Hunt. Another one. The first one failed. Theyre all failing. This one is just absolutely crazy. This is a open and shut simple case. Theyre desperate because they know theyre going to lose the election. I think were going to take the house based on whats happening with the impeachment stuff. A lot to unpack here. Joining me from the white house, nbcs kelly odonnell. Kelly, President Trump was suggesting that Speaker Pelosi launched this inquiry because democrats are desperate because they know theyre going to lose the election. He also said just a few hours ago that democrats are going to lose the house over impeachment. He said it, in fact, a couple of times. I mean, does the white house really believe they have a winning hand here . Reporter well, theres certainly a case for the president to do his own spin on the politic hearse and of course the president loves to brand and label things in extreme terms. So hes certainly done that with the impeachment inquiry. There is a broad argument to make that if impeachment were not popular among voters in the country, that there could be a backlash against the party leading that at the ballot box. But that doesnt really square up with where polling is at present with a lot of americans saying they believe the impeachment inquiry should go forward. Thats not to say that they would also support removing the president but theres a sizeable number for that, as well. So this is President Trump fighting back on terms that he can work with. Yeah. I think his base will respond to that. But certainly, Speaker Pelosi has made clear that issues related to the election, ideological differences, and many of the other things where democrats would criticize the president should be separate. And that shes encouraged her caucus to focus on the constitutional questions when it comes to impeachment and we know that she did feel a certain reluctance to move forward with impeachment prior to the facts associated with the ukraine call and all these new things weve learned about in the last month, chris. Yeah, in the meantime, the white house is conducting were told its own internal review. Trumps advisors reportedly beginning some kind of factfinding review. And some say there are concerns that its actually a hunt for a scapegoat. What do we know about this internal investigation . We dont know a great deal at this point except that the white house counsel, pat, and the acting chief of staff nick mulvane are said to be involve understand this. Trying to learn more about the steps. Particularly, in how the summary of the ukraine call. The sort of reconstructed conversation, not a verbatim transcript, but a good summary of what was said on the call found its way on to the highlyprotected server that required code word access. The kind of place where typically government secrets and very Important Information that is typically at the highest level of classification would be kept. Not necessarily the domain of calls that were congratulatio looking at that now, when you have an internal review, that can understandably make everybody inside nervous about where will that land . Will they try to assign blame somewhere . Will they try to find a scapego scapegoat. Some people have suggested is this a hunt for a whistleblower . Well, the whistleblower one no longer detailed to the white house. So not physically an employee here any longer. It seems certainly the inquiry on capitol hill has been less focused on whistleblower one. So it could be one of those situations where the white house is trying to find some of its own answers and also to suggest that they might need to better prepare for all of the developments that may come on the capitol hill side. So they may want to get some of their own answers locked up internally first. Speaking of those answers on capitol hill, let me go to garrett who is standing by for us. I understand that you are hearing, garrett, that the former top advisor to secretary of state mike pompeo, Michael Mckinley whos been testifying throughout the day before house investigators may be wrapping up. The one thing that we had heard about that is that he was joining in on the people who were really unhappy with the ousting of the former ambassador to ukraine. What can you tell us . Are these live pictures were looking at here . Yeah. Yeah. But i can tell you Mike Mckinley has left the building. Our team was following him as he tried to get out of that underground room a few floors below me after several hours of testimony today. Mckinley, our understanding, came into this as something of a context witness. He was going to describe the situation at the state department under mike pompeos leadership particularly over the last couple of months. We are told that he was particularly upset about the sidelining of marie yovanovitch, the now former ambassador to ukraine. And more broadly, the concern that the state department was being worked around by the white house, by Rudy Giuliani, and by other actors. Mckinley was essentially a state department lifer. 