Behavior. I hope were reaching a Tipping Point where my colleagues and every elected official will say, we cant go on this way, but it is flake, or a fluke . What is it. Other republican members, will they side with him and start a new movement . Several senators are at an event with the president s daughter ivanka, going about business as usual. Begin with the white house with peter alexander. The president son his way to dallas for that Campaign Fundraiser with the Republican National committee. Before getting on the plane, boy, his comments ran the gamut. Russia, gold star family and clearly he is seething no ground to either jeff flake or bob corker. Reporter i think he was sort of the marketer in chief as we saw the president on the south lawn today touting all the good things within the Republican Party. Even as we witnessed this sort of civil war, this fracturing, this rupturing over the course of the last 48 hours talking how theres total unity within the party and in fact, an effort to push back the idea that corker and flake could in any way hurt his agenda going forward. Asked that question specifically. Does he worry these two republican senators could hurt the potential for tax cuts to pass . Take a listen. I really know that they want tax cuts. They know we need it. We need it for the country. We need it for the people. We need it for the middle class. We need it for jobs. I dont think they knew that. I really dont. I know them well enough. I dont know flake very well but i know bob corker. I think they really could do it i think they feel they have to do it for the country. Reporter and he appeared to add a new item tore the negotiating table, the 401 k retirement plan. Earlier he says the 401 k s would not be messed with, would stay. Although some republicans in charge of the process trying to come up with the best bill in congress saying nothing sauf the table. During comments earlier on the south lawn before departing the president said perhaps 401 k s would be reintroduced bas a negotiating item. Ran the gamut. Talked what he said to rivals, republicans, corker and flake, and niger. The controversy that followed him for much of last week into this week. The conversation described as insensitive. His comments to the widow of sergeant la david johnson, one of the four American Service members killed in niger. The president said of that raid or of that mission that he didnt authorize it, at least not specifically. And basically pushed it off to the generals saying theyre the ones hes put in charge of all of these efforts to go after all sorts of insurgents, including isis in that region. Peter, thank you. Turning to capitol hill. The president said many times talking with reporters on the Capitol South lawn a little while ago, just how united the Republican Party is. Garrett haake is on capitol hill for us. A lovefest is the way he described the meeting yet with folks in the senate, except for corker and flake and the is now saying this is a unified party. What are you hearing on the hill . Reporter lovefest may be a little strong, but on the way he described this unity, he talked about being unified on the agen agenda. On that larger point, he seems to be right from talking to republican lawmakers here on the hill. They are singularly focused on getting anything done, sievely tax reform. A lot of republicans dismissed the comments of senators corker and flake as a personal feud and not really relevant to the conversations theyre having about their agenda. Heres a sampling of some of the republican senators talking about this today. And the president has his own way of communicating and, look, its worked. Hes getting things done. Hes performing. I hope to continue to fight for those, and insofar as this president is willing to fight for those things ill stand by him in that effort. Reporter and, chris, bottom line, people who have spoken up most loudly againsted president are either the forkes defeated in the president s race, no the speaking up as loudly now, like ted cruz and marco rubio and those not running for reelection. The unification effort seems to continuing as those not are taking their ball and going home. Thank you. Republican reactions, as he said, to flakes announcement, coming in. Lets take a listen to a little more. I think people should settle their differences personally. Its better that way. I think its in our interests to have party unity to continue to work forward on an agenda. Weve 0 made this about personalities, less about policy. If we can stay on policy, look, i have had honest disasgreemts whip the president yet on very good terms with the president because i treat the person and the office with respect. We want our own republican reaction and i bring in georgia congressman, a budding kongm congressman. Good to see you. Good to see you. I want to ask about a few things jeff flake had to say, because he got people talking. He believes the president is a danger to our democracy. Do you believe that . No. You know, look, we need to do away with all of this hiyperbol and we need to focus on tax reform. Ill be hon effort. Appears the senate is just dysfunctional. We are doing our work in the house. Have our disagreements, talk about them, work them out and do what were supposed to do. Over 400 bills are languishing in the senate. They have to do confirmations, a big part of their responsibility, come on. 400 bills . They need to get their work done over there, concentrate more on what were here for and not the personality part of this. And doesnt the president complicate that going after members of the senate