A crucial question posed by my colleague, Peter Alexander. Were going to allow the process to move forward, as the facts unfold and we make a determination for ourselves, based on the facts that are presented for us, the United States will determine what the appropriate response might be. Sir, is he did . Is he did . Sir, is Jamal Khashoggi dead . All of this is happening as the president loses white House Counsel don mcgahn, the man who took on several critical roles, including counselor to the president in special counsel Robert Muellers investigation. For the latest, im joined now by nbc newss Peter Alexander at the white house and nbc news chief Foreign CorrespondentRichard Engel in istanbul, turkey. Peter, you put that question to secretary pompeo that you just watched and he was focused quite a bit on saudi arabias leaders, it seemed, and what they wanted to do it. Did he talk at all about his conversation with turkish officials and what do we know . Reporter yeah, he did, not just with turkish officials, but with turkeys president , president erdogan. He said he met with him during his travel there. Said that the president assured him that they are conducting their own investigation right now. He said he met with some of that team of investigators, as well. And he said that the turks told him, told the secretary of state that they would share their results with saudi arabia, as well. He said he believed, according to pompeo, that between those two efforts that they ultimately would have a better, more complete picture, as he described it, of what took place. He said he was looking forward to wrapping that up quickly. But i asked the secretary of state basically why the saudi arabians should be trusted. Heres that exchange from only a couple of hours ago. Were going to allow the process to move forward. Allow the facts to unfold. And as they unfold, and as we make a determination for ourselves about what happened there, based on the facts that are presented to us, the United States will determine what the appropriate response might be. Thank you all for your time today. Sir, is Jamal Khashoggi dead . Sir, is Jamal Khashoggi dead . Reporter at the end of that exchange, you can see me asking him if Jamal Khashoggi is dead right now . Asked him repeatedly. At one point, it appeared we made eye contact, he heard my question, but quickly wrapped up what was a brief set of statements to the press before walking back into the west wing. Kasie . And Richard Engel, the turkish forensic teams searched the consulate in istanbul overnight, but Police Sources are now telling us that they have expanded that investigation to two new locations. What do we know . Reporter so, the turkish officials are absolutely convinced that Jamal Khashoggi is not only dead, but that he was killed by a 15member Saudi Hit Team that went to the consulate, was waiting for khashoggi when he went in to pick up some paperwork. That they trortured him, interrogated him, and then killed him. The question on many peoples minds here is, what happened to the body . After this alleged murder, two chartered aircrafts left the country, only one of them was searched. There has been some speculation [ inaudible ] i think we may have lost Richard Engel there. So, Peter Alexander, i want to go back to you at the white house, if i could. Reporter yeah. Richard was talking there a little bit about the turkish investigation here. Whats the political pressure like on the white house right now to kind of accelerate their response in the face of this . Because this really has been kind of a waitandsee game, and you know, these days are stretching longer. Reporter cakasie, youre right, but its clear as evidenced by what we heard from the secretary of state earlier today that they are going to try to wait and see a little bit longer, hoping if they add a few more days to this whole situation, that may relieve some of the pressure. Not sure that thats going to be the case. We have heard from some members of the senate, including republicans, like bob corker, expressing real frustration that they are not receiving the information they want to receive, in terms of intelligence, what the u. S. Knows, to try to get more details about this. Marco rubios been outspoken in his frustration, as well, saying that the u. S. Needs to be needs to be strong in its reaction to whats taking place there. The white house, though, again, we heard from the president and mike pompeo reiterated it today, basically saying, this is a strong, strategic relationship, it dates back for decades. Were going to let this play out, infect, is what they said. And that appears to be what theyre sticking with right now, with the president about to head out of town. Hes going to be gone for the next several days, including leaving here within the next hour. As soon as were done with this conversation, ill walk over to the south lawn where we hope to see him as he boards marine one before heading off to montana today, where he will be campaigning. So hell be focused on some domestic politics, even as some of this International Political mystery continues. Peter, thanks so much. And keep us posted if he happens to stop by those cameras and chat with you guys on his way out of town. Peter alexander, and richard eng engel, thanks to both of you. President trumps response to Jamal Khashoggis disappearance and reported death has raised new questions about the business relationship between the president and saudi arabia. The president tried to put the issue to rest earlier this week when he tweeted, quote, with