Speaking about the unthinkable tragedy and asked you to help us find her. For 88 days, you called in tips, brought us food, searched arm in arm with us, wrote us notes and never gave up hope. As the days and weeks wore on you still continued to call. Law enforcement locally and across the country continued to comb through over 3,500 tips and the family never gave up hope. Last night our collective promise was fulfilled with her safe recovery. Thank you to all. Joining me today, fbi special agent justin talmeo. Brian okeefe, baron County District attorney brian wright. Douglas county sheriff tom dolbek. Jayme is safe and the family is asking you respect their privacy at this extremely emotional time. Also in a few minutes youll hear from the superintendent on a message from the school. Please respect no media on School Property today, please. This case remains a team effort from the beginning, ill never be able to thank all the agencies and businesses, individuals that helped on this case. With their singular focus to bring her home. Yesterday there was a lot of confusion with an erroneous social media post about 4 30 p. M. This was an incident in the county, but had no connection to this case as reported in facebook. Shortly after i posted that jayme was not involved in that incident, my detectives were alerted, a 911 call was being given out in Douglas County responding to a person claiming they had found jayme. Im going to bring up the Douglas County sheriff and hell address this part of the incident. Sheriff . Thanks, chris. My agency received a 911 call about 4 30 yesterday afternoon from the individual who was out walking her dog. Said she was approached by a young female, claiming to be jayme kloss. This woman went to a nearby house, notified that neighbor and that neighbor called 911. My deputies responded and identified jayme as the person that approached the neighborhood. Took control of her, possession of her, put her in the safe keeping. And a short time later one of my patrol sergeants happened to find a vehicle that matched the description that she gave my deputies of the suspect and pulled the vehicle over and took the suspect in custody at that time. Beyond that, jayme was taken to a local hospital where she was looked over and examined and she was held overnight for observation. And the suspect was interviewed and subsequently brought back down here to baron county. Thats all i have right now. Thank you, sheriff. Thank you deputies for the work they helped in this case. The suspect arrested, and is currently being held in the Barron County jail. That is being held on two counts for first degree of homicide and one count of kidnapping. Brian white will give a brief comment next. Thank you, sheriff fitzgerald. I want to thank everyone with Law Enforcement for the tremendous work that they did to bring jayme home. That starts with sheriff fitzgerald and theb barron couny sheriffs department. I saw firsthand how brave, determined, and dedicated these men and women are. It has truly been an honor to see the work that they have performed as Public Servants to this community. It was only a few months ago that we as a community gathered to pray for jaymes safe return at barron high school. God has answered those prayers. The case will now be referred to the district attorneys office. Our office will review the reports and then make a charging decision. It is my intent to have a criminal complaint filed by next week. Its our job in prosecuting this case to obtain justice for james, denise, and jayme kloss. We will do so. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, da wright. This case remains very active and fluid as we stand before you today. We have fbi, dci, state patrol, Douglas County investigators and Barron County detectives actively working the scene and conducting interviews. Details will be sparse right now. We plan a 4 00 p. M. Media update with more details to be released at that time right here. As you heard, the charges of the suspect is kidnapping. Jayme was taken against her will and escaped from a residence at which she was being held and found help. We do not believe the suspect had any contact with the family. We do believe she was the only target. I can tell you the subject planned his actions and took proactive steps to hide his identity from Law Enforcement and the general public. Next i want to invite some of our partners to make a few comments. These agencies stepped forward coming here, never gave up hope, and became part of our community. I can never thank them enough. First ill bring up the special agent in charge of the fbi. Thank you, sheriff. Again, im the fbi special agent in charge of the milwaukee division. Were pleased to stand here today with our fellow Law Enforcement partners to celebrate jaymes recovery. Its an incredible day. As the sheriff said, this case was challenging given the proactive steps the subject took to avoid detection. In cases like this, we often need a big break, and it was m jayme herself who gave us that break. Wed like to thank the citizens who came forward to help save her and the fast action of the dougl douglas sheriffs department. I want to recognize the countless hours of those who never gave up on jayme. This is the outcome we like to have when a child goes missing. This is all we want to see and it happened in this case. Thanks again to jaymes family and the entire community of barron for never giving up on jayme. Today we can say