Thats just you know, thats a criminal offense. And, you know, you cant let that happen. Thats a big risk to you and to ryan. Your lawyer. So, look, all i want to do is this, i just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state, and flipping the state is a great testament to our country. Now, these revelations are adding fuel to a political battlefield in georgia hours before two key Runoff Elections that will decide which Party Controls the senate. The stakes are so high tomorrow, that President Trump and president elect joe biden are both campaigning there today. Right now, it is the allies of the president on the hill that are threatening to object to the certification of key Electoral College votes when a joint session meets wednesday to cement joe bidens victory. The political maneuvering is dividing republicans at the least and exposing major fault lines in the party, but any way you slice it, and this is incredibly important, there are more than enough Senate Republicans opposing these plans to block them from overturning the results of the president ial election. With joe biden being sworn in on january 20th. There are a lot of developments here, and we have a great team of reporters following all the latest developments. Monica alaba is covba is coveri white house. Garrett haake is on capitol hill. Blayne alexander is in georgia, the center of the political fire storm where two key races will be decided tomorrow. Also with us with New York Times congressional reporter. Garrett, we have breaking news in the last hour or so. Ted lu and Kathleen Rice of new york sending a letter to fbi director chris wray to open an investigation into the latest phone call by the president. Talk us through what you know, garrett. Reporter this letter to Christopher Wray went out earlier this morning. We know these members are saying that the president , they believe, broke federal law, and it falls on the fbi to investigate this case here. This is not theres not total agreement among democrats about what to do with this phone call. This dropped yesterday afternoon. Democrats were shocked by it. They were appalled by it. But what kind of action needs to be taken here is very much an open question. You have everything from lu and rice sending this letter to the fbi, saying this is a criminal matter and should be investigated as such. Ive heard the same from some democratic senators. Theres also been this floated talk about maybe there should be another impeachment or censure or other house action. I just came from a press conference with jeffries, the Democratic Caucus chairman, and i asked him about this. He said, look, were moving forward. Joe biden is going to be president of the United States in 16 days. Essentially said the house isnt going to address this in a way like impeachment. This is behind them. Theyre trying to move past President Trump in this way, which i found somewhat surprising. It does speak to the way the president has divided, frankly, both parties in their approach to him and how to move on from him. Yeah, were going to talk about the future of both parties in a moment. Monica, i want to get to you on this one and stick with the phone call weve been talking about all morning. 18. That is the number of times, monica, that the white house switchboard has reecached out t the secretary of state over the last two months, wanting to have a conversation with him. They finally did. That happened on saturday. The secretary of georgia is now commenting on that. I want to play a bit of the phone call sorry a bit of his comments on that. I believe that because i had a conversation with the president , also he had conversation with our chief investigator, after we did the signature batch audit of the county last week, there may be a conflict of interest. I understand the Fulton County district states attorney waatt at it. Maybe thats the appropriate venue for it to go. Essentially saying there could be a conflict of interest. What is the white house saying to that . How are they responding . Reporter yeah, yasmin. Brad raffensperger is a longtime republican who voted for donald trump. When asked if he would do so again in any future, potential race, he suggested he might. That underscores the incredible nature of this more than hourlong phone call. To your question about how the white house is responding, we havent gotten anything specifically on this audio recording. The president is just continuing to tweet this morning his more general, baseless claims of voter fraud, and continues to repeat these really unsubstantiated and debunked conspiracy theories, not just about georgia, which, by the way, has certified their Election Results for president elect joe biden several times, but for other battleground states. We did hear the president earlier today indicating that all of this was going to be on display tonight when he travels to the peach state, to really, in effect, have these speeches for these candidates, republicans that are in these heated runoff races tomorrow. As weve seen in many of these occasions before, when the president goes to stump for other candidates, he typically takes the opportunity to really just speak about himself. I think thats probably a major preview of what we can expect tonight, worrying some republicans, potentially, that if the president continues to make these claims of fraud, again, for which there is no evidence, that some Republican Voters in georgia might not want