He can make a difference in florida. But what about other states he carried in 2016 . And is his stamp of approval a Golden Ticket these day sns morgan radmannford and steve foerngy are here with why retired states struggle. We have a team stet up and ready to go. We want to start with the white house. Up President Trump this around heads to pittsburgh to pay speculates to the 11 victims of the synagogue shooting massacre. At the same time he is also starting to shift attention to the midterms just 7 days out about to go on a it final blitz. 11 campaign stops, nine states, six tais. In this final week the president is putting immigration front and center in his closing arguments. Nbc hans nichols is its a split screen moment. The president getting ready to grieve with the families along with the first lady and his family. But at the same time making big headlines with a hard line stance on immigration with a political gam bit. Its a strategy, hallie. The president wanted to make it the closing argument. Today was supposed to be the day of the major immigration speech. Instead he does it through cable airwaves and media appearances as well as the optics of sending troops to the border, 5,200 troops dispatched in the coming day thes. We wait for the visuals. On the issue of birth right citizenship he is raising a new issue. He thinks he has the Constitutional Authority listen to how he couched it in the interview with axios. It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Right. You dont. You dont. You number one you dont need that. Thats in sfut. Thats very much in zbut. Well you can definitely do it with an act of congress. But now theyre saying i do it with an executive order. How ridiculous, were the only country in the world where a person comes in has a baby and the baby is a citizen of the United States for 85 years with all of those bifurcates. Its ridiculous. Its ridiculous. And it has to end. Hallie the president will be visiting some eight states, six states in the final closing moments. But its clear he wants the attention on the border. When you look at media engagement, fox news as well as axios, he was driving the immigration argument. He feels comfortable talking about it. He thinks it favors him. One point in the fox interview, he talked about having the military down there building the tent cities to make sure that you can have some place to house the immigrants coming in seeking asylum. Remember back in jun, he actually dep tuccied and a lot of military bases prepare for something similar and a lot of ways what he does now with the military is what he did back in jun but doing it on a temporary basis. He has a lot more assets hallie. Hans nichols at the white house. Thank you. Let me bring in phil rucker mailboxes nbc political analyst and friend of show. And willing alexey cameron. And ken vogel. Eagle fans extraordinaria. Thats the reason we bring you back. Love it. Element let me start. Alexey with you at your organization is the one got the interview with President Trump. Driving headlines. Back story your your colleague heard of a discussion about talking more about birth right citizenship in the closing days of the midterm campaign. Asked the president about it. You heard the response the president gave. To be clear, legally almost impossible to do this Via Executive order. This is a constitutional amendment. The president cant just go in and just say just kidding. Although he believes he has the legal authority. This is a political play. Seven days out. Yes. So that is absolutely clear, right you cant rewrite the constitution through executive order. But we how much the president loves the executive orders. He signed 55 in the first year as president the most since any president since 1993. But, again, we are so close to the midterms, President Trump obviously wants it to be about immigration. He is this would be the most dramatic turn on his hard line stance on immigration we have seen probably you know throughout his presidency. The thing to note though is that this interview was not just about immigration. While we know he wants to make it a top issue before the election they talked with him about rg from Climate Change to the way he talks about the media and swan brought this up saying i have heard this and trump admitted it. And said confirmed everything swan heard. Lets be clear here to paraphrase marko rubio donald trump knows what he was doing. He was frustrated he felt the news cycle was getting away from him. After his response to the pittsburgh shooting. And the pipe bombs mailed to critics. He is trying to seize the attention back. He has done that with the birth right citizenship gam bit as well as the talk continuing to float the talk about troops to the border. Even floating the possibility of a 10 additional middle class tax cut which members of congress who would be the ones who would have to be brought into implement this had no idea about this. These are an effort to claim the news cycle in a way he believes will rile up the base into the midterms. In other words, ken, boil it down to playbook 2016. We are seeing a reflection of what donald trump did to win the presidency in 2016. Its my mupgds the white house believes the strategy worked. The. President believes it worked then and can work again. We took a trip down memory lane. I just started recovering the republican primary race. 100 republicans running but donald trump was driving the