Four swing states. The president will also be in michigan, wisconsin and pennsylvania as joe biden goes flat out himself in pa with stops there and in ohio. The future of the presidency all but certain to come down to just a hand full of critical swing states even as our new polling numbers out just this morning from the key Battle Grounds show this race right now may be getting a little bit tighter with bidens overall lead in those places ticking down a point. Americas fate is in your hands, and as i said, we win florida, we win it all. To beat the virus, we first have to beat donald trump. We sure are. A Record Number of early voters have turned out. 94 million as of our count just in the last couple hours. And theres another more devastating record, too. Covid cases hitting historic highs around the country. The backdrop to an extraordinary election after a campaign that seemed to last forever. All of it coming to a head just 24 hours from now. We have an army of nbc news Battle Ground reporters all over the country as we bring you this last full day of campaigning before election day. And here to kick things off, monica alba, alli, alison, vaughn, and mark with our break down of the Battle Ground numbers. Monica, im covering the Trump Campaign in North Carolina. Youre there in wisconsin. Kenosha is the president s penultimate stop. Talk about what youre hearing from the president s rather unconventional final pitch to voters. Absolutely. The coronavirus and the campaign continue to collide and perhaps nowhere more intensely than here in wisconsin where we have seen record infections in the last week and a rolling average Positivity Rate of a whopping 30 . That is where the president will be for his penultimate rally tonight, and it comes as he has indicated at that rally last night in florida, potentially musing about firing Infectious Disease expert dr. Anthony fauci. Now, we need to point out the president doesnt have the direct authority to remove him. He could certainly try to get others to do that. But he cant on his own unilaterally. It shows you how intensely these things continue to clash. In wisconsin the president will be rallying in kenosha, its one of five stops. Hes looking ahead to what may happen tomorrow and the next day, declaring if results are close and hes worried, he will go in with his legal team. Thats something the Republican National committee has been preparing for for months. They have more than 40 election lawsuits ready to go and they will be jumping into key states. You talk about where he is, the first stop in North Carolina. And the president is going to pennsylvania before returning to the midwest. Michigan and wisconsin, the campaign feeling more optimistic about those first few states. A little bit less here about the rust belt victory that was so critical to his first win in 2016. I have to tell you, hallie, they think campaigning in person, continuing to gather thousands of people will help turn up the turn out, and thats what theyre relying on for a potential come from behind win tomorrow. Pennsylvania is really interesting. Thats where you are the with the Biden Campaign. Joe biden, Kamala Harris all over that state today. And the biden team has added an interesting stop for the vice president. Ohio. It seems to be an indication maybe they think that state can be in play. Talk to us about what the Biden Campaign is doing today. Youre seeing this interesting dichotomy in terms of the way theyve spent the last few days before election day campaigning in states that are the expand states on their maps. Places like georgia, ohio and then campaigning in more of the core Battle Ground states. Especially pennsylvania because today is day two of them barn storming the state. Joe biden here yesterday making several stops and today hes effectively splitting up pennsylvania between him and his running mate, Kamala Harris. Joe biden starting in ohio and then tracking back east to the western part of pennsylvania where hell make several stops around pittsburgh before culminating on Election Night eve with a rally with lady gaga. On the eastern side of the state in philadelphia, where i am, Kamala Harris and her husband also going to be making the closing pitches yes here in philadelphia where theyll end the night with a rally with john legend. Theyre also campaigning in the allimportant suburbs. We hear about suburban women, but the Biden Campaign targeting all facets of pennsylvania as they try to turn out the vote. This is the time in a race where things really reach a fever pitch. You really dont have to look much further than looking at what happened in texas recently. A Biden Campaign bus almost run off the road by Trump Supporters driving around it. I got to tell you as i talk to voters across the country, this kind of lends to something theyre concerned about, potential violence around election day. Potential violence after. Its something that people are sort of bracing for while we all hope, of course, that doesnt happen. Allie and monica, from corner of p other, lets go to mora. This is the same area biden launched his campaign. You are there on the ground. Whats the status of what youre seeing there . Yeah. Pennsylvania is bracing for a long couple of days as nearly 3 million mailin ballots start to be counted tomorrow. Basically pennsylvania allowing an additional three days for the mailin ballots to be counted. And state Election Officials saying theres nothing nefarious