Thats where he wants to be spending his time and emergency. Learning now from a person who is familiar to the invitation to a group of about a dozen republican law makers in michigan who are set to come to the white house on friday to meet with him. The board of canvassers unanimously certified the Election Results. They dont get takebacks. You say legal and ethical. Do you believe what the president is doing is interfering with the election process . Do you believe hes now interfering with the election process and the way its certified from a legal point of view . Is he violating the law . The president has sought to undermine the integrity of the election process for months, way before election day when he undermined the confidence in voting, undermined the postal service. Why is it not Going Forward if everyone is committed to improving american lives . I will say that Mitch Mcconnell needs to come to the negotiating table and stay at the negotiating table. Maybe hes a bit confused because donald trump has wavered back and forth about what hes going to do. One moment saying lets get a package done. The next moment saying were done with this negotiation. I think Mitch Mcconnell has demonstrated his unwillingness to stay at the table. Do you think that will help the Biden Administration address the struggles of native americans in this country . First of all i want to say that congresswoman deb haaland is so qualified for this specific position from the decades of work that she has done with native communities, to her time as the chair of the subcommittee on federal lands in the Natural Resources committee. Deb haaland is a phenomenal candidate. When you stack on top of that the fact that she knows so much about the relationships between tribal nations and the government, she would make a fantastic adviser in the Biden Administration. Are you concerned about the equitable distribution of vaccine to native communities . Have you got assurances from the Incoming Administration or the Outgoing Administration . Im glad you asked about this. When we think about the native community neies in this country equity, we have a lot of work to do. There are so many tribal communities that right now are suffering just devastating impacts of this pandemic. People across the country are feeling the devastating impacts of this pandemic. At the end of the day we have to make sure in addition to getting the relief that they need, whether were talking about ppe, making sure that people have running water. When you ask about the Navajo Nation, theyve been fighting to get water access for a long time. These are issues that have been in place and people have been fighting for since before the pandemic and this has exacerbated that. When it comes to a vaccine, i think one of the most important things we need to recognize is that every day that this Current Administration puts off the beginning of a transition, that hinders, not just native communities, but all communities in getting equitable access to a vaccine and the ppe, the testing supplies and all the other stuff we need to be getting to folks. So many people may be wondering how so many people in a Single Family got sick. Can you tell us how this happened . It started in september. First a cousin of valentine passed away. Then later on that month his father passed away also. So its just a mixture of deaths. Its not one particular thing. A number of them are older. His father was 90. There are older members of the family. There are a number of younger members of the family, some of them that have to work and choose between do i work and provide for the family or do i stay home and then not have money to pay the bills . Its very tough. His father was in a nursing home. The second one that contracted covid there and he died very quickly, within a week. Heart breaking. Valentine, can you talk about that . The family couldnt be there for him or be with him when he died. I was going to ask you about those final moments. Were you able at all to speak to him while he was in the hospital . Was the hospital at least trying to accommodate that situation for you . I know that you havent been able to attend the funerals for those who have passed. How hard has it been to not be able to share the grief with family members . The hospital was very helpful. We did a zoom with the families, my siblings and we were able to t do that on the fourth day he was there. He started getting weaker. After that no one was able to see him. We did get his last rights, which was very important for us that he took part in that. David, the cdc is urging americans not to travel for thanksgiving and to consider canceling plans with relatives outside their households. What would you tell people who are considering taking a risk and having relatives over given everything that your family has gone through . Blatantly dont take the risk. Youll have many more thanksgivings and christmases to be able to spend with your family. If you take that risk now, you may not have that opportunity to spend another thanksgiving or christmas with those family members. Wouldnt you rather have many more thanksgivings and christmases with your family than to squander this one thanksgiving and be selfish to yourself and your family by traveling oh, i want to see them so bad.