37 years in the department. Ambassador to multiple Different Countries and someone upset to see his department treated the way it was by this administration. With him out of the building, that is the way these things have gone over the last week and a half or so. This is when i suspect we will start hearing from members who are not supposed to talk about what goes on in those rooms but inevitably do. So we should learn more about his testimony in the next few hours. Come back to us if you get anything for us. Thank you for that. Kelly odonnell at the white house. Thanks to you as well. I want to bring in emma palmar who is senior washington correspondent for politico. Hes also one of the conservative attorneys who signed that letter calling for an expeditious impeachment probe of President Trump. The white house has been pretty defiant throughout this entire process. Speaker pelosi arguing that executive privilege does not apply when its an investigation into the president s misconduct. The white house says theres been no vote to start the impeachment inquiry and nancy pelosi affirmed last night she wasnt willing to do that. No real precedent here. Is there legal ground to force the white house to comply with these subpoenas . There might be. I mean, if you go back to the case of United States against nixon, the Supreme Court did uphold a subpoena for the for the records. The white house tapes records. So there is some authority. But most of this stuff exists by custom. Its usually its usually worked out. However, if the administration continues to stonewall and the story the underlying narrative doesnt hold up and apparently its not, then the house is going to be prepared is going to be prepared to act. And were, of course, in a highly fluid situation but even at this point, one i think would be able to argue successfully that theres probable cause to believe that high crimes and misdemeanors have been committed in several ways. So this afternoon, stuart, we learned that rick perry, the energy secretary, would not commit to answering a subpoena. And i want to play for you a couple pieces of sound from senator Lindsey Graham on the issue of congressional subpoenas. First, during the Clinton Administration and now during trumps. The day Richard Nixon failed to answer that subpoena is the day that he was subject to impeachment because he took the power from congress over the impeachment process away from congress and he became the judge and jury. 20 years ago, you said that yeah. Nothings changed. But he acknowledged that nothing has changed. One of the things that you wrote along with the other conservative lawyers in that letter is we believe its important there be loyal opposition from the conservative side in defense of the rule of law. We feel duty bound to be able to do it. There comes a Tipping Point where you look at this and say my country first. The party comes second. Though, are you seeing any signs now of any Real Movement in that direction . Notwithstanding what we just heard somewhat reluctantly from li Lindsey Graham. I am. Certainly, the evidence is piling up that there is certainly probable cause to believe that the president acted in his own selfinterest rather than in the countrys with respect to a clear quid pro quo. But across that canvas is now being written the difficulties caused by the president with respect to turkey and syria. There are a lot more military families, veterans, people with military backgrounds in the red states than there are in the blue states. And you can see some reaction on the part of red state senators. And so it suggests that there might indeed be movement. Perhaps for some Different Reasons but with respect to the probable cause about high crimes and misdemeanors, violation of the oath of office, violation of the take care clause of the constitution. Acting for ones personal interest rather than the countrys. There certainly would seem to be enough evidence to go forward. Lets talk a little more, anna, about what weve seen over the last couple days in terms of this testimony in this impeachment inquiry. The Deputy Assistant secretary of state responsible for ukraine, george kent, reportedly told investigators he was told specifically to lay low. Focus on the other countries in his portfolio so that volkar, who were told call themselves the three amigos, took the lead on ukraine. So youve got the energy secretary, the ambassador to the eu, the special u. S. Envoy working together and now were learning meeting with acting white house chief of staff mick mulvaney. This was not some rogue operation Rudy Giuliani was in by himself, right . Well, we can talk about him separately but certainly youre right there. Anna, what can you tell us about that . Yeah, kris. I whats really interesting over the last couple days is you really see the Building Blocks that democrats are trying to make in this case towards impeachment and this march toward impeachment of how similar all the testimony is sounding. You know, youre really starting to get a little more meat on the bones about who the actual people were that were involved all the way up to acting chief of staff. The fact that you had john bolton then. National security advisor very concerned about what was going on with the ukraine. And