thats going to be happening in the additional three days. The president already saying hes going to be bringing in his legal team. The states attorney general pushing back, Fact Checking the president saying the election isnt over until all the ballots are counted and hes happy to he said, quote, defeat his lawyers once again. When you look at western pennsylvania, these are the communities that both joe biden and President Trump need on their path to victory. You can see this shell plant behind me. It benefits from natural Gas Production by way of fracking. Thats something weve heard from the president a lot on the campaign trail here around the conservative rural bases in pennsylvania. Hes really working to play into his base, these communities that supported him and held strong to support back in 2016. Meanwhi meanwhile, joe biden spending more time in where its a tighter race. Areas that flipped for obama going to trump, and as we see joe biden picking up a canvas with junior workers and labor leaders today. Hell start in cleveland where Josh Letterman is. If you would have told joe bidens campaign four months ago he would have spent the last day before the election in ohio, they would have given you a funny look. Donald trump trounced Hillary Clinton here by eight points last time. But now the race looks like a dead heat in ohio. Joe biden is adding a lastminute stop here in the cleveland area around midday. Nowhere in the country is the president s slide in the suburbs more acute than here in ohio. And especially in the ring counties that encircle the major cities of columbus, cincinnati, and cleveland. The president s task is to try to drive up his numbers even higher than in 2016 in the rural parts of ohio, especially along the indiana border. But those areas already saw record levels of turnout last time. Its unclear whether theres enough voters out there left to lift donald trump high enough to win ohio and the 18 electoral votes. Now over to alison barber in miami with the latest on get out the vote. Hey, josh. Any time i talk to Trump Campaign officials here in florida, theyre quick to talk about their grounding here and remind me they have been knocking and canvassing then the Biden Campaign was not. Joe biden until recently kept most of his voter outreach in this state virtual because of the covid19 pandemic. President trump and his team, they say they have knocked on about 3. 8 million doors in florida alone. But the Biden Campaign has been and is still getting help from outside groups like the one that we are with right now. This is a latinoled group who focuses on organizing the latino vote in south florida. Theyre getting assignments, preparing to dispatch and make a final push to get voters to vote tomorrow. About 64 of registered voters in this county have already voted either early or absentee. Thats where these tablets right over here come in handy for these guys. Every person getting one of those tablets. Were told it is updated in realtime with information. So all of them know which doors theyre going to and know if they are voters who have not voted yet so they can stay hyper focussed. Lets get to mesa, arizona. Thanks. Out here in the desert, the greater phoenix area, still 400,000 mailin ballots that are sitting at folks homes. Not turned in to date. Thats what in the last few days local organizations, latino organizations, labor organizations, are making that last push to get folks to bring their early ballots to drop off locations like this one here in mesa. When youre look agent the map, the big question for donald trump is to what extent does he bleed support in the suburbs . Polling has consistently indicated dating back to march that he is losing suburban voters. Losing independent voters. Struggling to break even with senior voters in the question here is to what extent can he hold onto that support and drive his own turnout in the rural parts of the state . These are the questions heading into the last few days. What extent in this county hes able to hold that support and not lose these greater phoenix neighbors. Im going to send it back to hallie in North Carolina. Thats the question for donald trump in the places where he won in 2016 and all the Battle Ground states. You can see a look at the swing states on the ground. Lets talk about the numbers with mark murray. Mark, i want to pull back the curtain a little. We talked this weekend. I want to share that we talked about how important it was, one of the lessons the pollsters learned from 2016 is to keep on polling, getting out there and talking to people and now were seeing new numbers in the Battle Ground states that show the race could be tightening a little bit in some of the key states. Yeah. What our nbc wall street journal pollsters did is went back in the field one more day, yesterday on sunday to interview 800 registered voters in the 12 combined Battle Ground states. A lot of the Battle Ground states you showed. We found that joe biden has a fivepoint lead among that oneday interviews, 51 to 46 . Thats down 1 point from our nbc wall street journal poll that came out last week. Although, change is within the margin of error. But i think three things are true. When you end up looking at our poll and other polls, number one, this has been a very stable race. It hasnt changed that much over the course of the past year. Secondly, the fundamentals are still breaking against the president. His job Approval Rating is in the