone, the republican. Unfortunately, we dont have Steve Kornacki spitting out his pen in that stand bite. We knew the special election in pennsylvanias 18th Congressional District would be close but it would end up, being a bite your paper and spit out your pen if you did see that, do complicated math out loud if you saw that, close race. So close even though you have a broken hand and a scratched up face from a spill off your bike, steve, you were up all night calling the race. And just before 6 00 a. M. , nbc news projected Democrat Conor Lamb the apparent winner. Nbc news being Steve Kornacki with his hurt paw and bruised up face. And he has a 627 vote lead over Republican Rick Saccone and today the republicans are blaming party from a district that trump took by 20 points in 2016. Most gop strategies say it is a case of a weak candidate but one went a little farther, saying it was his face. And they told the washington examiner, and we are not kidding. It is a porn stash. He should have lost the stash. Paul ryan insisted this race is not an indicator of what is to come in november. As you say, it is too soon to say what is going to happen. I think the candidate that is going to win this race is the candidate that ran as a prolife, progun antinancy pelosi conservative. That is the candidate that will win the race. Joining former Florida Republican congressman, and president of brilliant search and political analyst, thank you so much for being here. David, as the results came in last night, you tweeted what did you tweet . Well throw it on the screen. I dont have it in front of me. Here it is. Probably the primary takeaway from tonight from pennsylvania 18 is madam speaker. The democrats wonder whether lamb is declaring victory. But conor lamb came out and said he would not vote for pelosi for speaker. What is going on here . Is this an example of a democrat moving into the center right and pushing away the Democratic Party in order to win in a bluecollar area . Well, it does speak to the fact that candidates matter. And in this case, democrats put forward a candidate that spoke to the districts concerns. And look, i think this is a challenge for both parties recently. That have operated under a small tent when it comes to candidate recruitment for a certain litmus test. A year ago the dnc chairman submitted a litmus test on the choice of abortion and life. Whether or not well see more conor lambs is a family conversation for the democrats. In the Republican Party it is not a big tent but it is trump party. Was saccone a trump candidate or just a weak candidate . It was a trump candidate. Republicans are spending today spinning today but the reality this morning is republicans have underperformed in every election since trump. The Trump Presidency is a drag on republican candidate and does not help republican candidates and to distance themself from trump helps gop turnout. There is no clear path for a republican congressional candidate under donald trump why ch is why today it does not hurt to see a Midterm Election in the house. I give the democrats credit for recruiting someone with a strong background but he ran on a republican message. Lamb ran against nancy pelosi and for gun control and for the president s tariff policy. I dont think well see democrats doing that in the fall. You cant be outspent so if you have an opponent, get in the game and raise the money you need to. They are trying to make it not hurt as much as it probably did, cornell. But do they have a point by saying that lamb ultimately ran on more of a republican ticket than a democratic ticket and if that is true, if you agree with that, what does that mean for rest of the races in 2018 . A couple of things. First i want to say im glad i trimmed down my porn stach. But they are whistling past the grave. This is a district that is a swing district. This is not a district that democrats will be competing in. Yes, democrats have to have a strong candidate and candidates that match the district and clearly lamb was a candidate who matched his district. But lets be clear, we dont a erase a 20point republican advantage without the trump effect. And youre seeing this in special election especially at the state house level. Democrats picked up the gubernatorial house we wouldnt the gubernatorial house with a strong govern candidate in virginia. But he got the most more votes than any gubernatorial candidate in the history of virginia. Not simply because he was a strong candidate but because what you are seeing and i think you saw this in pennsylvania last night, you are seeing a revolt among suburban women. And that is not about the democratic candidate, that is about what they are seeing at the national level. I think republicans have to realize that what they are seeing in the suburbs and weve seen this in special elections, you have a moderate swath of republicans of voters, especially women, better educated women who are very uncomfortable with what they see with donald trump and uncomfortable with what he is doing to the brand of the Republican Party. And i got to tell you, there are over 100 house seats in the country right now who that are more competitive than that pennsylvania district and it opens up the map in a way and i was deans post poster in 2016 when they took back the house. Theyre going to have more seats competitive this time around than in 2006. Erasing a 20point lead is a big deal or a 20 point lead for donald trump in 2016 at least. Cornell, we like your face. With the mustache. Im going to say mustache or no mustache. David jolly, we like your face no matter what as well. Thank you. And back to more serious news. One more thing. Weve been watching all day long students protest across the country asking the adults to keep them safe from gun violence. Including in chicago where 414 people have been shot so far in 2018. We often talk about Mass Shootings at schools but cities like chicago have a major stake in this debate as well. A dad meanwhile who lost his daughter in the Parkland School shooting delivered an Emotional Message earlier today and we want to leave you with his words. Here is what ryan petty, father to elaina joann petty had to say to lawmakers during a hearing on capitol hill earlier. In a season of loss, it is difficult to find meaning in tragedy. The senseless murder of so many, including my own beloved daughter elaina. It tests the limits of faith and demands more endurance than we thought possible. It is the test abruptly forced on us and we bear it best we can. But we know that this thing that has happened does not mean what this what this does not mean, it does not mean evil will triumph or that we may do nothing. It does not mean we should turn against one another. That right there will wrap things up for us this hour. Ali velshi picks things up from washington. Im ali velshi. All day as katie said weve been seeing powerful scenes across the country tens of thousands of students are leading a nationwide walkout in honor of the mass shooting that took place a month ago today in parkland florida, they are armed with a resounding message for this countrys leaders, never again. One of the largest rallies was in d. C. With students this morning sitting with their backs to the white house in a moment of silence. Just as the president revooled a School Safety revealed a School Safety plan more in line with the National Rifle association than with the policy ch