narrative with discussion on fwrimgs. There is a very big question as to the anchor babies. Theyve been talking about it for years. Theres a big question as to whether or not the 14th amendment actually covers this process. Ted cruz may not be a u. S. Citizen, right . But he is an anchor baby. No he is an anchor baby. I can tell you six weeks ago donald trump was saying every day that i was his friend, and now im an anchor baby. So the anchor babies is a term thats supposed to be a per juror active. Its a oefds. I dont use the term. Remember, that was a flash point during the of 2016 campaign. The president now a week before the midterms is talking about in again, despite phil rucker the legal and logistical and practical impossibilities of this. Although the president thinks he has legal grounds to stand on. Thats not what we hear from the experts. It would be a difficult battle to be chlor, phil. Thats right, hallie, basically the president coming up with another immigration proposal to throw out before the midterm elections. He is running a Campaign Based on fear and anxiety and stoking the grievances of his base to turn them out. One of the key arguments the president made in the axios interview was to say we are the only country thats a birth right citizenship policy. Thats not true. Thats false. There are more than a dozen countries including canada that have this policy. He doesnt have the facts right. Phil, to pull back the curtain i saw you and your colleagues in lower press in the white house as i was there yesterday and you have this piece you put out. Not this one which by the way talk about how the synagogue shooting family one is rejecting an offer to meet with President Trump. You talk broadly about the white house struggle and the the president s seeming struggles to balance in idea of compassion for the victims with the fight ahead of the midterps. I want to talk to you about that. Because its a question in the briefing with the press secretary yesterday we troyed to get to this point. Watch. That means i love the country. It means im fighting for the country. I look at two things, global i was and national ifts. Im somebody that wants to take care of the country because for many, many years you know this better than anybody our. A National Tragedy take precedence over the president needing to punch back if not now when. I think you saw the president doing exactly that the wake of the National Tragedy not just this week but every time our country experienced the time of heart ache and pain that we have in the last week. You guys have a huge responsibility to play in the divisive nature of this country when 90 of the coverage of everything this president does is negative, ziet the fact that the country is doing extremely well. But phil pull back a second over the last week we have seen several major incidents causing great concern among people looking at these as racially ethnically motivated hate crimes. Mail bombs sent, the Kentucky Store shooting and the synagogue shooting over the weekend. Can you talk threw what your reporting has revealed to you about how the west wing sees this. What we see right now, hallie, is the president s moral leadership is really under the microscope with the mail bombings and with the synagogue shooting recently. The white house like the president is very much off kilter, struggling to find a balance between showing empathy and consoling the country which the president s aides admit donald trump is not particularly skilled or good at or comfortable doing. And continuing the attack on the Political Campaign trail. The president has wanted to spend this last week just 100 attacking democrats, bringing up immigration and so forth and been distracted by the national traenls very much outside his own control. And the 23minute press conference we saw yesterday with Sarah Sanders i think reflected the unease within the white house thats really emanating from the president hemz trying to strike the balance between consoling people and combatting people as you put it at the top of the show. Phil rucker great reporting and i appreciate you joining the broadcast today. Thank you. Alexey and ken stick around. Because republicans are claiming restrictry in the north Dakota Senate race. All the polls have them up. But Heidi Heitkamp says not so fast. Her berry a big name in north dakota radio is joining us live next telling us why they dont believe the hype. Our midterm talk continues next. My ancestrydna results revealed parts of me i didnt even know. I find out im 19 native american specifically from the chihuahua people. This is year, ten snapt Senate Democrats run for reelection appearen and one of Heidi Heitkamp of north dakota have having a tough time defending territory. She is down 14 points in the real clear politics average putter behind kevin kramer. With 7 days to go one of the key voting blocks is stranling now with a new voter id law. As you can see from this picture you need a residential address on your id to be able to vote. But for a lot of tribal citizens they dont have that. Many of the 31,000 living on the states five reservations could be disenfranchised. Tribal voters voted overwhelming for hide camp six years ago cribbing to her victory. Joining me is joel heitkamp. Heidis brother. And kfgo 7 90 a. M. Thank you for being on the show. Thank you for having me. Let me starpt with the tribal voting issue becoming an issue in north