very personally. Gone after john mccain very personally, bob corker, jeff flake. Would he have been better served, would you and your constituents werent better served if he had gone out today and said, jeff flake is entitled to his opinion. Say what he wants about me. Im focused on getting the work of the people done. Can we talk about tax reform . But he didnt do that. Well, look, its not for me to judge what he should have done or shouldnt have done t. Is i would say it is in the sense of want to get something done. Does it hurt you and your ability to get it done. We knew going into this what donald trump was about and thats why he got elected president. He said up front im going to drain the swaurcmp, turn things upsidedown in washington. We were sent here by our constituents and need to get our work done. Iowa to ask you about Something Else he said. You cant ignore the fact 2018 is coming up. Whatever you try to get done right now and well talk about a few of those things, is colored by people who are running for reelection in 2018. So he said, look, you have to essentially cozy up to the president. If you dont do that, you dont have a chance. Is that essentially quieting a lot of people who do have some real concerns about some of the things the president says, what he does and the way he conducts himself as president . You know, i think most people that i know up here are focused on doing their job. Theyre not worried about whether theyre going to get reelected, or whether theyre in good company with the president. Or with anyone else. Theyre just concerned about, lets get the peoples work done, and thats what we have to stay focused on. Let me ask you about one of thez things because youve been focused on the opioid crisis, at another hearing today about that. Is the president doing enough . Are you in congress doing enough . You know, listen, this is a big problem. An epidemic. Ive seen it firsthand as a practices pharmacist over 30 years ive seen what opioid abuse and overdose can do and addiction can do, to people. Ive seen it ruin lives, careers, ruin families. It is a serious, serious epidemic with have here. Are we doing enough . Listen, what were doing is making sure that we are giving the resources to the, to the agencies that they need. Now, this is going to take more than just throwing money at it. Im not interested in saying, okay. If we hit 50 billion weve done our job. That does us no good. We have to be smart about it, efficient about it. Weve got to be preventive about it. We have two problem to address. Address prevention of people getting addicted, but also got to address the people already addicted. Thats a big, big problem. Theres over 11. 5 Million People killing over 90 people every day here in america. Congressman buddy carter republican from georgia, thank you. Thank you. For more bring in jon meacham. Rick tyler. And umeesh alcindor, National Reporter for the National Times and an msnbc contributor. To listen to the folks we just listened to, this is just all pretty straightforward. They want to do the business of the people. Putting aside things people like john mccain, frankly former president george w. Bush, certainly jeff flake and bob corker have to say. Jon meacham, is this just another blip in usual party disunity, or is what were witnessing something bigger here . It is something bigger. The congressmans point is probably the one i would make if i were trying to make that case. You can almost see the talking point being written and crafted to say that were here by the peoples business and try to shift the focus from the white house, from the feud of the many. The problem is, they dont have an ally in that messaging strategy in the oval office. You have someone who insistently puts the spotlight on himself. I think that when we look at this era, which i think were going to be writing about and talking about historically for as long as the english language is spoken in any corner of the globe, these kinds of moments will be on the timeline. We just saw the president and he was all about unity. We want to play a little bit more. All right. We dont have that. You heard what he said. He said its all about unity. Yesterday in that room it was a lovefest. Where is this and the president thinks its a victory, as steve bannon said, its another scalp . Inny some ways they are. On the New York Times blob a story says the tax plan to the Republican Party is much like having a baby to save your marriage. This idea republicans are essentially coming apart and grasping for things to stay together. The president is looking at senators leaving saying im getting my way. In reality a lot of people are holding on not doing what senator flake and others are doing because they want to try to get tax reform done. What is your party right now . The way a voter described it to me, we hold the house, the senate, the white house, most of the governorships and most legislatures. Broaden the party, fights are niv inevitable but people would do well to listen. Buddy carter said, listen to the american people. Knew what they were getting when they voted for this prid ae pred doing what he said he would do. The Republican Party is adrift, intellectual underpinnings. They can be unified under tax reform and wonderful, if they can get that done. Even the president himself said jeff flake, 91 of the time. The problem is, the president decided to go to war over petulant matters and with jeff flake because he made a call for common decency. Hes been at war aliberals, in a war with moderates, with conservatives like jeff flake. Been at war with