Between the senates top democrat and nations top judge. Any minute the live shot to the left of the screen youll see Mitch Mcconnell with sources telling us he will slam Chuck Schumer after the democrat called out two Supreme Court justices, comments getting a rare rebuke electric the sprblgt justice. Whats the difference what schumer said and what President Trump said. Plus the attack on Bernie Sanders with both democratic frontrunners making real news in exclusive interviews right here on msnbc and nbc. In exclusive interviews right here on msnbc and nbc. He said joe is running a campaign, which is obviously heavily supported by the corporate establishment. What do you think about that argument . Its ridiculous. Ridiculous. His record and my record, his vision and my vision are very, very different. Weve got our team covering all of these stories and more this morning. We want to start on the coronavirus crisis. Nbcs erin mclaughlin. Steve patterson, kasie hunt on capitol hill. Don chu joining us watching the markets at cnbc headquarters. Lets start with you, get us up to speed on the developments. There have been many of them overnight. We have a new one in the last few minutes. We just got confirmation of new case in grant county washington. This will be the first case outside of king county and snohomish. More evidence this thing is spreading or left unchecked over the last few weeks. I want to start with some of the recommendations weve been hearing from the Health Department in king county, the seattle area. The broadness and specificity that is signaling to people this is entering daily life in a way in which we have not seep yet. The recommendations from the public Health Department now singling out anyone over 60, anyone with prior Underlying Health conditions, any women that are pregnant to not only avoid congregating but avoid public spaces. These are recommendations not mandates but it will have an impact on daily life. Want to talk about workplace recommendations. Several companies telling workers if its feasible to stay home to do so. To communicate instead by internet, telecommunication. There are Big Name Companies were talking about. Microsoft, amazon, facebook had its first case of coronavirus in the seattle office. It is shutting down for the time being. Other Companies Like rei. This is impacting schools. The north shore cool district houses 22 to 23,000 students. 33 schools. That district announced it will shut down for the next 14 days at least two weeks as other schools and districts monitor the situation as well. Several schools outside of that district deciding to shut down today for deep cleaning tass they make that decision day by day. This is all capped off by the fact Vice President mike pence is going to be here today meeting with the governor, having a press conference. Were just hearing, too, that the nursing care facility behind me, the one thats been at the center of this since day one now has six of the ten deaths. Were hearing they will officially Start Testing every single patient inside that care facility. That is a big source of relief for family members who have loved ones inside the facility there. That is for sure. Im told by aides, governor insi inslee and Vice President pence. I know youll stay on top of that. Youre by the cruise ship parked off the coast of california here. The cdc is going to be sending out, i believe, some testing kits to that ship today . Yeah. Thats right, hallie, thats expected to happen this morning. Over 2500 passengers, over 1,000 crew members currently being held off the coast of sflans while they are waiting for test kits to be choppered out to the cruise liner. Over 100 people tested according to princess cruise liners, including 21 individuals, according to the california state governor, that are exhibiting flulike symptoms. Over 60 passengers tested, guests on the previous cruise, the same vessel that went to mexico last month arriving back february 21st. Thats particularly problematic because two passengers for that crew have tested positive for coronavirus including an elderly man in his 70s died of the disease. That confirmed by the california state governor yesterday, testing positive for the coronavirus. They are extremely concerned for the situation currently unfolding on the cruise liner. The big question at this point, if anyone tests positive, thats not clear yet, anyone tests positive on the cruise liner, what happens next . Will they be quarantined on the vessel, let off in san francisco, what will the Health Officials do . Youve got that going on in california and washington state. Back here in washington, kasie hunt, youve got action on the hill. The senate approving the emergency package to get billions of dollars. Behind closed doors talking. Thats right, hallie. This is one of those situations where we are able to see congress get itself together under pressure, find a bipartisan effort and move quickly on it. This request from the white house much lower than what congress ended up passing. Its going to be 8. 3 billion. 