Tariffs. Im worried that the harm to our economy will be greater than the tariff effect on mexico. Do you think the white house understands how upset Congressional Republicans are about these tariffs . I think they understand the concerns very well. But trump will likely feel hes got some new ammunition to make his immigration argument. New numbers just released by customs and Border Patrol show undocumented immigrants at the southwest border during the month of may reached a 13year high. More than 144,000 and more than 132,000 were apprehended crossing the border illegally including 11,000 plus children. Joining me now is nbcs White House Correspondent kristen welker. Some of the president s biggest supporters are against this, Mitch Mcconnell is against it, ron johnson, rob portman. Ted cruz said were holding a gun to our own heads, but you heard the president , hes dug in, so where is this going . Reporter the president has been defiant, chris, there is no doubt about that. Look, the expectations game is under way here at the white house with that meeting set to get under way with top officials here and mexican negotiators to try to avert those tariffs from going into effect next monday, but the reality is based on conversations here theres not a whole lot of hope that they will be able to do that with this one meeting. So who is going to be in this meeting . We know that, of course, the foreign minister from mexico, his delegation will be there, some of those officials have already started to arrive, and then, of course, the Vice President , the secretary of state, the acting dhs secretary and other key players here who are engaged in this discussion. Not at the table, though, traveling with the president right now a number of the top officials who have been sort of at the front lines of this as well, jared kushner, Stephen Miller traveling with the president. Its tough to see anything gets done without them being in the room, but the bottom line is President Trump says he is going to move forward with imposing 5 tariffs on all mexican goods next monday unless mexico does more to crack down on the flow of migrants coming across the border. Take a listen to what he had to say in ireland earlier today. Mexico has to step up, if they dont tariffs will go on and if they go high the companies are going to move back into the united states. Its very simple. The people arent going to have to worry about paying the tax because the companies are going to move back into the united states, there wont be any tariff. Reporter so, chris, of course, the Republican Opposition as you started out saying is mounting because a number of Top Republicans say that ultimately consumers are going to bear the burden of this. Theyre going to pay more for a range of different things, everything from cars to electronics and even their groceries. They are considering and discussing the possibility of legislation that would block the president , but, of course, President Trump dismissed that during that joint press conference that he had with the british Prime Minister saying that they would be foolish to do that, chris. Kristen kewelker, thank you r that. The Democratic Front runner to run against the president is in the middle of a growing controversy at this hour over abortion. Responding to a question from nbc joe bidens Campaign Said he continues to support the Hyde Amendment. Thats a 40yearold measure that prohibits federal funding for Abortion Services except in cases involving rape, incest or saving the life of a mother. Reaction from other democrats was swift. On twitter senator Kamala Harris posted, we must repeal the Hyde Amendment. Governor jay inslee, i voted against the Hyde Amendment in 1993, it was wrong then and it was wrong now. Beto orourke tweeted a video of himself calling for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment and writing, every woman should have access to healthcare, including abortion. Other candidates spoke on the issue at their rallies today. Clearly i think the Hyde Amendment is wrong, i think that we have a nation where all these insidious things are being done to undermine womens reproductive rights in this country. I dont support the Hyde Amendment and i will lead the fight to have it overturned. Im out there fighting against the Hyde Amendment because i think thats whats right for women. And some influential progressive groups put out statements condemning bidens position. They were all calling it harmful to women. Emilys list calling it unacceptable. The Progressive Change Campaign committee agreeing, saying its unjust and discriminatory and endangers women and families. The reporter behind this story is nbc news Political Correspondent heidi przybyla. Wow, has this stirred stuff up, all coming from your reporting on joe bidens evolving voting record on abortion and as the headline on dotcom says, that record still holds surprises, doesnt it . As you can see this is coming as a surprise, this position that biden continues to hold on the Hyde Amendment, but, yes, we took a much broader look at his overall voting record growing back to the late 70s, early 80s looking at how he opposed any exceptions within the Hyde Amendment for rape and incest. He only supported the life