minorities, with women, with democrats, a war with republicans. He has been at war with everybody, and thats not helpful. It youre trying to get legislation passed you cant keep marginalizing people and in the senate, hes marginalized john mccain, jeff flake, and bob corker. All of them will be senators until january 2019. He needs them all on tax reform. Theres a lot of hurdles to go on tax reform. They dont get it done, this Republican Party has nothing to stand on going into 2018. And even if there are people who will whisper quietly to jeff flake i agragree but wont say publ publicly, are they offended enough it will make a difference how they vote . And have the power, i mentioned positive to buddy carter and what jeff flake said, enough influence frankly its not in your best interests if you want eleshgt ntd 2018 or beyond to go publicly against this president . We spoke of a lot on the members of the president whether or not he has support of the country and need to look at anybodies for congress. A lot of the Congress Members and senators are sitting in districts that overwhelmingly went to the president and whose constituents are saying, stay with the president. Stick with the president. They push back and constituents are saying, why didnt you vote for health care, tax reform . Why arent you doing everything you can to get the president s goals passed . The president is good at spinning this, saying i tried through executive orders, trying, pushing hard in person to congress to get these things done and Congress Just wont do it. A lot of republicans are really fearful of the president influence still and because of that youll see whispers maybe off the record saying they cant stand the president and cant stand his rhetoric but when it comes to voting time theyll vote with the president and vote with what the president tells them to do. Yes. Maybe jon meacham, a conversation a lot of people are having that in the end doesnt have a lot of impact, but weve had 24 hours to digest that, truly extraordinary moment on the floor of the senate and jeff flakes carefully worded, i thought, obviously wellplanned statement about where we are as a country. Who we are as a country. Who we want to lead us. Will this go down as a great statement about common decency and democracy or will it be will blip in the radar . I think depends how the story turns out. I think that senator flakes, mccains, president bush 43s voice, senator corkers voice are making a point. Articulating a largely, a widely shared but largely unexpressed opinion. And one of the things that we have to watch and those who want to be active about it have to resist for and fight for, is, is there will events take place, will things unfold, where President Trumps really hobsian view of the world, to ricks point, the war of all against all, thats where we are. He doesnt know anything else. This is the method, the means by which he achieved ultimate power. Hes not going to change. Ever. Lets just say that. Will things, will the markets continue to do well . Will he potentially successfully bring back jobs . Will he grow employment . If he does, senator flake will be interesting, not dispositive. If things turn out badly, people will look back and say why didnt we listen more closely . Jon meacham, rick tyler, thanks to you both. And im told we have breaking news. U. N. Ambassador nikki haley has been evacuated from a refugee camp in south sudan. Her event cut short because of security concerns. Nbc news foreign colonel Lucy Cavanaugh has breaking details. What do we know about this, lucy . Reporter the United Nations confirmed an incident to nbc news, Ambassador Nikki Haley at a refugee camp meeting with civilians affected by the war in that country when a small protest broke out against the president s country. There were about 100 demonstrators, we understand. The spokesman for nbc news said the ambassador had to leave when this group approached the area where she was located. Were told she cut the event short by a few minutes, but maintained the rest of her schedule. She has since departed there and is in the drc, democratic republic of congo, the next intended stop. Not taking around her schedule and we know Ambassador Haley met earlier and there has been growing frustration inside and outside that country over the conflict. It killed tens of thousands of people. The u. S. Is south sudans largest donor and instrumental in the creation of south sudan. Ambassador haley questioned the president over rape, murder, kidnapping as washington seeks to ramp up pressure there. Again, she is doing okay. We understand that she was not injured in anyway. Does not appear to have been the target of that protest. This appears to be a security measure put in place, but she is continuing with the rest of her trip, that visit still ongoing. Chris . Thank you. Well keep people posted as we learn more exactly what went down there. Up next, the plot thickens. Nbc news confirms that Hillary Clintons campaign and the dnc helped fund the research that led to the now infamous dossier on donald trump. One that reportedly includes allegations of ties to russia. That story, after the break. And the president responding to questions whether he would apologize to the widow of sergeant la david johnson, killed in the niger ambush. She says the president struggled to remember her husbands name when the president called her. I certainly respect la david, who, by the way, called la david right from the beginning. Just so you understand, they put a chart from front, la david. It says la david johnson. Right from the beginning, no