3 billion for Vaccine Research and development, 2 billion for prevention and preparedness, a billion for medical supplies and health care preparedness. Also 5 billion for medicare. What is that focused on . Focused on allowing medicare to allow our Elder Citizens to use telehealth to call doctors. That would protect them from going to their doctors office, hospital, some place the virus may be present and may be a greater threat. As Steve Patterson was reporting, this is a greater more significant threat for elderly people. We have sort of seen that start to emerge. Congress trying to take that into account. As you said, the house passed that overwhelm ingingly yesterd sending it to the senate. We expect that to be passed in the senate. I know white house colleagues reporting, we expect president to sign the bill this week. Trying to get this response off the ground. Also briefing from administration officials. There are some democratic members who said this is too little, too late. They said this response by the white house has been jerryrigged built as they went along. There is a sense the Vice President mike pence offered some reinsurance here. There was a briefing from top four members, two from each side of the hill about the Capitol Building itself and how operations here might be affected in the event there is some sort of outbreak here in washington, d. C. Right now, though, the message overall no need to panic, hallie. Kasie hunt, keep an eye on the developments on the hill. Youve got, geoff bennett, President Trump watching all of this. Hes pushing back this morning on some criticism he got from that interview overnight on Sean Hannitys program about what hes saying and how hes handling this coronavirus messaging, if you will. I want to play a little of what the president had to say, what his top experts have said, and then well talk about it. Watch. A lot of people will have this, and its very mild. Thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better, just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work. Some of them go to work. You get sick. Stay home. Youre not helping your colleagues by going to work sick. Globally, 3 of 4 persons that reported covid19 have died. I think 3. 4 is a false number. This is just my hunch. Personally i would say the number is way under 1 . We make policy recommendations and analysis of what were going to recommend based on accumulation of data. Data is very important. Dr. Fauci talking about how data is important. The number may end up changing but the president is talking about his hunch and feelings on this. Make of his critics are concerned about that. Right. There is a sense the president , and the tape speaks for itself, the president is spreading false information. Hes trying to downplay the threat posed by coronavirus. You saw there hes really basically undercutting the World Health Organizations factbased assessment of the overall death threat the president says based on his hunch. In that interview wit reported. Yesterday he blamed the Obama Administration for a decision, some sort of federal rule at the time he says, is linked to the slow rollout of the cdc test kits. I talked to Public Health expert who say no such obama era rule existed. If theres a slowness, its because the cdc decided to develop and deploy its own test, which didnt work. Youre right. The president is now lashing out telling his critics he did not say what he was accused of saying, saying if you feel sick you should good to work. A tweet hes fired off in the last hour. He says, i never said people feeling sick should go to work. The rest is filled with ad hominem attacks were not going to repeat. You see in the clip, thousands of people get better just by sitting around or even going to work. Some of them go to work, but they get better. Setting aside the president s role in this, we should say and kasie spoke to this, too there are Public Health experts that give the Administration High marks on front. Naming debra burke to the overall coronavirus response. Shes an obama appointee. She brings to the job 30 plus years of relevant experience. Ive talked to people who say if shes empowered to do the work, that will be all good. Hallie. Geoff bennett, live for us there at the white house. Jeff, thank you. I want to go to dom chu at cnbc headquarters. The time we talked on the air, dow, s p, all down this morning 10 off their record closes. What is going on here . Whats going on, over the last week and a half weve gone on together to talk about uncertainty around coronavirus and what the ultimate impact will be not just on markets but economically here in the United States and around the world. You heard kasie hunt talk about the idea that congress is getting ready to pass 8. 3 billion. 8. 