of the mother. Lets talk about current day politics because whats happening here, chris, is that the Hyde Amendment is really becoming a bit of a litmus within the democratic primary field for democrats who are trying to show that they can come up with some way to codify roe amid this surge in state laws that are threatening access to abortion, really shutting it down in many of these rid states. Here what nbc found in the course of our reporting was, number one, we confirmed with biden, which surprised everyone, that he continues to support the Hyde Amendment. That sets him apart from all of the other candidates that we could tell. We went around did a round up and couldnt find any other candidates that still support hyde. As a matter of fact, the contrast is so bright, chris, that all of the women who are running for president in the democratic field right now, they are female senators, and they are cosponsors to legislation to actually repeal hyde. But, again, the only reason why this is happening right now and why joe biden is really on the rails on this is because of these state laws that are passing that are threatening abortion. All these candidates want to say, hey, i have a plan for protecting a womans right to choose. Now, here is the rub, once biden gets to a general election if he gets to a general election, if he is the nominee his position is actually supported by a majority of americans. The most recent polling that we have, chris, on federal funding for abortion through medicaid, which is really funding for poor women, shows that 58 of americans continue to oppose federal funding for abortion. So there you have it. Joe biden is in a bit of a pickle here, hes continuing to say that he supports hyde, but, hey, i could change my mind. Heidi przybyla thank you so much. People can find that story at nbcnews. Com. I want to bring in nancy cook and karen tumelty. You know, as heidi pointed out this plethora of new state laws aimed at effectively banning abortion and also the makeup of the Supreme Court have really brought this issue back into president ial politics with a force we havent seen in many years, maybe decades. Kirsten gillibrand has made abortion a central issue of her campaign. How big a Political Risk is this for joe biden . I think its an enormous risk. In a Democratic Party i really think that support for the Hyde Amendment is just not really a tenable position to have. You know, back in the 1980s it was much more of a mainstream position within the party. We have seen president ial candidates in the past have to explain their evolution on issues, we saw it with al gore on tobacco, on guns. I just dont think that for a candidate running in the democratic primary in 2020 that support for the Hyde Amendment which, you know, is discriminatory against poor women, its not, i think, within the party seen as necessarily a government involvement versus no government involvement, but, again, discriminatory according to income is a tenable position that a candidate can take. Yeah, and already, nancy, i mean, protecting roe v. Wade was a litmus test for democrats, we knew that, biden has reaffirmed his support for roe, but is that the ultimate test, do you think, for voters or do you agree, do you think this could hurt joe biden . I think it could absolutely hurt joe biden in the democratic primary because the party has been really pulled a bit left this year, we saw that with the very progressive candidates who were elected to, you know, the house and the senate, particularly the house, following the midterms. You know, liberals in this country and democrats in this country want their politicians to be espousing more progressive policies and Something Like having a long time, you know, senator and Vice President talking about the Hyde Amendment which was something that had maybe more support among democrats as karen said, you know, in the 1950s, 1960s is not where the party is policywise and i do see why biden is doing it, he is looking ahead to a general election against President Trump. He did that even with his, you know, candidate announcement video but in the meantime, nancy, is this an opening for women candidates in particular . Gillibrand, for example, she is on the bubble about whether or not shes going to make that debate stage polling at 1 or 2 , Amy Klobuchar 1 or 2 and they need a boost to keep them in the conversation. Is there an opening for women in particular on this . Of course there is, because its a way that they can distinguish against, you know, joe biden and its also a way to harness a lot of the anger that women in this country and female democratic voters have felt following things like the confirmation of Justice Brett kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Its a way for them to tap into that. Nancy cook, terron tumulty thank you both. President trump dealing with controversies of his own after an interview with british tv host piers morgan that aired today. Sitting in Winston Churchills war rooms on the eve of ddays 75th anniversary the president claimed his increases on defense funding made up for the fact that he did not serve in the vietnam war. He dismissed Climate Change, he even argued against gun control. I dont understand, i never