Anger for some of them, democrats especially is growing. One frustrated lawmaker in particular is joining us live as the number of new cases also ticks up. Everyone is still insisting this shouldnt be politicized. Even as the president s right hand man seems to dive into the thinking this morning saying the media is now covering coronavirus because they think it will bring down the president. But were focused on nervous south koreans. Lined up for hours at a Department Store to try to get their hands on face masks. A stark illustration of whats gripping the global community. By the way, do the face masks help . We have key questions about the coronavirus from our medical expert. And ron klain will be here, who served as president obamas ebola czar. Lets start with the coronavirus and wall street. We have a lot of developments this morning. First of all, a Northern California woman is on a ventilator. She didnt travel to china, she had no known exposure to anybody with the virus in the first place. You have got the World Health Organization saying that the coronavirus has spread to 50 countries with nigeria and new zealand the latest. Were following new reporting on a complaint from a whistleblower who claims some federal workers didnt have proper protective gear. Dominic chu from cnbc is with us. Hans nichols at the white house and jo lin kent. After the wild ride 24 hours ago it seems like were in it for and so are the markets again this morning. Whats going on . I thought it would abate just a bit. It was this time yesterday that you and i were talking about the massive move lower in stocks only to see a rebound in the midday and sell off aggressively into the closing bell. Down almost 1,200 points. That by the way has brought the week to date period of a 4,000 point drop for the Dow Jones Industrial average. This represents the fastest that the s p 500 large cap stock has fallen by 10 or more in its reported history. It only took six days to get to that level of contraction in the markets. The reason why it is now important is because globally the effects of the coronavirus are being felt not just in the economics but in the markets as well. Global stock markets in first six days of the selloff have lost around 6 trillion worth of value, 4 trillion is just in the United States alone. Now, the issue will be whether or not there could be anything done to stem that particular market onslaught. Hallie, what were looking for right now is whether there are any developments now or over the weekend with regards to a slowdown in cases not just in china but elsewhere as well and whether or not well see headlines about those who recovered from the virus. But if youre looking for a Silver Lining we were talk about the notion that people shouldnt be worried about the 401 k . But one thing thats happened in the last couple of weeks is that Mortgage Rates have now hit near historic lows. If youre a home buyer you might have gotten some assistance in the coronavirus in the form of lower interest rates. That is something to keep an eye on. And down more than 1,000 points. Thank you for bringing some perspective to us, dom chu. I want to talk to bill neely, hundreds of cases in italy. But talk about to us globally about what the World Health Organization is saying and officially being called a pandemic here. Yeah. The grimmest warning yet saying that all countries should expect that the virus will hit them. It names three, italy, south korea and iran as being at a decisive point. It says no country should make the fatal mistake of assuming that it will be spared. And that is borne out by the evidence over the last 24 hours. A dozen countries reporting the first case, so maybe more than 50 countries this has spread to. Britain getting the first death, a man who was on that cruise ship the diamond princess, cases doubling in france. Iran. The biggest number of deaths outside of china, 34. China just about the only bright spot with cases falling there. More than at any other time since january. Hallie, nowhere illustrates the spread more than italy. Remember, this country has the most cases, the most deaths in the western world. 17 deaths, 650 cases. Travelers from italy have actually spread this virus now to well, the ends of the earth to brazil, to nigeria. The two most populist countries in south america and africa. So the spread is stepping just like the financial reverses that were seeing a day after day on wall street. And across global markets, one footnote that i think is interesting. Amazon has just said that its removed 1 million products from its website that were said to or claimed to protect against the virus or even to cure it. It seems that amid this pandemic there are some for whom profit matters most. Hallie . Which is disturning in a lot of ways. Bill neely in italy. Many of the lawmakers are walking out as the white house gets ready for an update on the resources to fight coronavirus. Hans nichol, im going to talk with my sources this morning, yes, the Vice President s office is stream lining the messaging, trying to get a message and put it through the vps office there. And theres talk about politicizing this with republicans and the white house saying hey democrats shouldnt politicize this, but then Mick Mulvaney makes some comments that raises a