Surprise that i received the news that President Trump has canceled his state visit to denmark on the 2nd and 3rd of september. Ive been looking forward to the visit. Our preparations were well under way. Shes not wrong about that, Liberty Mutual customizes your Car Insurance, hmm. Exactly. Peter. They had been planning for the president to leave in less than so you only pay for what you need. A couple of weeks. Nice. But, uh. What is the reaction over at the whats up with your. Partner . White house on this . Well, youre exactly right. Not again. Limu thats your reflection. First of all, the white house will hear from the president only pay for what you need. Within the next hour or so as he liberty, liberty, liberty, liberty prepares to head out of town. Likely to speak to reporters there. Back then, we checked. Zero times a day. It is describing. Times change. Eyes havent. You heard the more diplomatic thats why theres ocuvite. Answer there. Screen light. Speaking to Foreign Ministers sunlight. Longer hours. And other lawmakers in denmark eyes today are stressed right now. But ocuvite has vital nutrients. Much more fierce. That help protect them. Ocuvite. Eye nutrition for today. Their theory has been remarkable saying this was undiplomatic. It was insulting. We put up on the screen courtesy the first survivor of alzis out there. Ase and the Alzheimers Association is going to make it happen. Of Phillip Rucker whose danish is obviously much better than mine. He said, among other things, but we wont get there without you. They are saying it is an insult. Join the fight with the Alzheimers Association. The president was a spoiled child. Lacks even basis diplomatic skills. Trump lives on another planet. This has been in the works for weeks. It even caught off the American Ambassador to denmark. She said they were looking forward to the president s trip. Heres what she is doing to try to clean it up this morning. A tweet a short time ago. She writes that the country here it is. The president values and respects denmark and looks forward to a visit in the future to discuss the many important issues in our strong bilateral relationship. Great friends and allies like the u. S. And denmark should be able to discuss all issues openly and candidly. Hal i there, the big takeaway, as you will remember, 48 hours ago, the president said this was not number one on the burner for him. Something he thought about strategically for the u. S. But it wasnt an urgent issue. Then he said it was the basis for his trip and thats effectively why he was canceling it here. No indication when this could be ive done very well with that made up. Community. But recognize this partnership, some of my biggest supporters this friendship, this alliance are of that community. Goes back years. And i just got a big endorsement from the log cabin group. Yeah. The danes served along the u. S. And afghanistan, at least so that was President Trump 43d anes losing their lights just there highlighting a new endorsement for his reelection fighting alongside the u. S. There. From the log cabin republicans. Hallie . Peter, thanks. See you over there in a little bit. National lbgtq organization, an organization that, by the way, with this new reaction from denmark, we want to to go to did not back his 2016. This endorsement is not coming cope epnhage without controversy. It triggered one of the board copenhagen, former ambassador members to resign and telling under president obama. The Washington Post there is no world where i can sit down at thank you for joining us on the the dining room table and show. Thanks, hallie. Explain to my children that i its great to be with you. Just endorsed donald trump for your reaction to what you had heard and seen the last 24 president. This morning here on this network, we are questioning the integrity of the organization. Hours. Truthfully, i think the last watch. Really couple of weeks of by going in a kind of fallen in for this endorsement, they American Foreign policy with relation in relation to this have become another political whole situation has been very, committee that is following very sad, honestly. Along behind donald trump, so i got on a plane in boston to trying to whether they think it will somehow get them fly to copenhagen and saw the influence or a greater voice in the administration, i dont wall street journal headline where trump mentioned he wanted know. But theyve lost their independence and, in my opinion, to buy greenland. I shook my head. Their integrity and credibility couldnt believe it was real. It was confirmed a few days as a result of that. Later. With me now from the log the request in and of itself to me is ridiculous for a number of cabin republican. Charles, thanks for being on the reasons. But really the insulting nature show. Thank you. With which he canceled this visit. And it is important to know this your response to jennifer. Jennifer is a friend. Wasnt a simple bilateral visit. We served on the board together. This was a state visit. Right an american president had not jennifer comes from a place of kindness and i believe that she visited denmark in their has the best intentions for the organization. But our organization is a official capacity with the grassroots group. Invitation from the queen since we have chapters, over 50 in 1997 with bill clinton. You can imagine how much over 31 different states. Preparation goes into that and how much preparation both on the our chapter has almost danish and the american side unanimously