to turn out in person tomorrow. The gop is relying on inperson vote in order to be successful at all there potentially tomorrow. So nothing officially from the white house. I think our first major acknowledgment of this will come later this evening. Of course, the president doesnt deny in any way this phone call took place. The fact we have a full recording that all viewers and listeners can take in and make up their minds for themselves means that the white house cant really push back on this in any real or legitimate fashion, yasmin. You mentioned how the secretary of state is a republican. There was a moment in the phone call, if you read through the entire transcript, when the president addresses that and says, brad, youre a republican on this, as if the secretary of state should cowtail to the president because, in fact, he is republican and of the same party. Blayne, i want to bring you into the conversation. The question is simple, what kind of pressure does this put on the georgia races tomorrow . Reporter you know, for a number of top republicans, it really puts them in a position theyd rather not be in. The fact we are talking about this phone call less than 24 hours before polls are set to open tomorrow is something that republicans would rather not deal with. As monica said, its really important that they have turnout numbers on election day in order to win these two races. Let me kind of give you a lay of the land here in georgia. Weve already seen record turnout when it comes to early voting numbers. More than 3 Million People have already cast their ballots. You know, what we do know is when it comes to the majority of those, a lot of them are either in a strongly democratic area, or they are disproportionately voters of color or younger voters. People who, of course, tend to lean democratic. So republicans are really looking at that day of voter turnout in order to boost their numbers. Now, as for the candidates, senator Kelly Loeffler and david perdue, theyve been aligning themselves with President Trump and are saying, essentially what he said in the phone call isnt different from what hes been saying the past few months, again, repeating the unfounded claims of Election Fraud, saying there needs to be another look in georgia. Heres what the senators had to say. I dont think it is going to affect our election. What the president said in this tape today is no different than what hes been saying for the last two months. Senator loeffler, what do you make of this . Raffensperger reporter so you heard there in the last clip senator Kelly Loeffler ignoring questions from nbc news as well as cbs as well as other reporters at the Campaign Stop yesterday. She said separately in an appearance on fox news, though, she did acknowledge the fact that it is important that she said both republicans and democrats need to be confident in the process and be confident that votes will be counted. So it really underscores this kind of conflict that republicans have, not just today, not just on the heels of this phone call, yasmin, but really for the weeks leading up to these very Important Senate races. Because at the same time, youve seen President Trump repeatedly attacking the secretary of state, attacking the solidity of the validity of the Georgia Elections, of the governor, saying the election was rigged. Many republicans worry that could depress the turnout they need to win these races. Is there any reaction on the ground there, blayne, in speaking with some voters per this phone call that was released yesterday . Reporter yeah. It depends, certainly, on where you go. Some of our nbc team was at some of the republican events yesterday, and they said they agreed with President Trump in what he had to say. Again, drawing doubt on the election, saying they believed that there were other votes out there. Saying they believe the president did win this election. Again, it bears repeating, it is not the case. These Election Results were certified and counted three times, all showing joe biden won. Some voters say they certain ll side with that call. When you speak to democrats, ive spoken to democrats after the call and the last few weeks, they say two things. One, theyre focused on getting their singular message out, getting voters, knocking on doors, making sure people turn out. When it comes to what they call distractions from the Republican Party and the infighting, they say its been nothing but helpful when it comes to improving their chances tomorrow. Garrett, we know where the democrats stand, right . We know where ted lu and Kathleen Rice stands. We talked about that at the top. What about republicans when it comes to reactions to this phone call breaking over the weekend. Reporter republicans have gotten pretty good at not reaction not reacting to outlandish things that the president says. They kind of lump them all in the category of, this is just how he talks. Senator kevin cramer, republican from north dakota, pretty well encans la encapsulated what weve seen of the republican reaction so far, which has been limited. Heres what he told cnbc earlier today. I listened to all 62 minutes of it last night. It sounded familiar to me because ive had a lot of fopho calls with the president. He is a strong, dominating personality, as we know, and pretty much everybody else thats in the room or on the phone is much more timid. That said, i, frankly, dont find the offense that a lot of people see in it. When you