that jayme kloss is home, thank you. Thank you. Next i want to bring up the Wisconsin Attorney general, josh call. Thank you, sheriff. First, let me thank sheriff fitzgerald for his incredible leadership throughout this process. Sheriff, people across wisconsin and i suspect across this country are overjoyed that jayme is finally safe. This was an effort that involved numerous Law Enforcement agencies, more than i have time to name. I want to thank everybody who participated in this investigation. I want to thank everybody in the community who volunteered, who played a role who supported this investigation and Law Enforcement. Im incredibly proud of the work that the department of justice played in assisting with this investigation. The department of justice will continue to assist as needed with the investigation and with the prosecution of this case. Thank you again. Thank you. Next well bring up Wisconsin Department of criminal investigation administrator brian okeefe. Thank you, sheriff. Good morning. A lot of thank yous for everybody. I want to say first thank you to the media also for helping out. You guys have been present here, but you have also been a great resource with Law Enforcement, getting the message out regarding jayme. Thats incredible. Thank you to you. I want to say thank you to all our agents, the deputies, weve talked about it, this case had so many technical aspects that were very challenging for Law Enforcement. Everybody never blinked about putting aside their personal lives to bring a little girl home. The work that got done is really i dont think ive seen this much work done on any one case ive been involved in in my entire career. The friendships and the professionalism of all agencies at the local, state and federal level have just been beyond what anybody could really expect. The fbi brought in resources from all over the country. Doj had our resources. We are here on the ground today trying to help the community recover. Our victim witness people are up here along with those from the local and federal level. Theres a lot of people that are very emotional about the recovery of jayme. Its a happy thing. But now we have to work on the Recovery Process and we reached out to a lot of professionals to help this young lady and her family as theyre reunited. She goes through a new healing process. We ask you please respect the family today as we try to get this work through. Theyll be times for question and interviews on that later. Thank you again for everything. Thank you, brian. I want to bring up the barron superintendent to talk about the school plans. Hello, i have the honor to serve as superintendent of the Barron Area School District in Barron County. What a glorious day. This will certainly never be forgotten. Theres so much love and hugs in our district today. Its just insurmountable. Jayme has been reunited with her family and friends. There is truly nothing in the world better than that. Now i would like to take time to address a few of the common questions that have come our way last night and this morning from all of you. What has it been like in the Barron Area School District in the past months . It has been 88 days of hope for her safe return, 88 days of prayers for jayme, her family, friends, our student, staff and community. 88 days of holding onto the faith that our authorities would never give up and they certainly did not. Finally, 88 days of our Close Knit Community with the same goal in mind and that was to bring jayme home and back into our arms. I would like to thank everyone for your overflow of support that continues to come to us from local, state, federal agencies, businesses, families, along with the incredible small town connection that we have. Were truly a beautiful family. Most importantly, we want to thank jayme for being so courageous and for achieving an opportunity to find her way back to us what an extraordinary young lady. What is the support like in our district was another question that was quite common. The support for our School District has been nothing less than exceptional. The teamwork from our administration, our sro, supervisors, counselors, School Psychologists and Faith Partners from our district as well as other neighboring districts has and continues to successfully address the distinguished needs of our students, teachers, bus drivers, support staff, as well as our entire community. The department of Justice School safety team was the second call i received last evening. It came to me minutes after i received that miraculous call from sheriff fitzgerald. Who was immediately assessing our needs in the district after he gave me this news. The doj office of School Safety has partnered with us to insure our students, staff and the Larger School Community receive the support that we need to feel safe during this investigation. The office of School Safety has provided onsite support to barron School District in the form of School Psychologists trained in crisis response, therapy dogs, Additional School resource officers and Emergency Management guidance. The office of School Safety has also contacted their partner, safe and sound schools, to help us deliver training and provide support to our School Community regarding crisis response, trauma, as well as recovery. In addition to the doj office of School Safety, we are also grateful to the police departments, National Association of School Psychologies and safe and sound schools. One last