voted to endorse that it already happened. The visit is less than two weeks donald trump for the reelect and wanted to do it early. Away. Then he has the gall to say he President Trump and Ronald Reagan share the same tenets. Is canceling his trip because, in essence, he thinks the trip while we dont agree with President Trump on every issue and were not in total lockstep, should have been contingent on the fact that the danes were we do believe when presented the choice, donald trump has been an overall benefit for the lgbtq willing to negotiate for part of their kingdom. And that is just, just, just not community and has followed through on his promises to how you treat good allies. As peter said, danes fought and mitigate some of the cultural wars we experienced in the 2000s. Lets talk about that. Died alongside americans in war you lay out some reasons, your after war after war. This diplomatic relationship goes back hundreds of years. Group does, of why you endorsed and President Trump has spread and i had the great to stop the spread of hiv aids. Responsibility to ask the danish deposit to send troops into those are the specific measures. Harms way. And frankly this is just not how others are more general, tax you treat good allies. Cuts, helping families, et so given the relationship cetera. By endorsing President Trump that youre talking about and youre endorsing a number of given what we have heard other policies. Again, just the last 45 minutes the Labor Department last week proposing a rule that would make or so from the danish prime it easier for government minister when seemed to be contractors to discrimination taking a very diplomatic tone. Against lgbtq employees, she was very careful not to transgender workers not express outright anger at protected by civil rights laws. President trump. What happens with this are you endorsing u. S. Embassy relationship from here . How does this affect the a lines at this point . Do you think in six months the shouldnt fly the pride flag. President might reschedule his the list goes on. Trip and this all gets brushed you can see the headlines there. Under the rug . How are you comfortable with that . Well, listen, firstly, i do well, some of those some of those issues are just either think we are going to have to when this chapter, when this not true or taken out of context in a way that doesnt fully Trump Administration cap ter of American History is over, there show context aside will be a lot of cleanup today. I was i will start by saying that. Wait a second. That being said, we have had advocates are concerned that this administration has done diplomatic relations with much more to roll back protection for lgbtq americans denmark since 1804. We survived world wars. Than he has to protect them. We can certainly survive donald i understand youre making i was standing in front of trump. That is true. The relationship between nato the Berlin Embassy three weeks allies. Ago with a pride flag raised. Im talking about the these are controversies that relationship that the United States has with nato allies is dont exist. These are things the left wing powerful. Is using to force a wedge its strong. And it can outlast any one between the Lgbtq Community and the republican party. Our endorsement is providing a president of the United States. Ill tell you, we will have a little work to do when this bloc on that false narrative the chapter of American History is democrats continue to over. Promulgate, which is if you are ambassador rufus gifford. Gay, have you to be a republican because republicans dont like thanks again for being on the you. That is not true. Show. Appreciate it. The president s flipflop on and let me put it donald trump has a history his denmark trip is one of and is philanthropic and his several white house waffles, business background of being including another one. The president softening his supportive of lgbtq, and since stance on stronger background checks. That put him in the crosshairs of one of his key 2020 rivals. Being president has he was the first president elected that the president did talk on the phone with wayne la pierre in supports marriage equality. Were not at 100 . The last 24 hours, prompting i dont think anybody would be this response from joe bidens campaign. They say donald trump has been bought by the nra. 100 other than themselves. We take issue and step forward his doublespeak on one of the and issued press releases and most important issues we face as talked about times when we dont a nation is exactly why we need necessarily agree with the president or administration on new leadership in the white policy issues. House. But when it comes time to it comes after the president initially after the shootings in actually looking at the texas and ohio said we would need to consider more meaningful differences and the qualitative impacts on the average lgbt background checks as congressman person in this country, donald state cohen knows the President Trump has been a net positive. Just over the last 48 hours or more dollars in the pocket, a so has seemed to soften that robust Foreign Policy protecting position. Us from having jobs offshore, congressman, thanks for being back on the show. More investment in small good to be with you. Businesses that is letting lgbt given what you have heard from the president publicly, do businesses flourish. These are all things that impact you see any kind of opening for the vast majority of gays and movement on stronger background checks