When it comes to border squuecuy and border wall, theyre conflating those terms. A border wall has been a Signature Campaign part of Donald Trumps time as a political figure. Now as president and having to govern, the wall presents some political hurdles, obstacles because demeanors dont wan it, some republicans dont. Th cost factor is an issue. So to talk about forcing some conversation about Border Security, could there be resources devoted there, that there could be latitude for the administration to use those funds to begin planning and construction of a wall. A step in that direction they consider a positive. Will that be the defining moment when is deal a reached in thats the ball back theyre in. They want to be able to show theyre reflecting the president s ideas and thats what e well see play out. Now Reince Priebus was talking about this over the weekend giving us a sense there are black and white lines but there might be some gray here. We want to change topics for a moment. President trump is holding a Video Conference with astronauts on board the International Space station to congratulate peggy who has broken the record for the most cumulative days in space. Peggy jack and kate, i know that americas students are thrilled to hear from you. But first i want to say this is a special day in the glorious history of American Space flight. Today commander whitson, you have broken the record for the most total time spent in space by an american astronaut, 534 days and counting. Thats an incredible record to break and on behalf of our nation and frankly on behalf of the world i would like to congratulate you. That is really something ap a. And i would like to know mb how does it feel to have broken such a big and important record . Well, its actually a huge honor to break a record like this. But its an honor for me basically to be representing all of the folks at nasa who make this space flight possible and who make me setting this record feasible. And so its very exciting time to be at nasa. Were all very much looking forward as directed by your new nasa bill, were excited about the missions to mars in the 2030s and so were actually physically have hardware on the ground thats being built for the sls rocket thats going to take us there and of course the hardware being built now is going to be for the test flights that will eventually get us there. Its an exciting time and im so proud of the team. Great. And what are we learning from having you spending your time up there . I know so Much Research is being done. Im getting a glimpse of it here in the oval office. What are we learning by being in space . Well i think probably the International Space station is providing a key bridge from us doing living on earth to going somewhere into deep space. On those Mars Missions we need to better understand how the microgravity is affecting our body. Were looking at the human body. Were also looking at things that involve operations of a space vehicle on these Long Duration missions and the Technological Advancements that will be required. For instance, on a multiyear mars mission, were going to be able to need to close the life support system. And that means we right now, for instance, are making solar power that we collect and using it to break apart water into oxygen and hydrogen. The oxygen we breathe, of course. We use the hydrogen, combine wit the co2 that we take out of the air and make more water. Water is such a Precious Resource up here that we also are cleaning up our urine and making it drinkable. And its really not as bad as it sounds. Well thats good. Im glad to hear that. Better you than me. I will say, colonel fisher, you just arrived. How was your trip . Complicated . Easy . How did it go . Oh, sir, it was awesome. It made even my beloved f22 feel a little bit underpowered. You know, i launched in a russian vehicle with my russian friend from kazakhstan, got the immediate perspective change as i got to orbit and saw the frail blue line around the earth. Six hours later were docked to the station. The next day i install and experiment in the japanese module thats looking at new drugs and how we can make those drugs for muscular dystrophy, alzheimers, multidrug resistant bacteria, all sorts of things. A couple of hours later i watched our crew mate, a frenchman, drive a canadian robotic arm to capture a spaceship from virginia carrying 3. 5 tons of cargo and science thats going to keep us busy and dock that to the station. Its amazing. And oh, now im talking to the president of the United States while hanging from a wall. Its amazing. The International Space station is the best kpem. Of International Cooperation and what we can do when we Work Together in the history of humani humanity. I am so proud to be a part of it. And its also just cool. Like yesterday i had there you go. There is our resident space ninja doing the gravity demonstration. And yesterday morning i had my coffee in floaty ball form and sir, it was delicious. Its awesome. Tell me, mars, what do you see a timing for actually spending humans to mars . Is there a schedule and when would you see that happening . Well, i think as your bill directed, it will be approximately in the 2030s. As i mentioned, we actually are Building Hardware to test the new heavy launch vehicle. And this vehicle will take us further than weve ever been away from this planet. So unfortunately space flight takes a lot of time and money. Getting there will require om International Cooperation to get it to be a planet wide approach in order to make it special. Just because it is a very expensive endeavor. It is so worthwhile doing. Well, we want to try and do it during my first time or at worst during any second time so well have to speed that up a little bit, okay . Well do