Are more than happy to link the lies to a larger russia conspiracy, so far, the special counsel is not, begging the question, will he . That is where we start with nbcs ken dilanian the question here, whether or not mueller is building to something bigger what do we know about the answer to the question. The fate of the Trump Presidency may hinge to be honest, after talking to sources and reading the indictment, the stone indictment over and over, i can argue it both ways. It is up in the air. As you mentioned, there is no charge of criminal conspiracy with the russians in the stone indictment neither was there with paul manafort, Michael Cohen, rick gates. If mueller had proof of a russia conspiracy, why hasnt he charged it you can argue it the other way, and many legal experts on our air have done so, where they believe mueller is dropping breadcrumbs in the indictments there was some in the roger stone indictment essentially, mueller alaeleged stone was aware of the wikileaks emails before they were made public they said stone was directed by trump officials, and they were directed by someone who could only be the president , to find out what else wikileaks had. That doesnt allege conspiracy with the russians, craig nonetheless, there are people who believe that mueller is holding his cards close to the vest and, at some point, will give us the big reveal it is also possible there is no criminal conspiracy. That doesnt mean he wont excoriate donald trump and the people around him in a report, critical of judgment it doesnt speak to the obstruction of justice. Kenne, thank you. Im joined now by former u. S. Attorney and senior fbi official, chuck rosenthal. Msnbc analyst. Mr. Miller, i want to read something that was in the waste th this morning the lies me ti falsehoods by trump advisers that masked efforts by people in the orbit to develop inroads with russia and leverage relationships what does this tell us about a possible conspiracy with russia and the campaign the trump campaign, trump himself, people around trump really lied about their relationship with russia and russian entities, whether his attempt to do business in russia, whether it be the trump tower meeting with an intermediary for russian intelligence, whether it be their contacts through intermediaries with wikileaks. They have lied from the beginning. I think the question that really, you know, kind of to kens point, the question that remains outstanding, have they lied because they were trying to cover up what would be a massive political scandal, but maybe didnt cross the line into a criminal act, or were they lying because people, you know, on the trump campaign, maybe up to the president himself, then candidate himself, actually committed crimes, actually entered into a conspiracy with wikileaks, or as an intermediary we dont know the answer to that question what i will say, we often talk on this program and others about, you know, whether the president committed a crime and whether there will be a finding of criminal wrongdoing by the president at the end of the investigation. We should remain mindful that that is not the only bar for president ial misconduct. Were rightly focused on this. It is a criminal investigation bob mueller has been conducting it if we see all of the president s actions laid out at the end, and the actions of those around him, i dont think just criminal activity is the only standard by which we should judge it. How should we judge that standard i think you would start by looking at high crimes and misdemeanors, the standard in the constitution for whether a president should be removed from office youd look at whether he violated his oath of office, both by actions he took in office to obstruct the investigation. I think there are other standards that, you know, when we if there isnt a move by or successful move by congress to impeach him at the end of this, it will be a standard for voters to judge at the end, whether they think his conduct in the campaign was appropriate, and whether his conduct with represent to the investigation is appropriate. Could mueller be building a counterintelligence report, as well, that we may never see . That could very well be true. Counterintelligence investigations dont always result, craig, in criminal charges. Theyre long theyre complicated. Theyre sensitive. Therefore, the information that you get in a counterintelligence investigation may not be suitable for dumping into the public domain. Sometimes, counterintelligence investigations result in criminal charges often, they do not what im guessing here is that we have both a criminal investigation, that ken and matt described, and a counterintelligence investigation, that you asked you, running parallel to run another. Chuck, we heard roger stone there last hour, in front of his home there in florida ahead of his appearance tomorrow in a d. C. Courtroom, talking again about the special counsel. Would a prosecutor want to talk to someone like roger stone as a witness . Boy, good question. So hes still speaking, but he is still not making any sense. Look, prosecutors and agents will sit down with anybody who will tell the truth. Mr. Stone seems to have had a lot of trouble with that simple concept his entire professional life so would they talk to him . Yes. I imagine they would but he has a lot of healing to do it doesnt seem to