3 billion is a lot of money. The global air transport authority, trade associations that manages Airlines Says that the Global Airline business will lose between 63 billion and 123 billion worth of revenues just this year alone tied to coronavirus. All that uncertainty is driving a lot of that market action. It remains the same way. Dom chu. Thanks for breaking us down. Kasie, jeff, erin, steve, thanks to all of you. We have a lot more to get to on the show including right now Supreme Court showdown getting a new throwdown from somebody else, Mitch Mcconnell live on the senate floor as we speak. You can see him there. Hes stepping into the fight between Chuck Schumer and chief Justice John Roberts. Well take you there after the break. A 2020 exclusive. Joe bidens first interview since his super tuesday stunner right here on msnbc, talking about Bernie Sanders and whether he needs secret service after that viral moment when his wife stopped a protester. I think thats something that has to be outrageous some of this becomes. Is that scary . Ill tell you, my wife is Something Else, isnt she . E . They are both very much hand in hand. So you should really be focusing on both and definitely at the same time. We are watching a new flash point, not just the capital but the building next to it between the nations chief Justice John Roberts and top democrat Chuck Schumer. In the last few minutes during commercial break you heard Mitch Mcconnell laying into schumer accusing him of threatening two Supreme Court justices at a womens right hearing on capitol hill yesterday. The minority leader of the United States senate threatened two associate justices of the Supreme Court period. Theres no other way to interpret that. Well let you listen for yourself. Mcconnell, president , krves, media all seizing on this morning. I want to tell you, gorsuch, i want to tell you, kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price. You wont know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions. Let me bring in justice correspondent williams and blake, whose piece, why you should care about Chuck Schumer, john roberts dustup. Mitch mcconnell is still live on the senate floor. Here is part of the statement from the chief justice who says, quote, threatening statements of this sort from the highest level of government are not om appropriate, they are dangerous. Schumer says this whole thing is blown out of proportion, just talking boult paying a political price. Tell us how unusual it is for chief justice to come out with Something Like this. Very. Once he criticized an obama judge, we dont have obama judges, bush judges, we just have judges. At one point i was a government spokesman, i sympathize with Chuck Schumers spokesman trying to clean up yesterday. This is what he said. Senator schumers comments were referenced to political price Senate Republicans will pay for putting these justices on the court. An interesting idea. Clearly its not what he said. He said, gorsuch, kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind, you will pay the price. You wont know what hit you if you go forward this these awful decisio decisions. I dont know what hes talking about on these decisions, they havent voted on the abortion decisions. Gorsuch has never had an abortion decision since hes been on the bench. Kavanaugh is clearly someone who would be interested in limiting access to abortion. Thats one point. I think perhaps what schumer was doing is echoing the words kavanaugh said in his. Canation hearing. You may recall he said since my nomination in july theres been a frenzy on the left to come up with something, anything to block my confirmation. You sewed the wind and they will reap. I want to play that back and forth. I want to tell you, gorsuch, i want to tell you, kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You sewed the wind. For decades to come, i feel the whole country will reap the whirlwind. You think hes trying to play off of that. I suppose so. Again, what senator schumer said, kavanaugh, gorsuch, you have released the whirlwind. I dont know what he was saying. We didnt see just now in what he was saying before he got to this point. Was he saying states around the country have passed a number of law that restrict access to abortion. Remember last year we had all these laws intending to tee up a case for the Supreme Court that undermined fundamental holding of roe v. Wade. I take what he said at face value. Its what he meant to say not what he said. Let me go to you and play off what pete said here. It is unusual for the chief justice to come out and say Something Like this. Chuck schumer isnt apologizing. Our team caught up with him a couple weeks ago and ask if he would say hes sorry. He said, hey, i released the statement pete was talking about. Where does this go from here . Its interesting. Certainly republicans are trying to cast this in the worst light, talking in terms of some independent could of physical threat. If you look at the comments, even if you read them in the least nefarious light possible, he was still saying there would be some kind of retribution here. There would be a grassroots rising up against the Supreme Court if these justices rule the wrong way. Thats really interesting first, of course, as pete mentioned. They havent actually ruled on the case yet. It is a threat. Also because hes treating these justices like political actors. That is a Common Thread weve seen over the last several years here. Most notably with the