for the record, i have no financial interests in saudi arabia or russia for that matter. His son, eric, repeated that point during an appearance on fox news this morning. Theres zero investments in russia. Theres zero investments in saudi. We have absolutely nothing to do with those countries. The president s latest Financial Disclosure form did not list any interests in saudi arabia. But he does have a history of doing business with the kidnapping come. The Associated Press reports that in the 1990s, saudi prince, now fallen out of favor with the government, helped save trump from bankruptcy by buying his yacht for 20 million. A few years later, that prince joined with other investors to buy the plaza hotel in new york city from trump for 325 million. The ap also reports in 2001, the saudi government bought the entire 45th floor of trump world tower, across the street from the united nations, for 12 million. And in 2015, the Washington Post reported that trump had registered eight Shell Companies in saudi arabia. According to the post, they were all dissolved by the end of 2016. And then, theres all the things trump has said himself while out on the campaign trail. Saudi arabia, and i get along great with all of them. They buy apartments from me, buy 40 million, 50 million. Am i supposed to dislike them . I like them very much. The Washington Post also reports the that the saudis have increased their business at trump hotels in washington, with new york city, and chicago since trump became president , hoping to increase revenue at all of those properties. All of this has prompted a group of Democratic Senators to write to the president , demanding that he and his children disclose information about their business ties with saudi arabia. One of them is oregon senator jeff merkley, and he joins us now. Senator, its good to see you. Thanks for taking the time. And do you expect the president and his family to respond to this request . I mean, do you have any tools right now to try and force them to . Well, i think its going to be difficult to get him to respond, for the same reason that he hasnt responded with his taxes over time. He has found that he can just wait it out. Obviously, as he talked about the saudis buying his apartments, theres a lot of connections here that he has not been he has not detailed to the american public. And here we are, in a situation where he continuously is saying, well, now, wait, dont get too upset about this situation with this journalist in the Washington Post. After all, we have all of these wonderful financial and economic ties with saudi arabia. Well, we really need to know the details. After all, the emoluments clause of the constitution is all about having a president who does not have financial conflicts of interest and clearly, President Trump has massive conflicts. Senator, whats your sense of the political will among your republican colleagues in the senate . And if you had any bipartisan conversations about trying to press forward independent of the executive branch, to try to hold saudi arabia accountable for whats happened. Well, there is a lot of bipartisan concern. There is a sense that america is missing on the world stage, on human rights, in general. For example, the president has never said one public word about the genocide in myanmar, which not only killed a lot of people, but drove 700,000 people into bangladesh, but not one word from the president. Now we have a journalist from an american newspaper who apparently has been killed by saudi arabia in a very brazen act and the president s team is continuing to repeat, well, we have all of these important ties with saudi arabia. Theres no sense that theyre pressing strongly. Meanwhile, i hear my colleagues talking about using the various levers we have, the foreign assistance act, the arms export control act, the war powers act. We saw, in fact, 44 members of the senate in a bipartisan fashion support the Sanders Lee Murphy proposal that is related to stopping support for saudi arabias assault on yemen, both stop the fueling of the planes by american planes and stop the intelligence sharing. So already, even before this happened, theres been a lot of concern about saudi behavior in the world and the complicity of the United States. Do you think that theres any chance that congress would step in and try to block this arms deal that the president has kept talking about . Or is that off the table at this point . No, its not off its not off the table. Most of the focus has been on the precisionguided munitions or pgms. There was support for giving pgms to saudi arabia, so they would quit hitting civilian infrastructure in yemen. And then after they were provided, they continued to hit civilian structure in yemen. You have a famine thats affecting millions of people. Its hardly touched the american consciousness, but there are children starving right now in yemen as a result. And the difficulty of getting supplies in through the hudada port has really complicated the situation. So there is significant bipartisan concern about an involving set of issues, regarding saudi arabia, including their habit over decades of supporting basically schools that create terrorist training, that have hurt interNational Security. Senator jeff merkley, thanks very much for your time and for drawing attention to another critical humanitarian disaster. Thank you. Youre welcome. Click or visit a retail store today. Many of north dakotas native american groups have launched a plan to work around a controversial state voter i. D. Law that