Moment. He earned that 43 seconds, Stephanie Ruhle. Thank you. I appreciate it. This morning the ground is of course settling after the super stunner with the political universe looking a lot different right now than 24 hours ago. The democratic primary a twoman race and we are watching the campaigns in many realtime now. Shifting their strategies on how to get to milwaukee. Joe biden waking up in california this morning. The former vp now for the first time the delegate leader. Our new reporting behind the scenes on how he plans to use the comeback of his career to lock in the nomination and what our sources are telling us on how Bernie Sanders plans to stop him. The senator is Still Holding a lead in super tuesdays biggest prize, california. With everybody looking to the next contest coming up fast, places like michigan, missouri, arizona, ohio, florida and for other candidates, right, super tuesday is turning into what now wednesday. You have Michael Bloomberg meeting with top advisers in new york deciding whether to stay in the race after a nearly billion dollar bust and nearly in from the our reporting team covering Elizabeth Warren, she is talking with her aides, assessing her path forward. What does that mean for her . Well talk about it in a couple of minutes. We have our nbc news team covering all of this from coast to coast. I want to start of course with our road warriors, shaq brewster, mike memoli in l. A. Where joe biden going to be this afternoon. Garrett haake in houston and Steve Kornacki is posted up at the big board. So mike, well get to the other candidates assessing their campaigns in a moment, but joe biden is feeling good about his campaign. Talk through what youre hearing from the sources as they gear up for potentially gathering more delegates in the next election next week. Well, hallie, the biden team was feeling good last night especially when there were the early calls in virginia and North Carolina. They were feeling great when we saw only of the surprise some of the surprise states come in, massachusetts, places that we werent expecting him to win. But the icing on the cake was the late call of texas. That had been a real focus of theirs. The biden team felt better about super tuesday than us in the media were expecting in terms of his performance, but the kind of result that we saw last night really has helped reenforce their theory of the case. Has helped to bolster the case that well start to hear more about in the days and weeks ahead. You heard him talk himself as the movement candidate, as the enthusiasm candidate. He didnt do just well with africanamerican voters but real strength in suburban areas and the turnout numbers are significant thats part of the argument from team biden. It wasnt Bernie Sanderss the bigger the turnout the bigger the victories for him, but showing that joe biden can really bring the entire Party Together and also appeal to swing voters that are going to be key in the general election so a preview of things to come from the biden side. So what about the Bernie Sanders side, shaq . They have to be a little surprised at how things shook out and where they are this morning. Well, publicly theyre pointing to california and its a race we havent called but as the votes continue to be counted and as the delegates are allocated, the biden lead will start to shrink. But privately no, without a doubt true. One source said theyre absolutely surprised particularly by some of the margins that you saw in states that they were frankly optimistic about. Im talking about states like North Carolina, massachusetts. Texas. This campaign set a clear marker going into super tuesday that they wanted to come out of super tuesday with the clear delegate lead and based on our nbc news projections theyre not going to have a delegate lead once this is is all said and done. What are you seeing today . Well, theyre ready to go on the attack. This morning, three new tv ads going up in those march 10th march 17th states and theyre using Vice President bidens own words on Social Security and citing obama, his praise of Bernie Sanders. Now is the time to make up for some lost ground and the advantage they didnt get on super tuesday. Hallie . Garrett, what about you, because texas ended up being as we have been stalking about here a place where Bernie Sanders thought hed do well. Where joe biden ended up doing very well. And people were waiting in lines for a very long time in all of it. Yeah. Thats right. Texas became the really the ground zero of the joe biden momentum. You saw it with the endorsementpalooza that happened in dallas. A lot of africanamerican voters there and you saw the ripple effects including in Harris County where i am. Something like 130,000 early votes were counted and joe biden had a 300vote lead. Hes going to end up winning this county by more like 30,000 votes. That all came from that same day votes. So good news for joe biden. Bad news for Harris County residents where the election was a bit of a muddle in a lot of the locations, not enough machines. Not enough poll workers. Folks were lined up for hours. Last night, i was talking to voters who had been waiting in line for 6, 6 1 2 hours to try to cast their ball lots and in Harris County, about 40 latino, 20 africanamerican. They ended up casting them pretty decisively for joe biden. It was the big, big counties in texas that