me like he has come to terms with either the charges against him, his role in this crime, or what the truth really looks and sounds like he was still making stuff up, talking in front of his home today, and i dont think he is going to be incredibly valuable if he continues to do that, craig. Matt, sit tight, if you can for a moment i want to bring in congressman Sean Patrick Maloney of new york congressman maloney serves on the house intelligence committee. Congressman, thanks for coming by, by the way. You bet. Do appreciate it. What is the first job of your committee in regard to this russia investigation who will you be calling to testify, and will any of it be public right what youve seen the chairman say is the most important thing is we get the committee up and running, we defend the integrity of the committees work, and that starts with releasing all of the transcripts from what has come before, with circling back around and making sure that where the republicans did not do the work, that we do that work, and that we, first and foremost, make it clear that people will be held accountable for their testimony before the committee. What does that mean it means the adults are back in charge. Thats what youre seeing with roger stone. Thats what youre seeing with bob mueller. Nancy pelosi is the adult in a conversation over shutting down the government all of this nonsense has been like the fire Music Festival of american politics. It got whipped up and it was fun for a while, but the fundamentals are reasserting themselves prosecutors like robert mueller, professional adults like nancy pelosi, are bringing rationality back to the conversation chairman adam schiff is one of the adults, and youll see us take our work seriously. Michael cohen subpoenaed . I think it is absolutely clear were going to hear from mr. Cohen and a bunch of other people bear in mind, the chairman has also made a priority of trying to restore some bipartisanship to the work of the committee he takes that seriously, as well this is not going to be a political circus this is going to be a professional operation again, and thats going to include taking seriously truthful testimony before the committee or Holding People accountable who have lied. There are reports that republicans have not yet announced who is going to be serving on that committee. That, in turn, has made it difficult to sort of get off the ground, difficult to issue these subpoenas and release witness testimony in the russia investigation. Whats the latest on that . Are those reports accurate they are accurate they have not named the members, at least as of friday. I did hear the majority excuse me the minority leader say hed do so today it is overdue. We need to get going. Chuck, matt, ill bring you back into the conversation here. Matt, ill start with you. What do you make of what we just heard from the congressman as it relates to next steps with the russia investigation and this committee . It is absolutely critical weve seen two witnesses before that committee caught up in the criminal justice system. Roger stone was indict eed for lying to the committee Michael Cohen already admitted lying to the committee if the members of the committee think there are other witnesses who lied to them, erik prince, for example, who came before the committee and said his meeting with a russian banker in the seychelles was a coincidence we found out later it was arranged in advance. If there are other witnesses before the committee who the committee has evidence lied to them, whether well see a number of referrals to mueller or other entities inside the Justice Department to investigate them, i think itd be an appropriate step to take. Congressman, what say you to that first of all, do we already know whether there have been other members of the president s orbit who lied to the committee . What needs to happen, every transcript before my committee needs to be made available to the special counsel for the purposes of prosecution, if necessary, but for review of truthfulness that doesnt limit us, by the way, as a committee. We have our own capacity and oversight responsibilities there is a cop on this beat right now who needs all that information, needs it yesterday. I know the chairman is committed to getting it right away the chips will fall where they may. Look, people will be held accountable for what they said, and if they made false statements, they can be held accountable for that. How many other folks do you think made false statements to the committee . Im not prepared to say that. I think the facts will speak for themselves the information needs to be made available in the first instance to the special counsel we will do our own oversight and make our own judgments on this the committee is back in business chairman adam schiff is a talented, dedicated guy, and he is going to work at this to find the truth. People are going to know it. Chuck, Something Else thats making some news here the last few hours. Chris christie on one of the morning shows raised a few eyeb eyebrows on his book tour. This is part of what the former governor had to say. Having lunch with the president and Jared Kushner after he fired Michael Flynn they thought itd end the investigation . Flynn was the only guy that spoke to the russians, apparently he said, i think itll end it. I laughed and said, mr. President , it is unfortunate you have to tell you this, but having done this myself for a living, were going to be talking about this on valentines day february 18 they laughed out loud. Jared told me i was crazy. Chuck, weve talked about it before here. This is an administration that has never really seemed to fully appreciate how serious the investigation is with the roger stone indictment, do you get the sense thats changed . I dont know that they really understand what theyre doing or what the ramifications of what theyre doing really are you know, this is two points i wanted to make, craig, and it goes back to something the congressman said, too, which i think is incredibly important. First, having been a federal prosecutor for a long sometitim these are complicated and they take a long time given that, i believe mueller is moving very quickly. To those who would criticize mueller for not moving quickly enough, remember that the House Select Committee on intelligence under republican rule wouldnt provide transcripts to prosecutors to see if folks had misled our congress. If youre complaining about mueller moving quickly, some of that not moving quickly enough, some of the blame has to reside with congress in the last sessi session. I hope, now, that those transcripts are given to the mueller team and they can move quickly. Maybe the president and his advisers will begin to see how serious this is. Chuck, thank you. Matt miller, good to have you, as well. Thank you. Congressman, this temporary deal to keep the government open, are you one of the democrats thats open to compromising with the administration are you open to fwgiving the president some of the money he wants for a physical wall along the border, if that means a permanent solution look, first of all, it is terrific were beyond the government shutdown. It is clear when i talk about who the adult in the room is why it ended the way it did. One side was making sense, and one side wasnt. We need to continue to do that that means having a real commitment to Border Security. Never shuti ishutting the gover down again. Does the commitment include a physical wall . Itll include for most of us what makes sense lets agree on what a secure border really looks like, then lets fund those things. Lets not have this pretend conversation anymore about a fantasy game of throne style wall mexico is going to pay for. Youre open to giving the president some of what he wants . Democrats always supported Border Security. You know what he is talking about, he wants a wall he said time and time again, he wants a wall granted, what constitutes a wall has changed from time to time. The president says he wants a wall are you prepared to give him a few billion dollars for the wall i used to work with a guy who would say, when someone wasnt making sense, hes been like a fart on a griddle. The fact is, the president has said everything you can say about this and has been hopping all over the place if he is now back in the world of reality, where were going to talk about what the experts tell us will create a secure border, put real metrics around it, invest in loading the xray trucks that carry drugs, invest in personnel and infrastructure, of course, enhance physical barriers where they make sense were doing it under the severed fences act, and were prepared to invest in it. Our prosiosition was, dont cloe the government, and have a real conversation about Border Security lets not forget Immigration Reform, the dreamers lets not forget the real priority of figuring out how to let people get right with the law and contribute to american society, so that we can benefit from their energy and their dreams, and not just have a pretend conversation about a political issue. I think we have got a responsibility but opportunity to make progress here. I know the leadership is committed to it. Nancy pelosi has been dead right on this, and she is doing a hell of a job i think all of us are supporting her. Congressman, thank you for your time. American and taliban officials have reportedly agreed in principle to the framework of a peace deal this is according to the New York Times. The United States is considering a full withdrawal of troops in afghanistan, and that would be in return for a ceasefire commitment by the taliban to keep afghan territory from being used as a staging ground for terrorist groups like al qaeda these negotiations, which are still ongoing, would be a breakthrough step in terms of ending the twodecade long war americas longest war in history. Temporary relief new details on when the committee tasked with finding the solution on Border Security will sit down to hammer out a deal also, the contenders rumors swirling once again that Hillary Clinton has not closed the door on 2020 and the disrupter. President trump and congress have 18 days to reach an agreement over Border Security and border wall funding before facing another possible shutdown the 17 lawmakers tasked with coming up with a compromise are expected to meet on wednesday. President trump, for his part, has already slammed the group, telling the wall street journal he is doubtful they can reach an agreement, and he is prepared to use his Emergency Powers to build his wall 800,000 federal workers are back to work, getting paid for the first time in 2019, but the question remains, can the government avoid closing