have understood, why anyone in America Needs a semiautomatic ar15 Assault Rifle at home. Well, a lot of them use them for entertainment. They do. Guns entertainment . For some people its entertainment. They go out and they shoot and they go to ranges. But do you personally believe in Climate Change . I believe that there is a change in weather and i think it changes both ways. Dont forget it used to be called global warming, that wasnt working, then it was called Climate Change, now its actually called extreme weather. You were not able to serve in vietnam because of a bone spur condition in your feet. Do you wish you had been able to serve . Would you have liked to have served your country . Well, i was never a fan of that war, i will be honest with you, i thought it was a terrible war, i thought it was very far away, nobody ever you are talking about vietnam and at that time nobody ever heard of the country. Would you like to have served generally, perhaps in another i would not have minded that at all, i would have been honored, but i think i make up for it right now. I think im making up for it rapidly because were rebuilding our military at a level that its never seen before. Nancy and karen are back with me. Karen, help us unpack that, will you . I mean, this is a president and, you know, this was largely ceremonial, there are a lot of pictures with the queen, with prince charles, doing things that president s do, the kinds of photos that many other president s have had. Then he sits down as he has in the past, gives an interview and raises controversy not on one, two, three fronts fronts, but even more. Yeah, i just dont even know where to start unpacking that. Just the you know, the ignorance or the willful dismissal of history on vietnam, to say i mean, there were a lot of people who had to fight in that war even though they didnt support it. It was not their choice, they were drafted. To say vietnam was a place nobody had ever heard of, it was an issue that was tearing the country apart. So, you know but the president has these positions and these things that he goes out and says that are just so at odds, as with his statements on Climate Change, at odds either with reality or with history, but he just sort of plunges ahead. And often things that frankly, nancy, are easily disprovable. I thought back immediately to the first day of the presidency when the president wanted to be defended, saying, i had a bigger crowd at my inauguration than barack obama did at his first inauguration. All you had to do was look at the pictures to see that wasnt true. Here he was again with piers morgan doubling down on the fact that there were protesters there to support him, not to not so many to be against his policies. Yeah, and that doubling down on facts that are just not correct, i mean, weve seen it this week, too, with the tariffs on mexico that hes talking about imposing. He keeps saying, for instance, that that kind of money will go into the Treasury Department and wont be a tax on consumers which is not a fact that any economist would agree with. One i think it shows the extent to which he has a hard time focusing on the things at hand, so, you know, he is abroad, he is on a president ial trip, but meanwhile he is talking about things that are wildly outside of the scope of his schedule for the day, which was commemorating dday. And then the other thing that i think is interesting is i think that so often his approach is just to keep relentlessly stating these misstatements or things that are not factually correct with the hope that he can sort of just wear down americans so that they accept these things as truth. We have seen him do that time and time again. Nancy and karen, more to come. Thanks to both of you. Much appreciated. Coming up, a federal judge is hearing arguments right now from the aclu against the Trump Administration over the controversial citizenship census question. Why theyre arguing it was an attempt to restrict the political power of democrats and latinos. And a bit later in the hour, hear the Amazing Stories of some truly incredible women who stepped up when their husbands stepped out to fight during world war ii as we approach the 75th anniversary of dday. 75th anniversary of dday. Embrace the mischief. Say get pets tickets into your x1 voice remote to see it in theaters. New york is hearing arguments against the Trump Administration. The aclu arguing they concealed the real reason for adding a Citizenship Question to the 2020 census. Here is what commerce secretary wilbur ross claimed was the reason during a house hearing in march. On december 12th, 2017, doj made a formal written request that the Census Bureau reinstate the Citizenship Question on the census. Doj sought census block level citizenship data for use in Voting Rights act enforcement. So he said its for the Voting Rights act enforcement but the aclu says thats contradicted by files on hard drives left behind by thomas hefler a Republican Redistricting strategist who died last year. Those files show that he wrote a 2015 study concluding that adding a Citizenship Question would allow republicans to create more extremely gerrymandered congressional map. He urged the trump team to tack that question on to the