lot of eyebrows. Look, theres tensions and this should be above and beyond an out and outside of politics and then mulvaneys comments where he seems to be blaming the press tying this into the impeachment inquiry. Calling it all a hoax. The press was covering their hoax of the day because they thought it would bring down the president. The reason youre that youre seeing so much attention to it today is that this is what brings down the president. Heres what well see today. Fact check. Fact check on that one, hans. Thats not why the press is not covering the coronavirus. I wanted to make sure thats clear. Theyre covering it because its of great interest to people and to markets and to the white house. This is a story that everyone is focussed on and the white house acknowledges that. They have a briefing at 2 00. Theyll have senior officials coming out and trying to talk about responses, reactions. Maybe more on the new rates and then in just moments youll have larry kudlow the director of the National Economic council talk on Live Television to a rival network on their business channel, talking about the administrations response. It was tuesday that they had this contained but all but airtight and the markets continued to nose dive. So well see to what extent the markets will be reacting to kudlow in realtime in a little bit. Theres also this whistleblower complaint, hans. And a spokesperson that i talked to over at the hhs did not dispute this complaint. Didnt confirm the comments either that the Washington Post broke. Bring us up to speed on why its significant. It shows the level of preparation that you had throughout the government and the core of the whistleblower complaint according to the Washington Post is that officials went into the quarantined areas without proper training and protective gear and what hhs saying is they take all whistleblower complaints seriously. But this is the challenge for any administration on dealing with a Global Health crisis. Theres always the mechanics of the response, how you get people out there. How you message and you have a single strategic message. Then the actual substance of what youre doing. At least on the substance front theres deep concern from republicans and democrats on capitol hill on how they plan to fight this, how they plan to spend for it and what the overall strategy is. So there are a lot of different places that well be looking to for news today. Not the least of which is capitol hill. As they voice their concern with how this is all happening. Well speak with a lawmaker who is in the briefing whose district is in california where the woman who we know is in seriously ill condition is working to recover from coronavirus. Also in california is nbcs joe lin kent. Youre in long beach, its quiet because of cancelled imports from china. Talk to us about that. What the impact can be. Were here at the port of long beach where its eerily quiet. If thats one picture to show you, if youre a consumer its right behind me. Look at that port right there. Here at long beach it is empty. I just spoke with the executive director of long beach ports here and he says it is empty precisely because of coronavirus and the cancellations coming from china. In fact, cancellations are double what they usually are. Heres what he just told me. The impact has been significant. I mean, the port here, this is ground zero for treatment. I mean, our imports, exports, overwhelming which china. When theres a disruption there its an impact here. What this means for the port is loss of volume and what it means for a consumer is your products might not be on the shelf. What it means for the community is people arent going to work. The Big Box Stores that will be most affected, walmart and target. You may see perhaps in this continues empty shelves or out of stock issues here. I want to show you one more vision across here. This is the rest of the port of l. A. And across the way, the blue cranes thats the port of los angeles. You have two of the most important places where consumers are going to first get the goods not only are shoppers going to be affected here. Were talking about port workers and the coast guard working fulltime to stopping the coronavirus from coming in. And it is a quiet and eerie quiet scene here, hallie. Thanks to all of you. Theres an Economic Impact and if schools do in fact move forward with closing as some Top White House officials are predicting could happen. I want to bring in to give us a reality check, dr. Natalie azar. Glad to have you with us. Theres so much confusion and so much misinformation about the coronavirus. We wanted to get you to do the context check with us. Those i heard from outside of work, should by ordering face masks, should i be spending all the money going on amazon and wearing the masks around. Does that help . No, the surgical masks that people are wearing do very little if nothing to filter in the small viral particles have. And the n95 respirators have to be specially fitted and theres always a concern of a looming shortage of these. Again, for the general population, no need to wear any mask to prevent infection. If you are sick or having symptoms or taking care of somebody who is sick, you can wear one. How long does the virus last on the surface, for example . So the big