our best. Im sure you will. And i have Great Respect for you folks. You do. I want to introduce another great one, kate rubin is with us today. Shes so impressive in research and so many other things having to do with nasa. I kate, i understand youre the first person to sequence dn i space. Can you tell us about that . Yes. Justes, that was actually justt summer. And its a real example of what we can do with technology and innovation. Weve got the sequencer down to the size of your cell phone and we were able to fly that onboard the space station. We can use that to do things like detect microbes on the space station, we can easily use that in earthbased settings to look for disease outbreaks and Rural Health Care as well. That is fantastic. Really great. Ive been dealing with politicians so much, im so much more impressed with these people. You have no idea. Speaking of another impressive person, ivanka, youve been interested in this program. Its amazing. Tell us something about it. Hi, dr. Whitson, first of all congratulations on your incredible milestone today. You may know that my father recently signed the inspire women act to encourage female participation in s. T. E. M. Fields across arroyo space areas and really with a focus on nasa. Encouraging women to have careers in s. T. E. M. Is a part of this administration. I would love to hear from you what was the impetus for you to get involved in the iences. Yes. So when i was actually. 15 i went to a conference and that was very inspiring for me. It was sort of the beginning of understanding biology. Just that exposure to scientists and the kinds of things you can do with science, technology and innovation. Amazing. Dr. Whitson . All right. President trump there speaking to the International Space station on a historic day. Two days after we all millions of people march for science around the world. I want to bring back kelly odonne odonnell. This is how President Trump is kicking off day one of this important week. What else do woe have to focus on here . Reporter it has been unusual for the white house under the Trump Administration to preview multiple days ahead hub lick pi f publicly for us. In this case they did. He will celebrate his 100th day in harrisburg, pennsylvania. But youre right to point out the juxtaposition of talking to the astronauts, a march on the weekend for science and the president using earth day to tweet about the discrepancy that people see about jobs and environment and science. So other big items on this public week will include an unusual, unprecedented meeting of the United NationsSecurity Council coming to the white house with nikki haley. The president will have high profile meetings. He will dine with popular figs that have not seen eye to eye with the prident. There will be a rollout of tax cuts, not any specifics but within idea of what the president s goals are for tax cuts for corporations and individuals. Trying to program each day to have something they want to say with the 100day score card. At the same time the president says its an arbitrary deadline. But outsiders are going to judge us by 100 days, we want to have something to talk about. I want to bring in casey hunt. I want to go back to the border wall given how important this possible Government Shutdown is, how is Congress Going to handle now we have boom, tossed the wall in the mix when so many even republicans, especially those in states bordering mexico do not support this wall. There are so many things they could have focused on. Why this . How is Congress Going to handle it . Reporter the signal was capitol hill is that they were working together, republicans and democrats had gone through this process, gotten to the point where they could actually write new legislation to fund at least several key government agencies. They were potentially going to have to go along and continue at the current levels, funding for another piece of the government. But at the same time Chuck Schumer, the minority leader in the senate, his office had sort lf of been telegraphing that the white house should stay out of this process. Warning that they, especially on the border wall question, decided they were going to the mat to push it through, that they were going to have problems with that. This goes back to the pressure that Chuck Schumer is und from his Democratic Base in particular, not to be seen as cooperating with any of the president s, particularly more inflammatory priorities. Take a look at what schumer said this morning on morning joe. Mitch mcconnell, paul ryan, nancy pelosi were working along great. We wer on the path of getting stuff done, a good thing that both parties could support and he throws a Monkey Wrench in. Now, i understand its understandable. He has his first 100 days, health care hasnt worked out. Hes trying to do something with taxes, something with health care. Now theres the wall. Thats note the way to govern. Reporter at this point all of my sources are saying that a Government Shutdown ask not what were in for at the end of this week, that there will be some solution here, one way or the other. But i do think that the key thing to watch is how high does the temperature go from the white house and how does Mitch Mcconnell respond to this. Before Congress Went on recess there was a little bit of back and forth where Mitch Mcconnell suggested that schumer had been talking to the white house about how to do this bill and schumer pushed back on that. Mitch mcconnell within, i asked you see a world where the white house might make demands that would cause a shutdown. He said no, congress is on track to get this done. So i think to a certain extent it is up to the white house. I think over the weekend you saw me signs that that they night be a little more aggressive