listen to all 62 minutes. Reporter hes pretty close to the trump ally camp on capitol hill and the Senate Republican conference. Hes not objecting to the Electoral College process, for example, but he is kind of more on the trump scale side of the party than not. But i think those comments are pretty reflective. They will acknowledge that the president said this. Theyll say it sort of sounds like the things he says all the time. I suspect we will see them trying to move on. If youre waiting for broadbased condemnation of this phone call from republican senators, dont hold your breath, would be my advice. Modus operandi for the last four years or so. Garrett, you have the republicans allies in washington saying theyre going to block the certification of the Election Results come went wep wednesday, but its not overturning the election. Joe biden is still going to be inaugurated as president of the United States on january 20th. My question is, whats the point . Reporter well, i think its important to clarify, theyre going to try to block the electoral count. They know, as well as you and i do, as well as anyone else might, that they will fail, right . I think thats important to consider here in this context. This is not an effort in which republican lawmakers can whip up more votes or run out the clock or find some effort to hurdle it. It appeals to the president who has a long memory, in terms of his enemies and allies. Weve seen that with him tweeting at some lawmakers hes calling the vesurrender kau kic for not appealing to him on the floor. More importantly, it appeals to the president s voters, who some republicans think they owe for getting them their jobs. Four senators will join in objecting to the Election Results. You have people with primaries in 2022 or perhaps have their eye on the white house themselves, trying to curry favor with the president and with his voters by showing that they will continue to fight. That has been the operative way in which republicans in congress have chosen to handle themselves over the last couple years, fight, fight, fight, even when you know the fight will ultimately get you nowhere. It gets you on conservative television and in the president s good graces. So, luke, i want to bring you into the conversation here. Because a lot of republicans in the senate are also reacting to the blocking of the certification results, and senator Lisa Murkowski saying that courts and states have found, quote, nothing to warrant overturning the results. Mitt romney saying it dangerously threatens our democratic republic. Pat toomey says, quote, allegations of fraud by a losing campaign cannot justify overturning an election. This is creating the efforts of ted cruz, of hawley, is creating a major divide in the Republican Party. Going all the way up to Mitch Mcconnell. Talk us through that. Yeah. Absolutely. I think the audio that you everyone heard yesterday actually helps Mitch Mcconnell and the sort of more Establishment Republicans or the factbased republicans. Because you heard very clearly how President Trumps claims, one by one, were debunked by the Georgia Election officials. No, mr. President , there werent thousands of dead people. We looked into that. It didnt check out. No, mr. President , that water leak that you think people snuck in thousands of votes in the middle of the night, that didnt happen the way you believe it did. No, mr. President , machines werent removed in the middle of the night. So i do think once, you know, all these things have been dismissed in court repeatedly, in 60 different courts, and state Election Officials across the country have repeatedly debunked the false claims, but now theres audio for people to hear for themselves. You know, the rumors being debunked very calmly and reasonably by fellow republicans who actually checked into this. So i do think it puts more pressure on those in the senate and in the house that are continuing to perpetuate these myths and fictions on behalf of the president to gain favor with his base. The facts arent on their side, and everyone can clearly hear that. I want to talk about the efforts of the texas congressman, which i think is sbe interesting. Ill read his tweet. He says, today i objected from the seating of arizona, nevada, pennsylvania, wisconsin. It would confound reason if the president ial results of these states were to face objection while the congressional results of the same process escaped public scrutiny. This really helps change the landscape, it seems, of the certification of the results, come wednesday, luke. Absolutely. I mean, it exposes very clearly the complete logical inconsistency of saying, well, we won all these house races in the states, but the elections were fraudulent nevertheless. It is important to note that chip roy, who is doing this, is a very conservative member of the house. This isnt a centrist or moderate. This is someone who, you know, holds really deep, deep conservative values. Hes also based in the factbased realm. Hes not going to go along with just any fantasy that the president wants to promote, just to, you know, win his favor and win the favor of his base. Thats what a lot of what were seeing, is people who want to gain curry, gain favor with that base in the future elections. Luke, before we go, you know, were seeing so much fracture in the Republican Party right now. So much divide inside the Republican Party. I know much of this next question depends on what