put him over the top here. Garrett and shaq and mike, thanks to all of you. Steve kornacki, let me go to you and ask you a question. I think literally nobody thought wed be asking, 72 hours ago which is is there a way now given that delegate leaderboard that youre standing in front of, that joe biden could get enough delegates to take it outright . Yeah. Pledged delegates is 1,991. Thats what you have to get to and the brokered convention scenario thats got so much discussion, more than two candidates need to be gobbling up lots of delegates and what you see this is the running total from our decision desk of delegate allocation. There are more. There are a lot more dozens more, hundreds more from the states here. That are still going to be allocated. Biden number is going to keep going up and the sanders number is going to keep going up. Were not sure about the warren number or this bloomberg number. These have both come in so far less than their campaigns were hoping for. Far less in terms of delegates than expectations were. One of the key variables in california, little bit more than half of the vote is in. Look, right now, bloomberg and warren are under that statewide delegate threshold of 15 . Now, they could still collect some delegates here and there in congressional districts in california. But to get into the big statewide pool, 15 gets you there. Bloomberg is south of it. Warren is south of it and i think california the later you get, the more its the late vote. Right. That they start to count. That bodes well for bidens numbers moving up potentially. Again in texas, waiting on a few final votes. Look where bloomberg is sitting right now, right at this line. Lets see where that is when all of texas comes in. But look, warren missed a lot of thresholds there in the southeast. Bloomberg missed a lot of thresholds so theres the possibility just in terms of dltds delegates its not as widely districted as the thinking is. Its also thinking it becomes a twoway race between biden and sanders and at that point if the others are moved to the side a little bit, yeah, it can be in sight for him. What are you looking at most closely . Lets look a couple of things next week. A tale of two states a couple of states next week but let me show you two of them. Because michigan will get a ton of attention next week. Remember in 2016 michigan was probably Bernie Sanderss proudest victory. Won the big state of michigan. So look if sanders is able to win michigan in the again next week, probably going to be a tight race again. Meanwhile, on the same day, much smaller state, mississippi is going to vote and guess what the margin in 2016 was . 8316. Clinton beat sanders. And the thing were seeing in the results is the basic demographic formula that maid Hillary Clinton win mississippi by 67 points over Bernie Sanders its still in place. Overwhelming support for clinton, were seeing the overwhelming support in the south for joe biden. And so Bernie Sanders faces the prospect of another massive landslide loss in mississippi. If anything on that scale happened again, biden would probably net like 30 or so more delegates out of mississippi than sanders would. Meanwhile, if sanders won michigan, 125 delegates if he wins it by three points, sanders is netting ten delegates out of the state. Winning big in mississippi thats how you get ahead in the delegates. Florida is coming up later this month and the polling there has looked terrible for sanders. Opportunities here for joe biden based on the demographics were seeing to build out a delegate lead and if he does that, sanders has to find big states where he doesnt just win. He doesnt just win narrowly but where he wins big. The margins at that point. Steve kornacki, live at the big board on his 27th hour awake analyzing the election results. Thank you, i appreciate it. I want to bring in ali vitali who is with the Warren Campaign and we wanted to get you on. Because steve is talking about how this is shaping up to be a twoman race. Warren is technically still in it what you have reports about whats going on inside her campaign. Yeah. They wanted the field to winnow but now im being told by a warren aide theyre assessing their path forward. That shes meeting with her team this morning to talk about their path forward. And look, hallie, the Warren Campaign theory of the case for several weeks now has been lets just get to super tuesday and their strategy was pick up as many delegates as possible. Across the map. She had a home state on the board, right here in massachusetts, where with im standing. This is one of those states that went to the polls yesterday to vote in that primary. The warren team actually if you consider their strategy seemed willing to lose the narrative battle of her potentially losing in her home state. She didnt just lose here, but came in a distantd third. But they were willing to have it play out if they could pick up delegates in other places and show they can be competitive. Clearly making the strategy about going to the convention and making it clear. But of course now all of that up in the air. Thats why they im interrupting you because i have breaking news to share with you, as we talk about candidates exiting the race. We can report here at nbc news and msnbc that Mike Bloomberg is ending his president ial campaign. That is according to our own Josh Lederman who says the