than we initially thought. But i do think that any kind of bill that would generate a big headline, Congress Funds border wall is going to be a nonstart a er for democrats. How unusual is it, for the president to directly engage in this type of budget talk and demand things being in or out, especially such as divisive as this border wall . I dont think its unusual at all for the white house to be intimately involved in the negotiations. In the end it has to be law and have the president s signature. They will be molding it from the start. Whats difference about this president is his propensity to negotiate in public, to take positions via twitter and other things. I think folks on capitol hill find that unset inning witling. They did this to allow the next president to put his or her mark on it to make sure his priorities can be reflected in it. Theres an agreement that there will be increased spending. The real question is the border wall. And my rule of thumb is, its easy to figure out what they have to do. And thats what will get done. They dont always get to do what they want to do. And i think the president would like to get the border wall in there but it looks like a bad piece of politics for the democrats and unlikely to make it. Will it will be democrats fault if we face a shutdown . Here we have in 2017 and the republicans run the show across the board. I thinkhere are two way to look at it. One is can you win the blame game if you shut down the government. Thats one approach to this. I dont think its the most profitable for the republicans. What they want to do is show they can govern, having the government shut down is not governing effectively. They want to fund the government for 2017. They want to mf ove on to their signature issues and then they want to fund the government for 2018. Thats the focus of the republicans and the president is going to try to shape this bill but i dont think hes going to risk a shutdown and put the rest to have the agenda at risk as well. Josh, the president has made the point, his base, they want to see this wall. Its a Campaign Promise. There have been a lot of Campaign Promises, whether its the wall, lock her up, his name op on nato or china. There are other ways. Defense spending, he got some praise of bipartisan support of how he handled syria. Some positive reaction now that he may be working with china on some sort of resolution for north korea. Is it a mistake that the president is going back to the wall. I think its a mistake to shut down the government over the wall. I dont think its a mistake for him to talk about it. The Campaign Promise was that he would build a wall and mexico would talk about it. If he were delivering on that, you wouldnt need an appropriation from congress. You do have a point. When you read through Reince Priebuss comments other tver t weekend, what hes saying is they want funding for dhs, Border Security, preparations toward the construction of a wall which is to say we dont feed need to bill this wall on this bill. There was money for Border Security for surveillancehat gets us ready to build aall later. If thats what the president wants to say, thats a fine thing to do. In terms of saying i ran on it and you have to pay for it, if hes going to get in that fight with congress, hes going to lose. Its not just democrats who 0 peas t oppose the wall. All of the republicans along the border and who represent the border oppose it. Its his own party thats going to be standing up to him on this. Does President Trumps team, it seems that the administration is always sort of talking things down, whether its were going to vote on health care this week, were going to lay out a tax plan and then immediately after theyre reshaping it. Is he setting up his own administration you know to put him in a tough position there, turning to ivanka and ivanka immediately talking about women going into s. T. E. M. Fields. Women go into s. T. E. Maine fields and become astronauts when they have great educations. This is a time when were seeing funding ripped from education. How do you ie line President Trumps rhetoric and promises with what his team delivers. He was able to work in real estate where he was able to make big promises and not be held accountable. There was a project he kicked around in public for 30 years without ever building it. Saying im going to build a 140story tower on the west side of manhattan. The fact that he didnt get it done didnt affect his brand handling. I dont think that works as well in government when people start to notice youve promised to repeal obamacare and you havent delivered on it. That the tax plan, he comes out of nowhere saying hes going to announce a tax plan. It did affect his brand building in terms of when President Trump makes a statement at a rally thats a threeword statement, the general public likes itnd it helpings his brand. But when it comes to details and law making, thats when he runs into problem. Just like in business, you didnt see a predominant amount of Business People supporting him during the campaign because they knew the details, much like other lawmakers. No. And i think as people become aware of the details on the big things they will. I dont think for example if he doesnt deliver a tax reform plan, i dont think a lot of voters are saying im looking for tax reform. Some of them that want the tax cut themselves themselves arent going to be about that. Health care matters. Most people have some sort of dissatisfaction with the way that health care is organized for them. Every one of his promises that he breaks is a political problem but a few of the big ones are. Once he gets a reputation for break those out of nowhere the president said hes going to send a man to mars. Off the cuff. Thats a new policy