happens tomorrow in the state of georgia. You listen to Mitch Mcconnell, right, who said in this phone call with republican senators that the vote that he is going to have on wednesday will be one of the most consequential of his lifetime. The most consequential of his career. What does this mean for a Republican Party under a Biden Administration . Well, it does show how deeply divided the party is. I mean, for years, Mitch Mcconnell has been able to keep his caucus in line. And thats a very important thing for the leader. So if he cant keep them in line on this, what else will they break with him on . What else will they go out in Different Directions on when trump tweets when hes out of office and commands this or that or criticizes this or that policy from the Biden Administration . So it does, i think, make leader mcconnells job more difficult, and it does, i think, you know, make it more difficult, perhaps, for president elect biden to cut deals with the senate and Senate Republicans once he gets into office. It is a much different washington than it was the last time president elect biden was there. Monica, garrett, blayne, luke, thank you all. A final push to try to get democrats to control the senate. Its the third vaccine that has been rolled out to the public to stop the spread of the virus there. Nbcs Erin Mclaughlin is outside of a hospital in los angeles. Nbc news Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel is in lon ddon fo us. Erin, the situation in california is dire. Theyre having to choose who to care for and who not to care for. Think about it, every 6 seconds is astounding and frankly depressing to hear about. Talk me through what activating crisis care standards neemeans. Reporter an official in Los Angeles County say they have the plans in place. They havent had to activate those plans just yet, but they are literally a surge away, according to the chief medical hospital officer of the largest county hospital here in Southern California. He said that they are a surge away from the system completely collapsing, which is why this next week is going to be so critical. Because this is the week they expect to see any cases out of the christmas holiday. People gathering with their friends and family, ignoring the rules, and spreading the virus. This is when we should be seeing those numbers in l. A. County over the next five days, that will determine the course of this Health Care System. Crisis of care mode essentially means theyre going to have to ration care. Different hospitals in the area all have different plans. Theres no uniform plan in place. The public hospitals, they say theyre trying to stay away from mathematical models. Theyre trying to do the most for the most patients. We were speaking to one hospital in the area. They were saying that one doctors are going to rank patients based on whether or not they would benefit the most from intensive treatment. From there, the ranking then would go to a committee. The committee would make the decision, not the families. Already here, we are seeing health care being impacted. We were speaking to the family of eduardo rojas, 50 years old. He landed in the icu with a severe case of covid19. Hes now out of the icu and should be going to the rehabilitation center. The family wants him home instead. Take a listen. I would rather have him, you know, come home, and i can take time off of work and take care of him. So its just the reality right now. Theres so many people infected with covid, that these places, you know, the Rehab Centers dont have enough staff to really take care of all these patients. Reporter what happened to the rojas family is really indicative of the kind of transmission that is so problematic here in los angeles right now. It started with eduardos brother and then spread like wildlife through the family. Eight family members sick. Eduardo the only one landing in the icu. It is a cautionary tale and something Officials Say has to stop in order for the Health Care System to be restored in the area. Yasmin . Are you hearing from mayor garcetti, thats what i heard from the head of the fieldhouse in rhode island when i was reporting there a couple weeks ago. She feared that with the development of these vaccines, so many people were going to let their guards down, knowing that in the future, they were going to be able to get the vaccine. We have to stay guarded because this, as erin is reporting, virus is very much still out there. Richard, talking about the vaccines, astrazeneca, wow, now going into the arms of folks in the uk. Talk us through this. Specifically the differences between astrazeneca, moderna, and pfizer. Reporter so the rollout began today for the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine. I was at a hospital not long ago where they were giving out the vaccine. I was watching it happen. It is still a fairly slow process. Officials are hopeful that it is going to ramp up quite quickly from here. Theyre talking about tens of millions of doses of the oxford vaccine given over the next several weeks. It is a very different vaccine from the other two, in that it is easier to handle. Its inexpensive to produce. It doesnt need very cold or ultra cold temperatures. It can be kept at fridge temperatures. Frankly, over the last month or so, if you remember the uk was the First Western country to start rolling out the pfizer vaccine, officials here have been struggling with it. Ive watched nurses and