threatens to keep thousands of potential voters away from the polls come november 6th. Last week, the Supreme Court upheld a state law pushed by a Republican State Legislature that requires north dakotas voters to provide an i. D. That shows a residential address. And it specifically bans a using a p. O. Box. The problem is that many native americans use p. O. Boxes for their mailing addresses, as scotus blog writes, quote, native americans often live on reservations or in other rural areas where people dont have street addresses. Even if they do, lawyers for the challengers argue, those addresses are frequently not included on tribal i. D. S. North dakota ranks as one of the Key Senate Races that could cost current democratic senator her. Na native americans were key in delivering heitkamps last victory back in 2012, before the state law was passed. Joining me now is jamie azure, Turtle Mountain band of chippewa indian tribal chairman. Sir, thank you for being here today. I want to start with the response here, because you have started outlining something of a plan to try to address this on election day. Youve only 19 days left. The Washington Post writes that your officials are going to stand outside, polling stations with laptops with access to rural address software and share a database of voter names. Is this how do you plan on executing this . And is this something that youre working with others to execute . Well, first of all, thanks for having me, and its an honor to be on your program today. Were happy to have you. And we are working with many of our tribal officials, were working with other the other tribes in the states, and were in communication with the state of north dakota, so we want to we want to just make it possible for everybody to have that right to vote. So we will have i. D. Machines and we will have all the information at each poll sites in the Turtle Mountain area. And how many people would you say this is a problem for . I mean, for folks, our viewers who are watching who may not have a sense of what life is like on a reservation, is this a problem that most voters who are in this situation will face or just a handful . How big of a problem is it . Well, we have quite a few that dont have the physical address on their i. D. S, but we are a sovereign nation, so we have a tribal i. D. The tribal i. D. S are the exact same size, weights, and all the requirements of the state i. D. S of north dakota. So now we just need to get the people out and let them know that the physical addresses need to be on the state i. D. S for state elections and we are going to provide every opportunity for our people to come out and let their voices be heard at that National Level and the state level. Has the state secretary of state responded at all to this plan . I mean, do you think youre going to face any additional legal hurdles around these i. D. S being allowed for voting . Well, at this point, we are almost in a reactionary mode. We are scrambling to get everything open. I can officially announce that the Turtle Mountain band of chippewa will be issuing free tribal i. D. S starting today through november 6th. So if theres anything that any ramifications that come of it afterwards, we are trying to take care of it now and well just have to deal with it after the 6th. Jamie azure, thank you very much for your time today, sir. I really appreciate it. Thank you very much. Theres another major issue the president has his mind on, as well. Immigration. Just as his secretary of state, mike pompeo, is scheduled to meet with mexicos outgoing president , President Trump repeated his threats against a large caravan of migrants, make its way from honduras towards the u. S. This morning, trump tweeted, quote, in addition to stopping all payments to these countries, who seem to have almost no control of their population, i must, in the strongest of terms, ask mexico to stop this onslaught. And if unable to do so, i will call up the u. S. Military and close our southern border. Then he went on, threatening to upend his latest trade deal with mexico and canada, saying this issue is, quote, far more important to me, far more important to me as president than trade or the usmca. The parents frustration comes as a surge of migrant parents entering the u. S. With children have reached record levels in the last three months. The president , meanwhile, is scheduled to leave the white house at any moment for his third trip to montana. Hes campaigning for scott rosendale. Why is this race so important . Right now, the president is getting ready to head to montana for yet another Campaign Event. This will be his ninth rally so far this month. Trump is doing everything he can to help propel tromsrepublicans victory in 19 dealing with a growing International Crisis over the suspected murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Steve patterson is in missoula, montana, where trump is set to make his third appearance in the state in four months. And steve, let me start with you. Because it looks like a former chairman of the states gop on twitter suggested supporters bring guns to the rally in case of violent protests . Reporter he has, casey. And hes actually clarified that point. That reporting is coming from the local paper, the missoulan. He clarified to say, he wasnt asking for any protests, but for people to be prepared. I was in a different part of the state last week and had already heard on a completely different story from young voters who said that they were going to come and protest this event. So while thats going