answer to that is a big question mark because we really dont know exactly. But can we extrapolate from other coronaviruses and the answer is yes. Believe it or not they can survive on hard surface for even up to a week. But we dont know if theyre still virulent after that time or they die with certain temperatures. So according to experts really importantly, hallie, thats not the primary way that these viruss are transmitted. Aka touching a surface and then touching your face. The primary way is through respiratory secretions, coughing and sneezing an getting into your system from somebody else who is infectioned. People can cough and sneeze without the coronavirus. You may not show the symptoms right away. When does that start to happen . Were still seeing the incubation period is 2 to 14 days. From the time youre exposed until you start to have symptoms from a hospital in wuhan the three early symptoms were fever, dry cough and fatigue followed by shortness of breath. Those are the big ones very similar to respiratory illnesses. Really indistinguishable from influenza lets say. Lets say you traveled to italy lets say. You are worried i kind of dont feel good, i have a low grade fever. What do you do . The chances you have coronavirus are very, very tiny i would imagine. But i think people hear it and the hypochondriacs will go whats going on . Well, the cdc has revised the recommendations in terms of testing for coronavirus. Thats significant. Whats that . Thats significant. Incredibly significant. This is the recommendation. If you have mild what we call lower respiratory tract symptoms, fever, shortness of breath and you have had contact with someone with coronavirus you should be tested. The second level up, you have disease, fever, cough, shortness of breath requiring hospitalization and you have travelled from any of the five places, iran, italy, japan, china or south korea, you should be tested. Finally if youre so sick severely sick in the hospital but without any endeem yoliccal risk, you should be tested. Thank you so much for being with us. I appreciate it. Were talking about the campaign trail. 2020 democrats out making their closing arguments right before that closely watched South Carolina primary. We are out with the candidates live after the break. I was personally very concerned about the issue of testing. Cdc sat on this issue for more than two months. At the moment we are not getting enough information from the administration. Question number one what assurances did you have the proper protocols were being followed during the quarantine it was not a satisfactory answer. New reaction from capitol hill as lawmakers head out of the closed door briefing on coronavirus. Democratic congressman garamendi was in the room. The newly diagnosed woman out of california is her constituent. Doctors dont know where she got sick, no travel to china or known exposure. How is she doing right now . Have you been in contact with her doctors, her family, anybody around her . I do not have an update on her situation. Although we know it to be very serious and our hearts and prayers go out to the family. She was caught up in a very gross mistakably the center for Disease Control that really didnt get into the control part of their job. They let this thing go. They didnt move quickly knowing that the entire country of china was shut down, that there was an absolute fact that this illness was going to spread beyond china. Yet, the center for Disease Control failed to take immediate aggressive action to get ahead of this. Now its other communities around the nation. The question to us today, so where are we today . Do we have testing facilities, are we able to gear up . Is the money available to support all of these . Most of those an answers are its in process. Did you get satisfactory answers to the questions . Well, with regard to the whistleblower, well, from southern california, there was no breach of protocol. I asked about travis, well, well get back to you later and later will be this afternoon. When well meet with them. Obviously, it was not successful at Travis Air Force base. What part of those protocols of selfprotection by the workers, we dont know. But we do know that it is in the community surrounding Travis Air Force base. Now, with regard to let me pause you there for one second because i want to bring people up to speed. Youre talking about the whistleblower complaint as reported be the Washington Post. Allems that hhs alleges that hhs staff did not have proper protective gear or proper training and obviously the patient we are talking about your constituent is in the broader area. I want to be very clear, do you believe, do you suspect that theres a link to the actions that this whistleblower has alleged and the patient in your Community Whos contracted coronavirus . The answer will inevitably be yes. How else did this illness get into the community . Most likely, high probability, it came from the patients, the evacuees that were brought to Travis Air Force base that were served by local community workers, bringing the food, working with the people. Thats a high probability. We have a meeting this afternoon to get into that. Theres the next step and that is how then do we deal with the reality that the community infected . That requires