doctors act very intimidated around the pfizer vaccine. They didnt know how to move it. They were afraid it was going to expire. They would take it out of the fridge to let it thaw, and then the countdown would begin when you would have to administer it. This vaccine, much easier to transport. That makes it much easier to give. I spoke to the head nurse at a hospital that i went this morning, one of the first in this country to start administering the oxford vaccine. The benefits of the oxford vaccine has been launched today across the uk, it is much easier to be able to store. It is much easier to handle. It makes it much more accessible to many more members of the population and also to our health care staff. Reporter but there is still a very, very serious situation here. In fact, it may be the worst that its ever been. Numbers are continuing to rise. There is a uk strain that is now dominant. A few months ago, it was believed to be a minor variation of the virus. Now, it is the majority of the virus in this country at least. It spreads very quickly. Recent study said the uk variant spreads 40 to 70 more quickly than the normal covid weve gotten used to. Doesnt seem to be more lethal, more impactful, but spreads more quickly. That is why, just in a few hours from now, the prime minister, boris johnson, is going to give an address and is expected to further tighten restrictions here. This country is already in an almost full lockdown with london and many other parts of the country in a high tier. There is a tier system here, similar to a colors coded system that other countries are using. The higher you are in the tier, the more restrictions there are. We think that it is going to get even tighter in a few hours, despite the fact that theyre rolling out this new weapon in the fight against covid. Youre talking about the variant. 70 more transmissable than covid at this point. Now being confirmed in the United States just in the last week, in states like colorado and california. Who knows where else it is at this point. Erin mclaughlin and Richard Engel, thank you, both. Appreciate it. Long lines, not enough doses, and crashing websites. A stunning headline in florida this morning illustrates the urgent concerns were seeing with vaccine rollout across the country. According to the Daytona Beach news journal, hundreds of seniors lined up outside of daytona stadium for hours, hoping to get their first shots of the vaccine. Some had been there as early as friday, but by 6 00 a. M. , three hours before it was set to open, the site had already reached capacity. Only 1,000 vaccines were available, and were seeing frustrating setbacks in other states, as well. I want to bring in dr. Baa deed expert at the school of medicine and an msnbc contributor. Thank you for joining us on this. Appreciate it. Before we get into all this, i want you to comment on the report i got from Richard Engel earlier. Not sure if you were listening to that, but talking about astrazeneca. We know moderna and pfizer, they have emergency authorization approval in this country, being administered at this point to americans. From what im understanding and what were hearing, astrazeneca cannot even get close to approval until april. What is the breakdown there . Yasmin, i think the concern for the fda comes from the fact that in astrazenecas phrase three trial, the one that was conducted in the uk and brazil, there was some questions. Some of the participants got half the dose for the first dose of the two they received. Thats the arm that showed better efficacy. They wanted more details on that. So they wanted to actually wait and see what the u. S. Phase three trials show, currently undergoing in 2,000 people and still recruiting, to see the results before approving. My thought is that if the data comes through, skpeand even if astrazeneca candidate is not as effective it was known to be 70 efficacious compared to over 90 for the moderna and pfizer, it is still likely to be really helpful for the reasons richard talked about. It is stable, easy to handle. Its the tech nollnolonology we the past and maybe more acceptable to people cautious about the messenger rna. Itll be awhile before it is approved for use. We have all these vaccines approved, right, maybe some april. Were not getting into the arms of americans that desperately need it. 4 Million People in this country have been vaccinated at this point. It should have been 20 million. 14 million vaccines have been distributed. That is a huge breakdown. Is this what we see happening because there was not a national plan, a federal response, a federal plan in order to get people vaccinated, to get shots in the arms of the people that need it most . Yeah. N yasmin, there were a few barriers, but i think the lack of a coordinated, national plan, of how to cover that last mile. Sure, we got the vaccines. We got them to the states. You know, when it got to the states, you now have this responsibility falling on overwhelmed, underfunded, understaffed, Public Health offices at state and Community Levels that basically have been decimated because of all the work theyve been doing over the last year or so with this pandemic, and hospitals and pharmacies so far. So youve had states all reinventing the wheel and scrambling. If you had a much stronger, National Strategy with more resources behind it and better capacity to sort of cover those challenges in the last mile, it certainly would have made a huge