on, i mean, if youre looking for a referendum on republican enthusiasm in this state, though win mean, look no further than this crowd. Just, if you can pan around this line a little bit, take a look at this. This is 6 1 2 hours before this event starts. Were talking about 6,000 to 8,000 people that are going to come and see President Trump and the earliest this morning was from 3 00 a. M. , the first person in line, 3 00 in the morning. Right now, we have a few ladies who have come out to see President Trump speak. Whats your name, man . Angie berry. Reporter angie, why are you here . Why see the president . I want to support him. I love what hes doing. And im just im happy yeah im excited to support him and i think hes doing Amazing Things for montana and the whole world. Reporter so the midterms are very close. Its a very tight senate race here. Matt rosendale versus the incumbent, democrat jon tester. Do you feel do you ever get tired of trumps rhetoric, when he goes after the other guy instead of talk about the person that youre here to see . Or do you want him to be on the attack . I want him to be on the attack. Reporter you want him to be on the attack, why . Because we need to be woke up. We need to be woke up to whats going on in our world. We need him to egg us on, get us going. And thats what hes doing. Point out how many women are here . Reporter a lot of women are here, as someone just pointed out in the crowd. Did the kavanaugh hearings inspire you or get your enthusiasm out at all, seeing those play out on live tv . And thats why you see all of these women here, thats what inspired us. Were hearing that a lot in this crowd. Absolutely. When that hearing came on whatever that was called, i seen right through that whole thing. And that made me say, the next trump rally, im going to be there and support him. Because you know what . together, we are strong and you know what . Thats how it is. Reporter you hear the rhetoric here . And we are weak when we are apart that is a saying from my mother that has been passed down through our family. Reporter and you think trump is bringing us together . He is bringing us together. If you dont see this, this is togetherness reporter there you have it. That is the rhetoric from the crowd here. They are excited and very enthusiastic to see President Trump land here in about six hours. This is the first stop in a whirlwind tour across the west as he travels on, kasie. Already, a raucous crowd. At least it looks like a Beautiful Day there in big sky country. Hans nichols, i want to go to you. Whats the thinking behind the scenes a to the white house right now, about what is going on in saudi arabia and that Foreign Policy crisis and whether it has any impact at all on the looming midterm elections . Well, officials here will tell you that this is the president trying to walk and chew gum at the same time. Now, its clear from the pompeo briefing he gave here just a few hours ago that theyre playing for time. Now, just what that timeline is, that the administration has given the saudis, its unclear. Pompeo said a few days. It seems as though there is a deadline. Theres a deadline on what the saudis end up saying to and explaining to the world on what happened to that journalist inside the consulate there in turkey. Theres also question of credibility. And it seems as though the Trump Administration has been willing to give the saudis the benefit of the doubt. You did hear pompeo say, however, that whatever the saudis end up saying is going to have to pass a credibility test. Now, at the same time, President Trump is likely getting all kinds of intelligence. Remember, you have u. S. Assets all throughout the world, as well, signal intelligence, that likely would indicate if there are any tapes, what was said on those tapes. The president , himself, has said, he wants to listen to them if they economist. Hallie . Hans, its kasie, thank you. My mistake. Thanks to steve patterson, as well. I want to stay in montana and get a closer look as to whats motivating midterm voters. As we said earlier, the name of the game right now is turnout. Joining me now is mike dennison, the chief political reporter for the Montana Television network. Mike, one Major Campaign issue, immigration. Im not sure that a lot of our viewers necessarily associate with montana. But it sounds like your reporting is telling us that its really become a flashpoint. It certainly is. I mean, republicans running for office here, both for coke and for senate, when you ask them what the big issues are, the first thing they say, they talk about the tax cut, and the second thing they talk about is immigration. Even though were quite a ways from the border, the southern border, this is an issue that resonates with a lot of the Republican Base in the state. We talk about it as a safety issue, we talk about drugs coming into the state from mexico. And you know, whether its motivating someone outside that base, the independent voters, the democratic voters, you know, that remains to be seen. So the perception from here in washington has been that jon tester is one of the safer democratic incumbents whos running in trump country. That hes got probably a better than even shot of hanging on to his seat. Whats the view like there . Im sure youve covered many of his races. Has the ground shifted enough under him in the age of trump that you think that hes at risk of having a different outcome this time . Well, thats the question, of course. You know, mr. Tester has won both of his races by fairly close margins. He, himself, has