president talking about oklahoma judges. Also Mitch Mcconnell talking about how installing justices and judges is some kind of political accomplishment. I think whats interesting here and it didnt make a big splash at the time. There was amicus brief filed in which there was an implied threat of political reckoning if the court ruled in the wrong way. This seems to be something that Democratic Senators are actively promoting, an idea theres a political reckoning to have if the frequent rules against democrats. This party line here, the moment were in you write about in the Washington Post this morning, political and judicial, if you will. On the left, reporting things President Trump said about the judiciary in the past, everything from talking about justice sotomayer, for example, talking about heritage. We have a list up there. You have conservative media, those on the right pouncing on schumer saying hes politicizing the court. When you look at this, and youre writing about this today, how do you see that playing out . Well, two things can be true, democrats can be politicizing the court, which this is clearly an example of and republicans dont really have much of a leg to stand on here. The president s comments on judges throughout his team both before he was president and during, i mean, they were severe enough to draw his own rebuke from john roberts. When Mitch Mcconnell goes to the Supreme Court and barbs democrats for an independent judiciary, he should probably mention trump as well. Aaron black from warrant post. Thank you for being on with us. Were watching for more that could play out on the senate floor as we speak. Well keep you posted. The once crowded race now becoming a twoman race. Already rolling out new strategies they hope break through facing a moderate way with a bunch of new primaries just days away. Biden responding to one of sanders shots in an exclusive nbc interview on the today show this morning. He said joe is running a campaign, which is obviously heavily supported by the corporate establishment. What do you think about that argument . Its ridiculous. Its ridiculous. Bernie, you got beaten by overwhelming supportive from the africanamerican community, bernie. You got beaten because of suburban women, bernie. You got beaten because of middle class hardworking folks out there, bernie. Nbc covering the campaign. Biden going after bernie as he said about 10 times, pretty hard. Whats the campaign saying about that and the potential revamp Going Forward shaq. Were going to hear a lot of that. Senator sanders starting his day in burlington, vermont. What youre going to see is targeting march 10th and march 17th states. Going from burlington to phoenix, arizona today. Youre starting to hear the messageing that senator sanders is using especially when combating Vice President biden. He sees this as a fundamental race between himself and Vice President biden, the two ends of the political spectrum there. Youre hearing him go after biden on issues like social security. We saw that with the ad. As he goes to michigan, hell talk about nafta. Also biden on iraq war vote. Youre also hearing senator sanders acknowledge areas in which he needs to grow if he wants to do better in the primary process. Listen what he told Rachel Maddow in an exclusive interview last night. One of the issues that should be talked about to his credit, and i wish we could do better, joe biden is doing well with people 65 and older. Were not. Were doing with 25 and younger. Historically younger people have not voted in the numbers one would like them to vote. Its going up but nowhere near as high as it is. Reporter not just on policy youre hearing these two campaigns go after one another with. Sanders Campaign Announced they raised 5. 5 million since super tuesday. For Vice President biden that number was 7 brewster live in burlington. Thank you. With me former Campaign Manager for cory bookers president ial campaign and amanda renter renteria, former director for Hillary Clintons campaign. Thank you for being here. Let me start with you. This new Sanders Campaign ad referenced here. You have president obama featured in it. Thats probably the last person a lot of folks looking at Bernie Sanders expected to see in one of his ads talking about how people are ready for a call to action, et cetera. Is this going to work or so sort of contradictory with the way sanders ran with the establishment that it seems inauthentic. Whats your sense . Well see. I dont know if it will work but certainly a former democratic president of the United States is about as quote, unquote, establishment as it gets. I think what sanders realizes is he doesnt have a big enough piece of the pie yet to get to 50 plus one and delegates to get to the nomination. Has he a very strong base of young people, latinos in the west, api folks, progressives but its just not enough. Youve got to grow the pie. Theres nobody who appeals to more democrats than barack obama. Hes giving it a shot. Well see if it works next tuesday Going Forward. Youre right, support among young voters. Joe biden does not. That is fair to