at all . Lesbians in this country positively. Shouldnt the bar be higher . Once again, the bar is none whatsoever until january higher. Donald trump is the first person of 2021. Is that disappointing to you . Extremely disappointing. Elected president to support marriage equality. There is a platform issue thats why log cabin republicans 90 percent of the american has such an important voice in this because we can go to the public is in favor of the rnc and we can go to the background checks and the red flag laws, 80, 85 . Convention in charlotte next year knowing we have a strong relation with President Trump, it is just disappointing because he supports equality issues and we can take that to try to we have a real this is a real advance some of these things to crisis we have in our country. Get the rest of the party up to it is not on the southern speed with it, and an agenda border. It is not guatemala, el salvador part of a necessary victory and honduras. Your organization came under it is a crisis in america where fire from former members, those schoolchildren and people who go who used to be log cabin to church and people who go to movies and walmart are being members. One woman wrote on facebook what killed by crazy people with high is left behind is a sad remnant that increasingly fulfills the capacity magazines and assault weapons who dont need to have guns. When i say crazy, crazy because stereotype that used to be slung at log cabin republicans, theyre going out and killing people. But they are not necessarily mentally ill like the president talks about on the front end overwhelming where they can be taken and have overwhelmingly to protect them their weapons taken away from from the discrimination they so them on the front end. Often receive. Are you doing enough to protect specifically transgender we need to do something about the weapons. Americans gwynn what this sorry. President and administration has there is a bit of delay on the done to roll back those sflectionz. Feed here. You say youre disappointed in there are a lot of different Interest Groups that represent the president and his position, the Lgbtq Community in but are you surprised by it . No. Three people that really matter. Washington, d. C. And throughout the country. These organizations have given the three men that have a great up their rights their role influence over the president , and responsibility to advocate wayne la pierre, Franklin Graham on behalf of the Lgbtq Community and our issues because they decided to be partisan democrats and vlad peer putin. Instead of advocates first. Whatever those three guys want, they get. Gun reform is going to be there was an open door in the white house when President Trump something that will be taken up was first when he was first sworn in with a lot of different in september at least by some members of the house. Departments to engage and think i know you said your judiciary differently because donald trump has rewritten the playbook on committee is coming back early the typical republican candidate from recess to talk about this. And the republican race. These organizations who are supposed to be advocating on i wonder about the challenge of getting all democrats on board. I want to play something for behalf of children, advocating you. Your colleague from p. A. Who is on behalf of transgender, a democrat in a more instead of engaging they decided conservative district. Watch. To resist, close that door and. I would like to know why you not have any communication because theyll be partisan democrats before support putting militarystyle its something you feel assault weapons in the hands of civilians. Passionately about. I think the most important Jennifer Horn said some of those thing we can do based on our experience and based on the fact exist in the organization. More resignations could come. That it enjoys wide bipartisan if there are any more support and is a Strong Majority resignations, are there any american position is to pass a circumstances in dh you would reconsider the decision you made . Universal background check bill. Our chapter has almost it seems that alone unanimously voted to reendorse illustrates the challenge it President Trump. Will be to get democrats in were most likely not going to be reconsidering that endorsement. Thank you for being on the swinging district on board in show. Lots of news happening this morning as we take a live look some of your districts, no . At more pictures from hong kong. Protesters we showed you earlier assault weapons, we dont in a subway station there. Have that kind of down the line support. We do have the down the line it is nearly 11 00 p. M. Support on background checks, on overseas. Well have another report inside red flag laws, both federal and that station and update on conditions er report inside that station and update on conditions state and on high capacity the only one to combine a safe sleep aid magazines. And the 12hour painrelieving strength of aleve that dares to last into the morning. So you feel refreshed. Aleve pm. Theres a better choice. There is great consensus among democrats. Something else the president said with the leader of romania yesterday. He accused Jewish Voters who support democrats of, in his words, great disloyalty. That has not sat well with some of yours in congress and several jewish Advocacy Groups. What are your remarks . I was stunned when i heard them. Im jewish. Im a very patriotic american. And the idea that i would be dishroeu by