question thats been asked that i would like to address. Will our district be holding a celebration or ceremony in the community of any sort. All i can say to that at this time is you Better Believe it. You Better Believe it. Jayme, we missed you and we are so grateful you are home. Thank you. Before i take questions and well have to really with well get to them, dont worry. I have some thank yous. They will never be enough. Thank you to jayme for having the will to survive. Jaymes family for their patience in keeping their faith in us. The people who rescued jayme yesterday. The Douglas CountySheriffs Office and all their work yesterday. All the Law Enforcement agencies locally and across the nation that helped us with the tips. The general public for their support of jayme. From Jayme Facebook groups to those who fed us, to the posters who went up around town. The students and teachers for their notes and Beautiful Tree lighting. State patrol and all the other agencies that assisted us. To the members of my team, the dispatches that took the tips, patrol officers for following up on the tips and the detectives who continue to work in the field today. Lastly my family for all their support and understanding over the past three months. This has been an awesome day and i cant thank you, the media enough either. I got lots of texts last night, tips of support. Not looking for information, just saying our newsroom is crying with you. That was pretty awesome. Its been a tremendous day. Well be posting pictures and handing out pictures very shortly of the suspect. We also will email this out. This is the suspect currently in the Barron County jail. Our pios will be passing it out and well email it to the press and put it on our facebook page. So with that, many of us are here, available to answer questions. Again, lets try to do it in somewhat yes . You are or the other sheriff talked about jaymes demeanor and condition in those moments when she was found. What did she look like . What did she sound like . How is she right now, a description about her . I can talk about now, she is good. Shes been cleared from the hospital. There is a reunification process in place going on right now that includes medical, mental evaluations, questioning by detectives and fbi and dci agents and reunification with family. When will that take place . Its in process right now. Part of it is in place. We hope to have her back here in Barron County this morning or early afternoon. What happened to her the last three months . Do you know that yet . We do not know that. This group behind me does not have that information. We are this is a very active and fluid case. Were serving search warrants at this moment in gordon and other areas for vehicles. Looking for evidence. Again, that, we hope to release a lot more of that information at 4 00. [ inaudible question ] thats what were trying to figure out now. We believe there was really none. No contact. Do you know if they knew each other prior to this . I dont know that. Were waiting for that. We think at 4 00 well be able to release more information about that. Any connection to Law Enforcement, any criminal history . Jake patterson had zero criminal history locally and in the state of wisconsin. [ inaudible question ] were not looking for any additional suspects. Was gordon on your radar before this . No. [ inaudible question ] we dont have that yet, that will be set after we file our criminal complaint. Sometime next week, a day next week. Did jayme explain how she was able to get away yesterday . She is currently doing that with our detectives now. I dont have that. I know she did escape from the home and did find help. To see her escape by herself, what is that like . That is the will of a kid to survive. Its the unthinkable. I mean, its just you guys know, understand the fake news thats out there and you guys get bombarded with it. We just had it prior to this. I mean, i wasnt done with the first tip about shes not in this county. I mean, my head spins, as you have seen for the last 88 days. Its amazing the will of that 13yearold girl to survive and escape. That comes from the hope and the prayers and this community and what everybody did. I think whats very interesting is she was recognized immediately by both the female walking the dog and the people at the house because of the work that we did, the public did, and the media did. I think that cant go untalked about here. I mean, that was remarkable that people recognized her. Just what we wanted to happen, happened. [ inaudible question ] she left by foot, the scene. The suspect has several vehicles, were currently evaluating those vehicles. Yes . How did she become a target of this alleged suspect . We were just briefed on that by our detectives. Thats what theyre trying to figure out right now with both interviews of the person weve arrested, mr. Patterson, and the interviews with jayme. Does he have any ties to barron . He does have a tie to Barron County. You said that jayme was held in the hospital overnight. Are there any signs of physical abuse . I do not know the answer to that. All i know is shes medically cleared at this time. Shes available to our detectives to start the second part of the reunification process, which is the interview that they are conducting at this time so that we can bring her home. What steps did the suspect take to not get caught . We cant comment on that yet. One, we havent been briefed on that. We