Their own Close Encounters in the skies . Well dig into that as well in just a moment. But we start with Democratic Front runner joe biden facing backlash from members of his own party after praising his work from the 1970s with segregationist senators. The former Vice President arguing his work with Democratic SenatorsJames Eastland and her man tal imagine. Earlier in his career as an example as an ability and willingness to work across the ill with politicians that he strongly disadegrees with. Cory booker blasting the front runner calling on him to apologize. But biden not backing down. Apologize for what . Cory bookers called for it. Cory should apologize. He knows better. Theres not a racist bone in my body. Ive been involved in civil rights my whole career, period. Bidens democratic rivals, several of them pouncing. For his posture to be, to me, ive done nothing wrong, you should apologize, im not a racist is so insulting and so missing the larger point that he should not have to have explained to him. To coddle the reputations of segregationist, if people who had their way i would literally not be standing here as a member of the United States senate is, i think is just misinformed and its wrong. I dont think that you should be bragging about working on a bipartisan basis with segregationist. When you hear that from someone who wants to be the standard bearer of our party, it begs the question how on earth does he not understand what permanent feeling today . With me now nbc road warp yore garrett haake, eddy, an msnbc contributor, matt visor, National Political reporter for the Washington Post whos just written about this and claire mccaskill. Quite the esteemed panel. Thank you all for being with me on thursday. Mr. Haake, ill start with you. What, if anything, are we hearing from joe bidens campaign about this firestorm . Bidens advisers and allies on capitol hill have been defending him over the last 24 hours saying this is a willful misrepresentation of the point he was trying to make in this fundraiser that he would have to at times work with very odous people with whom he disagreed even in his own party to get things done. They see the way that other Democratic Candidates have responded to this as sort of a cynical attempt to punch up at the front runner. As they say, thats show biz, baby in the is politics, this is how this fight will go. But even as we speak, the House Speaker nancy pelosi has been defending joe biden. Take a listen. I think that authenticity is the most important characteristic that candidates have to convey to the american people. And joe biden is authentic. He has lived his life. He considers certain things a resource that he has worked across the aisle, thats what he was saying. So some air cover there from the speaker for joe biden. And, craig, think to the degree this has legs, it could come in that back and forth between joe biden and senator booker. Its not a great look for a white candidate to tell a black candidate what he should or should not be offended about on the issues of race. I dont have any indication that booker wants to continue this fight right now, but there say president ial debate next week, you may have heard. Yes, i have heard. More on that in just a moment and where you can watch that debate. But, matt, let me turn to you here because youve got some new reporting about bidens aides essentially telling the senator dont go there. Yeah. They had warned him ahead of time because this is an anecdote particularly with senator James Eastland that biden had told before. He had talked about his willingness to work with eastland and his advisers had suggested maybe picking a different senator to ill straig illustrate his point of bipartisan. There was this thing that he sort of knew this and senators stay away from talking about but he still did it. Theres some concern about that. There was some concern in his campaign that biden might joke about this in a way that he does at times to dispel controversy but only inflames it. He hasnt yet. Last night he had a fundraiser where he mentioned, again, working with these senators. But in perhaps a more appropriate way for democrats where he denounced their views even while saying that he was still able to work with them. Along with senator ted kennedy who certainly has had sort of love among democrats. Senator mccaskill, you know joe biden well. Youve worked with the senator there in the upper chamber. What do you make of this back and forth . First of all theyre both good friends of mine. Cory is one of my dear friends and so is joe. Lets get some context here. The things we really care about, immigration reform, the kind of criminal Justice Reform that we still need to reach for, climate change, you got to have 60 votes in the senate. End of discussion. You dont get 60 votes, were not getting big stuff done thats important to people that we care about because we cant get to 60 votes. Biden is trying to convey that he can work with really creepy, stinky people. And by the way, cory booker worked with Jeff Sessions and aoc is working with ted cruz. These are pretty stinky creepy people themselves, right . So i think that thats the point he was