all of a sudden, what you see is really kind of the whole scope and that it wasnt just a rogue lawyer for the president in the name of Rudy Giuliani making his own case. It was really truly at the highest levels of the white house and at some of the agencies and in the diplomatic corps. And the president had a wide ranging conversation well, actually, two with the press today. He was asked about his meeting, anna, yesterday with the parents of that 19yearold harry dunn who was killed by the wife of a u. S. Government official who then fled under diplomatic immunity. Now, this young mans parents say they were blindsided when they went to the white house because the woman who admitting hitting their son was in another room waiting to meet with them. Take a listen. We werent ready to meet her. We felt a bit rushed and so was in a different room . Yes. Yeah. And he expected you to meet her without warning . I think thats what he wanted. Yeah. My meeting with the family was really it was beautiful in a certain way. She lost and they lost their son. I believe it was going down the wrong way because it happens in europe. You go to europe and the roads are opposite. If youre from the United States, you do make that decision to make a right turn where youre supposed to make a left turn. The roads are opposite. And she said thats what happened. That happens to a lot of people by the way. But she said thats what happened. She was in the room right out there. We met right here. I spoke with boris. He asked if id do that and i did it. Unfortunately, they wanted to meet with her and unfortunately when we had everybody together, they decided not to meet. Perhaps they had lawyers involved by that time. I dont know exactly. I know the people were lovely. They were very nice and they were, you know, desperately sad. But, anna, they tell a completely different story. Their lawyer tells a completely different story than the president is saying. And the family had already said they wanted sicolas back in the in the us before theyd meet with her. By the way, the press corps as i understand it was in the other room as if the president was orchestrating some sort of tv moment here. I mean, it really seems as such. Its not that surprising. Theres so many moments where this president loves that made for tv moment. The Reality Television president and, you know, trying to be that deal maker to broker some kind of meeting between the two sides of this obviously just devastating story. And so you kind of hear trumps retelling of it in that press conference. But its not that surprising. I mean, he does this often times and it really seems to work out at least in his current capacity as president. Anna palmar, stuart, great having both of you on fotoday. Thank you so much. Coming up, senator Elizabeth Warren feeling the pain. Heavy scrutiny and target attacks from her rivals. Were looking at the impact of the debate last night and whats next. Plus, well take you to a refugee camp in Northern Iraq scrambling to accommodate the sudden influx of about 800 stirrian kur syrian kurds. Why some of them are saying they feel betrayed by the u. S. And if you go just by the number of attacks, this is interesting. The Democratic Party has a new frontrunner because senator Elizabeth Warren was targeted 16 times by her opponents directly during last nights debate. Thats according to an nbc news count. But former Vice President joe biden, who was the top target in the past, only attacked twice. Sometimes i think that senator warren is is more focused on being punitive or pitting some part of the country against the other. I appreciate elizabeths work but, again, the difference between a plan and a pipe dream is something that you can actually get done. Your signature, snaenator, i to have a plan for everything except this. I announced this morning im joined now by nbc road warrior ali vitali. So you have abeen on the trail with her for quite a while. We have this whole new phase of the race. We saw her with a target on her back, frankly. But we also saw this divide between her representing kind of the more liberal side of the party and biden from the more moderate side and maybe no stark than over healthcare, right . Reporter thats exactly right and weve seen that debate over the course of the past few debates. So no surprise it would be one of the central issues here because if we can just broaden a little bit and step back, look back to 2018. When democrats looked back at what helped them win back the house, they pointed to healthcare. Yes, a little of Holding Donald trump accountable but healthcare was one of the central messages that democrats point to as why they did so well then. So it makes sense as youre going into 2020, yes this election is a referendum on trump but its also a referendum in the context of what he has not been able to do on healthcare. So if democrats want to have that argument, sort of makes sense even though its to the chagrin of some democratic strategists. But thats not to say its always pretty. Look what happened last night. Will we raise taxes on the middle class for to pay for it . Yes . Or no . So i have made clear what