Campaign Spokesperson is now confirming that bloomberg is out of this race. It is not completely unexpected given bloombergs recent debate performances, his showings on super tuesday widely considered to be disappointing. I know josh is racing to a camera right now. Because this is significant in that it does Josh Lederman is here for us. Tell us what youre hearing from the campaign and tell us why this is so significant. Lets talk through this. So Mike Bloomberg is out of the president ial race. Thats according to his campaign spokesman, jason schecter. He took a latenight flight back from palm beach as the disappointing results were coming in for him. Were told by Campaign Aides that he warranted to meet with advisers hes data driven guy. At the end, they decided this was not something to proceed with. Even in the last few minutes as they were making this final decision, his campaign thanked them for their support, saying it would take a while for all of the delegate map to come in, but reaffirming that the top goal is to defeat President Trump. Whether thats him or whether thats another democratic nominee. Well, josh, he is in his new statement i know youre probably looking at it in the email as well. The one from the campaign that has come out in last couple of seconds. It appears hes throwing his weight behind joe biden now. I want to read this so that folks understand it. Well get it up on the screen as soon as we can. Mike bloomberg said i believe always believed that defeating donald trump starts with uniting behind the candidate with the best shot to do it. And bloomberg says quote after yesterdays vote, it is clear that candidate is my friend and a great american, joe biden. Bloomberg goes on to say he knows his decency and honestly and hell work to make him the next president of the united states. So josh, this again mike memoli is joining us now from the biden camp. Mike, boy, Amy Klobuchar, buttigieg, beto orourke, now Mike Bloomberg. A significant moment here for the former Vice President. Yeah. Hallie, i mean the biggest threat to bidens candidacy or at least one of them over the last few months that led to some of his stumbles out of the gate is the fact that Mike Bloomberg got into the case effectively arguing that joe biden couldnt cut it. That he couldnt win the nomination and defeat donald trump. I think they looked at the entrance differently. They had hoped when he got into the race he would help joe biden make the argument against the more liberal candidates in this race. Bernie sanders and Elizabeth Warren specifically. If he wants to be a super pac to help make the case against the liberals in this party they welcomed him. We saw him going on the air with a flood of Television Ads that made him look like he had been Barack ObamasVice President. That diminished joe bidens standing among with africanamerican voters which is so critical. And taking the incoming fire that biden had been taking months, bloomberg did not weather that well. So now, youre going to see i think team biden very quickly after being tough on him both behind the scenes and biden on the debate stage rally around Mike Bloomberg, embrace his support in the way that we have seen joe biden very quickly embrace his other rivals in a way that has been helped biden wants to help rally the Party Together as quickly as possible at this point. You saw those endorsement events with mayor Pete Buttigieg, with Amy Klobuchar, with beto orourke where biden was as much if not more praising of the candidates than they were of him. Thats sort of the road map Going Forward i think with Mike Bloomberg as well. Josh, remarkably quick campaign for Mike Bloomberg, right . He was in this race for a matter of weeks, spent a ton eye popping sum of money. We calculated it worked out to be about 11 million i think per delegate that he ended up getting. This is fast and furious and now over although bloomberg again is pledging to try to help joe biden with the nomination. Hes thanking the people he talked with, hes forever grateful to those who ended up supporting him. Thats right. Covering this campaign felt covering a full Year Campaign condensed into four weeks so because of how rapidly it moved. Even as the math was starting to become evident last night, Mike Bloombergs campaign spokesman, his manager and others were reiterating something that Stephanie Ruhle and i first broke a few weeks ago which is his commitment to Carry Forward this ground game and infrastructure that hes created in the favor of whoever the nominee is. So we expect Mike Bloomberg to keep Campaign Offices open, to keep this army hes built, field organizers as well as to spend heavily through independent expenditures on the airwaves and online, in support of whoever the nominee is. Of course Bernie Sanders has said he doesnt want Mike Bloombergs help. Wouldnt take it and Mike Bloomberg has said thats fine. If he doesnt want my help no reason for me to spend the money. Assuming its joe biden or someone else who is the nominee we should expect Mike Bloomberg to remain a dominant force in this election. Even if hes not going to be a candidate himself. Josh and mike, id ask you to stand by if you can next to your cameras for a second here because i want to bring you back to talk more about this along with some panelists but i want to get in first senator doug jones of alabama. He endorsed joe biden in