Public Health services. Track it down, make sure people know whats going on and make sure that theres Testing Available. Heres where the cdc really fell down on its fundamental task of making sure that test kits were available. To this day, test kits are not readily available throughout the United States and late last night the cdc finally after weeks of asking by the state of california to open up their laboratories the cdc said you can go ahead. Thats two months too late. Here we go with Community Spread. I youre very i think its coming through the screen youre angry, youre obviously visibly emotional about this. I want to ask you about the concerns you raised in the room. I cover the white house and the Vice President s job is handling all of the messaging. I understand that dr. Fauci was at your briefing. He was saying he felt like he was not allowed to speak freely, that there are concerns i think more broadly that the white house was trying to clamp down on people talking about experts talking about coronavirus. Did dr. Fauci address that . Do you share those concerns . Can you talk about that . Well, in so far as i can repeat what he said i was not muzzled. However, i was to go on the sunday talk shows five of them. The Vice President s office then took over the control of this situation. And told me to stand down. Not to do those shows. Now, you can draw your own conclusions whether he was muzzled or not but clearly he was scheduled to do sunday talk shows and he was not to proceed with that. When you look at the discussion around coronavirus as it exists in the politics sphere, donald trump jr. Was on this morning and suggested that democrats are taking a pandemic seemingly hoping and i quote, it comes here to kill millions of people so it can end the president s winning. I want to give you a chance to respond to that comment. He shouldnt be near me when he says that. Why not . There would be a serious altercation thats totally outrageous. I can assure you theres not a democrat or republican in congress that wants anybody to be sick. What we are concerned about is the administrations response to this illness. Ment we have known since december that there was an epidemic in china and we have known since that time there were americans exposed to this and we know there was a princess cruise ship with high exposure and cases in japan. Those people who were brought back to the United States frankly with very little planning. And very little preparation. And no Testing Available in the United States to see whether they had the virus or not. Those are known facts. We also suspect that there was inadequate safeguards for the personnel that were serving these evacuees at the air bases. Well continue to investigate that. We know theres Community Spread in my district. I know theres an individual thats very sick. Don jr. Better not get close to me. It would not be a healthy situation. Congressman john garamendi, thank you. I hope you give us an update later on this afternoon. Thank you for your time. We are following all of these threads in that interview we just had with congressman garamendi on coronavirus and also the 2020 campaign of course because we are at a critical moment there. You have joe biden and Bernie Sanders about to speak to supporters in South Carolina. The candidates are hoping to land new punches on the rivals. To wit, watch. One of the reasons i resent bernie though is he wanted to primary barack in 2012. He said he should be primaried. Joe is not going to bring new people into the political process when people know that he voted for the war in iraq. Road warriors out in South Carolina. Covering this from all all angles mike memoli, Garrett Haake and ali vitali is in greenville and Elizabeth Warren has new reporting on a big tv ad buy. Mike, let me kick it off with you. Yeah, hallie, you heard the strong words from joe biden talking last night about Bernie Sanders saying he resents him for discussing a primary challenge to barack obama in 2012. That really speaks to i think their dual imperatives for joe biden. Hes collegial to a fault when he talks about the fellow democrats but sending a strong message especially either the Vice President himself or the introductory speakers are that he has Barack Obamas back in the white house and that Bernie Sanders does not that speaks to the africanamerican vote not only here in South Carolina but a number of the super tuesday states to come. He wants a big win here in South Carolina as the candidate who has the strongest base of support with africanamericans because he also wants to make the message this that hes the best democrat to unite the party against Bernie Sanders at a time when so many are unable to do. Now its Bernie Sanders really very much in joe bidens cross hairs. For more on the Sanders Campaign lets go to Garrett Haake. Hey, mike. Sanders has been targeting biden as well. Saying that joe bidens not the candidate who can turn out the kind of voters and then the number of voters that democrats are going to need if theyre going to beat donald trump. Sanders has been talking about mostly about the president. He said he still beats trump in head to Head National polls. A poll from pennsylvania where he was the only one to win and essentially trying to do something in South Carolina