difference. The trouble, of course, is that right now, it doesnt seem to be the doses, the number of doses that are distributed. As you said, only 1 3 of the doses that have been distributed have been administered. Its getting those resources to the administration sites. Eventually, it is going to be the number of doses available thats going to be a challenge, as well. To get as many americans, you know, vaccinated as possible, for us to reach vaccineinduced herd community. On the ground, there is confusion on how to listen to. I was speaking to my inlaws in florida. Theyre 70 years of age, on the cusp of 75. Hopefully theyre okay with me sharing their age. But the guidance, who do you listen to . Your local hospitals, doctors, the cdc . How do you know when to show up and where to show up . There doesnt seem to be a universal guidance as to who is being administered these vaccines right now. Thats why were seeing lines out the door, you know, websites crashing, phone calls being made in order to get on a list to get the vaccine when people dont have the resources to administer them. Yeah. Yasmin, some of the confusion is coming from the fact that, you know, the cdc at the federal level, the Cdc Advisory Committee for immunization practices, they put guidelines out. Most states took some of the cdc guidance but adapted it to their local realities. For example, florida moved forward people over 65 earlier than, you know, some of the essential workers and other groups. Thats where part soft cof the confusion comes from. States have taken slightly different paths. If you had more resources in terms of general vaccine education at the federal level, you know, why arent the airways filled with more education about the vaccine from the federal government, right . Part of it is because the money that was supposed to be put behind advertising the safety and what the vaccination drives are hasnt come through. Hopefully, well see more of it. The other is at the state level, because every state has taken a slightly different route, i think the best advice that id give people is to listen both to their physicians but also to their state departments of Public Health. That is where the decisions are being made in terms of what groups should be getting vaccines where. Quickly, before i let you go, the head of operation warp speed, he said sunday that Health Officials are considering giving two half doses of the Moderna Vaccine as a way to accelerate vaccinations. What do you think of this . Yasmin, this comes from a lot of discussion over the last week, as you know, about the fact that uk is delaying the time between doses to try to get as many first doses into people. Theres a lot of discussion in my field about whether thats, you know, the right strategy. These are all hard tradeoffs and discussions. There is benefit if you get more people vaccinated, but there is no evidence from the evidence in trial trials. The half dose is an interesting proposal. What we need is more data from moderna to see if half doses provide the same protection, before we take it as a strategy. Hopefully we have the data ready by the time we fix our distribution and administration issues. Its amazing. Its the same story in the beginning as it is now, which is theres still so much we dont know. Dr. Bhadelia, good to see you. Happy new years. Coming up, everybody, breaking news in the uk. In a couple hours, well hear from president elect joe biden for the First Time Since the Washington Post reported President Trump told the georgia secretary of state, quote, i just want to find 1 1 just want to find 1 1,780 votes. Biden will be in georgia to campaign for the two Democratic Candidates in tomorrows Senate Runoff races. When it comes to this story so far, we have not heard a word from joe biden. Not a tweet. Not a statement. Nbcs mike memoli is in atlanta ahead of bidens Campaign Stop. Good to see you. Thank you for joining us on this. Reporter morning. The question is, will he talk about it, and what will he say . Reporter well, yasmin, the last time joe biden was here in georgia campaigning for those two Democratic Senate hopefuls, he said it was time to put the angry and bitter politics of division behind us. Weve really seen that from biden, trying to follow up on that promise he made to lower the political temperature. I wouldnt be surprised if thats part of his message today. But that audio tape, that was a wow. We have gotten some strong reaction, both from bob bauer, a top lawyer for the biden team. He said this captures the disgraceful story of Donald Trumps assault on democracy, as he put it. We also heard from Vice President elect kamala harris, also on the campaign trail here in georgia. Take a listen to what she had to say. Have yall heard about the recorded conversation . It was a boldfaced, bold abuse of power by the president of the United States. Reporter based on his tweets, yasmin, i think we can bet that donald trump will certainly raise this when he comes here to georgia to campaign tonight. Think about where were going to see the candidates. I think it says everything about the political strategy at this point. Donald trump, about 90 miles north of here in a deeply, deeply republican part of the state. He needs to make sure that the turnout among his base conservatives really does catch up with the Early Head Start that democrats have in early voting. Biden here to try to make sure we dont see what we saw in so many states during