trying to make. But let me just say this. Big mistake to use those two guys as examples. Theres plenty of stinky, creepy people through history he could be useding to make the point that you can really fund by the way, he fought them and won on civil rights issues. Sure. He was a real advocate for the Voting Rights act and for civil rights legislation. So i think this is one of those deals where everyone is trying to get their moment on the tube and everyone is trying to theyre going to pick on joe biden. He deserves to be picked on because he shouldnt have picked these two guys as examples. But for those who have said in the past that joe biden is too old, that hes out of touch, does this give them another example to which to point . I dont think so. I mean, bernies older than than joe biden. How come nobody talks about that . I mean, ive never seen on my twitter feed bernie supporters saying, gosh, our guy is hell really too old. So its about who can convince the majority of the americans that we can do this, lead this country with dignity and without chaos. And i do think that joe needs to be very careful about using as an example of somebody he could work with somebody that is so offensive to so many people for all the right reasons. Professor, has the reaction to what joe biden said, has the reaction itself been a bit overblown . Not really, at least not from my advantage point. It seems to me as a native mississippian, James Eastland is not the kind of person you use as an example of bipartisanship. Eastland and his relationship to white citizens councils, his relationship to mississippi, that other space, how it was described in the 60s, as almost another country with all of its blood, all of its violence and terror, James Eastland was at the center of it. Its one thing to invoke bipartisan. Its another thing continue to invoke those figures. Thats the first thing. The second thing, lets take seriously the argument that he said he was making. That sometimes you have to work with odous people. Okay, fine. But what does it mean to say that you to work with someone like eastland or talmadge . Over the course of our history we have engaged with compromise around race. We have engaged in compromise coming out of reconstruction. We have engaged in compromise think about the new deal the the new deal, in order for it to pass they had to compromise with southern democrats. What did that mean . Itment that black people got cut out for much those policies. Fha laws and the like. The gi bill and the like. So as crow talk aboyou talk abo form of politics, im asking the question what are the payoffs and who has to bear the burden of the compromise . One way to read this controversy, craig, ill say this really quickly, is not to tar senator biden or Vice President biden with the label of being racist. One way to tackle this controversy is to tackle the idea of politics that hes presenting. This view has gotten us into trouble. It is what has gotten us into trouble up to now. We cannot terry with extremists. We cannot use them as examples of what bipartisan politics should look like. Thats my view. Heres the thing, professor. As you know, joe biden right now currently leading the pack with all democratic voters, especially black voters. And jim clyburn rushing to his defense. One of the first high profile politicians to come to joe bidens defense yesterday. Do we suspect that this is in any way, shape, form or fashion going to hurt joe biden specifically with africanamerican voters or is this something were not even talking about three days from now . Im not sure. Well have to see. I know on my twitter feed theres a lot of conversation. Theres a lot of murmuring. There is a sense in which joe bidens name recognition has carried him thus far. His relationship with barack obama has carried him thus far. But as we begin to drill down, as people ask what were the actual policies that you produced, not just simply the Voting Rights act and civil rights legislation that senator mccaskill just laid out, did they result in the war on drugs, what did you compromise and who had to barrett burden . When we begin to interrogate and ask those questions, we will see how this plays itself out. Senator, one of the things ive found striking over the last 24 hours, joe bidens response to the controversy not just by standing by what he said, but then saying senator booker owes me an apology. He should apologize to me. The response seemed a bit trumpian. Do we think that joe biden has decided to take a page from the president s playbook . I dont think i would go that far. And, by the way, cory was probably in a way that elevated cory and corys been talked about a whole lot today. Youre not suggesting that senator booker might be using this to his political advantage . I dont think hes using it, i think it is ennewering innure that he did that, i dont know it was smart for him to say cory booker should apologize to me or that it was appropriate. But i do think that joe biden has realized hes not going to get elected president unless he shows strength. I think he fundamentally believes he didnt say anything wrong because he was trying to make the point these guys