being a democrat is just something that you hear really from mussolini or something from germany in the 30s. That you have to be a member of their party. If youre not a member of their party, then you are disloyal to your country. Thats not what america is about or skwraoufp people are about. Most are democrats because Democratic Values and juice are compatible about caring for others, once having been in bondage and enslaved in egypt is and having regard for all people and trying to save people and protect them from slavery and respecting peoples freedoms and opportunities. Most jews are in favor of a womens right to choice, a democratic position and for other sane positions i think on gun control. It is unbelievable to even take this position. But i thought about it. And i thought the guy is so similar that he might even know saying jews are disloyal is a trope of antisemitism. He may be that clueless. It is sad that he is that clueless with his words and his thoughts. He is almost childlike. Sometimes i think of him i think so, every day, of him as jersey kaczynski and we put our latest technology being there. And unrivaled network to work. The United StatesPostal Service makes more. Ecommerce deliveries to homes well leave it there. Thank you. We have been talking about about than anyone else in the country. The mixed messaging on ava right of issues whether it comes from denmark, whether its about his concerns about, for example, where he stands on gun background checks. That extends to tax cuts. A way of pushing off concerns about a global concession. Check it out. You can see the opening bell there. The dow is up 230 points in the first hour of trading. But the president is paying attention. He is going after members of the media saying reporters are trying to create a recession. He attacked his fed chair as well. A new poll finds half of all people who support President Trump would blame him if the u. S. Were to slide into a recession. 69 of all voters would blame ecommerce deliveries to homes at comcast, we didnt build the nations largest gigspeed network just to make businesses run faster. Him too. We built it to help them go beyond. Senior analyst and commentator, because beyond risk. Welcome to the neighborhood, guys. Ron, let me play something for there is reward. You something the president said beyond work and life. About the word recession. Who else could he be . I think the word recession is there is the moment. Beyond technology. A word that is inappropriate. It is just a word that the there is human ingenuity. Every day, comcast business is helping businesses certain people. Im going to be kind. Go beyond the expected, to do the extraordinary. Certain people in the media are trying to build up because they would love to see a recession. Take your business beyond. We are very few from a recession. We are very far from a recession, he says. Is he right . We dont know. Indicators, hallie, that suggest a recession could occur with, lets say, 4 to 9 months. Lets head back to hong kong at that subway station. Janice, what are you seeing . Theres a bond Market Indicator that has been reliable since reporter let me set the 1967 that is showing the risk of scene for you. A recession is rising. This is the one exit. It is not a foregone conclusion. Protesters have put vending machines, garbage cans at the we see the risks increasing top of the staircase. Theyre spraying water down there, trying to prevent police largely because of the trade war with china, which has weakened from coming in. Theyve also blocked off that Manufacturing Activity around exit over there and theyre apparently going to work on the the globe. Next one about two meters down. Nine Major Economies that are at the way things are going, its or near recession. Those include germany, italy, unlikely to end quietly, hallie. China has slowed considerably. Well check back in with you a whole host of countries throughout the morning. Slowing down. That does it for us. Manufacturing is contracting this busy hour of msnbc live. Around the world. Almost so in the United States. Right now craig melvin picks it up in new york. Craig melvin here, msnbc consumer can confidence has headquarters, new york city. Messy and confusing, thats fallen. We have seen a falloff and other flashing signals in the United States. How a Trump Administration official describes what the White House Position may look like now that the president is retreating on background checks. It is not a word that is inappropriate. The nra may be why. It may be premature. We dont know. Ill talk about what happens now with the ground swell of. The president tweeted again, momentum behind gun reform with where is the Federal Reserve . Two of the parkland shooting this is something he has been doing for weeks now. Survivors now at the forefront of the movement. Placing the blame on his also a hard sell. Handpicked fed chair, powell. A team of female trump loyalists does the fed have responsibility to take certain action, or do spreading out in key states looking to woo suburbans you think they have done enough, ron . 