said, i know this is going to be a close race. Hes not saying hes going to walk away with anything. He has outspent mr. Rosendale by almost 4 to 1, 5 to 1. A lot of outside money, though, has perhaps evened it up a little bit. Theres been about 14 million spent on behalf of mr. Rosendale by outside groups, and about 8 million to 9 million spent on behalf of tester, as well. I think its going to come down to another close contest. I dont think its going to be that much different than the other ones. The fact is really who turns out. Trump is here to juice the turnout for republicans and also people who may be sitting on the fence. Thats the name of the game. Sure. Do you think that jon testers vote on kavanaugh, he voted no, is something thats hurting him in these final weeks . Well, thats possible. The fact that he voted no was not a surprise to any of us in the press here. He voted no on gorsuch. We voted if he voted no on gorsuch, hes probably going to vote no on kavanaugh. And he came out a week or so before those big, explosive hearings and said, this is how im going to vote. And he had lots of reasons that he had researched about privacy and dark money, things that resonate with a lot of voters here in montana, so that wasnt a big surprise. Whether or not it hurts him or not, well have to wait and find out on election day. All right. Mike dennison, thank you so much for sharing your reporting from the ground and your perspective. I appreciate it. My pleasure. Coming up, a look inside facebooks firstever war room. How they say theyre gearing up to fight against election interference with the midterms just 19 days away. Six months ago, mark zuckerberg, ceo of one of the biggest and most Influential Companies in the world told congress that getting the 2018 elections right was one of his top priorities. 2018 is an incredibly important year for elections. Not just with the u. S. Midterms, but around the world, there are important elections in india, in brazil and mexico and pakistan and in hungary that we want to make sure that we do everything we can to protect the integrity of those elections. Now, i have more confidence that were going to get this right. So just how confident is facebook less than one month until the midterms here in the u. S. . Nbcs joelilee ling kent joins. Whatd you find . We spoke to facebook executives inside facebook headquarters. They told us theyre reasonably confident that this is going to go better than 2016. Theyve opened a war room to that effect, showing us around. We wanted to show you inside. Facebook is on offense, after facing fallout from fake news and hacking scandals. Many users wondering just what can be trusted in our feeds, ahead of the midterm elections, just 19 days away. Welcome to the war room. Thank you. This summer, facebook disclosed it blocked 1. 3 billion fake accounts. And last month, 30 million accounts hacked, allowing cyber criminals to read your private messages and impersonate you. How confident are you that a facebook user, an american voter, will be safe from disinformation on election day . I mean, our goal is to make sure that the public debate around the election is authentic. Thats our priority and thats what were laser folks on. Nothing has changed in that area. Reporter but critics, like recently departed facebook chief security officer, alex stamos, told us exclusively that social Media Companies are not doing enough. Theres been small improvements in campaign security, but we have not seen the kind of massive upgrade in Campaign Infrastructure that you would need to stand against a professional Hacking Agency like that. Now, facebook is also telling me theyre relying on individual users to report false news and bogus posts and then theyll downgrade them. Sometimes theyll remove those posts. But it is a Monumental Task that theyre trying to combine with Artificial Intelligence as well, kasie. And jo, where are most of the threats coming from on facebook ahead of this election . Thats a really good question. We continue to see threats on facebook from russia and iran, but most interestingly, with a lot of the disinformation, the sewing inin ining of confusion from domestic sources and thats what facebook is really grappling with right now. Not just facebook, but reddit and twitter. This is a crosssocial media issue and theres only 19 days to go. Were see if theyre actually able to make a difference here with things like war rooms. An important story just a couple of weeks out. Nbcs jolee ling kent, thanks v much. Thanks. Coming up, canada is the first major World Economy to legalize pot. But here in the u. The systemic issues from an economic standpoint, the systemic issues from a social impact standpoint. One thing we havent been discussing is whats going on with the markets. Right now in canada, we have them taking advantage of that full legalized platform. And the investment banks up there are raising significant capital to the tunes of billions of dollars for a lot of the companies in the space up there. While companies in the u. S. And most operations down here within the states, we have a hard time just getting basic checking accounts, much less having access to the Morgan Stanleys and Goldman Sachs of the world. So were essentially underfunded by comparison with our canadian counterparts and its putting us in a position where, serene, where our borders open up, well have the ability to come down here and deploy that capital and own a significant amount of the footprint and brands. So weve covered a lot of this over recent years, but for