my principles are here. That is, cost will go up for the wealthy and big corporations and for hardworking middle class families, costs will go down. We heard it tonight. A yes or no question that didnt get a yes or no answer. Well, as somebody who wrote the damn bill, as i said, lets be clear. Under the medicare for all bill that i wrote, premiums are gone. Copayments are gone. Deductibles are gone. All outofpocket expenses are gone. At least bernies being honest here and saying how hes going to pay for this and that taxes are going to go up. And im sorry, elizabeth, but you have not said that. Reporter and that attack from Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg against Elizabeth Warren about the impact on taxes in regards to this healthcare plan, i imagine this debate is not going to be the last time or the first and last time that we hear that line of attack. This is just going to keep on coming as we go further down this primary calendar. Yeah im the first to admit i read through all the reviews and ratings and clearly there was a trend that Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar, who you also cover i want to say, did very well. Is there a sense have you had a chance to talk to her or folks in her campaign that she did something thats going to give her a boost in this race . Reporter well, even if you just want to talk about an immediate boost, shes tweeting that in the hours after the debate last night, they had one of their best fundraising hours of the entire campaign. So if fundraising is the metric for success, which for some many of these campaigns, its going to allow them to stay in which is the goal for a lot of them. Then yes, the Klobuchar Campaign had a win last night in that regard. Remember, shes also not on the november debate stage yet so they need this to translate into polls in some way, shape, or form. Thats going to be important because if you the way attacks think to the first debate. We did see her get that immediate bump both in fundraising dollars and in polling but it wasnt sustained and so Amy Klobuchar doesnt necessarily need it to be sustained right now. Although, that would definitely help. She just needs it to be enough to get her on to the debate stage in november so she can continue a little bit of m momentum with her campaign. Ali vitali who looks great im guessing got an hour and a half of sleep at best. Thank you. Im joined. I had to get that in. For more by emily. Democratic strategist and host of your primary play list zirlina maxwell. And an msnbc political analyst. I want to run through these quickly. Can we start with joe biden . Because i mean, he largely wasnt attacked by his opponents. But a lot of his responses, frankly, were not easy to follow. I want to play some examples. My sons statement speaks for itself. What i think is important is we focus on why its so important to remove this man from office. On the 17th look the fact that George Washington on the first time he spoke after being elected president that what we had to worry about is foreign interference in our elections. Why in gods name should someone whos clipping coupons in the stock market make, in fact, pay a lower tax rate than someone who, in fact, is like i said a School Teacher and a firefighter . But lastly, what is happening in iraq is going to i mean, its going to be in afghanistan as well as all the way over to syria. We have isis thats going to come here. A little bit of word salad is happening in the previous debates. Clearly has not had a major impact on his campaign. Still the cofrontrunner. Wonder what you thought of joe biden last night . Im so glad this is the first question youre asking me because i probably was going to bring it up anyway. I think immediately after the debate, there was a lot of commentary about how well joe biden did and i was like were you guys watching the same thing . Because the first half of every answer was fine. But he would always trail off and meander and you got lost in, you know, him saying, look folks. Or like, you know, resetting every time he was trying to make a point. I think it was very hard to follow. And that is a problem longterm because when questions that you should be expecting, like the question about hunter biden, everybody knew that question was going to be asked. Why do you not have a prepared answer that the American People can really latch on to . And say, okay, this is bidens response to that controversy. But is it to the point where if you were Amy Klobuchar or youre Pete Buttigieg and youre more centrist and there are a lot of voters who think Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren cant beat donald trump, that it actually helps you . Or do you brush it off and say hes our best hope . I think thats where a lot of candidates see a lot of opportunity. What we know from the polls, including his, including sanders, including warren, while support may be there shows them as running above other candidates, its still soft support. And a lot of voters are saying i still have top five. I still have top three. Im still looking to see who really breaks out and connects with me. And i think thats