say a weak spot for his campaign, one that folks do acknowledge. How does he turn that around . You know, i think so everybody wakes up after super tuesday and realize you have another election around the corner. Two questions, one, how do you build on the momentum. Two, how do you expand the base. Theres no doubt joe biden did great over the last week. Hes got to prove he can continue to do that. Where he does expand, he needs to expand with young voters and latinos and i think youll see the campaign do that now that they have resources, now that they have momentum behind them. You know, amanda, senator Elizabeth Warren and how she thinks, somebody who has a plan for everything. It seems maybe she doesnt have a plan now for what is next as shes assessing her next steps forward. If you were working on her campaign, advising her, what would you telller . I think one of the things for Elizabeth Warren is shes so set on her plans p one of the things she has to ask herself is what is the best way to move that forward. I remember talking to her team in 2016, shes incredibly thoughtful. She really does think beauty how can she move something forward. Ive got to tell you. You can go either direction, go with bernie base and progressive base where youve been working out these plans and take a look and say maybe i can be somebody that can bring the Party Together. I know shes dealing with that now. Theres no doubt shes always been incredibly thoughtful and has a plan and im sure well all see it in the coming days. Sooner rather than later one would think, if she does drop out. These are hypotheticals. If that were to happen, if she were to endorse Bernie Sanders, for example, how much do you think that moves the needle for him overall. It would help tremendously. Again, bernies problem now is he needs to figure how to win in a oneonone race. It was enough. What he had was enough when there were seven candidates in the race a week ago today. If senator warren were to get out of the race, wed be down to two candidates in less than a week. Remarkable consolidation. With her at his back hed be able to get a little closer to getting minority. My guess is the sanders team is working hard behind the scenes to convince her not to jump out of the race or quickly, as pete and amy did last week, put her support behind him if she were to do that. For all this talk about endorsement, i have to ask you, where is senator bookers head on all of this . Let me just say this. I spoke for him for a year, i ran his campaign. I dont speak for him anymore. I know hes thinking hard about who to support. I knorr hes thinking hard about his own race in november. I dont know the answer to that. I know whoever gets his support is going to be really, really lucky to have him. Amanda, four days left, a little less before the next election. Whats one thing youre looking for between now and the next set of votes. Both of them really building their strength, really showing organization now, can make it all the way through to the convention. No easy process. Youve got to get an organization together while youre moving as fast as you can every morning. Amanda renteria, great to have you both on. Thanks for your expertise. Talking about all this coming up, also Chuck Schumer on the senate floor right now. Weve been talking about this back an forth between him and chief Justice John Roberts. Senator schumer not apologizing but did indicate regret saying i should not have used the words i used. The senator stepping away from the senate floor. Well keep an eye on how that plays out today. In california, state of emergency after a man got sick on a cruise ship held off the coast until everybody can get screened. I want to bring in msnbc science, specialist, was on the Ebola Outbreak in africa. Thanks for being with us. Thank you. Let me get your reactions to the new headlines in and bill did deblausio. How concerning is it these two patients didnt have contact with others who had coronavirus . Its concerning but not unexpected. We have communitybased transmission we know of in washington. As ive said earlier, if we have communitybased transmission in one location its inevitablew w will see it elsewhere across the nation. People are asked to work at home. How will that help . It will help but wont work for everyone. If you work for fastfood restaurant, for example, staying at home could mean the difference between rent and not having rent. Its ideal people would stay at home and employers would allow employees to work from home but not always feasible. Joseph ive got to interrupt you and i appreciate you breaking down facts on coronavirus. We have breaking 2020 news stand that is that senator Elizabeth Warren is suspending her campaign according to sources. I want to go straight to ali vitali who covers that camp. Ali, shes going to be announcing that pretty soon . Yeah, hallie. I just heard from a source familiar with the senators thinking that shes going to suspend her campaign informing her staff in a phone call in just a little while. Look, this comes after a few days of deliberation. We knew yesterday the