our viewers who are not terribly familiar, youve mentioned you have a hard time getting checking accounts. Can you walk us through why that is, the hodgepodge with regulations and the federal rules that lead you to that position. Even though we have statebystate legalization in 30plus state, even though half of our population live in a state that has some form of regulation, we are still federally illegal. And that dichotomy has kept a barrier between our businesses in the United States that are running under cannabis and our access to the financial institution. So everything from 401 k plans to Payroll Service providers to checking accounts and savings accounts and as were discussing, the Capital Market sector, including wall street. One roadblock you could face here in trying to push this is the attorney general of the United States, Jeff Sessions. I want to play for you something he said about marijuana recently and well talk about it. Sure. Thank thanks. Currently, there is a great deal of misinformation and misunderstanding out there. Some even seem to suggest that marijuana and other drugs do not pose accident risk. In recent years, a number of states have repealed prohibitions on marijuana use. Result, too many people think that marijuana is legal. How much of a roadblock is Jeff Sessions in the way of the policies plans you want . Whats your sense of whether the administration as a hole is tended toward the position he just outlined . Well, i dont think the relationship between our president and Jeff Sessions is at its pinnacle today, for lack of a better term. Fair enough. So that being said, one thing Jeff Sessions has said multiple times is that hes enforcing federal law. If we want to change, Congress Needs to change the laws. And thats essentially what were pushing for here. Were not only trying to say, hey, were having less opioid use in states that legalize, less teen use, less traffic fatalities. We know the social impacts arent what we thought they were going into this. We know the Economic Impacts are significant. But what were not paying attention to right now is the first mover advantage canada is having as the first g7 nation to legalize. And im thrilled with what theyve done. Its a huge domino to be tipped over globally, but were going to lose our momentum, especially with california having legalized over 20 years ago, we had a first mover advantage, but now were putting ourselves in a position where all the companies in the space are flocking to the canadian environment to raise capital and all the Canadian Companies again are raising a significant amount of capital that will eventually, to me, from my perch and purview, ultimately be deployed down to the United States. So the risk for us, in my opinion, this is the biggest Economic Growth driver we think this generation is going to see. And i say that, because i cant think of another business where manufacturing, distribution, and retail sale is legislatively and regulated to be happening in our country. And if we lose that to foreign control, were losing a big economic advantage in our opinion. I am interested to see if that argument resonates with this president of the United States. Derek peterson, thanks very much for your time today. Appreciate it. Thanks for having us, kasie. Coming up, betomania. While some of beto orourkes events may feel more like a rock concert, they are campaign rallies. Congressman beto orourke is challenging senator ted cruz in texas. Just 19 days from the midterms, this race is proving not all politics are local. The fight in texas has gripped the nation. Orourke becoming a cultural phenomenon for democrats across the country. His signs have been spotted in california, rhode island and virginia. And last quarter, he raised 38 million, more than any Senate Candidate in history. But will all the hype ultimately be enough in texas where no democrat has won a statewide race in 24 years. Nbc political reporter alex siteswald joins me. Thanks for being here. The question were all asking. I feel like ive heard a lot of people when asked, well, its still texas. Where is the bar for beto orourke if he cant win this race that he stays in the conversation as a potential even 2020 contender . How close does he have to come . So much attention and enthusiasm. Its set a high bar for him here. Theres been this concern from day one that even if he ran the Perfect Campaign theres just a ceiling for any democrat in texas. 5,000 more republicans who voted in the primary than democrats. But this is the parlor game thats happening in washington. A lot of democratic circles. People eyeing 2020. Hes polling 7 to 9 points behind ted cruz. Does he have to come within 5 points or does he have to win . Hes going to be in the conversation no matter what. But the knives are going to come out for him if he wins by a large margin. Spent a lot of money in tex aa state that was never going to be super competitive. That money could have been better spent in tennessee, missouri. And he does have the option to give that money to help others that he doesnt seem to be using. Hes pushed back on public calls for him to spend that money elsewhere. Hes spending it all in texas. Digital ads, building a huge email list that will be helpful no matter what he does beyond this. Also building a large Field Program in texas and a state that doesnt have a lot of democratic infrastruct are. 860 volunteer offices. That will help texas Going Forward in the long run but certainly help him. The celebrity factor is interesting, too. Certainly Bernie Sanders who i