a second time . Im joined now by msnbcs Garrett Haake on capitol hill, and msnbcs Steve Patterson, live in oakland, california, where employees are headed back to work this morning ill start with you, garrett, on the hill the president has already said he doesnt believe lawmakers can reach a deal you have some details, new details on this meeting thats happening wednesday. What can you tell us reporter craig, we expect the work to begin in earnest on wednesday for the lawmakers. For fans of functioning government, this is a pretty good group of people you have working on this. A lot of appropriators, folks with longtime experience in the senate and in the house, and folks who are close to the leadership in both parties meaning that these will be people who are empowered to actually negotiate and actually try to come up with something of a deal and getting to a deal amongst and between themselves probably wont be the challenging part here remember, the senate, for example, had already negotiated a bipartisan deal on Border Security, on dhs, last year. Itll be getting to an agreement that the president then can sign off on, that will still be the challenge. As we stand here right now, democrats remain firm in their commitment not to provide any money for the wall what can they come up with what can they do to put their money where their mouths are in terms of supporting Border Security but not providing money for the wall and can the president , who will ultimately be the decider here, get to yes on a bill that does not include the wall thatll be the dynamic to watch as sort of the overarching theme the next two week, as this committee gets to work on wednesday. Steve patterson, let me turn to you here. I know youre live at a cafe across the street, where government workers are going back to work here for the first time how worried are they, that they are going to find themselves in a similar predicament 18 days from now reporter very worried. I mean, theres a real sense of relief, craig. Definitely want to say that. We are far from broad optimism the coffee shop over my Left Shoulder here. You can see the Federal Building behind me. Were seeing workers stream into the building, a good sign for people coming back to work we spent a lot of time here last year the area was a ghost town. That building looms over this building this is the coffee shop weve been referencing the owner, right there in the corner over there, he said that he moved his business here to serve federal workers because he thought, at the time, there was no more stable work than federal work 80 to 90 of his client base are the federal workers. He said last week, hed never seen this before, that five separate occasions, people had their credit cards declined. Weve been talking to workers this morning who have been coming in. We missed the morning rush, as you can see, but theyve been saying theyre hoping this temporary fix quickly turns into something permanent, so they can focus on their jobs. One of those people, her name is destiny cooper she was a furloughed epa worker, coming back to work today. We spoke to her about what this threeweek period means to her, for her personal finances. Listen to this for me, this three weeks is about trying to get things at least both at work and personally, with my personal finances, at least on some re m resemblance of on track. Itll probably take three, four months to get everything back on track, assuming they pass another spending bill at the end of three weeks reporter i asked her, you know, if lawmakers in d. C. Or people sort of making criticisms about this situation angered her in the period. She said, look, i have been in survival mode the past 35 days i dont have time to think about that i also asked how close she was to moving out, seeking help at a food bank. She said, if this had gone on any longer, and i mean any longer, like the next three days, sheseen i seeking help Steve Patterson there Garrett Haake on the hill. Cause and effect thank you. Democratic president ial hopeful Kamala Harris went big, and she went home. The california senator announced her candidacy in front of a crowd estimated to be some 20,000 strong yesterday, in the city where she was born. Harris officially joined the 2020 race to unseat president donald j. Trump. With faith in god, with fidelity to country, and with the fighting spirit i got from my mother, i stand before you today to announce my candidacy for president of the United States and if that scene looked vaguely familiar, it is because, well, harris launch bears striking similarities to the Campaign Launch of thencandidate barack obama. He traveled back to his adopted hometown in the state of illinois 2017 to announce his first president ial run like obama, harris referenced her upbringing and the place that sharpened her values. Nbc News National Political Correspondent Steve Kornacki joins me now we have the big board out here because we wanted to take a look at where some of the early, declared contenders, and folks who are considering it, where they stand right now in terms of the race, and the look at what we know about polls like this. What the numbers mean this early. Camila mKamala Harris getting ie race the most recent National Poll on the democratic side. Kamala harris, the third place name there, 9 not bad for a firstterm senator. The giant question