senator was reassessing her campaign after a pretty rough night on super tuesday. Thats a night her campaign pushed forward to as a big part of their strategy. Now we know that night did enough to get her out of this race. As someone who covered the campaign for a year, the kind of person on the campaign trail, this is someone who regularly made time most available person to the press corps taking questions almost every day we were out with her. She also made a lot of time to be with voters. The selfie line and talking to voters every day was a key part of the dna of her campaign and the way she campaigned out there as a president ial candidate. I think its also really striking we started this race with the most diverse field of Democratic Candidates ever. Now with Elizabeth Warren dropping out, yes, i know Tulsi Gabbard is still in this race but with Elizabeth Warren dropping out, voters will now likely only have a choice between two white men who are older than 75 on the democratic side of the ticket. Three if you factor in one of those guys going up against President Trump in november. We finally have the pinpoint on this news that Elizabeth Warren is suspending her campaign. We are going to hear from her in a little bit. Im told shell talk to us around noon here, sort of book ending her campaign in the same way it started. She started this campaign at the start of 2019 here in cambridge, talking with reporters outside her house and thats exactly how shes going to end it today, hallie. Any word, ali, whether or not she will throw her support behind somebody else left in the race yet . That is the key question. I dont know if well hear that from her when she actually gets on the phone with her staff. Part of the reason why theres been so much quiet around whats going to happen with Elizabeth Warrens decision. She has a tightknit group of people around her. Her staff has been with her in a lot of cases for many years since the first senate race. They wanted her to make this decision and choice and announcement to suspend her campaign herself. Obviously now ahead of when shell tell staff. I think whats important to this group of people, allowing Elizabeth Warren the time to not just make the decision of what her own fate is but if shes going to endorse somebody. I say if, i know theres pressure to pick a side at this point. Bernie sanders is applying the pressure, all the other candidates who jumped in and backed joe biden after they dropped out, that applies pressure. At the same time Elizabeth Warren modus oppose ranerandi h to enact hour so she can enact her vision out on the campaign trail. Whether endorsing now or later, im not in the room, in her head, i dont know what shes considering when shes making that decision but were hoping to find out soon what it is. Al, i want you to stand by. I want to bring in somebody who covers a competitors campaign, mike men lee who covers joe biden. Washington post from a couple of sources that interestingly Biden Associates have been in talks with folks close to warren about maybe trying to get her to throw support behind him. This is going to be a really interesting few lets say days, potentially weeks, because i dont think well see Elizabeth Warren tip her hand immediately about where shes going to support. Most people would see her dropping out of the race and think idealogically which candidate does she align with the most, Bernie Sanders. We should remember what happened four years ago when the former Vice President joe biden was considering running for president in 2016. There was a courtship of Elizabeth Warren back then that included a meeting at naval observatory, Vice President s residence and there was a discussion about a role for her on a biden ticket at the time. The other question here, and i think anybody involved in politics wants to know, talk about leverage. Where does Elizabeth Warren have the most leverage now . The decision about endorsement. She wants to have a conversation with joe biden. She wants to potentially have the Vice President court her. She knows what role she can play in bringing the nomination home to joe biden at this point. She does have political leverage at this point. The early read from the biden campaign, they are absorbing the information. We would expect they would have had some conversations. Absorbing the information. Thats interesting. Thats right. All right. A number of his former rivals. Obviously some have been quick to jump out and endorse him. This is one that is going to be a little bit of a waiting game. The question, hallie, does the lack of an endorsement to Bernie Sanders immediately act as a blow to his campaign. Does that say something, too, with even just the silence there. Stay by your camera, ali by her camera, getting Shaq Brewster up who does cover the biden campaign. I want to go to somebody who knows not just the state well but the candidate, somebody that endorsed joe biden, congressman from massachusetts. Congressman, we brought you on to talk about Something Else but ive got to ask you about this developing news as we speak. Elizabeth warren out of this