covered in 2016 had that with millennials. Treated him like a famous person like they were meeting Kim Kardashian as opposed to their run of the mill senator or politician. That seems to be at work here. Im wondering if thats a quality democrats wont be looking for as they try to take on donald trump. Trump himself is a celebrity, of course. Theres the adage that democrats want to fall in love with their candidates and they did with barack obama and Bernie Sanders. And to have beto orourke, a Senate Candidate doing that now is remarkable. Hes getting celebrities in l. A. , donors in new york, people all over the country who are just excited about him and think hes cool and want to hang out with him. But thats not texas. He needs votes in texas. But you mentioned the rock concert. I talked to the lead singer of the band spoon. Nice reference. Yes, so like that hipster kred. He skateboards across texas in a very rare way for a politician. I dont know that thats what democrats are going to be looking for, but at the moment, there some liberals have the feels for beto. Thats what it seems like ted cruz is making fun of when he and his campaign are going after beto. Its a potent attack. I just looked on the website a few minutes ago. The top of the press section on his official Campaign Website is a story about him potentially running in 2020. Its an effective attack line if you say he doesnt want to be your senator. He just wants to run for president. Ted cruz may not be the best messenger because in his first term he turned around and ran himself. Thanks for your reporting. The closing bell is about to ring on what has been another bad day on wall street. Taking a live look ot the big board, the dow is down big, driven by rising Interest Rates, worries about the chinese economy and lingering fears about overpriced tech stocks. The nasdaq and the s p 500 also seeing big losses today. Cnbcs dominik chu joins us with more. We talked about three major causes for the drop today. Would you say one is the overriding concern here . You hit the nail on the has. There are many cross currents at play right now. The one a lot of traders and investors are focused on is likely going to be that slowing momentum, that downside move in technology stocks. And the reason why is because technology, internet, media related stocks make up a huge portion of the u. S. Stock market. As those particular stocks start to lose steam it drags down the whole market with it. So as we watch technology, we watch Media Companies, those are the ones in key focus. And also china. Thats going to be a big one as well because so much of that technology and internet trade is driven around whats happening with trade with china as well. So all of these things are at play right now. The one other thing id say that a lot of traders are focused on in the rising Interest Rate side of things is the housing market. Home construction, building materials. They have seen some of the biggest weakness in the entire market over the course of the last two to three weeks. So thats something were certainly watching here, kasie. Dominic chu, thanks for that update. Im told we just heard from President Trump. He spoke to reporters as he left for a Campaign Event in montana. Take a listen. Its been a disaster. And a disaster, frankly, for montana. So well see what happens there. The economy is looking fantastic. Great numbers came out today. And i will see you folks on the plane, okay . Do you believe Jamal Khashoggi is dead . It certainly looks that way to me. Its very sad. Certainly looks that way. An acknowledgment from the president there that Jamal Khashoggi likely dead. And this weekend, i will be returning to politicon. Well host fun and informative panels. If youre in the area, join us at the lampts convention center. Politicon. Com to find out more. And thats going to speaking of the midterms, one familiar face is back. President obama is working to increase turn dloout responding excuses young people give for not voting. I dont care about politics. Look, i dont care about pokemon but that doesnt mean it wont keep coming back. So if you really want to throw a wrench in their plans, throw them out. Vote in somebody better. Why bother voting when i cant relate to the candidates. Now this is actually a good question. For way too long, politicians havent been representative of america as a whole. But thats changing this year. You remember those hearings where members of congress tune in tomorrow this hour to hear from matthew segal, the cofounder of attention, the Media Company behind that video. That really does wrap it up for me this hour. Thank you for watching. Deadline white house with my friend Nicolle Wallace starts right now. Hi, everyone. Its 4 00 in new york. Deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein took his fragile piece with the president out for a stress test yesterday in a rare and expansive interview with tthe wall street journal. He defended the Mueller Probe and offered to stay on the job despite the constant stream of insults about the investigation he oversees and the department of justice in general. For as long as the president pleases. Rosenstein telling the journal, quote, people are entitled to be frustrated. I can accept that. But at the end of the day, the public will have confidence that the cases we brought were warranted by the evidence and that it was an appropriate use of resources. Those cases include the criminal indictments of the president s former campaign chairman, his former National Security adviser and his former deput