were bad guys, but i still won. I still beat them. I still got the legislation across the finish line that i ran through the senate to try to get done. Senator mccac cass kill, thank you so much. Matt, thank you. Professor, thank you. Reminder we are less than a week out of the first 2020 debate in miami. Only on msnbc, nbc, and telemundo. So big its over two days. Now to that breaking news weve been following here. Breaking news in the standoff with iran. Word that a meeting is under way right now at the white house. Getting that word a few moments ago. This meeting at the white house coming after a u. S. Surveillance drone was shot down by iran overnight in what the United States is calling an unprovoked attack. Im joined by hans nichols. He is standing by at the white house. Courtney kube live for us there in United Arab Emirates and u. S. Nbc National Security analyst ned price a former security assistant to president obama on the security staff. Hans, ill start with you. Do we know who is at this meeting . We dont. We have some of the participants but we crucially, craig, do not know whether or not President Donald Trump is expected to come. We do know it was scheduled from 11 00 to 12 00. The acting defense secretary was scheduled to attend, patrick shanahan, as well as i had replacement. That will take place on sunday night. Mark esper was also scheduled to attend. Its important who attends these meetings and we need to get a better readout who is there and crucially if the president is there. If the president is there that makes this potentially a decisional meeting on how to respond. We heard from the president via twitter saying that iran made a big mistake. Weve heard from his allies on capitol hill. Clearly laying a legal predicate for some sort of response. Now we just have to see what the president is going to say. We expect to hear from him in the noon hour. And i think thats going to be a key moment as this conflict continues to escalate. Courtney, what more have we learned about how this drone attack went down . Well, we know, craig, that it was an iranian surface to air missile, thats what the u. S. Military is saying, and it shot down an rq4. Thats a global hawk. Its a highaltitude long range surveillance aircraft. The u. S. Staying was an a routine surveillance over hormuz. It was saying it was flying in International Airspace at the time. Iran who acknowledges shooting down the drone says it drifted in iranian airspace. What this could be is a case of the often disputed area that iran calls iranian territory air and water near and around the strait of hormuz. But what most of the International Community remembering nineses as both International Airspace and international water. Craig. Ned price, youve got the attack on the oil tankers there in the straight, now the shooting down of this drone, reports that iran is now also ramping up its Nuclear Production capabilities. What what do we know about what their motivations might be here . What message might the iranians be trying to send to the United States of america . Well, the challenge, craig, is that we have hardliners really dictating the contours of this crisis. And i mean that both in terms of the american context and as you referred to in terms of the iranian context. Our hardliners are empowering their hardliners and viceversa. And think thats what youve seen play out in recent days. Lets start with john bolton and mike pompeo the secretary of state and National Security adviser who last year were helped to orchestrate the pullout of the United States from the iran deal. They promised that this campaign of maximum pressure that would lead to this socalled better deal. And i think in some ways the results speak for themselves. The United States not iran is now more isolated. Iran is now more emboldened. It is far from coward. Irans proxies are more aggressive in the renal as weve seen in recent kadays. And were no closer to resembling a better deal ninkt the shoot down of the drone in recent hours, the tanker attacks in recent days, some of the other provocations from the houthis, from shia militia groups in iraq in recent days all speak to the fact that now irans hardliners too have the upper hand. And i think we saw an early glimpse of that a few months ago when the Iranian Foreign minister, a pragmatist who helped negotiate the iran deal resigned only to help strengthen his hand and to show that he, too, would have a say in all of this. The challenges that we have hardliners in the drivers seat and with the hardliners in the drivers seat, craig, i think theres no telling where this goes. A few moments ago we heard from Lindsey Graham also wildly considered to be shall we say fairly hawkish on military matters, matters of National Security, said in a stakeout that he told President Trump, quote, tell the iranians that if they increase their Enrichment Program for uranium, that would be a pro vocative act towards the United States and israel and all bets are off. In terms of a response from this administration, ned, where do we suppose that the next step is going to be . Well, the administration has been laying the predicate, laying the rational for some sort