mark hanging over the field, 42 of the total vote, the total support in the poll, is between biden and sanders. We dont know if either of them are going to run. If they dont run, where does the support go thats the question here. Theres all sorts of formulations for what could happen here. Huge question mark at least 4 out of 10 democratic votes would be totally up for grabs. Probably up for grabs even if theyre in it. What do the numbers mean thats the other question it a this early point last time out, we didnt know what the field would look like we didnt know if biden would run, warren would run. Neither ended up running look who emerged and gave Hillary Clinton a fight in 2016, bernie sanders, at 3 at this point back then. You mention the obama parallel it was clear when he got in the race he would be a factor in the race, but it wasnt clear he could give Hillary Clinton actually that kind of a challenge for the nomination and, ultimately, to win it there was biden. He did run remember, people thought kerry might run in 08 thought gore might run you dont know the shape of the field. Go back to this one, 2004, the race to run against george w. Bush joe biebee lieberman had been te president ial nominee last time out. It was name recognition. Howard dean it was kerry who won the nomination, but dean caught fire in 03 you dont know if there is a dean out there you dont see now. Hes not going to be pleased. We used that from the campaign, to be true to history there. Lets talk about Howard Schultz for a moment 60 minutes, there was a profile last night theres been some talk he might be getting into the race theres been some talk if he does get into the race, hell run as an independent. To that, he said, quote, i feel if i ran as a democrat, i would have to be disingenuous and say things i dont believe because the party has shifted so far to the left how much damage do we think an independent run by Howard Schultz would do to the democrats . That is the assumption democrats have the fear they have is schultz would drain support that would otherwise go to democrats. To put up the 2016 results Hillary Clinton won the popular vote you did have, you know, about 6 million votes for these thirdparty candidates, as well. I think it is an open question, if schultz ran as an independent, who we draw from. The democratic theory would be folks who have given up on trump, this gives them another option that would drain votes from democrats. That is possible, and i understand why democrats fear that heres the other theory. Remember the soft trump voters from 2016 . They didnt like donald trump. They didnt want to vote for him, but they didnt want to vote for the democrats in the end, they checked off trumps name just because they didnt want to vote for Hillary Clinton. If you have a Howard Schultz out there, does that present, does that provide another option for the soft voters that would drain votes from trump i just dont think we know the history of these things, the thirdparty candidate sis, the assumption of what theyll do doesnt always match up with what they do. Stand by. I want to bring in adrian elrod, foe former director for Strategic Communications for Hillary Clintons campaign i want to get to Kamala Harris in a moment, but lets talk about Howard Schultz what say you, if he does get into this, does it hurt democrats more, hurt republicans more is it simply too early to tell you know, i guess to an extent, it is too early to tell, but i have a lot of concerns with any independent running Howard Schultz, somebody else, anybody running as an independent, how it might split the vote look, we know from recent polling that donald trump is very vulnerable. He can be beat he could be beat potentially in a republican primary we have to have a united front in this effort any sort of potential independent running could dilute the vote i think in this case, again, i think Howard Schultz is a very commendable businessperson hes done he has a stellar record on progressive issues i think running as an independent in this particular cycle could potentially be a spoiler in terms of defeating donald trump. Lets talk about Kamala Harris now without mentioning the president by name, she made clear her candidacy is, in part, a rebuke of the trump administration. We are here because the American Dream and our american democracy are under attack and on the line like never before. America, we are better than this what did we learn about Kamala Harris over the weekend, adrien adrienne we learned, craig, she had, in my view, the best rollout so far, over the past of everybody else gotten in the race the last week, we drove the news within the first 24 hours, she announced she raised contributions from all 50 states, a total of 1. 