i think basically every candidate last night started with anecdotes in almost all their answers. They phrased all their answers in talking about a particular type of story or a person they had met on the trail. And i think theyre trying to pick up those soft support voters who are still basically up for grabs. And theres always a question in these debates how hard do you go . You know, does democrat go after democrat . Do you worry about people perceiving that youre hurting somebody else who might indeed end up the nominee . There was you could call it uncomfortable moment between biden and warren over the creation of Consumer Financial protection bureau. Lets play that. I agreed with the great job she did and i went on the floor and got you votes. I got votes for that bill. I convinced people to vote for it. So lets get those things straight, too. Senator warren, do you want to respond . I am deeply grateful to president obama who fought so hard to make sure that agency was passed into law. And i am deeply grateful to every Single Person who fought for it and who helped pass it into law. But understand you did a held of a job in your job. Thank you. Zirlina just crossed her eyes. I did. Im sorry. Every woman knows what the tone of that thank you means because i found that moment to be very uncomfortable and condescending and i actually felt the tension through the television because men should just they shouldnt scream at you ever. But certainly not when theyre standing directly next to you. So there was there was a level of discomfort that i think there is a gender analysis you can overlay and say, look, you can you can disagree. You can disagree with her point or feel you did more than shes giving you credit for. But the fact of the matter is you can go to her book, you can go to all of the reporting at the time. She was right on the facts. So on top of the fact that he was yelling at her about this and saying, well, you were good at your job. You know, on the facts. You could alts say he wso sa barack obama rounding up votes. It was indeed relationships joe biden had but totally i wonder if either side helped themselves with that exchange. If it just felt uncomfortable on both sides. Im not sure. But let me ask you about senator warren criticism one of the places she faced criticism was for the language she uses surrounding the wealth tax. Senator klobuchar criticized her for acting as if shes the only candidate interested in taxing billionaires. I want to give a reality check here to elizabeth because no one on this stage wants to protect billionaires. Not even the billionaire wants to protect billionaires. We just have different approaches. Your idea is not the only idea. What do you make of that exchange . I thought it was a good moment for klobuchar. I thought she defined her values and defined the idea that shes been trying to make in a couple of different issues that theres more than one way to get to the same goal. And even if its not a specific policy, you can still support the underlying idea and support the underlying values and just have a different way to get to it. She has been trying to make that point and i actually think a couple candidates, particularly the more moderate candidates, have been trying to make that point. So i thought it really helped her. I also think that from warrens perspective, i dont know that she had the clearest answer on a lot of things. I thought every one of the attacks that came to her, she could have anticipated. Everybody knew going into this race, she is now the frontrunner and she became the frontrunner since the last debate. So every one of those attacks should have actually i thought been better anticipated and she could have had clearer answers for them. Yeah. I sometimes when ive talked to people who have done debate prep, they say often thats overpreparation. Too many cooks involved in this soup. They know the questions are coming. Theyre just i dont know theres not clarity. Im going to get in trouble. Oh, sorry. Emily. Zirlina maxwell. Thank you, both, very much. Up next, were going to go live to Northern Iraq. In a rare public and bipartisan rebuke of President Trump, the house has voted overwhelmingly to condemn the president for his withdrawal of American Forces from northern syria. And, in fact, military officials have confirmed to nbc news that u. S. Forces have been completely cleared from syria as the turkish offensive in the Northeastern Region stretched into its seventh day. Vice president and secretary of state mike pompeo will leave for turkey hoping to meet with president erdogan. But their efforts to persuade erdogan to stop his invasion of the region comes with little support from trump who distanced himself from the conflict just a little while ago. So if russia wants to get involved with the with syria, thats really up to them. They have a problem with turkey. They have a problem at the border. Its not our border. We shouldnt be losing lives over it. Were watching and were negotiating and were trying to get turkey to do the right thing because wed like to stop wars regardless whether americans are in or whether theyre not in, we want