fit 40s. 60 of the country believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. But the third point is the Battle Ground situation is much tighter than in the national picture. And, of course, in a lot of these Battle Ground states, you went through arizona and florida, North Carolina and others, i expect were going to have pretty tight races. And thats what Battle Grounds are. Theyre close. Hallie, one other important note, donald trump won the combined 12 states by two percentage points. Right now with joe bidens 5point lead, joe biden is overperforming for democrats from four years ago. Mark, thank you for that. I want to thank everyone. We have so much more coming up as we pick up our road show live on the Trump Campaign in a minute. Were getting a look inside the Biden Campaign also. One of his top advisers is joining us to lay out what might be a lastminute strategy shift, and what happens if the president prematurely declares victory . And the Political Risk of the president aiming at one of the most pandemic figures in the country. The dr. Fauci factor. Next. And an inside look, a live look at ballots prepped to process in all important michigan. Well be back live from cumberland county, whi. Ners who have turned into their parents. President trump, of course, having what sounds like a warning for the nations top Infectious Disease expert dr. Anthony fauci after a chance of fire dr. Fauci in the crowd at a rally just yesterday. The white house slammed dr. Fauci and his new comments to the Washington Post as unacceptable. Dr. Fauci saying in part the nation could not possibly be positioned more poorly for the winter. All on the same weekend the nation reported the biggest singleday virus numbers yet. More than 98,000 new cases on friday alone. A devastating world record confirmed cases overall in this country now nearly 9. 3 million with 232,000 deaths. I want to bring in shannon petty piece. I think the president is just getting ready to head out for his rally here. Hes going from where you are to where i am. It seems like the president may be laying the groundwork if he wins for a Coronavirus Task force overhaul. Right. Well, and you mentioned the chants at the rally here last night. They came up spontaneously from the crowd, and the president gave an off the cuff response, saying give me a little time after election, signaling he has been thinking about this. Though the white house has been back and forth with dr. Fauci. They put out a blistering statement criticizing dr. Fauci for comments he made to the Washington Post. It raises a bigger question of what is going to happen if this president is reelected to the Coronavirus Task force . Who is leading this Pandemic Response . You had scott atlas who has become the president s main adviser on coronavirus issues at late. The closest person in the white house giving interview to rt, russian propaganda television and having to come out and apologize, saying he didnt know they were a foreign agent. So much confusion and chaos in the Coronavirus Task force thats sidelined. If the president is elected to another four years, he has a lot of things he would like to get accomplished. The pandemic will remain under those, not only with cases surging but also the potential for a vaccine and distributing it and figuring out who is getting access to the vaccine. All things, i think that are sort of coming to a head as we enter the final days of the race. Shannon live for us in south florida. I think its warmer where you are. We have a lot more ahead here in North Carolina. Home to part of fort brag, one of the biggest military bases in the world. 30 minutes from now in texas a Federal District judge in houston will hear the latest arguments in a republican push to toss out more than 120,000 drive through votes in a democratic stronghold. Well take you live there next. And another red state that team biden hopes to turn blue with less than 24 hours before election day. V canvassers on a mission to convince black and brown voters in georgia to turn out tomorrow. Were in atlanta. But first, michigan, that state cannot officially start counting absentee ballots until tompl, but this morning some of them can start processing the ballots in a new step introduced by the michigan senate. We are joined now from kent county, michigan with a behind the scenes look at the new protocols. Walk us through whats going on and the different between counting and processing the ballots. Reporter yeah. Check this out. I am standing in a room filled with 52,000 ballots. All of the absentee ballots that have come back to the city of grand rapids. They cannot start counting the ballots today, but election workers can open these envelo s envelopes. We have recent College Grads on the electronic letter opener working hard. Then the envelopes go to these folks over here. They verify that the number on the ballot stub matches the number on the envelope and then those secrecy sleeves go away and get locked up until 7 00 a. M. Tomorrow morning when there is much more work to be done. This may seem like a little part of the process, but its saving them a lot of labor. Still the grand rapids city clerk said we wont get results until wednesday morning at the earliest. Thats just a way the process works. Theyre trying to be as accurate as they can be. And we will have much more of this process and of the election kovr coverage coming up live with Hallie Jackson after the break. Before