2 million. She had an event in South Carolina of course, the rollout with 20,000 plus people in her hometown of oakland, california. Shes on top right now i consider her to be the front runner of all the candidates who have announced shes also built a front, formidable team. It is very exciting to see what shes done so far. I think that shes made it clear that she will take on trump in her own terms, and not on his terms, but by pushing gol ining progressive policies. Lets talk about your old boss for a moment. There is a source or sources telling cnn, apparently, that Hillary Clinton is not closing the door on yet another run for the presidency that despite, at least, and correct me if im wrong, no reports there is an apparatus in place, no reports shes out there secretly raising money for another run. Any intel on whether Hillary Clinton is going to get back in the game yeah, craig look, secretary clinton received 63 million votes in 2016 its no surprise that people might want her to run again. She knows better than anybody how difficult it is to get from point a as a candidate to point b as president of the United States i think, in this particular environment, with so many different people running and interested in running for the presidency, it is going to be that much harder again, no surprise, craig, that people are considering or encouraging her to run, that she might be considering it, but i think, ultimately, she will decide not to do it. All right well have to leave it there adrienne, thank you. Steve kornacki, thank you, as well, sir. President trump says the chances of reaching a compromise on the wall are less than 50 50. Does that mean were headed for yet another shutdown 18 days from now the president s family facing new criticism this morning after 12 undocumented workers at their Westchester Golf Club are fired. President trump ended the shutdown friday, but temporarily. President trump expressing doubt lawmakers can reach a deal to keep it open Mick Mulvaney saying the president is prepared to act without congress. When the president comes to you and says, shall i declare an emergency, would you recommend he do that we have been hoping for months to do it through legislation with democrats because thats the right way for the government to function at the end of the day, the president s commitment is to defend the nation. Hell do it either with or without congress joined now by former congressman Ryan Costello and Washington Post political reporter eugene scott. Eugene, this time around, any different . Doesnt look like it. Both sides of the aisle pretty much have the same position that they did before the shutdown began. Their bases are even more upset. Weve seen some people who supported trump with the wall originally, quite frankly, back away from backing his idea in part, seeing how dangerous it has been to their own livelihood and the country as a whole that doesnt seem as if itll make trump pivot that much. Congressman, this is what the president said to the wall street journal about the lawmakers tasked to getting the deal done. Set to meet on wednesday quote, i personally think it is less than 50 50, but you have a lot of very good people on that board. What kind of position does that put republicans in, as they try to negotiate on wednesday . It probably gives them a l little bit of safe space, so if they fail, the president wont blame them i agree with you, eugene i think my gut tells me well end up with an emergency declaration. Ive heard that from a couple people myself. I will say this, i think democrats have softened their position a little bit. Theyre willing to put some money up, call it something other than a wall. Republicans have softened up their position a little bit, mindful that fighting for a wall and going through a shutdown doesnt sell well. I think the most conservative portions of the party agree with that i think he files an emergency declaration. Then you get a clean funding bill, which is what everybody wants. Eugene, even if the president does decide to issue this emergency declaration, how does the administration get around eminent domain, and one would also assume there would probably be a Court Challenge or two to the president s authority. They dont get around eminent domain, at least not in the long term i dont think people realize there are still some court cases being fought roadway re laelate domamain from the Bush Administration there were people along the border who would not support the president backing the idea to get a wall on their land it really would be bad for him and for his party as a whole. Theres also i want to cut in. Go ahead, congressman. Im not even sure it is going to work. If he files the emergency declaration, i dont think it is smooth sailing to build a wall i think that is the reveal vow, so we can fund the government. It is problematic, if he files the declaration. One would assume the president s attorneys and those around him have told him as much. One might assume that, craig. All right congressman costello, well have to leave it there. Congressman, thank you always good to have you, as well, eugene thank you, sir. Thank you at least a dozen longtime undocumented employees at President Trumps Westchester Golf Club were fired earlier this month our kate snow talked to two of those workers about what the trump family knew and, apparently, the president s son talking about this story, as well, just a short time ago. Trump organization is swatting away criticism this morning after the firing of at least a dozen undocumented workers at Trump National golf club here in new york. Nbc News Senior National correspondent kate snow did the First Television interview with this group i understand that these were workers who had been with the golf club for a long time. Some of them for a long time. Some of them for two or three years. One man, up to 18 years. Another, 14 years. More than a decade of some of their lives working at the Trump National golf