census. The aclu is is asking the judge to sanction the Justice Department but the Justice Department called the accusations a, quote, last ditch effort to derail the Supreme Courts consideration of the case. A decision on that could come later this month. The aclu notified the high court of new evidence last week but after that case was argued. Here is why this is such a big deal. The census which is mandated by the constitution is the one opportunity every ten years to accurately count how many people live in the u. S. Its used to term how many seats each state gets in the u. S. House of representatives. It affects the distribution of billions of dollars in federal funds for schools, hospital, roads and other vital services. Joining us now to take a closer look at this is michael waldman, president of the Brennan Center for justice at new york university. Basically what the aclu has done is he have this accused wilbur ross and the Trump Administration of lying about this, the reason for adding a Citizenship Question. What could a judge be looking at right now . Well, this is a crazy twist in this case because the Supreme Court has already heard the arguments. Three lower courts already have found that the Commerce Department was lying about what the reason was, but the Justice Department went in front of the Supreme Court and said, no, no, no, this is because of our deep love for the Voting Rights act that we put this question in, and the point is that putting this question in will make it so that many people just wont fill out the census forms because theyre afraid of giving information to the government. Potentially thousands . The government itself says 5. 5 Million People wont be counted if this question is on the census, but we need it for the Voting Rights act. Then in this twist thats like an episode of law and order the hard drive of a decreased republican operative shows that he helped write the letter from the Justice Department. In fact, you can take one from the other virtually wordforword. And that his hard drives say, yeah, this is good for republicans and good for white voters and bad for hispanics. Just exactly what the aclu and others have claimed was the case. The hearing today is in a court in new york, one of the courts that already ruled that this census question was illegal and based on lies and theyre saying to the government, hey, you know, tell us why this doesnt seem to prove that you lied to us. There is actually a request for sanctions against some of the lawyers and officials how likely is that . How often would Something Like that that hatch . It would be pretty unusual but its pretty unusual to have a hard drive revealed, you know, the motive out loud that people have said. This is possibly, i think, the biggest or one of the biggest cases the Supreme Court will face this year. So given that and the fact that this new information came out after the oral arguments were made what is the likelihood it impacts the ultimate decision . Its a really interesting question. They probably already have written the opinion. When they filed the these new motions in the trial court in new york they sent a copy up to the Supreme Court, its almost like, hey, fyi, we have this evidence that shows that they werent telling the truth. It will be very hard for the Supreme Court, although they might, it will be very hard for them to rule that this census question was about the Voting Rights act and had no discriminatory purpose and no improper partisan purpose given this data. If the court does rule that way it will really undercut the sense that they are not just making a partisan ruling as opposed to a ruling on the law. I think this case in a lot of ways should be a pretty easy case for this court and the people who heard the arguments in front of the justices didnt necessarily think it was going to be such an easy ruling. Fascinating and incredibly important. Thank you for coming in. My pleasure. Up next, shes got a plan for that. Senator Elizabeth Warren pushing big ideas to solve big problems for many americans. The democratic president ial candidates have spent a lot of time in the rust belt states of the midwest hoping to win back some of the voters who went for donald trump in 2016. Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren made a stop in elkhart, indiana, today, an area thats home to a number of recreational vehicle manufacturers. She touted a new plan which she says will create more than a million new jobs in Green Technology and manufacturing. Green vehicles, green buildings. Everything were doing. Lets go green. That has two benefits. One, it helps clean up a big part of whats happening, but two, it gives guaranteed demand for the products that are being developed because my plan is the government will only buy american. So were going to build those build it here, buy it here. Warrens comments come just hours before she takes questions from an audience at a town hall in ft. Wayne tonight hosted by Msnbcs Chris Hayes who joins us now from ft. Wayne. Indiana has been reliably republican, home to mike pence, barack obama was the last democrat to win the state in 2008 although bernie beat hillary in the primary. How does Elizabeth Warren fit into all this and whats the