dakota. What is hidety heitkamp doing . Huss what is the message to the tribal voters saying, listen democrats only care about us when they are in a pickle. How is she going to solve this. They are spending a lot of time on the reservations doing everything they can to speak to the tribal leaders and get the word out to the native americans and our fellow north dakotaens not to let these guys poot you. You do what you have to do. This was by design. Dont kid yourself. This was by design. The Republican Party was pouting after losing this seat six years ago by less than 3,000 votes. For those individuals there is a state senator writing letters to the editor admitting there went a problem, wasnt any indication what so far of corruption. And yet they did everything they could to make sure they disenfranchised in block of voters. You have that issue happening in north dakota. But you also have your sister seeing the gap widen frankly, not in the message she wants to see between her and dp kramer. Her closing message, health care, economy. She pitched as maybe a partner to the president but not afraid to criticize him. Something about the message is not working. It depends if you belief the police. Im a Steve Kornacki fan but he is not making my trivial pursuit team any time seen. Fighting words from our friend, joel. I dont know if im going to wake up on november 7th and find out she won or lost. Dont get me wrong. I know the race is way closer than portrayed by national media. I know that. Why, how. I travel the state as much as anyone. And i have access to polling data, right. My sister who by the way its her birthday and she is a lot older than me i talk to her every now and then. She believes she is in the race her staff pleefs it. I believe the pundit its in north dakota that are not friends of hers are starting to admit that this race is much closer. You know, some of the individuals that have polled this race, they put a lot of emphasis on Western North dakota and they dont they weight that too hard. Thats the true. This race is closer. And listen, as 2012 showed us the real clear politics had the sister down i think 8 points. Ended up winning the race. Let me ask you quickly here there was obviously a big story in the last couple weeks about misusing womens names in the letter that Heidi Heitkamp put out. The senator retracted and apologized of course. Outside observers saw that as in their view the final nail in the coffin considering it opened the polling gap. Do you think eight days from now if she loses the race thats one of the big reasons why . Well, i think they made a mistake and they admitted to that. I think north dakotaens by and large understand when somebody takes responsibility. And so as far as the last nail in the could have. There is a lot of nails that arent even in the coffin yet. Okay. Like i said, this is a close race. Did they make a mistake . You bet. And i was pretty proud of heidi for taking responsibility for it. Very quickly as i run out of time here, joel, 12 million after senator heitkamp voted no on brett kavanaugh. How she spending that money. Snes trying to get word out on the reservations to the individuals out there. Get out and vote. Thats the key. Okay. She is pushing ard hard on that. Joel, appreciate you coming on. Thank you very much. We are watching now two Campaign Events this hour. Checking out the split screen on the left joe biden getting ready to campaign in wisconsin. On the right pretty soon we see Andrew Gillum, the democratic nominee in florida. The road warriors, the new class out covering it all. Live reports from three big battleground states after the break. Hi. I just wanted to tell you that chevy won a j. D. Power dependability award for its midsize carthe chevy malibu. I forgot. Four years ago, we rejected marshall tuck and his billionaire backers for superintendent of public instruction. But theyre back. The corporate billionaires and their handpicked candidate, former wall street banker marshall tuck. Tucks billionaires have spent over 25 million distorting tony thurmonds outstanding record on education. All because they know tuck shares their agenda diverting funds from our Public Schools into their corporate charter schools. The same agenda as trump and betsy devos. Protect our Public Schools. Say no, again, to marshall tuck. Wisconsin in madison where any minute Vice President joe biden takes the stage to make his final pitch to voters. Nbc news is vorting today bide isnt on a mission to help win become the swing states but flipped to vote for donald trump in the 2016. Lets get to the team of road warriors with mike menley in madison where biden looks to pick up ground. In a piece you describe in the ultimate state that got away from Hillary Clinton in 2016 reporter thats right. Hallie, a state that president obama won twice in 2008 and 2012. Democrats thought they had it in the bag in 2016 but we saw President Trump pick it up on the way to the white house. Today joe bide isnt here. He has not one but two events campaigning on behalf of tammy balanced within and important race for governor here in wisconsin. As you know i spent a lot of time with joe biden doing events for more than 50 candidates. Any time President Trump is . A state we see biden in a day or two. He campaigns as well as president obama in a lot of states that they carried last time that trifrp picked up. Conversation to the voters who flipped from blue to red they