to see wars stop. Thats a very important thing on a humanitarian basis, we want to see that happen. But while all this is happening, the humanitarian crisis at the Syrian Border is intensifying. The United Nations estimates that as of sunday, as many as 160,000 people have been displaced after the Turkish Military began its offensive into the region last week. Theyre making the long journey to iraq in search of safety even as the president was saying our abandoned kurdish allies are no angels. Joining me now, nbcs matt bradley in iraq where hundreds of Kurdish People have just arrived at a refugee camp. Matt, tell us what you see, where you are, who are these refugees and what theyre telling you. Yeah, chris, i was in refugee camp where there were about 800 refugees from northeastern syria. Its by far the largest swell of refugees who have come over the border so far since this conflict started just a week ago. They were exhausted. They were terrified. And heres what they had to say to me. He says he saw tanks, he saw missiles and air strikes. He says hes been on the road for three or four days. She said that america theres no future for syria right now. And, you know, kris, the president said something earlier today to the effect of the kurds are safer than they were before. Well, they clearly arent. Otherwise, these thousands hundreds of thousands of kurds wouldnt be leaving their homes and trying to find safety elsewhere, including in Foreign Countries like iraq. Which its not a relatively safe place. Kris. Matt bradley in Northern Iraq. Thank you so much for that. Let me bring in retired four star general Wesley Clarke who previously served as nato supreme allied commander. Fosters research in discussion related to international affairs. Its always great to see you, general. Thank you. So you got congressional leadership right now meeting with the president. Members have expressed grave concerns that trump has made a dangerous strategic error. One thats going to reinvigorate isis, empower russia. I wonder what your thought is when you hear this young woman on the bus that matt just spoke to saying america has betrayed us. Its very, very painful. You know, we went into the middle east almost 20 years ago after 9 11. I thought the invasion of iraq was a mistake. But its what general colin powell said as secretary of state. Its the pottery barn rule. You break it, you own it. We broke it. Weve been trying to fix it. We had a very Good Campaign to get rid of isis and we we had the region stabilized. There was no reason for the pullback and thats obvious strategically. Maybe there was some private reason we dont know about. But there was no planning for it. And theres chaos in the region right now and worse, it affects us all over the world. All over the world, allies are looking at at at that woman and theyre thinking, well, in my country, what about ukraine . What about korea . What about taiwan . Everywhere america has touched since the second world war, weve established a reputation for credibility. We underscore it with economics but mostly its our soldiers who serve and they sacrifice and they serve and theyve bled and theyve fought and theyve died for that credibility. It looks to me like its been sort of thrown away here. And the president who was pressed on this today by reporters said its not our border. And he said the kurds are quote no angels. I want to play a little bit more of what he had to say when asked about this. Much easier for probably politically better for me just to say well leave a lot of people there and well fight. They dont even know what theyre fighting for. Im not going to get involved in a war between turkey and syria, especially when if you look at the kurds and again, i say this with great respect. They are no angels. Give us some background, general, about why this alliance has been so critical to the region, the alliance with the kurds. Well, the alliance with the kurds is what enabled the United States to go on the offensive and actually crush isis. We werent going to put 100,000 of our own troops in there. The kurds mobilized. We armed them. We supported them. We put some special ops in there. We had the air artillery reconnaissance they needed. And by taking a lot of losses, they cleared out isis. That was critical for us. But, you know, turkey and the kurds have been a controversial issue for a long time. President erdogan had this Problem Solved until he reestablished the the the central conflict as he began losing popularity. So as he lost popularity, he reinvented the kurds as an enemy. From what i read in the Foreign Press today, there are a lot of turks who think this is a really good thing that he invaded. So this is typical of an autocratic regime that uses foreign aggression to win domestic political support. But when President Trump says that we had nothing to do with it. Its not our war. Actually, we enabled it. Weve known this was coming. We couldve put the leverage on turkey before. We didnt have to agree to pull back. We werent going to be involved in a turkish kurdish war as long as we stayed there because we had the prepondrant power. Once we pulled