initiative. Thank you very much. We mentioned the lunch that President Trump is having with members of the u. N. Security council at the white house. Topping the agenda, new tension between the u. S. And north korea over the weekend the country detained another u. S. Citizen and now theyre threatening to sink a u. S. Aircraft carrier in the region. What we have said from the beginning is that the United States is not looking for a fight. So dont give us a reason to have one. Governor bill richardson, former governor of the state of new mexico, also the former u. S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Energy Secretary under president clinton. Ambassador, youre the perfect person to weigh in on this. What does the president need to say to members of the council, particularly russia and china to get them on board to some kind of unilateral policy toward north korea. First of all, this is a dig coup for nikki hallie, getting the Security Council in to see the president shows that she has access, she has political juice. What the president needs to do, i think, is convince russia and china of a potential sanction against north korea should north korea test another missile or detonate another nuclear weapon, which they probably will tomorrow when they observe the Korean People army ceremonies, which is the biggest entity in north korea. And i think what the president needs to do is convince russia and china not to beat the law, strong resolution perhaps that puts banking sanctions, targets the leadership in north korea. China is the key. They reduce coal experts but have not cut them down completely. Oil exports, banking as i mentioned. For the Security Council, they should press the president to realize how valuable the United Nations is. Because the president has said he wants to cut funding for the u. N. I think its up to 30 . So both sides can benefit from such a meeting. In terms of a coup, do you think something will come out of this . The president actually specializes in doing these meetings, these sitdowns, they make for good foe foe opportunities and hes said hes had great meetings with foreign leaders and they look good but we havent seen much of of it out of them. Do you think there will be an actual taaway . We may know this week when the Security Council meets after north korea takes some kind of action, which i expect they will. We will see whether russia or china veto the other two counties, france and britain should be with us on any vote. But it depends a lot to be seen. I think the only downside, i think this is a very good issue for nikki haley, good access as i mentioned. You dont want to eclipse the secretary of state. This is unprecedented. I was u. N. Ambassador. I couldnt have pulled that off to bring the Security Council member to meet with the president. The good thing with me is that president clinton liked the u. N. And liked to come to the u. N. So we didnt have to bring them to washington. You dont want to eclipse the secretary of state. I dont know if hes going to be president or how the state department will react. But the u. N. Ambassadorship is subservient to the secretary of state. The state department. You dont want them to get a little of their feathers ruffled. I dont know. They may have discussed this. But nikki haley is guiding a path for herself of at least a lot of visibility. Well this president is certainly a bird of a different feather. Were living in a whole different world. I appreciate your time. From the b2 to the upcoming b21, Northrop Grumman stealth bombers give america an advantage in a turbulent world. And were looking for a few dreamers to join us. Welcome back. Youre watching msnbc where were keeping a close eye on wall street and the historic election in france. U. S. Stocks are up sharply in the first hour of trading. The dow, nasdaq and s p are up by mar than 1 . All three are now positive for the month. This is a relief rally with investors encouraged by the first round of voting in france. Market favorite emanuel mama macron will square off with marie le pen. I want to get the latest on this election. Nbcs matt bradley joins us from paris. Matt, this is frances biggest political shakeup in decades. Walk us through it. Reporter the french indeed woke up to an unusual site. The two main Political Parties within one that has been with the french people since world war ii were sidelined and two outsider wills be running in two week frs the runoff residency. But here in france, america and throughout europe, old political assumptions are being upended. As President Donald Trump approaches his 100th day, france is experiencing its own political upset. Last night Marine Le Pen and emanuel macron clinched their spots in the second round of frances election. Shes a far right. Translator we are experiencing the end of one world and the bert of another. Hes a proeu centrist. Europes lurch away from the mainstream didnt start here in france. Last nights result was just the latest political tremor to shake the continent. The far right has been quick to take advantage of the backlash against politics as usual. Last year when britons voted to leave the eu, nigel farage all but took personal credit for the result. He appeared at a Mississippi Campaign stop with trump. Then in december in austria, the far right came within striking distance of the presidency. In the netherlands, this party was the second largest in Parliament Last month. And pop yu Parliament Last month. And pop ylists in germany will challenge Angela Merkel this september. Theyre erasing the old line between conservative and liberal. Our party has given up on the political categories which are categories of the 21st century. Most share a few traits. Theyre antifree trade, antiimmigrant and antiislam and