heart of what you want to get to tonight . Well, i think its a very interesting choice. She wanted to come to indiana, shes going through the industrial midwest now and if you look at the early primary wrap, doesnt make a ton of sense for the democratic candidate, iowa, new hampshire, south carolina, they are the big votes on super tuesday including texas and california. I think what shes doing is a demonstration project. In the last two days shes unveiled this ambitious new industrial policy. How to sort of think about resent terg American Economic policy towards exports, towards supporting American Workers and companies and towards a kind of green new deal. Her idea, i think, the sort of theory of the case she has is that you can go to states like indiana, places like ft. Wayne which has a long Industrial History and win over voters with that message and agenda. In some ways i think this is a message to other voters in other places in the democratic primary that she, Elizabeth Warren, a person who i think some voters worry is not electable or too associated with massachusetts and harvard, but she actually can speak to voters all throughout the country and particularly in the industrial midwest. Another thing im sure that she may want to talk about tonight, although shes already commented on it, thats this controversy over joe biden, his support for the Hyde Amendment, something that every other woman, every woman who was running and every other person who is running for president is against. I wonder how you see it, chris, and is this an opening for Elizabeth Warren . Is it an opening for the women candidates as theyre trying to figure out, frankly, how to mount a legit challenge to joe biden . Yeah, i think it is. I think its a really interesting moment, too, because i think its a place where the current front runner in this race, joe biden, has staked out a position thats distinct and different, substantively a different position in a very clear way from other candidates, including Elizabeth Warren. Warren is one of the cosponsors as you referred to, shes one of the cosponsors along with Kamala Harris of legislation that would repeal the Hyde Amendment. Were going to definitely want to talk about that. I do think we will see more places as we go down the road, i think its going to be one of the most interesting dynamics, when you look at substance, policy positions and policy commitments between biden and the rest of the field, bidens orientation as a politician, his voting record over his long career he positioned himself squarely in the middle of the Democratic Caucus for his Long Duration in the senate. I think his political instincts tell him thats where the best politically safest ground s thats what 40 or 50 years of doing this has taught him and made him think about, there are other candidates who have a different perspective and theory of the case. Im curious to hear about Elizabeth Warren talk about that tonight. One of the things i really love about these town halls is i think it does force them in some ways, the candidates, to be a little bit more spontaneous. You may get that kind of question that you wouldnt normally get doing a brief tv interview or knowing youre going to get news of day out on the campaign trail. Yes. I guess in some ways its a little bit of training for that debate thats coming up that is going to be so critical important, chris. It absolutely is. And ive got to say of all the candidates Elizabeth Warren has been doing a ton of town halls, i dont know if shes been doing the most but her staff tracks every question that she takes and that she gets and what those questions are go about. She does a lot of these town halls. Its a format that she thinks shes very good at, enjoys doing and something shes been out there getting her reps on on the campaign trail. Its going to be interesting to see how she handles those questions tonight. Thank you for being with us. Be sure to watch that special town hall with chris with 2020 and dat Elizabeth Warren tonight at 8 00 eastern only here on msnbc. But is a one day workshop or onehour workshop just a Marketing Campaign to address racial issues, not really to get to the heart of whats wrong across our country. Joining me now is derek johnson, president and ceo of the naacp. So good to have you here. Good to be here. Whats your take on a onehour Training Session on diversity . Its a waste of time. Corporations should look at diversity not in response to episodes but look at diversity in terms of the decisionmaking process. It is Good Business practice to have a diverse decision, whether its your board, your leadership because your Customer Base is diverse and these one hour episodes they wont change anything. In fact, there is a harvard sociologist who is quoted in todays article who says there are more than 1,000 studies that show short term interventions, an hour, a day, a week, basically do nothing to change peoples unconscious biases. Besides changing things at the top, which is a good start, what else do all Companies Need to do to understand this is a very real problem and we need to address it . One of the problems we have in this country is intolerance and racial hatred is germinating from the white house. People are