back, we enabled the conflict. General Wesley Clarke. Always good to see you, sir. Thank you so much. Appreciate it. Thank you. Coming up, reaching a tentative deal to end a 31day strike by nearly 50,000 workers. So heres whats going to happen, kris, starting tomorrow morning in detroit. Uaws National Counsel will get together. These are Union Leadership members from around the country. Theyre going to take a look at the deal gm and the National Body agreed to this morning. And they will take a vote and the vote will be whether we send this on to the rank and file membership. We expect that to happen. The second vote is, do they go back to work while the workers, the rank and file membership, are voting on this agreement . So theoretically, after a couple days that it takes to fire up some of these plants, we could see gm workers back on the job perhaps this weekend, the first part of next week because they want to get that pay starting to roll back into their pockets as well. This strike has been costly for gm. About 1 billion and a 1 2 to 2 billion in revenue has been lost here. And this deal they struck with gm is going to be used sort of a as a benchmark, if you will, kris, for future negotiations this year and into next with ford and Fiat Chrysler because those workers are also uaw members. So this is a big deal for the gm workers here. We do expect their membership will get vote on this and its expected to probably pass. Kris. Ron, thank you for that update. One of the more interesting questions raised in last nights democratic debate should billionaires be allowed to exist . Senator Bernie Sanders pitched his plan to tax billionaires out of existence as a response to Rising Economic inequality. And maybe surprisingly the only billionaire on the stage, tom steyer, agreed. Senator sanders is right. There have been 40 years where corporations have bought this government. Thats been an attack on the right of working people and specifically on organized labor. Our government has failed. Thats why im running for president because we are not going to get any of the policies that everybody on this stage wants. Health care, education, Green New Deal or a living wage unless we break the power of these corporations. Joining me now 2020 democratic president ial candidate tom steyer. Good to see you. Your first time on the debate stage last night. And you may have seen the New York Times who got the most speaking time. You were at the very bottom. Do you feel like you took full that debate this opportunity . Since it was my first debate was just to introduce my goal was running for president , what i stand for, a little bit about myself, and what i think the future of america can look like if we accept the challenges in front of us. I think i actually got a chance to do that. So i felt very good about it. And we played your answer about income inequality. Youve raised a couple Million Dollars from individual donors. But thats lower than the Top Competitors for sure. Meanwhile, youve given your campaign more than 47 million. And, look, youve heard these questions before about whether you bought your way into the race, you bought your way onto last nights stage. What can happen now that you think will allow you to say to people this isnt just about me running a vanity campaign. I am actually gaining the support of the people who i need. For example, Amy Klobuchar said she had one of her best fundraising hours after the debate ended. Are you seeing any uptick in donations . Yes. But. Chris, if you actually look at my record, you will see that over the last ten years what ive done is organized coalitions of americans to take on the Biggest Challenges in the country. So over ten years ago i recognized that Climate Change was threatening the safety and the health of every american. And i organized coalitions to fight and beat the oil companies. I organized coalitions to fight and beat utilities. The i organized something called nex gen climate which became nex gen america. I also started the need to Impeach Campaign two years ago because i felt like the American People needed to raise our voice and make sure that the most corrupt president in American History was held to account. In every one of those cases i was using my time, my energy, and my money to organize people to take on the biggest issues in america. And thats exactly what im doing now. And a lot of American People who werent seeing yn the debat last night knew you from those impeachment ads. President trump and the rnc are touting the fact today that they have raised almost 126 million in the third quarter. And in an email telling supporters about that, the president s Campaign Manager says impeachment is a big factor for why theyre burying the democrats in fundraising. He writes the democrats reckless, illegitimate partisan impeachment farse has his supporters even more fired up. The campaign and our partnership with the rnc has never been stronger. Certainly if you measure it in dollars, their fight against impeachment has worked for them. Are you at all concerned that this is actually helping the republican cause more than yours . Chris, have you noticed