money, people traded goods. Tools, cattle, grain, even shells represented value. Then currency came along. They made it out of copper, gold, silver, wampum. Soon people decided to put all that value into a piece of paper, then proceeded to wave goodbye to value, printing unlimited amounts of money as they passed the buck to the future. Thats why its time for Digital Currency and your investment in the grayscale funds. Go digital. Go grayscale. We are back live now with special election coverage from North Carolina. One of four states President Trump is hitting today. Hes on his way here to the airport. A democrat here as only won twice in the past 13 president ial elections. Still the Biden Campaign is looking at maybe an opening here and a handful of once reliably red states like texas. An emergency hearing is about to get started there. A federal judge is set to decide whether 127,000 drive through votes already cast in Harris County will count. I want to go live to our road warriors in two states trump carried in 2016 now considered tossups. Atlanta and houston. Lets talk about the 127,000 votes at stake in this mornings hearing. I know youve been all over the story. Are they confident the votes are going to count given what we heard on the state level yesterday . Y the state, the republican dominated Texas Supreme Court gave Harris County a boost by throwing out the lawsuit at the state level. Texas has been pushed into the tossup category because of this enormous turnout. 9. 5 million votes cast. More than 100,000 cast in drive through lanes. The Harris County clerk told me yesterday hes confident this will stand if the judge follows the law. Heres part of our interview. Now we go to federal court. Are you confident the feds will see this the same thing . If they follow the law, well win, no questions asked. There are over 0 100,000 voters. Their votes should koublt count. The county got a boost overnight in the form of a friendly brief from ginsburg, a republican super lawyer who said these votes should stand. They were legally cast. And i have to give you one other quick texas update. A lot of folks have seen the bus video. Trump supporters essentially doing a rolling blockade on the biden harris bus. The president was just tweeting about this, and while we could spend a whole show Fact Checking the tweets, but he said the fbi is investigating is fake news. They are true. The fbi said on the record theyre looking into what happened here on friday. Stay tuned for more updates on that. Thank you for that. P priscilla, garrett is where they are trying to expand the electoral map. And where you are, the same, obama spending part of this last day there in georgia. Right . Thats right. Hell be making a pitch to voters right here in atlanta. And democrats have been telling me for weeks that if they are to flip this state, it will be because of atlanta and the suburbs around atlanta that have been changing over the past several years becoming more diverse and beginning to lean more in favor of democrats. And we know there are going to be canvassers out and about throughout these areas today working to capture those folks who have not yet who have not yet voted. Right now about 50 of voters on the road in georgia have voted. Lots of votes to capture. Were going to join the georgia project as they speak to black and brown voters working to turn them out in neighborhoods. They were supposed to be canvassing in this neighborhood, but a field organizer tells us they were actually asked to leave. And so it is perhaps telling just how contentious this race is. And how ready they are for it to be over. They were asked to leave why . Just because they werent welcome . Yeah. Thats what were trying to figure out. We got a call from them saying they had to move a mile up the road because folks here, someone here complained about them being in the neighborhood. And so were going to try to learn more about what happened there. Okay. Thank you to you both. To talk about this, let me bring in from the Biden Campaign, simone sanders. Thank you for being on the show. Thank you for having me. Happy election eve. Happy election eve indeed. We are here on the campaign trail. Lets talk about that trail. We just heard from a couple reporters in a place where your campaign, your candidate is looking to expand the map. Im interested in his visit to ohio today. It seems like you may be looking at numbers that show some of the states may be in play. Why and give us a sense of the mood in the last 24 hours. The mood is good. We have been on the ground today. Vice president biden, senator harris, dr. Biden and doug em of are fanning out address not just pennsylvania but as you noted, ohio. Because we are fighting for every single vote. We have had report turnout thus far in the cycle. I believe more than 90 i think its more than 95 million folks have voted, and at this point thats well surpassing this point in 2016. What we also know, frankly, is that a number of people particularly folks that we identified as our voters, were going to vote on election day. This is a push to mobilize folk fos go to the polls tomorrow and cast their ballots while weve had record turnouts, there are millions more votes to get out there. Were encouraging people to go to the polls tomorrow. Something like 36 hours from now roughly well be on the air with our special coverage as the returns are coming in. President trump denied a report that on Election Night hes