that i would characterize as a fighting retreat. He is still campaigning here. He has one or two more events still to go in South Carolina. But hes also campaigning in North Carolina yesterday. Virginia. By tonight hell be in massachusetts on Elizabeth Warrens home turf trying to work ahead in the super tuesday and its interesting hes there. His campaign has put out a fundraising email to give them to keep one the up with the air war with Elizabeth Warrens new super pact. Now to ali vitali down in greenville. Yeah, garrett, a few hours north from you up here in South Carolina where Elizabeth Warren will hop over to texas. Continuing to look forward to super tuesday. But i think the striking thing about Elizabeth Warren over the course of the last few weeks is the way that we have seen her transition from playing this game of politics by the rules that her campaign initially wrote for themselves to now playing this game of politics by the rules as theyre traditionally written. I mean that in the way she started to go after her opponents with a lot more vigor than we have seen before and shes no longer disavowing super pac help. A persist pac started to pop up ads in nevada, now South Carolina. But overnight i learned they have a new 9 million ad buy across super tuesday states specifically california, massachusetts and texas. Thats on top of a 3 million buy that they announced earlier this week, that one encompassed eight states. Elizabeth warren went from having no outside help to having more than 12 million in help on the airwaves. Its notable that this pac son the air in massachusetts. You mentioned thats place that Bernie Sanders is going. Its also a place that Bernie Sanders is giving Elizabeth Warren a little bit of a run for it in her home state so the persist pac is getting up on the airwaves with a bit of a defense of the massachusetts senator. I think the interesting thing here on the debate stage this week, the attacks were flying. But notably nobody brought up this reversal from Elizabeth Warren. First who said she didnt want outside help and now not disavowing it now that its come away. This is not the first person to make this reversal when money got tight. We saw joe biden do it and other candidates have had the reversal before and most have outside groups helping them. So not necessarily a clean form of attack as which head into super tuesday where en needs both ground game and airwaves. Hallie, back to you. Thanks. I want to go back quick to mike memoli because you have new information on a key endorsement for joe biden. Thats right. Well see joe biden heading on sunday to virginia and we just are reporting now that tim kaine, the senator from virginia and of course the democratic nominee for Vice President to succeed joe biden in 2016 tim kaine is going to be endorsing joe biden. Thats the Democratic Party rallying around joe biden. A big boost for him heading into the super tuesday. All right. This goes to show, road warriors are working their phones even as others are talking on tv during their live shots. Thank you, see you throughout the day. I want to bring in the contributor, a black lives matter activist and fresh off of a flight back from South Carolina. Thanks for being with us. Thank you. Lets talk about joe biden. Senator kane is set to endorse him in virginia. But you have to get through South Carolina. What is the number that youre looking at that joe biden needs to win by, because its no longer a matter of win or lose. It seems for him and the stakes hes put on this. What are you looking at the margins for him in South Carolina . I really think that the gap between him and the second place person needs to be in the double digits. Thats the only way to run away from this primary, first in the south and actually be able to claim a solid victory that will take him into super tuesday. But when i was talking to voters especially the black voters theyre reminding us theyre not a monolith. Theyre talking about joe biden but theyre also talking about Bernie Sanders. Elizabeth warren. We saw that the route today went to the agendas for black america. For all of the candidates. Tulsi gabbard came in eighth. Bernie sanders was number four. And joe biden was just behind Elizabeth Warren. It will be interesting to see how some of the things play out and i think it really will have to be a sizable lead for joe biden for him to claim the kind of victory he needs to move forward in the super tuesday. Theres a new abc news ipsos poll and interestingly it has Bernie Sanders at 34 . Joe biden in second at 25 . And i wonder when you talk to voters electability is top of their mind. Does this sink with what you heard on the ground . You know its real live interesting, its a mixed bag. There are folks who want to make sure that we beat trump but also have a vision for the long term and really think about the america that we want to move into in the future. Im hearing that in particular from a lot of people who identify as progressive, but im also hearing from people that theyre worried about the potential effect of Bernie Sanders not only on downballot races but also in South Carolina. When we look at the challenge of Lindsey Graham not just donald trump is beaten, but that graham is taken out as well and Jamie Harrison an africanamerican