seeing license to carry out incidents that really is disrespectful of others in the community. For companies it should be a business imperative to know that the Customer Base should reflect the leadership of the company and the decisions of the company should reflect the Customer Base. That cannot happen if you have all men catering to women. We simply that cannot happen if you have all women catering to men and it definitely cannot happen when you talk about race in terms of black, white, latino and many other ethnic groups in this country. This echos other situations that we have seen. Obviously there was a situation at starbucks last year when employees in philadelphia called police on two black men who said they were just waiting for a friend, prada and gucci pulled products from their lines because they were deemed to be racist. How broad a problem is this as you see it and at the very least has social media which is often criticized probably rightfully so been in helping to expose whats going on there. Social media has leveled the Playing Field in terms of new sources. So it is a two, it is not the result of anything bad, but its the tool and that tool now is highlighting some of the problems we have had in this country for a very long time. One of our founders said the question of the 21st century would be the question of race. We are in 2019 and were still dealing with that very request he. Derek johnson, good to have you here. Now, you might remember the ira from when former special Counsel Robert Mueller indicted multiple russian nationals for their role in large scale disinformation campaigns. U. S. Intelligent assessed that social media manipulation played a real role in russias attacks on our election. Covering that story for us is nbc news correspondent ken dilanian. Its not bad enough that they were disruptive of our election but now they used it to line their pockets. How exactly did she is trolls make money . It really added insult to injury, youre absolutely right. They did it by using whats called link short nurse to push ads to some of the users who were clicking on their fake news links that they were pumping out at this Internet Research factory in russia. As you said, weve known about this entity for some time, Robert Mueller indicted them, it was headed by putins chef and is mentioned in the Mueller Report but this report took a deep dive into the entire twitter archive, 10 million tweets, nearly 4,000 accounts and what the researchers found is that this was even more sophisticated than we first understood. It was a very clever propaganda operation. There was a core group of small accounts that were impersonating American News sites and pmpg out fake stories aimed at the extremes of both parties and eventually more towards trying to get donald trump elected. There were thousands of automated accounts, bots, fake accounts that were retweeting and getting these messages in front of americans. One of the more influence accounts called 10 gop impersonated some tennessee republicans and was retweeted by the likes of donald trump jr. , kellyanne conway, brad par skal. So this stuff had a lot of influence. The other disconcerting upshot is that its not clear that either the u. S. Government or social Media Companies has a strategy to prevent this from happening again in 2020. I mean, ken, the first thing i thought was if youve got this big financial incentive now, youre making all this money, what does that mean for the future of Election Security in the u. S. . Its an added huge added incentive to keep going. Its particularly a problem with twitter, chris, because the way these bots and fake accounts behaves in some ways is also the way advertisers behave on twitter, its part of their business model. You are allowed to have fake accounts on twitter. Facebook is in the process of trying to find and shut down foreign influence and twitter says theyre doing that but my sources tell me its a big problem and its not just foreign governments, its americans and adversary political campaigns doing this to one another, its the wild west out there on social media with fake news. Because of our First Amendment its a really difficult problem admittedly but there doesnt seem to be anybody in the Trump Administration at least that we know of thats thinking about this and engaging with the social Media Companies and trying to get a grip on it. Ken dilanian, depressing as it is, thank you so much. Up next, rosy the riveters, the women who helped build the war ships an weapons used in world war ii. Youre watching msnbc. As we approach tomorrows 75th anniversary of dday, when more than 150,000 allied troops landed on the shores of nazi occupied france. We are looking at the women, the rosie the riveters, that went to work often in factories and shipyards while the men in their lives went off to combat. Our own Andrea Mitchell had the chance to talk to some of these trail blazing women and hear their stories. Reporter rosie the riveter, the cultural icon of world war ii, a symbol of the millions of women who stepped in when the men stepped out, stepped in and learned how to build the weapons over seas. While the boys learned how to sing a new song. Reporter more than 75 years later these women