planning to declare victory even if we dont have all the results. I want to play that for you. Watch. Its a false report. I think its terrible when we cant know the results of an election the night of the election. Were going to go in the night of as soon as that election is over, were going in with our lawyers. Let me do a quick context. States have always counted past Election Night. Weve never had final certified results on Election Night. But i have to ask as the president says were going with our lawyers, are you is the Biden Campaign ready to go in with lawyers as well depending on how it goes . Wee are extremely prepared for a number of scenarios. But the scenario were expecting is were expecting to win this handily. We believe, and by that i mean we believe the voters of this country will be heard. Look, people, the people of this country are going to decide who the next president of the United States is. You have the president over not just yesterday, but over a number of weeks has been sewing doubt about this election. Has been trying to intimidate and scare folks in my opinion from not going to the polls. And hes also really wanting to cast a cloud over what could happen tomorrow night or the following days this week. We are encouraging voters to know you have the power. Not donald trump. And it is up to the voters and the people of our great country who will have the final say. So regardless of what the president decides to do tomorrow, we are confident in the people, but also the news media, because you all are holding not just President Trump accountable, but i have to ask, you say youre preparing for all sscenarios. This president has said and they indicated they are planning legal challenges depending on how the night goes. Are you ready . Is that one of the scenarios youre prepping for . Do you have theed a voi sors ready to go to combat the Court Challenges if it gets to that . Absolutely. But again, we are focussed on ensuring the vote is turned out and that the people are going to the polls and we expect weve done our job and expect to have good news coming out this week. Were prepared for a number of different scenarios over the next couple of days, and i think youll be hearing a lot from our Campaign Today and tomorrow just about what were seeing and our Voter Protection. One of the things weve seen if you were able to listen to the live report from texas just ahead of our interview here, was this caravan of Trump Supporters that the fbi is investigating for potentially harassing one of your campaign buses. If federal investigators been in touch with your campaign at this point . I am not familiar with the federal investigation of the fbi and the campaign bus in texas. But what i can tell you is this. I was on the ground in texas. That day i was with senator harris. We were not on that bus. We were in another part of the state. And we saw a number of folks out there, but yes, we saw these trump caravans. What i was encouraged by, frankly, are the amount of biden harris supporters who showed up who were not going to be violent, who wanted to come and hear what senator harris had to say and talk about the plan. I am encouraged that we have the power to select. Regardless of the folks that folks are listening to on twitter or online. The majority of the people who cast their ballots have done so safely, and were expecting a smooth election day. If people are going to the polls tomorrow, if you see voter intimidation or anything unusual, there are many Voter Protection hotlines that well put out and a number of nonpartisan organizations. If you see something, say something. Were looking forward to a good election day tomorrow. Simone, thank you for joining us and for your time on a busy 48 hours for you and your team. Tomorrow its a busy day for us. We have special Election Night coverage starting 4 00 eastern right here on msnbc. So this is joe biden here just in the last couple minutes in delaware. One day left he seems today before boarding his flight to ohio, to cleveland. In that state in pennsylvania, in michigan, in all these Battle Grounds, you have campaigns and grass roots volunteers trying to reach voting blocks including in North Carolina where the fight over evangelicals could be crucial. Our new nbc news reporting out this morning explains that strategy in action with my colleague carol lee writing while the Trump Campaign has urged evangelicals to focus on policies. Biden is asking them to judge their candidates on the personalities and character of the candidates. Morgan is outside the democratic Head Quarters in charlotte. Talk to me about what youre seeing from the folks youre spending time with today. Well, hallie, youre looking at the ground game as we speak. Here at the democratic Head Quarters they have grab bags filled with masks and Hand Sanitizer sanitizers. The democrats in North Carolina are trying to peel off the exact same voters who are now saying theyre not going to support donald trump. The people who initially had put him in office in 2016. And here in North Carolina the president is moving support among White College educated voters women and those in the suburbs. I want to introduce you to alison, exactly the bulls eye of the target that both campaigns are trying to reach. Alison, you are a lifelong republican. Lifelong, absolutely. Who are you voting for this year in. Joe biden. Theres no doubt in my mind. I cant imagine let myself think about voting for trump. As