of military operation against iran in recent days. And i should clarify, people like john bolton and mike pompeo have chiefly been doing that. They have been invoking things like the president s article 2 authority under the constitution or the 2001 aumf that authorize the United States to go to war with al qaeda, the small ban that was then based in afghanistan that carried out attacks on 9 11. Theyre stretching to find the authorization to use force against iran chiefly because one does not exist. Weve heard democrats in the house and in the senate, i think well hear two additional senators today make that case very strongly. I think what we may see is some sort of limited operation in the aftermath of this drone shootdown, something thats rather targeted. My real concern, though, is that we will continue to see the secretary of state and the National Security adviser charge ahead trying to advocate for something broader, something more drastic, and something that would be certainly disastrous not only for the United States, but the broad irrelevan something broader and wouldnt set back the president all that much. Keep us posted there at the white house. Again, a meeting on iran under way as we speak. Well keep you posted as we find out more about that. Meanwhile, weeks after the release of the mueller report, the political fight still rages on capitol hill. A hearing under way right now on the hill. We will head there life after the break. Todays hearing starting in the last hour with Congress Members jerry nadler, collins opening by lobbing shots at the opposing party. We acknowledged we were attacked by foreign adversary. They acknowledged that our election systems are not secure. They acknowledged that Congress Must respond to these threats without delay. But then they urged us to stop talk about the findings of the mueller report. Unfortunately we cannot simply forget that the president s 2016 Election Campaign encouraged russias actions both privately and publicly. Democrats are not only disappointed, theyre angry that the braze not a russian asset. Imagine disliking a president so much that you wish he were a foreign agent. Joining me now, senior write fore politico, jake sherman and msnbc contributor as well. Mr. Sherman, what are democrats trying to accomplish with this hearing . Well, i think you could view all of these hearings if youre a cynic like i am, you could view all of them as kind of not distractions but things to fill the air while democrats do not impeach the president as a growing number of people in their caucus want to do. I think what youre seeing are committees struggling to get new takeaways from a report thats been poured over, picked apart, especially in the light of almost no witnesses that material witnesses that are willing and able to come forward and testify. You saw hope hicks yesterday behind closed doors. Democrats were not happy with what they heard from her. So what were seeing basically is week after week of the same kind of political circus in these committees where democrats and republicans yell at each other, stay in their own camps and no one is convince and more and more people come out every day for impeachment. We saw this morning a close ally of nancy pelosi, and mckows ski being a republican in a somewhat swing district last cycle come out for impeachment inquiries. So the number is growing and these hearings are not lending anymore clarity to the situation. Jake, any of the republicans interested there in learning anything from the experts that are being interviewed today . Was that sound that we just played from congressman collins pretty much a taste of their strategy . Far be it for me to seja theyre interested in or not interested in if the what theyre saying publicly is what doug collins and jim jordan who are on the screen saying is that democrats are upset, they didnt get the per verbial smoking gun that they wanted and theyre lashing out in these hearings. This bears repeating, not one single republican besides justin homage who has expressed any interest in impeachment inquiry, not even a faint interesting tr. Not even a spec of an interest. So we need to kind of temper our expectations here when youre if youre looking at congress that something is going to happen, its going to be bipartisan. Not one member of the house or republican member of the senate is interested in impeachment. All right. Jake sherman, well give you a little break but youre going to come back and well spend time talking about another hearing thats happening on ufos. Okay. He sat down with nbc news and telemundos jose balart for his first interview on a Spanish LanguageTelevision Network since taking office. And they covered a wide range of topics from the 2020 president ial election to the u. S. mexico crisis on the border. Going back to the latino vote, granted a percentage definitely supports you. But there are some who fear, who fear your rhetoric, who fear whats been going on on the border, who fear that you have said that you will be deporting millions of people. They want me do it. Mr. President. Theyre here illegally. They do. They dont want to lose their jobs. They want to keep their salaries, their