democrat who has deep roots in that state is having quite frankly a positively surprising run. Hes been able to defy expectations for fundraising nearly every quarter and people are worried about a Bernie Sanders at the top of the ticket and what that do to that race in particular in that state. On that note, the New York Times has reporting on where former president obama stands on this. As mr. Sanders, as he gains steam, mr. Obama said hed support any of the candidates but the task of rallying around sanders is difficult. It kind of sounds line hes trying to walk a fine line here. Hes certainly trying to walk a fine line. He has been clear about that the entire time and the truth of the matter its a bit of a six and a half one dozen of another. We know that thereby might be trouble bringing sanders supporters back in if theres a differe different nominee. An ad has been airing in South Carolina and other places that has been incorrectly and falsifying one of the things to say that he was dissing joe biden. It was interesting to see that was the place where he was going to weigh in heavily and staying out for most of it. Do you think senator sanders can recreate the coalition that president obama created . I think its possible but what has to happen on the ground in the organizing, people have to have a mind shift. If people are going to feel invited into the coalition then people have been to doing the inviting. Instead of the kind of divisive tactics that we have seen from some of his supporters. Great to have you on the show. Talking all things South Carolina as we get ready for a busy 24 hours down south. The impact has spread to a very high at a global level. You can see their tweet they sent out right there. Speaking of ebola, ron klain led that during president obamas second term. Hes a consiltant for the Biden Campaign we should note. Thanks. Theres a lot to talk about there. Mulvaney saying we should not be at freakout levels. Is he right . I think the chief of staff is saying this is a political conspiracy or political attack on the administration, there are 3,000 people dead around the planet. More than 80,000 cases. Probably thats an undercount its coming here. The white house shouldnt be launching mr. It cal attacks. They should be getting the country ready. I think thats the question. What are they really doing to increase preparations, to get those test kits out to get testing labs ready. To get the hospitals ready. The sources i have talked to around the administration say, listen, the messaging is get controlled through the Vice President s office. Thats not unusual that one office would try to funnel information. But theres a concern about the Health Officials feeling a they were muzzled. Dr. Fauci told garamendi hes feeling muzzled and that seems does that hold water to you, maybe the Vice President wants to put that messaging forward . No. I mean why not . I think we need to hear from people who know the facts. The first month i was white house ebola coordinator i was in there 18 hours a day making sure we were getting theal systems ready to test people and making sure we were getting our own Health Care System ready. Dr. Fauci is the nations leading Infectious Disease expert and the most effective communicator. The American People want to hear from him not in a politician. We heard from the president of the United States and the stock market fell 1,200 points and people freaked out. We need to hear from people who know what theyre talking about not politics. And the president talked about when he thinks this will end. Watch. It will disappear, one day, it will be like a miracle it will disappear and from our shores it could get worse before it gets better. Maybe goes away. Nobody really knows. A miracle is not going to stop coronavirus. Science, medicine, a well organized response will stop coronavirus. And, you know, i mean, when i hear the president say that that only adds to my level of concern but whether or not the white house is doing its knitting its not spinning the virus, but stopping the virus. That means working with our Global Partners to see whats happening on it means getting information. We have a lot of evidence that the president trying to happy talk the virus away, try not trying to stop it. We know that the task force i would meeting with the task force for the six weeks but where are the testing kits . There are many parts of the country where theres no capacity to test for the virus. Korea tested 500,000 people, weve tested in the hundreds. Go to your local hospital, ask if they have beds ready. In the president to tgot up said youre knife coronavirus czar, what are you doing . Its going to start to spread here. We need to make sure our Health Care System is ready to test, to isolate and treat. That needs to happen fast. That whistleblower complaint from hhs laealleges there were workers interacting with patients with not the right protective gear and not the right training. A congressman was the first to draw a link between the case in california and the whistleblower link. I dont think we net have the evidence to know the case in california is tied to that. We should be careful about drawing conclusions but i think the information from the whistleblower complaint shows the kind of chaos and confusion in the