want to flip become. If you look behind me you see red hats those are not maga hats. Those are university of casino badger hats. Senator baldwin has a pretty comfortable lead. Ten points in the real clear politics average. Democrats really want to knock off scott walker. Tony evers in the slight lead by three points. I should mention talking about biden in the role in 2018. After this we are going to iowa. He has an event there this evening. First time he is making a trip to the important early caucus state. Floating perhaps not just 2018 but 2020 talks mike, thank you. Lets head north to minnesota wrp the 8th district could be the only congressional seat to swrich from democrat to republican. Thats kef li kevin tibls in duluth. You are talking with Blue Collar Workers who democrats need to win back, right. Absolutely. And the 8th is absolutely huge. The 8th in minnesota is larger stand the state of West Virginia and as a matter of fact up here outside of the iron range they also depend on mining for in re sustain ability here in the duluth area. I happen to be joined by rob aber nagty, a Third GenerationFamily Member running the Industrial Machine and welders companies here in duluth. Correct. Why are you going republican this time out . Well, its the states typically been blue the longest time. Right now, with the tax environment, were one of the heaviest tax states in the nation. As a result, what the president did for example with the steel industry, youre beholden the steel industry. Correct. Are people getting back to work here . Absolutely. Are times looking up. Absolutely, yeah, weious hired another guy, possibly hiring on a couple more coming down the road here. Is there a trickle down from that . Are you noticing anything in duluth as a result. Absolutely. The trickle down from the iron range with the Mining Industry is just massive. Hmm which way you see more people at restaurants, Car Dealerships working out. All of the above. Back in 20082009 with the recession i was talking to a dealership friends and he said he didnt even feel the recession up here because of the Mining Industry, the pipeline industries. They spent they spent some 10 million in this district, perhaps trying to sway it either way. We have been talking to a lot of people on the democrat side as well. We will get to that a little later on. But the 8th in minnesota is clearly a happening place back to you, hallie. Thank you check out the fire alarm. Be careful lets head south to the marianna you a tenseio in houston, texas where ted cruz is trying to beat orourke in a tough race. And some congressional races playing out but one thing key, the hispanic vote. What do you hear from folks there . Reporter this is a competitive race, hallie. The congressional seventh. A onepoint race according to the polls. That has to do with the College Educated white that swayed away from President Trump in 2016 but also it has to do with the changing demographics in this district, hallie. You have 42 white, 14 africanamericans. But 30 latinos. And what we hear on the ground from pollsters and experts is that democrats think if they can get the latinos out here that could be what takes lizzy fletcher the democratic challenger over the top turning this seat here. What are the issues ha latinos in the congressional seventh here in texas care about. I have roberto here who voted early. And roberto, can i ask you, what are the main issues as a latino voter that motivated you today. Well, this is the immigration because i hear so many bad things about the immigrants and really the truth is this country is built out of immigrants. Coming from europe, coming from everywhere. And we are not bad people. We are here to work and have a better life. And grow a family. And just a better life for everybody. So immigration, number one issue for you. Can i ask you also, President Trump said that he is taking teps to possibly rescind birth right citizenship. Did that way your vote this morning. Well thats another thing, i hear about it and how he can change the constitution just because he feel like it, i dont know where this thing come out from, just kwaus cause the people to be called american citizens born in here in this land and he says theyre not theyre not american citizen, its something thats been for many years in the constitution. I dont understand what he is doing that. Thank you for talking with us today robert eu are o pch i appreciate it. Immigration is as number one issue. But a lot of latinos voters in texas dont thirpg that way. We have spoken to a lot of latino conservative in texas which who side with President Trump on immigration. So the take away is, democrats should not, cant take for granted the fact that this if latinos turn out they turn out for them. A Marianna Atencio in texas. Seven days until the election. By the way, perhaps no state more unpredictable in politics than florida. Voters there backed president obama twice. Two years ago back to the gop for President Trump. Now both big names head south with the Governors Mansion and a senate seat up for grasp. With which pert has the grabs. Were back with the fight for florida. Mmhmm. On the left side of the screen a Live Campaign event for Andrew Gillum, the democrat running for governor. Florida, of course, is President Trumps adopted home state in a way. Where tomorrow he is headed out on a rescue mission to try and help republican candidates in two big race there