just know that he has taken some measures to avoid detection from both Law Enforcement and the public. Was he in one area the whole time with jayme . We dont know that. It appears that way, but we dont know, we cant confirm that completely yet. There was a 911 call made from the home . Do we know who made the call . I havent been told who made the 911 call. [ inaudible question ] i mean, it was first unreal and is it true . When we confirmed with the sheriffs team that its confirmed it was her. My legs started to shake, man. It was awesome it was just the stre stress and relief. It was awesome. I dont have a different word. I mean, just fabulous. It was just great. [ inaudible question ] i dont know. My wife and kids are here so i have to be careful. It ranks right up there, ill tell you that. It was awesome to call diane to tell the da to talk to these guys that have been theyre just not cops. Theyre part of this community. When the special agent in charge said were a part of this community, when brian okeefes guys come up and theyve been part of this community, theyve been part of it for 88 days. They didnt come here monday until noon and come back on friday. They worked every single day of the week on this case. It was tremendous effort by these people behind me. This is a team. You guys are part of it. So thank you. Is there anyone else in pattersons home . There was no one else in the home. He was arrested [ inaudible question ] where did mr. Patterson get arrested . Just down the road from the residence. Did he surrender peacefully . Yes. Was he looking for her . I dont believe so. As he confessed to anything . Hes being interviewed, i dont know the answer to that. Did jayme identify the suspect from the hospital room or wherever, did she identify the suspect . I dont know the answer to that question. [ inaudible question ] i dont know the answer to that question. Does he own the house . I dont know the answer to that. Do you know if jayme was inside the home when her parents were killed. She was. [ inaudible question ] i dont know that answer, thats what the search warrant is for as we speak. Who was your first phone call to . Good question. My chief deputy. Because i had to remember. The familys reaction when you called them . The familys reaction . We were able to coordinate efforts on that because we had a reunification plan in place. We were able to do the family in lady smith, some of that family was at a basketball game here in barron. We sent three teams out. I got to tell Jennifer Smith we had the sheriff and a detective tell the family in lady smith and then my chief did the family that was at the basketball game here. They broke down. I mean, it was they had heard about the fake news. They thought we were coming to confirm that. It wasnt her, dont worry. When we said she was found safe and alive. Tears and lots of hugs. [ inaudible question ] based on limited information i have, i believe she was the target. From our detectives, i dont know how they got that information. Did they have any contact on social media . Doesnt appear to be. [ inaudible question ] expand on that, like what did the suspect do . [ inaudible question ] so i dont know what he did right afterwards, his immediate what he did with jayme immediately after. I dont know. Where they went, i dont know if theres a secondary location. Thats again [ inaudible question ] have we recovered adweap wea . I dont know at this time. [ inaudible question ] shes a 13yearold girl and im the sheriff of this county and my job is to make sure everybodys safe. These guys all take the same hope. Theres no reason to give up hope. We didnt have evidence to show she was injured or hurt at the scene. There was no reason to give up hope. That Tree Lighting ceremony at the school, those kids believe. When kids believe, its easy for adults to believe. Does it appear that he had any Mental Health issues . I have no idea on that question. [ inaudible question ] its a home in a remote area thats all i know, outside of gordon, wisconsin. Was she there the entire time . We dont know that answer. [ inaudible question ] i dont have an answer. How did the suspects know jayme in the first place . I dont know that answer, our detectives are figuring that out as we speak. [ inaudible question ] we dont believe there was contact there. When you say contact does that mean physical contact . Or any any relationship, never had met them . Doesnt appear to be. You believe he went there with the intention of abducting her and did whatever he had to do to do so . It appears so. Did that 911 call two more. Two more questions. [ inaudible question ] i think because of the steps he took. What weve been briefed on, again, i cant comment until we confirm a lot of that. I dont want to tell you something and have to change my story. But its a remote area. There isnt a lot of houses in that area. You know, he not only concealed his identity from us, he concealed it appears he concealed her from other people, also. His friends [ inaudible question ] i dont know the answer to that. Thats a question i want answered. [ inaudible question ] he was not employed at this current time. How far did she have to walk from where she was held . Do you know, sheriff, how far she had to walk . I dont know that. We dont have that answer. [ inaudible question ] doesnt appear any connection to jenny. A brave little girl, but can you tell us anything about what the last three months have been like for