the primary race. And senator thank you for being back on the show. I have to get your reaction to this breaking news thats developing in just the last four minutes here on this program which is Mike Bloomberg out. And backing the candidate that you also support. Well, its very exciting. I think it is just a continuation of how team biden is really making this race about all americans right now. If you look and see what happened last night, you know, when a candidate like joe biden can win both texas and alabama as well as massachusetts, that says an awful lot about his ability to bring people together from all walks of life, all races, all religions. I think Mike Bloomberg recognizes that. I have to give him credit especially in alabama. He not only raised his profile but raised the profile of very important issues that are important in states like alabama and others and so this is going to be just an extra boost of wind at joe bidens back. And bloomberg was just in selma over the weekend as well. He was. He was in selma. He has been around. Hes been up on the air a lot. Again, people forget everybody looks at this as just a pro Mike Bloomberg ad but what he was really doing was bringing home issues, issues that affect everybody in alabama. Kitchen table issues of health care and jobs and wages and those kind of things are what it got people talking about mayor mike. I think that that is just an important thing to remember. Its the issues that have now been elevated and those issues play perfectly for joe bidens campaign. So what im starting to hear from you, senator, is the start of what sounds like the bear hug, right . The Bloomberg Biden bear hug moving forward here. What is the best way then for team biden to essentially deploy bloombergs massive resources so to try to help him win and as the bloomberg as the Biden Campaign wants to do, take down Bernie Sanders . Well, i think right now, you know, Mike Bloomberg still has presence in any number of states that have yet to vote. I think florida is an important state. Mike bloomberg was in florida yesterday on super tuesday. Florida is an important state. Michigans an important state. All states are important right now. We have a ways to go in this and i think that those resources can best be utilized in the states yet to come. But we also have to remember theres a lot going to be a lot of downballot races thats the other thing that Mike Bloomberg was looking at when he talks about the candidate best positioned to win, hes talking about the candidate best positioned to help other downballot races in states like alabama and in texas. And across american. And clearly, i believe and have always believed so has joe biden. You talk about areas where bloomberg can help. Listen, one area where joe biden according to the exit polling struggled is with Younger Voters, right . Bloomberg is not necessarily going to help on that front. How much is that a concern for you moving forward . I dont think its a concern at all. We were talking about this just literally as i was coming in here to the studio. And at least in so many states, Younger Voters still dont get engaged that much in a primary election. I think that they as theyre seeing this election play out, theyre getting more and more interested. I think the fact of the matter is that joe is going to do incredibly well across all demographics. He doesnt always have to win the Younger Voters right now but he will win them in november. There is no question in my mind about that. Hes going to win them in november and thats why i think he has the best opportunity to take the Younger Voters and combine them with all of the voters like me and others across this country to win in november. When you talk about downballot races i cant help but think of your own race thats up here and what we saw overnight. Youre going up against somebody obviously come november. Do you have a preference, which of the two candidates would you prefer to go up against . You know, were seeing the ugly divisive primary that doesnt reflect who alabama is. On the one hand, you have Jeff Sessions who is really a divisive figure in alabama as well as the country. On the other hand, you have Tommy Tuberville, an extreme figure the way hes run his campaign. Divisiveness versus extremism, look were ready to run against anybody that they want to throw at us because we have basically done things for one alabama, for every person in this state, from one end of the state to the other. It doesnt matter which zip code they live in. So we are ready and were prepared. Okay. Senator doug jones, pivoting to the breaking news with us this morning. I know as youre getting plugged in and micd up all of this dropping so i appreciate yousup. Thank you. I want to bring in msnbcs Stephanie Ruhle in new york. I know you have been working the phones with your sources on team bloomberg. Can you give us any insight into the Decision Making process here . It seemed like the writing had to have been on the wall. Why today, why right now . Listen, the writing was definitely on the wall for last night. For everybody who said leading into yesterday mike needs to drop out he wasnt dropping in before yesterday. It was christmas eve, two nights ago. They needed to find out are they getting coal or presents. They ultimately got coal. This has been a humiliating last two weeks for mayor bloomberg, why . Because they built an Extraordinary Campaign pain and on the stage he failed. We havent seen him fail at something in 40 years since he got fired from solomon brother. Today when he saw the numbers, he said i cant see my path. From the campaigns perspective they think theyre still on track. His slogan, mike can get it done, they think think theyre going to. His number one goal is to get donald trump out of office. Mayor bloomberg thinks that trump is a threat to our democracy. But when mayor bloomberg entered the race we saw Bernie Sanders surging. We saw Elizabeth Warren surging. That was a moment in time in this election when joe biden was starting to flounder and mike has said over and over again he doesnt believe a democratic socialist message can defeat trump so with joe biden who has similar very similar platform is moving forward, mayor bloomberg will get behind him. One of the ways this could be massively helpful for biden is the digital platform. You have only seen bloomberg and Donald Trumps digital efforts being able to go head to head. This can super charge joe biden and i would say one other thing. Donald trumps argument that without donald trump the economy is going to fail, a socialist will tank the economy. That sort of flies out window. Yesterday, the Federal Reserve had an emergency rate cut and joe biden backed by excuse me, Michael Bloomberg theres no way you can push theyre democratic socialists. All of that sort of flies out the window and puts donald trump on the heels which is what the entire democratic frontrunners are trying to do. Stephanie ruhle live for us in new york, working her sources. The bloomberg said in the statement that a viable path simply does not exist for him. Youve got to wonder well go back to ali vitali on this in a minute, but where senator warren is. Josh, mike, steph, thank you for sticking with us in the breaking news coverage. Mike bloomberg out of the democratic primary backing joe biden which means, ali vitali, who covers the Warren Campaign, senator warren is now facing what is likely to be intense pressure Mike Bloomberg very explicitly acknowledging the math isnt working out for you. When you look at the very few delegates he ended up getting its not there. Why does the Warren Campaign this i its different for them . I think thats what were waiting to see. Last night when we were in detroit it was a state that wasnt even voting, they were looking ahead, that theyre in it for the long haul. At the same time, you havent heard much from this Campaign Even the people who regularly are out finding bright spots on these election nights are pretty quiet today. So i think when we hear that theyre reassessing, thats pretty notable. This is a campaign thats really disciplined. They know the impact of their words. On a day like today reassessing is a word that bloomberg is using i think theyre trying to figure out the next steps. I think whats ironic, this is the threeway race that Elizabeth Warrens campaign was saying that they wanted to have after super tuesday. They wanted it to come down to biden, sarpdzs and sanders and warren. Of course the way that super tuesday went for them the other night, last night doesnt exactly set them up for a strong play in that position. But i think we should talk about the role that Elizabeth Warren played in frankly taking Mike Bloomberg down. Some of the footage was old footage even from during his years as mayor and just and just after that. The first time that Many Americans had seen Mike Bloomberg was on the debate stage and we saw the way that that went. Elizabeth warren with her constant barrage of attacks, especially on things like those nondisclosure agreements and just generally about him being a billionaire buying his way into this race, the Warren Campaign never left up on Michael Bloomberg and frankly in reporting about something that Elizabeth Warrens been plagued by which is her frankly her problem with Bernie Sanders, someone who backs Bernie Sanders said to us that it cant be understated the role that Elizabeth Warren had in helping Bernie Sanders because she was able to focus on Michael Bloomberg on those debate stages. Those debate stages should have been Bernie Sanders front and center as the frontrunner taking all of the brunt of the attacks. Instead, he sort of split it with Michael Bloomberg and Michael Bloomberg probably got even more of those attacks than Bernie Sanders did. So Elizabeth Warren really played a very crucial role in the Michael Bloomberg narrative here and were seeing that play out today. I guess the one other point, Michael Bloomberg and several of my colleagues have said got into this race because he saw joe biden as weak. Look at how much the last 72 hours have changed for joe biden. So many of his former rivals are coalescing around him and he has an air of inevitability as the only person who can go up against Bernie Sanders. One thing that there was a lot of discussion around regarding Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar was that they timed their exits from the race in order to help joe biden in the best way they could which was to endorse him the night before super tuesday. Right . What is your were getting ahead of ourselves a bit, but if senator warren were to determine she did not have a path forward, what is your sense of when she might make that announcement . If she were to. These are