the Fall Campaign heading into november, which was really good numbers in early voting, but not enough in some places to keep up with that strong day of voting. Certainly, the developments over the last 24 hours have a real potential to inflame both sides and keep the turnout, already a record here for Runoff Elections, strong heading into tomorrow, yasmin. Mike memoli, my friend, thank you. Well be watching very closely. Reporter thank you. More than 3 million georgia voters already cast their ballots. The big day in the Senate Runoffs is tomorrow. Im going to talk to the cofounder of black voter mats matter on how the group is working to turn out votes. Clearly, velveeta melts creamier. Maria had to do everything for me. More than 3 Million People in georgia have already voted in tomorrows two Senate Runoff elections. These races are going to determine which Party Controls the senate. One side of the interest in the runoffs, more than 112,000 of those early voters didnt vote in the 2020 election. Latasha brown is with us. Good morning. Good to see you. Good morning. The New York Times writes this about your efforts. You knocked on 2 million doors in georgia and asked two questions. Are you registered to vote and is everybody in your house registered to vote . What were some of the responses that you got in your efforts . Part of what we had to do on those questions and some of the other questions, what are the things you care about, what do you want to see thats different . Do you know that you have power . As we were talking to people all around the states, we work with over 60 partners in this election cycle in 50 counties throughout the state of georgia. Weve been going on the ground, talking to people, what is it that they care about, what will motivate them and are they registered, to connect their power to how they can bring about change. Folks in georgia are frustrated, 4 Million People unemployed. People want to see different change. They want to see a different kind of leadership that are responsive to the people of georgia. 112,000 voters who did not vote in the 2020 election. That is amazing. Of that total, 30 are between the ages of 18 to 29 and 40 are black. Are you meeting voters while you guys are out there that did not vote in november that are making sure to vote this time around . Absolutely. What we are seeing is that people know what is at stake. Normally in a general election, especially in a president ial election, georgia has been known to be a red state for so long. There were those that didnt believe the state was actually going to flip. But now, we know these two seats will determine what parties really control the gender going forward. People in the state are really seeing why its relevant. Why this means not just relevance to the nation, but relevance to the people of georgia. Can we talk about this phone call that broke over the weekend . Are you hearing from voters on it . What is their reaction . Ive been getting Text Messages and phone calls all morning. Today a woman called me said she was taking off work because she was so upset about that phone call. She was taking off work so she could reach out and volunteer. We complain about trump, the truth of the matter is the Republican Party has been complicit. Part of the reason trump is frustrated is because georgia has been ground zero for voter suppression. What hes saying is cant you steal the vote like you did before. It seems like hes not willing to cross over to put himself in jeopardy of going to jail. Thats not enough for donald trump. Its never enough for donald trump. Everything is about him. You think that reports of this phone call, the transcript of this phone call is going to motivate voters, specifically black voters to turn out before this Runoff Election . Absolutely. I know people who have been put in jail for trying to assist people in registering to vote. Trump is saying find the votes. Hes asking this is Election Fraud at its best, at its highest. And there are people who are frustrated. Theyre tired of not only truck, but republicans who have coddled him, empowered him and literally have sat there silent as he has done everything to unravel democracy. Latosha brown, thank you. Ill be back tomorrow at 11 00 a. M. Eastern. You can catch me on weekends from 3 00 to 5 00 p. M. Eastern. Up next, Andrea Mitchell with talk to very mant senator Bernie Sanders about what to expect when concert phis the Election Results this week. Thats after a quit break. Are you ok . Its just a cold. If you have high blood pressure, a cold is not just a cold. Most cold medicines may raise blood pressure. Choose coricidin hbp. The brand with a heart. For powerful cold relief without raising your blood pressure. Im Andrea Mitchell in washington where President Trumps refusal to accept the reality of his defeat is creating new levels of chaos after the release of his stunning onehour call to georgias republican secretary of state. So, look, all i want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes which is one more than we have because we won the state, and flipping the state is a great testament to our country. Throughout their call, secretary of state of Brad Raffensperger points out he personally oversaw three separate ballot counts verifying the biden win. Theres nothing wrong with saying, you know, that youve recalculated because the 2,236 in absentee ballots, theyre all exact numbers that were done by accounting firms, law