a republican, why . Hes so divisive. He is racism. Its beyond me to understand him. And what message hes put out except that hes just so hes malicious. Let me ask you this. Youre going to have to take i want to tell the poll numbers. Youre a demographic people are targeting. A College Educated voter in the suburbs. What about bidens message got to you . I think hes going to build up relationships in internationally. Thats kind of what youre looking for . Absolutely. Hallie, there you have it. This is the state to watch, especially because of the swing voters like alison. Morgan, youre a little bit away from where we are in charlotte, there as were in fayetteville. Thank you for that reporting. I want to bring in the states attorney general. Thank you for being with us. And forgive me, were sort of talking over the rally play list music here in front of the Trump Campaigns rally. We expect the president here sometime in the next hour. The president has been clear and his campaign about the potential of sending in lawyers right after the election. Seemingly to review votes in states like yours where the mailin ballots could take time to be counted. The president making claims there could be in fraud in places that take more time to count the results. What is your comment to those statements . His comments are disheartening as an american. The people of North Carolina and america need to know that the politicians dont decide who wins and loses elections. It is the people. It is the voter. So have your voice heard. Here in North Carolina, already more than four and a half million north carolinians have voted. Thats a mind boggling number. 95 of the entire electorate from 2016. So the peoples will be heard on november third. What can and what cannot the president s lawyers do during the period between when polls closed and the results are announced . I really doesnt matter what they do. Because the law is what the law is. If youre an eligible voter, you can vote safely, securely, and easily here in North Carolina. As i mentioned, 4. 5 million california North Carolina citizens have. We expect more tomorrow. Well add them up. It may take a few days. 97 of the ballots will be counted on Election Night, but in an exceptionally close election, which is exactly what happened in 20 16 in our governors race, it was less than a tenth of a percentage point. It took another two weeks toed a in the late arriving mailin ballots and we added them up. The winner was roy cooper. Hes been our governor and done a great job. Thats exactly whats going to happen this time. Well count the ballots and the one who wins the most will become the wictor. Whats the estimate for timeline if you had to put a number of date on it . It all depends again on how close the election is. If its more than a percent, i think the race will be over on Election Night. If its within a one or two tenths of a point, it could take two weeks to count all the votes and well do it. Weve done it before. The winner will be the one who earns the most votes. Okay. I have to ask about the pepper spray incident in graham. You had officers in riot gear. It seemed to be ordering demonstrators to move all the street. Deployed pepper based vapor. The Police Department describing the use of force as justified. Do you believe that was an adequate response . Well, i was deeply troubled just like every person who watched the videos was. Ive talked to the organizers, the law enforcement. Ive talked to the state board elections. The law is clear. No one can be blocked from voting. You cant be obstructed, harassed or intimidated. If that happened to anyone in graham, let the state board of elections know. If it happens tomorrow, let your precinct official know immediately. With us now, host of msnbcs american voices. You sat down with a couple of different panels that represent both sides of the gender gap, right . What is driving latina women to biden and latino men to President Trump . What is the sense of what youre getting from these folks . To be clear, a majority of latino men do support joe biden, but there is what experts call some trump curiosity among other latino men. Among those we spoke with in south florida, they talked about the president s handling of the economy, what they perceive as the strength of his leadership, and they repeated this attack that weve heard from the president against joe biden, especially here in south florida. This idea that while joe biden is not a socialist himself, he is, quote, a trojan horse for socialism. But, hallie, the big story here really is latinas. They are fired up against donald trump, and they are driving the gender gap. Theyll talk about the issues, health care, the economy, the president s handling of this pandemic, but it is, above all else for them, a question of character and morality. We also heard the flip of that socialism argument. Theyre arguing this president has authoritarian tendencies. Take a listen. Some of us, all of us, actually came here running away from a populous, autocratic dictator, like me. I came here looking for a Better Future for my son. Running away, at that point, from chavez and then nicholas maduro. Those personality traits are exactly in donald trump. In past elections, latinas have turned out at 14 to 20 points lower than nonhispanic black and white women. This year, democrats are hoping latinas will help drive up the numbers in states like florida and arizona. Hallie . Thank you for that.