the moments where i sort i wish i carried a crystal ball with me, but as you look forward they have events on the schedule for friday. So they do have a few days that they already built into their calendar. She was supposed to be here in cambridge so this was part of the scheduled plan over the course of the last few weeks. You know how the Campaign Schedules come together. They come together a week or so before they actually happen. This was always where she was supposed to be today. Regardless of what happened last night. Of course now it takes on a sort of reassessing wednesday vibe instead of her taking a down day after super tuesday. But they have events on the schedule for friday. And they build in a few days between super tuesday and then. I think to see what the results really were going to be. Stay close to the camera for us. Thanks, my friend. I want to bring in emmy ruiz on Kamala Harriss campaign and worked on the 2016 clinton campaign. And Farren Johnson he served under president obamas reelection. So to both of you, the departure of Mike Bloomberg from this race, tell me what your biggest takeaway is what this means for you moving forward . Well, the biggest takeaway is that this is a great day for the Biden Campaign. I was one that woke up this morning thinking that the Bloomberg Team was going to reassess, they were going to look at a pathway forward in the remaining states but i think that the writing was definitely on the wall last night. That the Bloomberg Team got together and as many of your reports have said theyre very data driven, it wasnt a viable pathway. Lets give a really big shoutout to former Vice President joe biden for just sticking in there. I mean, there were weeks that went by that we were really concerned about his ability to really have a strategy Going Forward after winning South Carolina. I mean, congressman clyburns endorsement was huge, but you saw that he utilized the media, he brought together some of his former competitors and they all endorsed him and he had a lot of momentum gong into the states particularly the Southern States. The south has something to say because they voted for him overwhelmi overwhelmingly. Now that Mike Bloomberg said hes going to suspend his campaign hes going to look at gun safety, health care and Climate Change and trying to build minority businesses and black wealth in this country. The Biden Campaign now has got to be thinking about how do we utilize this tremendous amount of support that hell bring and keep in mind, hes got offices set up, Staff Members hired in states that are coming up that the Biden Campaign can capitalize off of. So very big kudos for throwing his support behind joe biden. You have been through this cycle with your former boss and senator harris, looking about when to get out of the race, how to get out of the race and talk about what must be going on behind the scenes with the Bloomberg Team and what you think might be going on behind the scenes with the Warren Campaign as well. Yeah, you know, i mean this is a really tough decision to make but it ultimately comes down to winning. Is there a pathway to winning, to you have the infrastructure available and i commend Mike Bloomberg who made the decision to put our country, to put it together, to continue working toward getting donald trump out of the white house and endorsing Vice President biden. I think thats something thats running through the minds of all the candidate in. What is my path forward . What does it look like . Where do i need to readjust and what happens next. Team trump, as you know i cover the white house for my day job over at nbc news appears to be delighting in this as our team is reporting. Right . You have the president s family members tweeting about this. Mike bloomberg getting out. You have the president himself doing a bit of online trolling about Elizabeth Warren shes playing the part of spoiler. I cant you and the president agree on much but do you think the president the pundit in chief if you will he has a point that Elizabeth Warren staying in the race can complicate matters for the candidates left . I dont. I dont agree with President Trump on anything, youre right. I think senator warren has done an incredible job building this campaign. There is a lot of energy. Theres still a lot of support for her and so i think were going to see that and continue to play out. You know, theres still more than 30 states that have not voted and so i think if senator warren decides to stay in this race, i think the candidates will welcome that. And i think its really, really important that we let it play out on its own. And the thing about donald trump hes trying to sow discord. We have to take that at face value. You make a really good point. Listen, two weeks ago who would have thought that wed be having this conversation, right . Its a race thats changed quickly and often and a lot over the last maybe month or so and so i take your point on that. One of the things that helped drive joe biden to the decisive super tuesday state and you want to focus on the delegates here and where he is in the delegate count rather unexpectedly, it was the black voters and the women, the south that helped him get to victory. If you look at the numbers, what does it say to you about him building a coalition moving forward . Well, many of my africanamerican friends and family members, you