theyre taking a wrecking ball to establishment politics. Le pen proposed a grand alternative. Translator its time to liberate the french people from the arrogant elites who want to dictate their behavior. She may be the favorite to win the runoff in two weeks. Across the atlantic and europe, le pens style of populism may be here to stay. Reporter thats right. You can expect to see some blistering campaigning here over the next two weeks ahead of the roundoff on may 7th. But one thing youre going to have to look for is the mar again by which macron wins. That will determine his mandate Going Forward. With le pen in the race, the pando pandoras box is open and her supporters are going to demand satisfaction once macron becomes president. Im joining now by our political seen your correspondent Michael Crawley and my panel is back with me. Michael, lets start with you. What are you looking for in the leadup to the Runoff Election . One big question is external events shock to the system. Will there be more terrorism in paris, elsewhere in france, europe. You know le pen is trailing badly in the polls. The expectation is that she will be soundly defeated by me anal s analcies. Nobody thought trump could win. Shes in a deeper hole but are we going to see shock to the system and some kind of isis attack that might lend more energy to her argument that france has to close its borders, throw out anybody on a terrorism watch list and really fire up the populist antiimmigrants nationalist voters that shes counting on. Seeing that President Trump basically stopped just short of endorsing le pen, seeing that she is in a hole needs a big leap to take this, do you think we could see any more out of the president pushing even further . And does it make a difference to french voters . Yeah, you know, interestingly i think it could actually hurt le pen. Shes not rushed to embrace trump. Shes cautious about way she talked about him on the campaign trail. Shes criticized him, made fun of him for flip flopping on the syrian strikes, becoming more of an internationalist rhetorically. So whats interesting about what trump is saying is not how it will affect the french election. Im not sure it would help her. Its what it reveals about trums inking. Its been disheartening to internationalists to see trump saying favorable things about le pen because they were hearing from elsewhere niz H Administration and his own mouth more traditional rhetoric about europe, the eu, nato. And his talk about le pen pretty clearly showed his hand and deflated a lot of people donald trump is still the same donald trump from the campaign except that he has a team around his trying to steer him in a different direction. He said over the weekend while he was on thement campaign he didnt know that much about nato and how it worked. Josh, i want you to put into context for us the market rallying so much is much more about macron than it is le pen. Yeah, macron is ahead by 30 points in this polls. So after hillary lost and we all expected her to win people want to look at these things and be like who knows. But it was still within the margin of error. The National Polls were off by about 1 or 2 points. They had her ahead by 4. These polls have le pen trailing by 30. The markets are rising. This is like if Mike Bloomberg became president. A background in banking. People talk about this as a rejection of the mainstream and its true that macron is not in one of the Political Parties in france but this is very much the proeu centrist policy establishment. Policy status quo. Does not mean great disruption or pulling france out of the euro as Marine Le Pen talked about doing. The french markets like that because it means stability and were not going to have big negative disruptions in the economy. I do think there is a big generalization here we can make. Tip oneill used to say all politics is local. And right now all politics is global. Because even if they didnt go in a nationalists direction, it is clear that they rejected the establishment there and theres a big antiestablishment wave going across global politics. And of course people in america are ive never seen anyone pay this much attention to a french election. A lot of people are breathing a sigh of relief that someone who was trumpesque, actually sitting down be Vladimir Putin and soliciting his help in this election that she was unable to succeed in this election. Were going to take a break. Thank you. When we come back, were going to go from france right back here to the United States. Another boarding debacle. In the air caught on camera, this time involving a mother, a stroller and an American AirlinesFlight Attendant now suspended. That mothers attorney also the attorney for united passenger dr. Jack jones and Marcell Williams both convicted of separate murders in the 1990s. Arkansas would become the fist state in nearly two decades to execute two inmates on the same day. In new orleans, workers took down the first of forconfederate statues that will be removed. The workers wore bullet proof vests and riot helmets because of the death threats. Statue of robert e. Lee, Jefferson Davis are coming down. And and American AirlinesFlight Attendant has been suspended after an altercation with a passenger over a stroller. The sobbing mother seen here moments after witnesses say the Flight Attendant violently ripped a stroller away from this woman, accidentally hitting her and narrowly missing her child. American airlines later upgraded the woman and offered her a travel voucher. In a statement the Airlines Says theyre deeply sorry for the pain theyve caused. Joining me now, the attorney for the United Airlines passenger dr. David dao and i believe youre now representing this woman on American Airlines, correct . I am. This