wages up, and they dont want crime. When people come through, you have ms13 coming through. But thats not the majority, mr. President. Hispanics. Its not its a lot of people. If it was one in a hundred its too many. The mothers coming with their children are not ms13. I agree. But if its one in a hundred its too many. Im joined now by jennifer rueben, Washington Post, opinion writer, hes also an msnbc political analyst. Always good to have you, jennifer if the what yo doh you make of the president s remarks there . How do you think theyll play with hispanic voters . I dont think theyll play very well and i think the challenge for the democrats is to take the antagonism that the Hispanic Community feels towards President Trump and turn that vote out. We saw it a little bit in 2018. We saw it in texas, for example, with beto orourke. So trumps game may be to try to allay that anxiety or to try to suppress or deter people from getting to the polls. I dont think hes going to actually win people over. I think democrats challenge, as it always is, is to turn their people out. And theres plenty of reason for them to do it. And theres also economic reason do it. And that goes back to some of those bread and butter issues that democrats i think are going to have to stress not only to turn out hispanic voters, really any voter at all. I want to play another clip here from the president s conversation with jose. This is the president s answer to whether he thinks mexico is a friend or a foe. Lets talk about mexico. Do you consider mexico an ally, an adversary, a friend, or a foe . This week i consider them a friend. Theyve been doing a great job, actually. We signed an agreement last week. They have 6,000 people going to their southern border, troops, and they are doing a really good job. So far theyve been doing a really good job. Is this a week by week i have to see how they do. They can easily stop if they want to, they can easily stop this tremendous migration to the United States and then we have all these the illegals coming in. Its no good. Mexico has been great for the last week and a half. Now, i signed the agreement a week and a half ago. But theyve been great. Theyve honored the agreement. If they werent great, i would put tariffs on. Where do we see this relationship going, jennifer . Well, first of all, all of that was wrong. Mexico hasnt been doing anything this week that wasnt it wasnt doing the prior week. And, as you know, 6 state of ohio very nice number but theres no sign that they have those people available in the National Guard which was formed just a few months ago. So donald trump goes up and down with allies depending upon whether they have given cover for him or said nice things about him. And thats why his mood swings wildly back and forth. This is not a good situation because we actually do need mexicos help and we are actually undercutting their efforts by cutting off aid to the Central American countries. If mexico really wants to work in partnership, what they should tell trump, im sure they have, is that you cant cut aid to the countries in which people are destitute, theyre separate, ded flooelg fleeing their home country. This is an ally. Mexico is an ally. Canada san ally. Mexico is our biggest trading partner and trump treetats them about as poorly hes treats the eu. Unless he can get some personal satisfaction, a deal that he can wave in the air, no matter how frivolous, no matter how empty it is, hes going to have a temper tantrum. And we came very close, as you know, craig, to having tariffs slapped on which would have been really devastating for the economy. While i have you here, jennifer, i want to talk to you about congresswoman alexandria ocasiocortez. Shes defending herself. Take a. The United States is running concentration camps on our southern border. And that is exactly what they are. They are concentration camps. Should she apologize, jennifer . This is my problem with aoc, which is she gets us talking about the wrong thing. What we should be talking about is how horrendous these facilities are, how inhumane the policy towards these migrants are. And instead were arguing about the historical use of the word concentration camp. She has a technical point, the concentration camps existed far before the nazi regime and that they were not killing centers in many instances. That point is going to be lost. And by using that terminology, she draws attention to herself, she draws an internal fight among democrats and then across the board and we are not talking about the one thing that we should all agree upon, which is that this president has run a completely inhumane policy towards children, poor immigrants, Asylum Seekers and he should be held accountable. I would really prefer that she avoid the temptation to stir controversy at every opportunity and use her celebrity to really put the pressure on the administration where the fresh ushould be put. Jennifer rueben, Washington Post, msnbc contributor. Thank you. We also should mention jose diazbalart will be one of the moderators of the first president ial democratic debate. Next week. Billionaire and political donor, tom steyer out with a new