her . Is there fear in her eyes . I have not seen her, talked to her. Again, that process is taking part. Well be back at 4 00. Thank you guys all again. Appreciate it. [ applause ] an awesome day summarizing, the sheriff, the way a lot of people feel about the fact that 13yearold jayme closs has been found and the man they believe killed her parents and kidnapped her and kept her hostage for the past three months is behind bars. Were covering this developing story from every angle. Ron mott is in wisconsin. Nancy grace is a legal commentator and the founder of crimeonline. Com. Cliff van zant is a former fbi agent who was also kidnapped when he was young. Alicia kosokovic was raped and kidnapped as a child. After four days she was rescued by the fbi and shes now a child safety advocate. Alicia, i want to start with you because you were also 13 years old when you were kidnapped. When you heard the news about jayme and you watch this press conference, what goes through your mind . It was amazing to sit here and to watch that. You could feel the joy in that room. You could field how much of a miracle that this was. But you could also feel that the hope was never given up. That her family, that Law Enforcement, the media, nobody has ever given up hope on jayme. Here we are. Shes rescued, shes home. Its extraordinary to me that a 13yearold girl finds it within herself to survive this. In this case to escape from this. What would you want jayme to know about the future . First, jayme is so brave to have gotten away. Shes so, so brave. I have every faith in the world that she is going to get through this and that she is going to recover. This girl is filled with bravery and resilience. Jayme, welcome home. This is going to be a long, hard road. What i really hope is that people protect her privacy. That we hear that all the time. Please respect our privacy at this time. But often its not. Its really hard to find your way when theres cameras and bright lights in the way. I remember when Elizabeth Smart i was in the courtroom the first time she spoke publicly. It was in her own way in her own time that she was ready to describe what had happened to her. I think everyone will respect that. I hope they will respect that. Let me go back to ron mott and reset the stage. Three months and you heard the emotion of every Single Person who spoke. So desperately wanting her to be found and found alive over the last three months. Tell us a little bit about what we do know and what we still dont know. Because as im hearing from them, theres another press conference where we may learn more this afternoon. Reporter a little bit later this afternoon. I can tell you, having been here in the days and weeks after she disappeared and the horrible murder of her father and her mother, there was a tremendous amount of energy in and around barron, wisconsin, to try to find this 13yearold. Thousands of people volunteering, stopping anything they were doing at the time to go out on these searches off the main road looking for a clue, any clue that could give authorities some place to look for her. After 3,500 tips that poured into this department, they had no idea where jayme was. Somehow she made her way out of that house where shed been held captive we presume for the entirety of this search about an hours north of here in gordon. All the superlatives that are in websters dictionary will be used Going Forward because so many of these cases sadly do not end this way, with a happy bit of news. That is certainly what people are waking up to this morning, went to bed last night. This is the suspect. This image will be going out visually to the media here in just a bit. This is the 21yearold who was arrested and will be charged in this case, jake patterson. Unemployed, 21 years old from gordon. Looking at the picture, a hair under six feet tall. Police say he was not employed at the time this happened. The sheriff mentioning he took steps to conceal his identity and also to conceal the fact he was holding jayme there. I tried to get a question out of him. I was in the back of the room and wasnt able to get a follow up to the sheriff. But wanting to find out if there was any prior contact between the suspect and jayme and the sheriff got several a variety of several questions aimed at that. He said there does not appear to have been any contact before then. Of course, if you all step back and take a deep breath here, thats remarkably scary to know that if this is, indeed, what happened, this suspect followed her, preyed on her and then decided at 1 00 in the morning to go into that family home, kicking the door down and then shooting and killing both her parents. You might recall there was a cell phone call to 911 that was made by denise closs and by the time the police responded, they took four minutes to get there, both parents were dead and jayme was nowhere to be found. Stunning news is one of the words were going to hear over and over that she was found alive and we hope well. A couple things that stood out here, that the sheriff said. First of all, she was the only target. Her parents were brutally murdered and he took many steps to hide his identity and avoid detection. What do you take away from the press conference . We know this cabin or house he held the victim in was in a rural area and there were very few houses that were occupied year round there. And you make the point, chris, that ive held onto. The sheriff said that she was this