race. Your reaction. Well, she brought a unique and distinct voice to this field. Theres no question. But one thing we hear across the country from literally every democrat is weve got to get together to unify to beat donald trump and unify this country again. What you see now is senator warren being a team player. Do you hope she makes an endorsement, a, in the next five days . And b, that its your guy. Of course. She would be wonderful to have on team biden. Democrats from all sides of the political spectrum are seeing joe biden as the unifying leader that he is. He is the person that can take the fight to donald trump and make sure we win this election. As i said before, bring this country back together again. Thats what we need right now in america. Having senator warren on team biden would be tremendous. Lets say she doesnt do that, congressman. Lets say she does end up supporting senator sanders. Reporting this morning there was pressure on her between those two campaigns. If she does decide to throw her support behind senator sanders, how much of a blow is that to the former Vice President . Look, im not a pundit, so i cant tell you the exact answer to that question. All i know is all the momentum is now is with joe biden. The Vice President is the person out there, the Vice President is a person who continues to gather support. Ill tell you something interesting. Every single warren voter i know, many from massachusetts has told me over the last week they are shifting their support to biden, not sanders. I know you have to sprint to a vote. Appreciate you being here. Before you you about the coronavirus virus briefing you were in. Are you satisfied with the way that President Trump himself is leading his administrations response . No, absolutely not. The president is completely making light of this. He says a cure will appear like a miracle any second, that well have a sacvaccine right away, n of these are true. Increasingly i do see the rest of his administration getting their act together, working with congress and making sure we have a unified, sciencebased approach to solving this challenge for america. We need to see more of that from the president and from the Vice President , too. This is the Vice President who when he was in congress voted against a needle sharing program, a vote that made the hiv epidemic worse than it had to be. We all have to focus on the science here. Thats what we have to could to fight this virus. Molten, thank you for your time. Shack br Shaq Brewster is bac with you. Ali, do you have more for us . Mike and i have both been talking about leverage but thinking about what an endorsement would mean, whether it goes to Bernie Sanders or to joe biden, i was looking at some of the polling. This is a point that weve talked about consistently. It doesnt mean just because Elizabeth Warren exists in that socalled progressive lane, her supporters are not automatically going to just go to Bernie Sanders. Certainly there is a them that would immediately go to sanders vo. On the biden side of it, 20 some odd percent of her supporters said they would go for somebody like buttigieg. It doesnt mean theres a direct transition there but at the same time, i just want us to not necessarily assume that all of the warren supporters are automatically going to go to Bernie Sanders because thats the power of this endorsement. When you listen to how Elizabeth Warren has talked about Bernie Sanders not just a few days ago when she was on the debate stage in south carolina, she pointed out his people trarshed her for her medicare for all transition. This is something that is not forgotten. She brought that out on the debate stage publicly. She and sanders, think about that moment on the debate stage in iowa when one was saying about the other was lying in the 2018 meeting when sanders told her he didnt think a woman could beat President Trump. I know they spoke yesterday, people in the warren orbit have been tight lipped about that and you watch Bernie Sanders being very careful, too. Shaq, i know this news is only out for 7 30 here, but are you getting any early read from folks on team sanders about where their heads are at . Reporter weve been reaching out but nothing yet from the Sanders Campaign, but not surprising when you remember what he said to Rachel Maddow. What you heard from sanders is he was praising her, he praised the campaign she was running and praised the ideas she was giving about and wanted it give her space to make the decision as she was then assessing the campaign. Senator sanders and Elizabeth Warren, they have a long relationship. They have an extensive relationship. Theyve known each other since before Elizabeth Warren was a senator, but it was also a relationship that got tested during the course of this campaign. There was that debate moment that ali mentioned where she confronted him right after and accused him of calling her a liar on national televisionthere were disagreements on policy. She had that different medicare for all transition plan. There was a gap between the two progressive allies but on policy they are very