that last week for the first time over half of americans not only want this corrupt president impeached but removed from office . This is the most corrupt president in American History. My argument has always been put the evidence in front of the American People. Have televised publicized hearings. Let us decide because i know for sure that when the American People see how bad he is, can see his crimes, can see his coverups, we will all decide hes a crook. Either you get rid of him or well get rid of you. I think that this is a desperate president who knows hes guilty and hes got his base trying to support him. But in fact the majority of americans have already come along to where we are in saying hes a crook, we need to get rid of him. Tom steyer, its good to see you after the debate. Thanks so much, appreciate it. Chris, nice to see you too. And democrats planning more closeddoor testimony tomorrow as their impeachment inquiry continues, although the white house plans to block their request for documents and testimony. So, whats the plan moving forward . Im joined now by congresswoman dina titus. She is a member of the House Foreign Affairs committee and the Homeland Security committee. She also has attended Michael Mckinleys. Its good to see you, congresswoman, and President Trump spoke about congressional subpoenas today. You were probably in that meeting. So let me play it for you right now. Okay. Paul ryan would never issue a subpoena. I dont say right or wrong. He wouldnt do it. He had too much respect for our country. Nancy pelosi hands them out like cookies. I dont even know these people. I dont even know who they are. I never even heard of some of them. Most of them. But i have all these people testifying. And then they leak out. They dont say the good parts. They only say the bad parts. We are not allowed to representation. We are not allowed to lawyers. We are not allowed to have anything. The democrats are treating the republicans very, very badly. So obviously the white house and the president making it very clear they are not going to comply with any congressional subpoenas. So whats your next move . Well, every day that he doesnt comply and every time he doesnt answer a subpoena or lets somebody come to testify, thats just one more example that he is obstructing justice. We will continue with this investigation. People are lining up to testify. We are getting a lot of details. But this is typical of the president. He cant defend his egregious act so he just wants to talk about the process. I know you were also today on Michael Mckinleys testimony and im wondering if theres anything that stood out to you. We had been doing some reporting that he was one of the people who was very upset about the way the former u. S. Ambassador to ukraine was removed. Well, i cannot speak directly to what he said. But i can tell you that hes a professional. Hes been in the state department for 37 years. Hes not a political hack. When you walk into that room, the gravity of the situation is just palpable. You wonder what a responsibility it is to get to the truth. The president is not living up to his responsibility or his oath of office. But congress is doing that. And we are getting the facts. Then well open it up to the public and well take a vote. So understanding you dont want to talk about the specifics, would you say that he added to your case, he strengthened your case . Well, the president made the case himself when he went on tv and talked about, you know, will you do us a favor and then asked china to do it too. But certainly the testimony that is coming out now corroborates what we already know. I also want to ask you quickly about the situation in syria because theres this i know that you all have an all classified briefing thats going to be happening tomorrow afternoon and that there has been a bipartisan outcry about this. I think we just heard from some of the folks on the republican side. Theyre very concerned about what they actually can do at this point. Do you feel, and as you have conversations with other members of congress, do you feel like what the president is doing here is just going to happen, that theres very little Power Congress would have to stop it . Well, i think what hes done is egregious. And we just passed a resolution condemning that. You saw a majority of republicans voting for that, which is very unusual for them to criticize the president. Even some of his best friends have said this is a terrible thing to do. Pulling out and not defending the kurds who have been on our sides for so long, letting russia step in. This has longtime consequences and farreaching consequences far beyond the turkish syrian boarden. Congresswoman, thank you so much. We appreciate that. Thats going to do it for us. Deadline white house with Nicolle Wallace starts right now. Hi, everyone. Its 4 00 in new york. Breaking this afternoon on the impeachment front, the growing body of evidence against the president as more witnesses from inside his Administration Speak out and tell an errily similar story about President Trumps objectives hijacking the diplomatic and National Security policy process.