was a planned event. She was targeted. Another report says that at 12 30, 1 00 when the intruder came to the home, that it looks like he kicked in the door, immediately shot the victims father, shot the mother and took the girl. Were told that theres no social Media Contact between the victim and her kidnapper. That the family, surviving family members do not know this individuals name or have any knowledge of him. So it looks like it may be one of these one way targeted events. Of all the kidnappings, missing persons we have in the united states, about 100 a year or a little bit less are actually stranger abductions. Which this case, now appears to be. The question of course is going to be why did he target her . Why of all the children, all the people, why did this man zero in on her . Of course, how was he able to hold her for 88 days . We know someone like jc duggart in california was literally held for years. 18 years i think. Elizabeth smart was held for nine months. I mean, i look at him and i think how does he do this . You have some of the best minds in the country working on this. You have the emotion of a community. You have all the people who have turned out. Weve seen it so many times before. You and i have talked about this, whether its, you know, the girls in cleveland, right, who were held for years. Elizabeth smart. Its just again, i go back to them. I go back to those girls who somehow found it within themselves the strength to not just survive this but when they had an opportunity to escape, certainly in the case of jayme, they took that opportunity, they found it within themselves to take that opportunity and get the hell out. Yeah, and thats what it appears this girl did. You know, you preface this that i have been taken when i was a child. I was taken off the street by an abductor when i was very young. I was able to, just what you say, get the hell out. I was able to run a, to escape,o get away from this guy before i was seriously assaulted. Other people have had the experience. In this case, we were told she was locked up, she was confined, she was held in this house. This is a lot of planning. Just like the cleveland case, you reference where those women were held and this guy who would make a hamburger run and bring them hamburgers and thats all they had to go. Theres a lot of logistics in being a kidnapper and Holding Someone for almost three months. Thats the planning phase i think the sheriff is talking about. If this guy didnt have a job, it looks like his job might have been planning a kidnapping and how he could conceal it. Of all the hundreds of Law Enforcement personnel that were working this case, maybe the pressure of the police, the fbi impacted this guy. But we still have the resolve of a 13yearold girl to escape, to live after going through the most traumatic event, the loss of her parents that anyone could do. This girl still had the tenacity to stay alive, to get away. God bless her. According to the milwaukee star tribune, they report she was very skinny, malnourished. She obviously somehow found the strength to do that. Nancy grace, we can agree that theres a special place in hell for people who prey on children. Youve covered far too many of these cases. Whats your thought as you watch that press conference . Well, one thing that strikes me is the continued questions regarding do you think jayme closs had anything to the with the fact she was kid napped and her parents were murdered. He could not have said it more than he did. Nothing suggested that she was connected to this guy, jake thomas patterson, nor did they find any social media suggesting there was a connection. I mean, if you think it through, this guy came in, kicked the door down, did two precision kills, had a get away car ready, took her, she didnt even have a pair of shoes with her, which tells me this was not something she was planning. She had a flat affect as well. We know thats very common. Ive seen it many, many times. Children that have been molested or mistreated. Not only that, the way she appeared. The fact that she was so thin, that her hair was matted. She was filthy wearing shoes too big for her. I have no doubt from what we know right now this had nothing to do with a plan on jayme closs part. What happened to him now . Put on your legal hat. What happens now . Hes looking at two murder one charges. And we cant escape it. Its the elephant in the room. When you have a stranger on stranger kidnapping of a child, the motivation is almost always sexual. I would not be surprised if additional counts are added. I think there will be more than just three these three counts. Hell have his first appearance next week. I think that it will be at that juncture we hear more legally. But hes looking at more charges than this. Its my understanding and waiting to be confirmconfirmed, this was a home he had lived in with his family that the parents had moved away. It was still theirs. And that he had a brother, that there were other people there. But very few this is a big logging community. Where they were, a lot of homes were vacant in the winter months. This is something that he planned out very well. Far beyond a 13yearold little girl. One of the things that struck me. You look at these cases and there are children who dont survive very long. I dont remember the exact statistics. Its horrible. You probably do, about the stranger upon stranger . Typically stranger on stranger kidnapping, not parental, not