have made it their mission to educate and remind americans the crucial role the rosie gs played. The men went to war and these things had to be done. Reporter every week these three, all between the ages of 92 and 99, get together to share their stories with visitors to the rosie the riveter National Park in california. The same time that marian was just 17 when she became a draftsman at kaiser shape yard. We worked on the original architect drawings, erased and put in our own. Thats kind of powerful stuff, you know, because they built the ships with our directions now. Marians older sister phyllis became a welder after hearing about the bombing of pearl harbor on the radio. I probably knew as much about welding as some of those guys they hired. So one morning as my lead man would point out joe do this, every time he pointed, id say i can do that. So he said and it was a vertical weld. He said, okay. Give it a try. And from that time i was part of the crew. The shipyards ran round the clock day care. Because i worked graveyard, i left my little girl on two shifts. Shed have her pjs on and would have been asleep and wrapped up in a blanket. And the women would take her in and put her to bed on a cot. There was a huge room full of kids. Reporter another welder, marian, went to work in 1944, the same year her brother was killed. Along with 10,000 other allied troops in the invasion of norman dy. We were going into the back door of the house and we saw this brand new car driving in, with two Service People in it. So we knew something happened. So they came in and told us that he had gotten killed. Reporter now 75 years after receiving that devastating news, marian joined by her rosie sisters, reuniting with her brother, becoming the first member of her family to visit his grave at the American Cemetery in france. Finally here. Hes happy to see you. Very happy. Waited a long time. Andrea mitchell joins me now from france. 92 to 99 and still going reporter amazing. And living that history for so many people. I wonder what it means now for them to be there. Reporter its so important for them. They feel they wanted the recognition that they counted also. That the effort against the nazis, the effort to win the war on the home front was not as important but was very important, was critical. They built the planes that helped win the war, the bombs that helped win the war. And they started from a lot of them were schoolgirls, College Girls or High School Girls as you saw just getting out of school, 17 years old and they just wanted someone to remember, you know, theyre bearing witness and one of them is 99 years old, and they know this will be their last their last visit to normandy, their first and last visit. So they would like some recognition. Actually, they would Like Congress to pass something to recognize what the women did back home. As i think they should. We also learned today that another prominent woman, nancy pelosi, is going to lead a bipartisan delegation to normno what else can you tell us about that . Reporter this is to show support of the people here who won the war and the international effort. This is about showing america wants to lead the way. This is republican and democratic and shes the speaker of the entire house, were going to be interviewing her exclusively on our show at noon tomorrow and throughout the day tomorrow well see her reactions to this. We have 30 seconds left but you you have been to so many important places and times in history. Youve gone to many commemorations. For you as youre standing there and meeting people and you know whats going to happen tomorrow, i wonder if you can give us your sense of the importance of day tomorrow. Reporter for these veterans they are a dwindling group and the 75th anniversary is probably their last. I was here in 1984 for the first big commemoration. When Ronald Reagan gave that grand speech and began to recognize the world war ii veterans. Thats the ahha moment that tom brokaw realized he wanted to write the greatest generation, which is part of our vocabulary. So its very meaningful, moving to be here. When the veterans are here tomorrow, ill have a hard time with my composure. The only thing i can compare this to is being there when reagan gave the berlin, take down this wall mr. Gorbachev. So we are privileged to have these moments to witness. Andrea mitchell, so many witnesses to history. Thank you for being with us. That wraps up the hour for me. Ali velshi will be back in this chair tomorrow. Thank you for watching. Deadline white house with Nicole Wallace starts now. Hi, everyone. Its 4 00 in new york as the third day of Donald Trumps european vacation enters its final hours and on the eve of a somber and sacred day of remembrance, the 75th anniversary of dday, the whole world is now in on americas dirty little secret. For donald trump no jab too low, no hour too late to tweet insults and his grasp on Global Affairs and domestic ones for that matter very, very loose. As in slipping through his fingers loose. As in he would appear to know less, if thats possible, than when he was elected. The queen is a great lady. When youre walking in with the queen, she can walk as fast z as i can, but its really slowly. Talking about nasty