know, we were refer to him as uncle joe thats a sense of endearment. I had the pleasure of working beside him in 2012 when he was campaigning in Southern States like North Carolina and florida and he would go into those states and people would just love to like hear his message and he would always be kind of late because he would spend so much time campaigning. So we know him. We trust him. And that showed. But more importantly, the black voters in South Carolina again i want to highlight that, they not only show that other black voters needed to vote for joe biden. They also showed a lot of democratic white voters, democratic hispanic voters, asian voters that this was the person that they believe should go on to beat donald trump and so many democratic voters know how pivotal the role of the africanamerican vote is to democratic candidates, so it was something that i think that he will carry on and you will start to see more and more africanamerican leaders start leaving other campaigns and really throwing their support behind Vice President joe biden because they trust him, they know him. And more importantly, hes been speaking directly to us about issues that matter. And so again, you know, i agree with my colleague that Mike Bloomberg getting out of the race was the honorable thing to do but joe biden definitely has the momentum Going Forward. Thanks to the both of you for being with us this morning. I appreciate it. We want to catch up too with team sanders and see where that campaign is at so stick with us. Were following of course the other major headline of the day from here in washington. Thats dr. Fauci back on capitol hill. Thats not him. Thats the hearing hes at though. He breaks down what you need to know. Sunday at 10 00 p. M. Here on msnbc. We want to get back to the breaking news from the 2020 campaign trail and Michael Bloomberg dropping out and endorsing joe biden becoming the third democratic president ial candidate to back the former vp in just the last 48 hours. During the commercial break we have this to share with you. A new email from Elizabeth Warrens campaign from the Campaign Manager to staffers. Nbc news has our hands on it here. In it the Campaign Manager said that the team is quote disappointed in last nights results. Says theyre currently asseting the path forward and warren is going to take time right now to think through the right way to continue this fight. That is interesting, shaquille brewster, in burlington, vermont. He covers Bernie Sanders but thats not a statement that is saying that Elizabeth Warren is in this for the long haul, but hey, were stepping back, thinking about it. Tea leaves we have been talking about how based on the delegate count this is shaping up to be a two man race between Bernie Sanders and joe biden. I have to imagine, shaq, i want to hear what your sources are telling you, that Bernie Sanders team is going to spin this or frame this as is this the fight they wanted and thought theyd get all along. Thats right, hallie. One note on that Elizabeth Warren news, the one thing that youre hearing from the Sanders Campaign is that they are not pressuring theyre not trying to put any public pressure on Elizabeth Warren. They say they respect Elizabeth Warren. They respect her campaign. And they dont want to have anything to do with any decision that she has to make. Thats something of course we have been asking and something theyre making very clear. On the issue of mayor bloomberg, im sure theres a lot of happiness about mayor bloomberg dropping out of the race. They havent responded officially. I have called and texted and we havent had an official response yet, but bloomberg provided Bernie Sanders a foil. It was someone who he naturally was able to go up against in a way thats more natural than the attacks against joe biden. He was able to go after bloomberg to say he was buying the election, saying he was going against him on stop and frisk and he helped to deflect some of the attention that sanders got on the debate stage as other candidates put their fire on mayor bloomberg. So he got a little bit of an assist from bloomberg. But he also had a clear foil there on stage with mayor bloomberg. One thing from his team you kept hearing especially in the runup to super tuesday, there was genuine concern about the resources that mayor bloomberg had. His campaign knew that this is a candidate that had unlimited amount of resources and if there was a situation where mayor bloomberg would come out of super tuesday with the delegate advantage or a lead in a way that would make Vice President biden look weaker, there was genuine uncertainty on how theyd handle mayor bloomberg. There was a concern and thats something a name that you always heard when we asked his Campaign Manager, deputy Campaign Manager they would bring up the fact that mayor bloomberg was an xfactor. Im sure theyre looking at this now with some relief but also theyre very clear eyed. Squarely focused on Vice President biden. That is reflected in the ads that youre seeing that they put up and the ads that theyll be playing in the states to come. March 10th and 17th. Hallie . Shaq brewster, thank you for that. Because were getting news by the minute, i want to share with you this. Our sources are just confirming to nbc newss Andrea Mitchell that joe biden and Michael Bloomberg did talk this morning. No word on what they