your aunt, your uncle. Stranger on stranger, its around 75 of these children dont make it past three hours. Yeah. You have a guy who is clearly violent . He went in and killed her parents. Horrible. Horrible. When i think of them saying this child had a flat affect. Do you know what that means . Shes numb. Shes numb. And the first thing she said to this woman, she said i was kidnapped. A man shot both my parents. You know what . I have two children that are 11, my twins. Shes not much older than them. Can you imagine them wandering through a strange neighborhood filthy with their hair matted . Coming up to someone and saying a man shot both my parents . It burns me up that people are online, haters online suggesting this child had anything to do with this. Its awful. Im so glad that the sheriff brought this point up. Because, again, i was reading the wisconsin newspapers. Several people made the point that there may not have been a person in wisconsin who did not know what she looked like. Who was not constantly reminded that she was out there. That there were still searches ongoing for her. That there was still an investigation. That social worker who was out just walking her dog said that there was really no doubt in her mind. So they go again, this is a rural area. Its a logging community. They go to a nearby house. They spot a house, they need to get to a phone and call 911. And the people open the door, they had no doubt in their mind that this was jayme. So you cannot understate the overstate the importance of keeping these stories alive. Thats absolutely correct. Because this is another very important key factor. Its this. Within about ten minutes, based on getting that 911 call, they were already out looking for this guy in his vehicle. Remember, he has outsmarted the police and all their efforts now for 88 days. They moved quickly . Because Everybody Knows jayme closs is back. Theyre not holding her over at juvenile hall. That tells me right there that they do not think she had anything to do with this. Look, she wasnt spotted at a seven 11 or having ribs at tgi fridays with this guy. She was filthy, with matted hair with no shoes begging for help. Lly in virginia, Tammy Leitner in florida and morgan is in burbank, california. What did you find . Reporter theres a lot of pain out here, a lot of people being impacted by the shutdown. Thats true here in virginia, an hour outside of washington, d. C. I spent a little time with daryl floyd, who is one of the furloughed workers. Yesterday was supposed to be payday for him, but that check didnt come because of the Government Shutdown. So hes feel iing financial pai of that. Hes worried about paying bills, buying groceries and if it stretches on, how they pay for their house. But on top of all of that, hes also dealing with his wifes cancer battle. Take a listen to what he had to say about the emotional toll this is take oing on him. Its stressful. Sometimes Blood Pressure just your stress. You want the best. Then im worried about my wife. And chris, he says he doesnt care who caves, but someone cell transplant. Thank you so much for that. Tammy leitner, you dont have to be a federal employee to feel the devastating effects of the shutdown. Youre at the Kennedy Space center. A lot of the workers there are contractors. What are they tellingr yeah, Th Contractors have a accomplicomp situation because they are not guaranteed back pay when this ends like federal employees. Now we spoke with two families that work here at the Kennedy Space station. Neither family is working right now. One family has a nest egg. The other family, the are you worried . Yes, very much so. Now judy smith suffers from seizures. And she needs to pay for medicine. So her husband is considering getting a second job to take care of paying for her medicine. And so right now, every week that they are not getting a paycheck is putting her health at risk. Chris . Thats the story were hearing over and over again. Thank you for that. Morgan is in burbank, california, where he spoke with a furloughed faa inspector. Airports, obviously, you have the tsa, air traffic controllers, whats the situation there . Reporter and worried and frustrated with the situation right now. We have spoken with officials here at the Burbank Airport and said travelers see delays, but thats not the case nationwide. Due to the reduced staffing on tsa officials, in miami they have had to close down a concourse because they dont have the man power to handle the travelers infaa, specifically 3 federal aviation inspectors, tasked with making sure the planes are safe to go in the air, making sure pilots are certified and facilities can handle the planes coming in and out, we spoke with one of those inspectors, a former navy pilot, who after ten years in the navy wanted to serve his country in the role of inspector. Hes been sitting at home for the past two weeks. He doesnt know what hes going to do. Heres what he had to say when we asked him about whats going through his head regarding the shutdown. Personally, yeah, im absolutely frustrated. I hoped the department of transportation would be funded. I would hope that the faa would be seen as essential employees. What we do is critical to the national air space. I dont think its moral to use aviation safety and the safety of the American People as a bargaining chip. Reporter they wrote a letter to the Trump Administration yesterday urging them to let workers get back to work.