is. Youve got gillum leading ron desanity ez by five points. Enough of a lead that its clearly irking the president. Here is a guy that in my opinion is a stone cold thief. And his city tallahassee is known as the most corrupt in florida. If florida has a governor like that and i know florida better than i know practically anywhere florida will become venezuela, a disaster. No evidence by the way to support the thief claim by the. Its not just the governor claim. The its the senate race. The incumbent rick scott is trailing. These races are close. Who knows what happens. But one thing we know turnout is up. Way up in florida with more than 2 million early votes cast there already. Joining me now to talk all things sunshine state, al cardness. Former dwirs to jeb bush and the state director for president obamas 2008 campaign and Senior Adviser to florida reelection effort in 2012. Alexi, ken, guys gangs all here. Al you get first krk. The latest on the fight between donald trump, Andrew Gillum do you see it back firing on President Trump and helping to motivate progressives in florida. Yeah, look, i think the main message for republicans in florida, is the economy is going great. Created more jobs than any other state. The legislature, the governor did a great job. Why change the tune . There is a lady, a neighbor of mine in tallahassee who said i asked her i said arent up burned out by the. And his divisiveness . She said, you know, honey i dont pay him no never mind. The economy is good. I like my job. I like the economy. And i dont want the democrats to change anything. And so thats our biggest strength. But coming down here to florida and taking on the democrat candidate for governor, i dont think is a recipe to win. But well see. Look we have a bad marriage within the Republican Party. We figured out that a divorce we couldnt beat the democrats, and this is a first real test to see whether that marriage bad merriman works. Steve, al has a point if people focus on the economy perhaps that gives republicans an emin your state the state you know well. You also have Andrew Gillum, his race has become a factor this this contest. Yes. Saying ron did he santos pb racist no he is a racist is that a strong message. I think desantos made a decision to appeal to the broader audience. Through the trump coalition. The reason trump comes to florida is he needs the turnout in places where trump won. I think whether you see from desoonts ads or the rhetoric toward andrew. Its about driving the hard core base that showed in 2016. Its a risky proposition. I remember talking towelling in the run up to 2016 and things were all over the place. They were on the show there were a lot of question base how florida went. There is the times piece talking about gillums fate depends how well his aspirational vision plays in the largest battleground, a place of cultural and economic diverty its more like five states in one. How do you campaign in those five states. You have to approach it like five states. The campaign ads in places like jacksonville and tallahassee are different than miami. But its about putting together the puzzle. For democrats its more about south florida and north florida. Thats really propel andrew gill up, the 3 million votes cast so far 50,000 between the two parties come down to the independents. Thats where gillums strength is. And the president all in in florida as the washington and the advisers point out. Its a test of the tactics and the political operation of the Trump Campaign. This is the first place where they have really seen them where they have tried to deploy the text messaging operation. They put out texts to Republican Voters who havent cast ballots. Rented out the list to ron desantos one of the first placed where Trump Campaign rented out the list of 18 to 20 million contacts to raise money and the florida voters to try to get them out to vote. Clearly its important to the president , not just symbolically but also headed into 2020 to show whether the operation he built he built so much time and money building unlike 2016 when it was more of a shoe string operation can be deployed successfully. Al, i think you hear you trying to jump in. Maybe you dont. Just kidding let me see this because i want to talk about the messaging from President Trump. Because ken you make me think of how it is about the ground game for the sort of Campaign Operation as a whole for republicans. But also about how the president fights this. He is going after we know Andrew Gillum repeatedly. And gillum responds he did this on the network yoefrp watch. He performs as all weak people do by bullying others. You are talking about the most powerful position in the free world and the president of the United States takes time to badger me, to bully me on twitter. I mean, it doesnt make any sense. The president needs to grow up. Al, is he wrong . Well, look, maybe yes, maybe no. All i know is no one is changing their minds how theyre going to vote. Theyre going to vote on the national agenda. The voters in florida are going to decide have made up their mind. Less than 10 undecided two months ago. Unheard of. The many problem with the democrats is the vote under 3030 so far is very low. To my personal disappoint, the hispanic vote is low. Those are factors beyond the apology. This is a down to wire race decided maybe after election day, hallie, i think florida is florida. All the races are decided by one