club up in Westchester County thats about 30 miles north of manhattan. They told me they crossed into this country illegally to find better jobs. When they applied to work at the trump club in westchester, they presented phony documents. They say they werent asked questions. Earlier this month, they were suddenly fired build that wall build that wall. Reporter President Trumps crusade against illegal immigration has been a staple in his speeches dating back to the campaign trail, including this 2016 speech at his golf club in Westchester County, new york on immigration policy, America First means protecting the jobs, wages, and security of American Workers reporter at that same time, gabriel said he was working in Building Maintenance at that very trump club without proper documents. I had been working there almost 14 years. Reporter almost 14 years thats a long time yeah. Reporter almost 14 years. Almost 14 years. Thats a long time. Gabriel says he crossed the border from mexico with his wife and then 1yearold son in 2003. Why did you come here illegally . To give them a better life. Maria priego says she came into the u. S. Illegally that same year from mexico. She started at Trump National in 2015 working as a seasonal housekeeper. Was it a good on . Yes, its a good job. Both showed us their uniforms and pay stubs. They say they presented fake green cards and fake Social Security cards to get their jobs which is illegal we take a copy and they dont ask anything they didnt ask any questions. Any question, no nothing. You worked there almost 14 years. Did you meet President Trump many times. Gabriel remembers mr. Trump approaching him when he was polishing railings. He said heres 200, this for you and your wife. Take her for dinner tonight. The highest level of the club allowed undocumented workers to save money and he believes even the president must have known. I cant be sure about that, but he got to know. You think the president must have known he must have known. The westchester clubis not on the governments list of companies that use the everify system which allows them to work if the workers are in the u. S. Illegally. On january 18th, they say most of them were called in and fired. Gabriel went first they asked me again, are you legal working here i told them no, so they say the company, they cannot keep you there. Eight years at the Club Margarita cruz recorded her meeting. We have to terminate our relationship with you today. Last month i spoke with two women who came forward about working for other trump property an attorney representing employees at both locations is demanding an investigation. I wouldnt be surprised if the California Club has undocumented immigrants and thats why we need a thorough federal investigation. In a statement the Trump Organizations eric trump told nbc news they have very strict hiring practices saying in part if any employee submitted false documentation in an attempt to circumvent the law they will be terminated immediately we take this issue very seriously. This is one of the reasons my father is fighting so hard for Immigration Reform the system is broken gabriel and maria agree something is broken, but they dont think theyre to blame we are good people. We are not criminals we are just hard workers the white house is not commenting directly on the former employees comments, but this may not be over last night some of the workers headed to washington, d. C. , with their attorney to meet with democratic lawmakers and craig, theyre having those meetings as we speak on capitol hill. Meanwhile, it would seem as if the president s son is watching the peacock yes eric trump who we saw a statement from in the piece just within the last hour questioned why we led the broadcast last night on nightly news with this story, and then i wrote to him one thing your former employees also said to us is that they wish they could come out of the shadows thats a quote and he wrote back absolutely, kate this is why we need our incompetent lawmakers to fix this broken and very sad system. Again, he was initially tweeting to me that he felt that we shouldnt have led the broadcast with this story. I would just say it had news value to us. It was an exclusive firsttime interview with many of these employees. To be clear, he did not dispute any of the facts in this story. No, and in their statement, the Trump Organization is not disputing these people were undocumented theyre essentially saying look, we figured this out and we took action and thats what we will continue to do the employees and their lawyer would say why did it take you so long they had been working there for years. Why are they speaking out now, the employees its interesting. I talked with nine people total yesterday, six of them wanted their faces shown and the others didnt and the reason some of them didnt is because theyre looking for jobs right now, craig, and they have families and they have kids who go to Public Schools so its difficult for them to speak out. Those who did go on camera especially maria who you just saw and her colleagues, they say gabriel, they say that they want to come out of the shadows and they want to shine a light on this and they want attention to be paid and they sort of agree with trump that things are broken right now nbc correspondent kate snow thank you very much for your reporting as always.