political ad advocating for impeachment against President Trump. Steyer just one of many white and male political donors dominating the field. But now several women of color across this country are trying to change that. Thats according to the Washington Post who writes that the efforts are part of a Broader Campaign to elevate voices of this group and to recognize the power minority women hold through political giving. Im joined now by amy alice the. She is founder of she the people. Always good to see amy. Thanks for your time. So right now the political donor class, mostly male, mostly white, and it doesnt really match the diversity of this country. Explain first of all why donor disparities matter. Well, donor disparities matter because, look, democrats just cannot win without women of color both as voters and political donors especially in this election psych. Weve seen historically women of color have donated to organizations and causes that invest right back in the community and spend their money differently. Really believe in a broader justice agenda. And political donors that are women of color are no different. But the challenge is that candidates and campaigns havent until now been speaking to women of color donors and our issues. So we have left that untapped. And what were seeing now is that women of color political donors are leveling up and getting organized to have a big impact for 2020. How might that affect issues like abortion, affirmative action, immigration . Well, first of all, political donors give their money directly to campaigns but they also give their money to organizations on the ground. I mean, if you look at the close relationship between donor collaboratives and organizations that have emerged in last couple of years, including way to win run by tori and womens donor network, they are closely allied with women of color who are running voter expansion, investigation and registration efforts on the ground and those run parallel to campaigns and campaign infrastructure. And on the ground these Movement Leaders who are representing racial economic social justice, these issues including abortion rights and others, as they build strength on the ground, as they get fully funded by donors, theyre able to organize and speak to communities to really convince them to be part of the political process in order to get their issues reflected in politics. And i think thats the ecosystem and the importance of women of color donors in this moment. Your organization, she the people, what are they plan doing to change the game with regards to this . She the people elevates the political voice and power of women color which includes not only voters but organizers and donors. I think all of that combined means that women of color who have who are leveling up, who are insisting that the politics and the issues and the campaigns reflect the kind of, you know, commitment to improving the communities and speaking to the issues of racial economic and gender justice. And so i think what she the peoples big contribution is is helping to bring people together, y together. You know, in the Washington Post it showed political donors who had come together as part of the she the people president ial forum that we held with many of the major candidates in houston two months ago. And it really shows our opportunity to bring people together to align and to continue organizing and supporting those efforts. Look, if you look at the millions of dollars that these donor collaborative run by women of color moved in 2018, thats just a taste of whats going to happen for 2019 and 2020. I think as we get further organized and assert our power, were also going to see not only at the federal level but at the state level she the people held a Virginia Town hall to gather women of color organizers in that swing state for an event. And that evening they announced a power rising pac specifically to support women of color who are running for the state legislature in virginia which is currently dominated by the gop. They want to make sure that women of color, when it comes to issues of abortion, when it comes to issues of Economic Justice and criminal justice that we have candidates who are going to be courageous and clear about representing the community in that way. So were going to see were likely to see donors organizing at the state level for pacs as well as the federal level to shape and insist that the politics Going Forward in the party really represent the politics of the community. Thank for your time. From area 51 to capitol hill. A small group of senators huddled with pentagon officials for a top secret briefing. This comes as more and more u. S. Fighter pilots are seeing what they believe are ufos in our skies. Does the government finally know whether we are, in fact, alone in the universe . Ne in the universe . Ive always been excited for whats next. Im still going for my best. Even though i live with a higher risk of stroke due to afib not caused by a heart valve problem. So if theres a better treatment than warfarin, ill go for that. Eliquis. Eliquis is proven to reduce stroke risk better than warfarin. Plus has significantly less major bleeding than warfarin. Eliquis is fdaapproved and has both. Whats next . Sharing my roots. Dont stop taking eliquis unless your doctor tells you to, as stopping increases your risk of having a stroke. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily and it may take longer than usual for any bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. Eliquis, the number one cardiologistprescribed blood thinner. Ask your doctor if eliquis is whats next for you. Now to some Close Encounters. Congress getting briefed on ufos, thats right, unidentified flying objects. A new politico report details growing requests to the pentagon from government officials about a series of reported encounters with the navy with unidentified aircra aircraft. We showed you some of that on the screen. Officials interviewed multiple current and former sailors and aviators who claim to have encountered highly advanced aircraft that appeared to defy the laws of aerodynamics when they intruded on protected military airspace. Politico reporter jake sherman back with us. Is not a joke here. Senator mark warner, vice chair of the Senate Intelligence committee, one of the members recently briefed by officials. His spokesperson release add statement saying in part, quote, if naval pilots are running into unexplained interference in the air, thats a safety concern senator warner wants us to get to the bottom of. I read that as senator is a believer in ufos. You might think members of congress are unidentified flying objects, but in this case theyre investigating them. You have to image members of congress are constantly in touch with military personnel and have constituents, mark warner has huge military constituents in his state. Theyre hearing complaints, encounters with things in the air and they want answers. Its not that strange, but there are policy issues here. It put in place new reporting requirements. There might be more as my colleague reports, new reporting requirements to ensure that ufos or whatever these might be we dont know what they are that they get the proper attention, theyre documented throughout time so we can go. As you might recall, President Trump was asked about this last week. You know what . I want to play that for our viewers on sirius satellite radar. President trump on abc talking about his ufo briefings. You have access to all the mysteries out there. Were seeing more and more reports of navy pilots seeing lots and lots of ufos. What do you think about that . I have. I want them to think whatever they think. Ive seen and ive read and i heard, i did have one very brief meeting on it. People are saying theyre seeing ufos. Do i believe it . Not particularly. Do you think you would know if there were evidence of extraterrestrial life . I think our great pilots would know, and some of them really see things that are a little different than in the past. So were going to see. Well watch it. Youll be the first to know. The president sounds incredulous there, jake sherman. Birtherism, wind tunnels, how wind tunnels operate, hes expressed some peculiar views in the past, but apparently he draws the line on ufos, i suppose. He said George Stephanopoulos is going to be the first person to know if theres ufos. That should give us comfort. Listen, the president does have the access to the highest level of intelligence. He does give briefed on, again, anything he wants for sure. Members of congress probably get a little lower level. Officials, when they come to capitol hill are much more guarded when they talk to members of congress because members of congress tend to have big mouths and lead to peak like us. If the president , who is known to speak his mind, is saying he doesnt believe this, i think that should give us some idea that at least the science and the surveillance is not where it needs to be. Ufos, craig, might not actually exist. Jake sherman, im shocked at your skepticism. Back to the breaking news we brought you at the top of the hour. Meeting under way at the white house to talk about how the wrats is going to respond after iran shot down a u. S. Aircraft overnight. Another 2020 contender is coming out in support of decriminalizing sex work. Just 24 hours after senator Elizabeth Warren said she would be open to it, Bernie Sanders doing the same. His Deputy Communications says bernie believes that decriminalizing is certainly something that should be considered. Otherwise have done it and its shown to make the lives of sex workers safer. Back when he was asked in march, he said he didnt have an answer for that. Thats going to wrap up this hour. Ill see you tomorrow morning on today. Andrea mitchell reports starts right now. Big mistake, President Trump with a stern message for iran after iran shoots down an unmanned american drone in what the u. S. Is calling an unprovoked attack over International Waters and iran claims violated their airspace. These are very precisely guided, unmanned, run by high tech computers. I would bet almost anything that was in International Airspace. I think its a dangerous situation. High tension wires are up in the region. We expect to hear from President Trump this hour. No apologies. Joe biden standing by his