similar and on the debate stage you saw their ideas aligned much of the time. One other thing ill point out in that it came up during it that back and forth we saw in january, senator sanders has a lot of respect for Elizabeth Warren and you heard that in defense of that comment. He said it was back in 2016 before he ran for the first time that he deferred to Elizabeth Warren in that president ial campaign. He supported that draft warren movement. It remains to be seen how hes going to respond but i can only expect to see a very favorable, positive response and tone for Elizabeth Warren. Lets talk about some of these numbers and play off of what ali was just discussing about the second choice. For warren, for candidates receiving above 5 in quinnipiacs february poll, its sanders but it was also buttigieg who dropped out and klobuchar who dropped out. Ali makes the point it is not a guaranteed deal that all warren supporters are going to back Bernie Sanders. Is that fair to say . Yeah. My assumption is it would be a 50 50 split, that half of warren supporters would go to support Bernie Sanders and half would go to biden. Its important to take two things in mind. First are past actions. Elizabeth warren did not endorse anyone in the 2016 election until that nominating fight was over, Hillary Clinton was won, she enforced. So i wouldnt be surprised if that is an avenue she takes dpen again in this 2020 cycle. The other thing is the current delegate reality. When all the delegates are counted after super tuesday and as we look to future contests, joe biden is in a formidable position right now. You tonight want to endorse who you think will be in second place. It may leave warren to say maybe i stay out of this for now and use my influence going now. Warren with 50 delegates in this race. Amanda renteria is back with us. 20 minutes ago we were talking about this very distinct possibility happening and now here we are with senator warren suspending her campaign. I want to say one thing. My phone has been going off ever since this news was out there. For women especially, i think are quite a few folks who are tuning in, who will be watching what she has to say, for many people who wanted to is he a many would on the stage, this is sort of a sad moment for her, for us. Youre going to see what she has to say, people will be listening very closely and she knows very well that shes got time on this and she does take her time and she is careful about it so im very much looking forward to what shes going to say but i know a will the of women are out there, too. What else are you hear prg folks as theyve been blowing up your phone . Some of her supporters are actually in potentially the biden camp. I dont think its so clear that everyone thats been following her or that the expectation is simply to go with sanders. I think the expectation has always been for Elizabeth Warren to be thoughtful, to take her time and to really use her power, her leverage to move the country forward and bring her ideas forward. And so im not going to be surprised if she doesnt have an endorsement today. And mike memoli, that is exactly what you had been discussing or thinking about as well. Have you heard anything else from your sources over in the biden camp in the last couple minutes as weve been talking about this . No, but i think its instructive what we saw from the two campaigns yesterday in terms of the road map ahead. Bernie sanders came out sweng g swinging, hitting against biden. Biden came out yesterday saying the democrats need to keep their eye on the ball, that this is not a time to get bogged down into an intra party fight that would only benefit donald trump. You could see that as a message for michigan, mississippi, missouri but it could be a message for a primary of one, an Elizabeth Warren primary. Do you want to be part of a process to bringing the Party Together or that drags this nomination fight out . Mark, when is the next debate . Do we know . Its going to be on march 15th, hallie. A little different than we have so far . We are in a situation where and of course the criteria and qualifications havent come out yet but were in a situation where its joe biden versus Bernie Sanders. Thats a much different debate than the season where we all started where it was 20 candidates on two different nights. So a big shift and the winnowing has really ended in a oneonone race. And the winnowing keeps happening in the 10 00 eastern hour. We will see what happens tomorrow. I want to thank all of you, mike, shaq, amanda, mark, ali before them. Ill turn it over to my colleague craig melvin in new york on what is turning out to be another very busy morning on a lot of front here, craig. Indeed. And then there were two. Craig melvin on a very busy news day in new york city. We start with the breaking news in the 2020 president ial race. Democratic senator Elizabeth Warren suspending her campaign after finishing third in her own state on tuesday. Lets bring in nbcs ali vitali. What more can you atell us abou senator warrens decision . Has she told staffers yet in. Shes probably on a call with