response were seeing. Thats why we need strong coordination at the white house. We need a plan and ambassadorct that plan and thats what we need now. Coming up, back to the 2020 trail. Can you maybe troll somebody . One Candidates Campaign today looks like it. T when i started seeing things, i didnt know what was happening. So i kept it in. He started believing things that werent true. I knew something was wrong. But i didnt say a word. During the course of their disease around 50 of people with parkinsons may experience hallucinations or delusions. South carolinas having a primary tomorrow, if you havent heard. But republicans who want to vote for a republican are kind of out of luck. State Party Leaders cancelled the gop primary altogether. Remember . In 1984 it was an effort to bat down long shot primary challenges to President Trump and cement his allbutcertain renomination. Even though some republicans dissented and said this wasnt okay, a judge disagreed and gave it a green light. The state is flooded with a whole lot of blue right now. Not wanting had is spotlight stolen, the president is heading to the palmetto state later on. We have tremendous popularity in South Carolina. Some people said im trolling the democrats. Maybe i am. Monica alba is in North Carolina ahead of the president s rally. I dont know if you can maybe half troll or if its a full troll but whatever it is, the president is doing it. This is a committed troll. We saw it in iowa, new hampshire, nevada and now here in north charleston, well see it tonight. Im told the president saw how much of the local media they were able to dominate and he said i want to do it again, lets go for a fourth time, lets do it in North Carolina, the night before the primary open and some activists on the ground are encouraging registered republicans to vote for Bernie Sanders. Thats something they can do because it is an open primary but the campaign in the state party has distanced themselves from that. But tomorrow i think were going to see some of those folks coming out to vote for him. There is no gop contest but the president will be touting his record here in South Carolina, a state he won in 2016. I think we can expect him to be talking about his general election opponent. He likes to handicap and talk about the different ones, youll see him probably talking about that debate this week and i think youre also going to hear him talk about coronavirus. They said they did tune into the president s News Conference this week and pointed to some of the stats about the flu and thats where they said most of their concern is right now. I think were going to talk to a couple more folks here to hear him talk about that as its going to be on his mind as he heads to the palmetto state. We want to get back to wall street, another check of the markets about 90 minutes into the last trading day of the month and a very rough week. The dow down 785 points. Since monday the dow has been down more than 4,000. Ali velshi is with us. Percentagewise not as bad as years past but numberswise, this is still dramatic. Theres four numbers, three times this week weve had four numbers with the negative sign. Thats kind of incredible. Percentagewise, the good news is we blew by so many things in the last few days that the next record that we would have to blow by is a long way from this. So look at that. Look at this week. This is this week alone. It has been very hard for me to recall days like this. Were right now at about the seventh or eighth largest point drop. I kind of want people to put that out of their mind. Percentages are what matter here and were not anywhere near the top ten percentage drops. For the week were off 12, 13 . The worst week of the financial crisis which ended october 10, 2008, we were off 18. 5 . The good news to me is were way off that record and the good news to me im im touching a lot of wood around here were not near that. Were seeing high volume but through the course of the day you see the market going up and down, which means its struggling and there are still buyers. People saying this, too, will end and are buying into this market. I would caution people to look at history, look at long charts off on the market, look at what happened after 9 11 when all of those losses came back in 30 days and remember things are more resilient than they seems. Its not to say its not serious bu it but its not actually panic selling, its heavy selling because of controversy. Thanks for all of you watching this hour. Im headed over to the white house, ayman mohyeldin, but ill see you over there. Let us know if you hear anything from the white house. Theres always some news coming out of there. Hello, everyone. Its a very busy day at msnbc headquarters in new york. We are watching a growing number of cases, growing fear and a growing response to the coronavirus. 2020 democrats make their final push in South Carolina, less than 24 hours away from polls opening. These are live pictures from joe biden and Bernie Sanders, both Holding Events in South Carolina. These are the candidates who are on the ground there right now. But while their attention is on South Carolina, today most of them are ready to bolt heading to super tuesday states starting tomorrow. We start with our road warriors across South Carolina.