woman was carrying two young 16monthold twins in her arm, she had a backpack on, trying to put a stroller on to the plane when the Flight Attendant violently ripped it out of her arms. Then what . Then she saw how her one child who she was holding the otr child was already down. Was almost struck by this stroller. And that freaked her out. Because this is her baby. And so she was very, very affected, if you will, by the conduct of this flight attend t attendant. And you can actually on the video you know hear wailing. Thats how distraught she is. American put out a clear message saying theyre deeply sorry, put her on another flight, upgraded her. Is that enough . Im guessing no since shes retained you as a lawyer. I dont know where this will lead as far as litigation, if any goes. I think thats more important about the whole video is its another example that now that we have smartphones and people are videoing whats going on in their lives, in other peoples lives, that airlines are now seeing that Customer Service really needs to be improved. United saw that so much so that dr. Dao who i want to speak about now, oscar money yoz is not going to be the ceo anywhere. What happened . Hes under medical care and treatment. Thats hopefully going to work itself out. But importantly to mr. Munoz, his problems started with the first statement he made where he supported the employees, the way it was handled and then he said dr. Dao was belligerent and problematic when none of that was true. Final finally i assume his pr people sai mea culpa. That has more to do with why he may not be chairman than what occurred to dr. Dao. So since airlines have tens of thousands of employees, there are bad apples in there or people can have a bad day. What should the airlines do going paramount. People do have smartphones everywhere. What do you want these airlines to do Going Forward . They dont want a Flight Attendant from hell to take their airlines down and they dont ever want a passenger to have an experience like that. Its basic training of the employees, were in a people business. We need good Customer Service. No. Is the passenger always right . No. We know that. But nevertheless, weve taken the passengers money, okay, we now need to treat them like we want them to come back and fly with us again. And so good negotiation skills on the part of a Flight Attendant on how to handle a lady who may not even have understood shes from argentina. She may not have understood the whole stroller issue. Theres got to be a way where airlines understand now, Customer Service is important. And united has done that by stating that the higher echelon executives at united will now be compensated based upon Customer Service results. Thank you so much for joining us this morning. And we do send our best to both this woman and dr. Dao. Thank you. Weve got to take a break. I think what we are starting to need now is more the hope, the fight, we need our new obama. And i think that is what were all look for. We need a new us. We need a new democracy within which people operate without a grand leader. Are you hopeful . Are you hopeful for the future . I am. You seem not so sure. I need to be hopeful, i need to be hopeful for my daughter, for all of us. I am hopeful in what ive seen that we can do. As long as we still live in a country where our voices are docume counted and where we can make change. And were still in that country. Im not hopeful about this presidency and im not hopeful about our leadership. Including democratic leadership . Democratic, republican, across the board. I am hopeful, however, about the power of democracy and democratic spirit and the power of resistance. Who was it that said im not optimistic, but im a prisoner of hope. Hard to not be hopeful, but i also think that we all have this very heartfelt in our blood relationship to what we think this country is. And what we think democracy is. That makes me hopeful that people will respond because they love what america was trying to do from its birth. And msnbc will be talking to a whole range of people including trump voters in michigan mitch tomorrow. But i thought one of the really interesting things is you hear echos of republicans and their frustration with washington and the feeling now after all these marches and these new communities that are being built that they are going to have to move forward no matter what is going on in washington, that they will take charge. Liz, what is your reaction . Democrats are universally angry. Weve seen all these marches. But just last week tom perez sitting next to Bernie Sanders and bernie saying nope, im not a democrat. Yeah. And not only that, one thing that was sort of troubling to me was on friday, we saw tom perez come out and say we will only support candidates who are prochoice. And im a very prochoice woman, but ive also worked in a lot of red states, west virginia, kentucky, south dakota, missouri. I could rattle off a list. And the crux of a 50 state strategy is trusting the grass roots of the party and local leadership to picture best leaders for their areas. And they wont aays agree with people like me who are from new york city. And my concern is that if we impose these purchas purity tes we will purify ourselves in to irrelevance and purify our party to the point where we can only win elections in states that touch saltwater. And i think that is not the path forward for democrats. And i say that as a very prochoice woman. So that was a concern. One other thing i would say that was very important is the woman who said the need for democrats to have an aspirational positive vision and not just respond in the negative to everything donald trump does, and that was something that a lot of people would say was missing in the 2016 election.