said. Well give you more when we get it. Josh lederman has new reporting on the more on the runup to super tuesday. The Campaign Manager telling us he expected Michael Bloomberg would be viable in every single one of the states that was in play on super tuesday. Internal polling reached thousands across the country and gave them a lot of insight into what was happening with the electorate. Their polling showed a lot the voters around the country were making up their minds at the very last minute. When they saw that people were not locked into people they supported weeks ago when bloomberg was doing better in the polls, before that disastrous debate performance, when they saw a lot of this was coming down to the very last days that before votes were cast, they knew that the path for Michael Bloomberg was likely to narrow. Interesting to me that the president is finally not finally, weve been at this since 40 minutes ago, im told by my sources that the president in a way enjoys antagonizing Michael Bloomberg. Thats obvious from his twitter feed. The president predicting its not going to work if Michael Bloomberg throws money into joe bidens campaign. This take out somebody who would have been a thorn in trumps side and Michael Bloomberg gives his full backing to joe biden at this point. Thats right. And President Trump has never been particularly choi oy as wh sees as his rivals. They do see sanders as the easiest one to defeat come november. We see the president clearly having a little bit of fun with this. That does not mean that Michael Bloomberg is not going to spend a whole lot of money to defeat the president. Im sure the biden team will be happy to accept that. If you get anything new, hop back to a camera, you know that well take you. Lets talk about somebody who is still in the race and that is Jeff Sessions this is interesting in the frame of what were talking about. Joe biden, Bernie Sanders concerned about down ballot races on the democratic side. De hey there Kelly Clarkson whatre you doing on our sofa . Whatre you doing on your sofa . Try wayfair. So for the first time this morning we are hearing directly from former Vice President joe biden about that surprise endorsement from Michael Bloomberg, asberg dro bloomberg out of race. He says this race is bigger than candidates and bigger than politics. Its about defeating donald trump and with your help were going to do it. That is the first reaction that Michael Bloomberg is out of the race, throwing his support and his money and his organization and his volunteers and staffers on the the ground behind joe biden now in the runup to the convention and potentially the general leelection. You got President Trump ready to face off against one of these democrats, whether it be possibly biden or maybe Bernie Sanders and very possibly, although looking less likely senator Elizabeth Warren. He is now talking about for the first time not just about Michael Bloomberg and Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, but hes also talking about his former attorney general Jeff Sessions, that race in alabama. Overnight sessions came up short to outright take back the seat that he held for a couple decades and set to face the former auburn football case in a runoff saying sessions didnt have the wisdom or courage to stair down mueller. Anyone can say they are for the trump agenda, but talk is cheap. But i have fought on the great issues of our day and won. Trymaine lee is in birmingham, alabama. We had doug jones on our show who didnt say which of these men he wants to face, which of these cant. Thats right, hallie. All eyes are focused on the bloomberg breaking news and top of the ticket but folks here in alabama are definitely concerned about the down ballot race, sessions holding that seat for over 20 years, losing it once hes appointed attorney general and now he wants to go after that seat again. But folks say Jeff Sessions and Tommy Tuberville have been fighting over who is closest to donald trump. Meanwhile, donald trump has gone on at attack. Our colleagues are reporting that people close to the president have been trying to hold him back from the attacks until after the primary. Now its all hands on deck and i think we can expect more attacks from donald trump. We are out of time on what has been a rock n roll hour of breaking news. The race shifting yet again as we are watching in realtime. Craig melvin, turn it over to you, my friend. Thanks to you for picking it up and thanks to our viewers for watching. What a day its turning out to be. What a 24 hours its turned out to be. Craig melvin, msnbc headquarters in new york city. We start with another shakeup in the democratic race for president , former new york city mayor Michael Bloomberg is out. He has thrown his support behind joe biden, a source telling me a few moments ago that the two men spoke by phone this morning after a poor showing in super tuesday states, bloomberg releasing a Statement Last hour with the reason for his departure and that reason is joe biden. Bloomberg saying in part ive always believed that defeating donald trump starts with union ooti uniting behind the candidate with the best shot to do it. Lets dive into it. Josh letterman has been covering the bloomberg campaign, Stephanie Ruhle at one point worked for the bloomberg folks there, also covering the campaign very closely and were also joi