point or less. I dont think i dont see this one as really any different. Steves party need to figure out how to get the young votes out. Steve before i let you go i have 10 seconds. But id be remiss if i didnt ask you about joe biden 20 to is he run zblog he was here more two days with him in four cities. I can tell you one thing over two days we didnt talk about 020 one time. Come on. He is focused on 2018. I dont believe you. He is focused on 2018. What he says publicly what he says privately. We will find out in a few weeks or months. Steve, al, thank you so much. I know we will talk about florida more. Alexey and ken see you in a couple of minutes. Pruch as you know, has bragged about how successful his endorsements have been. A lot of republicans he backed have been elected. Okay what about now . Key senate races he is involved are not trending how republicans like. Even though all states that the president won in 2016. Were looking at which. And the implications for control of congress coming up. This is frank. Sup this is franks favorite record. This is franks dog. And this is franks record shop. Frank knowns northern soul, but how to set up a limited liability company. Whats that mean . Not so much. So he turned to his friends at legalzoom. Yup they hooked me up. We helped with his llc, contracts, and some other stuff thats part of running a business. So frank can focus on the beat. You hear that . This is franks record shop. And this is where life meets legal. Discover. O. I like your card, but im absolutely not paying an annual fee. Discover has no annual fees. Really . Yeah. We just dont believe in them. Oh nice. You would not believe how long ive been rehearsing that. No annual fee on any card. Only from discover. Vo costs are rising. E squeeze. Its hard to keep up. In washington, one party is calling the shots and the middle class isnt being heard. We need a new congress that will cut taxes for the middle class, ensure coverage for people with preexisting conditions, and protect Social Security and medicare. Vote for a democratic congress; for an economy that works for everyone. Independence usa pac is responsible for the content of this advertising. Always a catch. Like somehow you wind up getting less. But now that i book at hilton. Com, and i get all these great perks. I got to select my room from the floor plan. Very nice. I know, im good at picking stuff. Free wifi. So weve ben tell you how President Trump is going to be heading to pittsburgh this afternoon along with the first lady and ivanka trump and Jared Kushner to spay respects to the victims of the synagogue shooting, but not going all four top congressional leaders. Nbc now confirms mitch mcconnell, chuck schumer, paul ryan, nancy pelosi have declined a invitation to join the president. So the president focusing today on pittsburgh we are still seven days out from critical midterm elections. Lets talk arizona. In the Key Senate Race there the democrats reed. Kirstin is up over margaret an mcsally in the new poll out this morning. Keep in mind this is not a revelation. The numbers dont matter if you dont vote. New early voter data found Republican Voters outpace democratic votes and in other key states. Florida, fwa, texas. In all more than 18 Million People voted across the country. Nbcs Steve Kornacki where he belongs at the big board for 18 in 18. 18 races to watch. Where you taking us today. We are taking you, get ready for this to the home, the birth place of jello. Where you ask might that be . Ladies and gentlemen, it is smack in the middle of new yorks 27th congressional district. Western new york. Just outside buffalo. And this is, by the way, in the 2016 election certainly this was Trump Country, traditionally republican district or at least in recent times a republican district. That really went big for donald trump in 2006. He won it by 24 points. Why the heck are we talking about it as a race to watch . Because the incumbent here you may know this name, this would story, chris collins, the first member of congress to endorse President Trump. More recently chris colins is facing a federal indictment. As he faces a loom trial he is running for reelection. There is a wild card. A district that would normally be a very safe republican district in in midterm election. The republican incumbent embattled by the scandal by the controversy. And so the question is, you know, democrats the suburbs, we say the clinton district. We look at obvious places. But are there random districts like this where there is a factor loo like a scandal giving a chance. What are we seeing in the 27th . Her a poll from last week . A district trump won by 24 points. Collins clinging a 4 hadpoint lead. And there is undecided, flux in that race. There is one to keep an eye on on election night, hallie. Steve, you got called out earlier in the show. I dont know if you heard it. But joel heitkamp, heidis brother said this. I think we pulled. Well it depends if you believe the polls. Im a Steve Kornacki fan dont get me wrong. But he is not making my trivial pursuit teamny time soon. Fighting friends from our friend. Sfeef i got to ask you, north dakota we were talking about senator heitkamp down there by double digits . Are you confident are you in the in the number. This is not the fight thats useful. I dont want a fight with anybody here. Over numbers. Im not saying she cant win or out of the race. Im not saying a campaign should say we