24th rolled back the quarter specifically but with a low point at the end of last year. Approval rating, their job only cut rates a quarter point most recently. Going to get harder. Pushing the limits. It is likely jay powell will be the latest move by speaking in jackson hole, wyoming. The belief there is they are taking out insurance rate cuts at this point. We are seeing signs of Global Economic weakness. They may want to inoculate the u. S. Economy from any weakness that could be coming here. I have said this on msnbc and cnbc in the past. I also believe if you are going to lay responsibility at the feet of someone for a slowdown in the domestic and global economy, it would be the president s trade war and the uncertainty over whether or not he will impose tariffs on european and japanese autos. The fed may cut rates. The fed is not to plame for the slowdown. We have seen more weakness in manufacturing than consumer activity. One of the reasons the market is up, they have reported better than expected earnings at target and lowes. It doesnt mean a risk of recession is still not in front of us. Ron, thank you for your expert and expertise here on the show. Appreciate it. Thank you. A lot more news to get to. Some developed in the last 40 minutes or so. The Trump Administration rolling out a new plan for families crossing the southern border with children. What this now means for migrant families in detention centers. A live report next. Plus, a republican lbgtq groups, backs President Trump. We will hear about the decision that pushed her to resign and a leader in the group responds. Er and now for their service to the community, we present limu emu doug with this key to the city. [ applause ] its an honor to tell you that Liberty Mutual customizes your Car Insurance so you only pay for what you need. And now we need to get back to work. [ applause and band playing ] only pay for what you need. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Lets see, aleve is than tylenol extra strength. And last longer with fewer pills. So why am i still thinking about this . Ill take aleve. Aleve. Proven better on pain. You just within the last few minutes, the Trump Administration is rolling out a new rule that lets migrant families remain longer. I. C. E. Will now be allowed to hold parents and children who cross the border together in federal can custody until the court case is decided. Heres the thing, though. It may be in defiance of a court ruling. The flores settlement limited the detention of kids to less than 20 days. It is a settlement first discussed in 1997. Acting secretary of Homeland SecurityKevin Mcaleenan just called the Current Crisis part of that. Watch. Applied for the first time the requirements of the flores settlement to accompany minors generally forced them to release families into the country after just 20 days. And incentivizing illegale entr, often delaying immigration proceedings for many years. Joining me now nbc news julia ainslie. You have been recording on this, i know. Talk through what this new rule means sort of on the ground and where this goes from here. Reporter so, hallie, the flores agreement, as you pointed out, did affect how children could be held only 20 days. Now the administration wants to get around that by saying, look, if we decide the facilities are good enough by our own standards, we should be able to hold them longer. Even though they had to be state licensed, not i. C. E. Licensed. This is the workaround. They want to be able to hold families really indefinitely. When will the children be released . Only when their family has gone through the full court process. Whether theyre deported or granted asylum. Only then would they be released. There is no definite deadline when you have to release a child from these facilities. I will say the limits on this, though, there arent enough beds to hold all the families that are coming across. Right. There are only about 3,000 beds for families. We have seen 400,000 family members cross the border this fiscal year. They say this could affect 5 to 10 of those crossing. When they finally does come out, it is supposed to be 60 days after friday. We are expecting lots of court challenges. So it could be that we never actually see what this is when its implemented. But it is the first cannon being fired in the fight to try to undo this court agreement. Julia ainslie live for us in washington, thank you for staying on top of the story. We will be hearing more throughout the day. Reporter thanks stkphraof. T we are out on the 2020 campaign trail. We have a live report how the candidates plan to win back the block that shifted support to the president and how that shifted the fight between two top frontrunners. Between two top frontrunners. And last longer with fewer pills. So why am i still thinking about this . Ill take aleve. Aleve. Proven better on pain. Since my dvt blood clot i was thinking. Could there be another around the corner . Or could it turn out differently . I wanted to help protect myself. My doctor recommended eliquis. Eliquis is proven to treat and help prevent another dvt or pe blood clot. Almost 98 percent of patients on eliquis didnt experience another. And eliquis has significantly less major bleeding than the standard treatment. Eliquis is fda approved and has both. Dont stop eliquis unless your doctor tells you to. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. If you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily. And it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. Whats around the corner could be surprising. Ask your doctor about eliquis. The business of road trips. Adventure. And reconnecting. Modernized comfort inns and suites have been refreshed because our business is you. So, maybe ill win saved by zero you are taking a live look right now out of iowa on the left side of your screen where a Union Convention is just getting started. Pretty much all the democrats running for president will be there today. They are out making their pitch to more than 100,000 union voters, many of whom jumped the ship to vote for President Trump in the last president ial election. Garrett haque is out there. Matt gorman, thank you all for being here. Garrett, to you, my friend. What is the expectation for what you hear today . It is sort of an interesting battle between somebody who is very popular with union folks, joe biden, and somebody who is right on his heels, Elizabeth Warren. Reporter yeah, thats right, hallie. Apologies for using my golf announcer voice, as we are getting under way. Those are the two candidates im watching my closely here, joe biden and Elizabeth Warren. They have gone strong receptions in the past. Biden with them on policy and culturally speaks the language from these union events. Been part of the movement for a long time, Elizabeth Warren is plugged in there. Collective bargaining rights, rolling back righttowork laws. Iowa, 100,000 union voters here. They are had he important not just as voters but activists and organizers. Every person represents a larger group and the ability to go back and talk to their friends, colleagues, coworkers and getting organized behind the candidates. You are seeing so many candidates make the pilgrimage for the chance to give essential there a 10minute speech. You are talking to the meat and potatoes. It not just just get you a voter but an activist on your behalf. That is why this is so important to them valuable indeed. Fair, you have a future as an announcer at the golf channel. Bas basil, Hillary Clinton took the union vote by more than 16 Percentage Points in 2016. They under ts performed becopera who won four years earlier. A lot of union share shifted towards President Trump. Point is, this is no longer a slam dunk for democrats, right . Reporter thats exactly right. They need to focus on three important areas. One is membership. As garrett pointed out, collective bargaining rights, at least in two dozen states, have been prohibited or greatly restricted. Take michigan alone. A righttowork state in 2012. They lost 130,000 members and 20 million in revenue in that period of time. And the janis decision. Focus on automation. 20 million jobs worldwide by 2035 will be lost to automation. And health care. One thing that is concerning to a lot of the Union Members is a lot of the arguments and debates over health care. A lot of them in collective bargaining gave up salary for Better Health care. So they will be really nervous about the democratic proposals. Not to say that they need to be, but i think they need to hear from democrats about how they are going to protect their health care. If we focus on those three issues, we can start to get back some of those workerss support. Basil, interesting point on that third piece, the health care piece. Some have expressed concern about medicare for all reflecting the push pull with some who support the party of where they have gone too far left or not far left enough. Many in the unions have done pretty good extracting concessions of management at health care. Private insurance, if thats eliminated that hurts them in a lot of respects. Joe biden and john delaney have used to to attack further folks left. Basil makes a very good point on janis. One thing they have not done a good job, draw a Straight Line between voting and judges. Also with car check in past years, do they make the argument that judges matter . Voting for a democratic president , they can roll back some of these union restrictions. Talk about joe biden a bit. He has the support of a big union, International Association of firefighters. He is popular with that voting bloc. Do you expect other big unions to get behind him or the enthusiasm garrett talked about like Elizabeth Warren could give a little trouble there . Reporter i think garrett mentioned this in his reporting, on some of the cultural issues and where joe biden is just stronger in parts of the country, i think he has a very good shot of getting, if not the lions share, a substantial amount of support from union workers. Plus, just his being in government for the decades he has been, he has cultivated a lot of these relationships. Going back to some of the points he was making earlier on the health care issue, thats where candidates like Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and others may need to explain themselves and talk a little bit more about how it is going to affect organized labor to get on board. It may not be automatic. It may take time. It is still possible. Joe biden is in the best position to get a good chunk of their support. Garrett, basil, matt, thank you for being on with us. A busy day ahead. Straight ahead on this show, now a republican lgbtq Advocacy Group is endorsing his reelection. Breaking news developing right now. Look at these live pictures it of hong kong. You are looking live at a shot at a subway station in hong kong. Nbcs janis in the fray there. Can you tell us what you are seeing and what sparked reignition of tensions reporter well, it started as a peaceful protest earlier. It was quiet up until an hour ago. The riot police arrived. There are bus loads of them out there. They started battling their batons against their shields. That sent people here into a frenzy. They had barriers. They have been tipping tech et machines, fire extinguishers. In order to prepare for what they believe is the riot police getting in here. They have come