are out of the race or not going to win. All i can tell you we look at the races, look at the underlying factors in each race in terms of how trump did. And we look at polling numbers. Polling is limited in north dakota more than other sates. Yeah. Since the middle of soept for what its weather we have had three polls out of north dakota. In one the republican led by 10 points. In one of them the republican led by 12 points. And in was leading by 12 points, and in one of them the republican was leading by 167 points. Texas weve had like 42 gazillion polls so were a little more confident in how that stands. Weve had three in north dakota. I can only look at that compared to the other states and say north dakotas a state that donald trump won by 36 points. So when you look at those democratic incumbents to say heitka heitkamps the most vulnerable right now, that is what the numbers tell us. We were together in new york and you were talking about Donald TrumpsApproval Ratings and how that is going to play in the midterm races not just in north dakota but all across the country. Hes ticking up slightly, right . Down, down i should say . He had been. Take gallop for instance, they do a weekly one. Last week they had him at 44 . That was his average in all the polls about a week ago. Republicans have been saying 44 approval for trump. We have a chance to hang on to the house. Gallop released their latest one, a drop of four points. If that holds, a drop from the mid40s to the low 40s could have a pretty significant effect on a lot of those house races. Steve kornacki. Love having you at the big board, my friend. Thank you, well see you tomorrow. That trump factor on full display in pennsylvania which is where we find Morgan Radford. What are you seeing in the race youre covering there . Reporter its not only that race, but were also seeing some of that public mistrust around the polling steve just mentioned. The president has really bragged about the power of his endorsements over and over again. We found five states where trump won in 2016 but the candidates he endorsed are dragging behind in the polls, in some cases by as much as doubledigits. Is trumps power slipping in Trump Country . If so, what could explain it. We went to pennsylvania, and we talked to a candidate whos received some of the strongest president ial support this year, but hes still lagging behind. This is the trump truck. Are these just all the politicians you like . Yeah, these are the politicians i respect. Roving across the country in support of both the president and the candidates hes endorsed. At the top of that list, Pennsylvania Senate candidate, lou barletta. A congressman who has voted with the president 97. 8 of the time standing with him on key issues like border security, immigration, and gun control. Its immigration, border security. Its the economy, i mean, theyre the things that people talk about here all the time. But despite trumps popularity here, barletta is currently trailing by doubledigits against democratic incumbent, bob casey. A gab his supporters in pennsylvania blame on the polling. Theres no question the polls are wrong. But barlettas not alone. Across the country, there are four other states that trump won in 2016 where the Senate Candidates hes endorsing are trailing in the polls. Its a lag that might be explained by voters like joe chomak. So is this your hangout . Yes, it is. He voted for trump in 2016 as a democrat, but says barletta doesnt have that same spark. Did you vote for President Trump in the last election . Yes. Are you a lifelong republican . No, actually, im a democrat. Oh, youre a democrat . Yes. And you voted for trump in the last election. Why . Because i dont like hillary. Kind of tired of professional politicians. Are you going to vote for barletta for senate . No. Why not . I dont like barletta. So do you feel like lou barletta is trustworthy . No. Here at chicks diner in scranton, democratic craig malen says theres a bigger problem. I dont think barletta is running a local Campaign Like casey does, and i think thats by design. He says the president s effort to nationalize the race wont work here where voters care more about local issues. Youre going against a different kind of candidate. Youre not going against Hillary Clinton right . Youre going against bob casey. So locally, thats a totally different thing. Totally different. As for the candidate himself, he says this is all shaping up to be a repeat of 2016. Polls in pennsylvania were wrong with donald trump. They were wrong with pat toomey, and theyre going to be wrong with lou barletta. A candidate his supporters say is right about the issues. If youre here illegal, ill do everything in my power to kick you the hell out of here. Why is that . You dont belong here. Come here legally. Go back to your own country and straighten it out. Believes its just a matter of time before trumps base comes rolling back. Those pennsylvania voters told me this year theyre voting on the issues. But they said the president ial election for them was about personality. In other words they didnt like Hillary Clinton, but they didnt exactly mind the Democratic Candidates on the midterm ballots this year, which they said puts them in a tight spot. Theyre torn whether they vote for the democratic nominee or whether to vote at all. Nbcs Morgan Radford our road warrior there. Thank you very much. I want to apologize for those technical glitches.