into the stations, the riot police will still launch tear gas. People are wildly expecting that is going to be the police reaction. Its a contrast to what we saw a few days ago, hallie. Over the weekend there was the sense that both sides had to step back from the violence at the airport. The protests at the weekend were peaceful. Now the mood here has shifted. The protesters have spray painted the security cameras so that they cant be identified. Theyre getting ready for the police to come in and inevitably break this up. I know this is all developing as we are speaking. This escalated, just as you pointed out, in the last few minutes. Have you heard anything from officials as far as how they plan to handle this tonight . I know it is 10 40 p. M. Where you are. Reporter well, the protest was slated to end 20 minutes from now. Again, hallie, it changed about an hour ago. People here are preparing a defensive or an offensive, depending on what side youre looking at. They have also tried to put some of the vending machines to block the ramp that comes into this mtr station. There will probably be hundreds of riot police outside. This has been a contentious place. People were here protesting marking one month since protests here when local nationalists, chinese nationalists came and took on vigilante violence. So people here were marking that onemonth anniversary. It was remarkable because just a couple of hours ago they held a moment of silence. There were hundreds, maybe thousands of people packed into the station here. You could hear a pin drop. In wow reporter it was absolutely silent. And now it has progressed to this. And the subway station, is it open . Are they closed . Reporter normally the mtr is open into the wee hours of the morning. Members of the public were going through a couple of hours ago. Obviously people arent theres no one i have seen in the last hour or so that that appears that are not involved with this protest effort. Now the protesters over there are trying to peel some of the metal try to figure out any way that the police might be coming in here. Lets have a look. They can mask what they are doing so they cant be identified. So so they cant be seen by police and identified as far as who they are, right . Reporter yeah. So they cant be identified. Because there are so many security cameras in here. Janis, i want to explain. You have been taken go ahead. Reporter so now they have the barriers. They have also lowered the security gate at this exit over here. Trying to prevent police from coming in and also preventing people from being able to get out. Again, janis, no indication why this escalated so quickly from a peaceful protest just hours ago, within the last couple of hours she talked about, to this . We dont know what sparked the intensity of emotion here . Reporter there is an intensity to this. But i didnt see it over the weekend. And there was this sense that both sides the protests had grown proviolent. A lot of protesters were apologizing after because they thought it wasnt indicative of the movement. This sense that they wanted to return to the purposes that had defined it when it first started back in june when we saw that support, the 1 and 2 Million People coming into the streets. Thats why sundays rally was such an important test. It would be seen as some sort of barometer from where the public stood here. Right reporter even though it was pouring rain, even though there was a police ban in effect, the scope of the turnout, the fact that it was a crowd gave a lift to the protest movement to show that they did continue to have this broadbased support. Thank you. This i would say is unexpected. Pause it was great pride a couple of minutes ago. Now it seems to return to some of the tactics that we believe both sides were trying to get away from. We are looking, just so you know, janis, at our screens here. You are on the right side. On the left is a live shot of the protesters here. We have seen them. They have their faces covered. Some have umbrellas, as you point out. We have not seen many police officers. Is there a Police Presence down there, janis, that you have seen . Reporter not inside yet. This is what people are preparing for. I have seen the police outside. From here i can see the buses. What they are trying to do, they are sealing off the entrances or exits because they are expecting the police to come in through the far end. The last time that the police came in to a metro station in order to stop the protests they did use tear gas inside. The people here are expecting that the police will use those tactics. Im going to let you and your cameraman and your team down there get your bearings and take a look. I want to let viewers know who may be uncomfortable, we take a lot of safety precautions and they have been trained to handle a situation like this. Lots of developments we are going to watch there. Were also watching more developments here at home on this show. More from the white house as President Trump gets ready to head out to louisville in just a matter of 40 minutes or so. Well talk about that. And a Republican Group that supports lbgtq issues announcing its endorsement of the president. One member of that group joins me next to talk about why a board member has just stepped down. T stepped down and last longer with fewer pills. So why am i still thinking about this . Ill take aleve. Aleve. Proven better on pain. Trust us. Us kids are ready to take things into our own hands. Dont think so . Hold my pouch