hesitation. One of the great memories of alltime. And now only because its going to come out in a court case they said, yes, they did it. They admitted it, and theyre embarrassed by it. But i think its a disgrace. They say it began with the republicans. I think i would know, but i wont say. It will be determined. It will be determined. President trump speaking this afternoon about that now infamous dossier during the president ial election that alleged ties between then candidate trump and russia. The Washington Post first reported the Clinton Campaign and the dnc paid for the research, although it also reports that this began during the republican president ial primaries with a gop donor. Nbc news confirmed the story and the source familiar with the situation says, to aid in its representation of the clinton president ial campaign and Democratic National committee entering into san engagement for Resource Services and concluded before the election in early november. So far no official comment from the Clinton Campaign. The dnc responded to the article saying tom perez and the new leadership of the dnc were not involved in any decisionmaking nor aware. Be clear. There is a serious federal investigation into the Trump Campaigns ties to russia and the American Public deserves to know what happened. Joining me now, clint watts, msnbc security analyst, former fbi agent. Back with me, ms. Alcindor and reporter for the New York Times. Clint, dicking into this, in terms of the russia investigation, and what investigators might want to know, whats your headline out of this . In terms of the das yossier democratically funding, thats no story. I assumed everyone knew that. Who are the gop people that backed it and walked away. More important, what we see on the hill today and other places. People testifying to both money and legal relationships. That is what comes through on the dossier consistently. Real estate transactions. Business deals. What kun done in terms of coordination and the dossier . Weve seen in terms of disclosures with wikileaks maybe contacted by cambridge analytica. Thats the focus of the investigation. Not who paid for what. When you say who are the gop people that backed it and walked away, what could the answer to that question tell us . I think there are several scenarios. One, maybe the gop Opposition Research simply left the race, didnt have a reason to go on. Maybe they saw something they didnt really want to disclose or have come out into the surface. So whenever we look at Opposition Research and who funded and for what reason, all campaigns are funding Opposition Research. What is startling, what was found in this Opposition Research if it turns out to be true. The investigation part, and also the Political Part and brian fallon, spokesman for Hillary Clinton, he tweeted about this yesterday, and then when talking about christopher steele, former spy in russia, put together the dossier he said, i regret i didnt know about Christopher Steeles hiring preelection. If i had i would have volunteered to go to europe and try to help him. Obviously trying to put the best possible face on it for the democrats, but politically, what are the implications here . Its certainly giving the white house something to talk about. I think politically its tough for democrats. The last thing they want, talk about the Clinton Campaign. Obviously something President Trump brings up regularly when he feels backed into a corner. Now the particular ed is actually point to a Washington Post article saying this was going on. Talking about me an my ties maybe the things ive done wrong. Look. Democrats are just as bad. I would note that sarp ah sande said the Washington Post should not be trusted and retweeted this Washington Post story showing me the white house is really interested in the story. Really interested in having this story go several more days. And even as they attacked the media they want to use the media to in ways take down the democratic party. Wapaul ryan was asked about e Washington Post article this morning. Its frustrating. Weve had documents requests with the fbi a long time and theyve been stonewallinging. Fbi and Justice Department needs to give congress the documents requested and do so immediately. So from the congressional perspective, and, again, you cant take that out of the political perspective, what does this mean . I think it it means, i think bipartisan interests in understanding what exactly happened during the 2016 election and both democrats and republicans saying they want documents. They have people saying they are wanting to look into russias ties, how this happened, whether or not this dossier is actually true. I think its probableatic for President Trump. He can say, yes, Hillary Clinton paid for this dossier to happen, he doesnt want even to establish the dossier exists and could rightened puts him in a problem, dealing with the Republican Party and other problems they have you have intelligence committees essentially looking after this and from my sourcing, republicans and democrats are both very much interested in trying to get to the bottom of what happened. To be continued. Thank you both. Appreciate it. Were learning now more about the four soldiers killed during an ambush in niger earlier in the month as pentagon officials prepare to brief the Senate Armed Services committee tomorrow. First deployment for one of the soldiers. Three others with limited combat experience. These latest developments raise more questions as to exactly what happened. U. S. Officials tell nbc news that the troops were attacked while pursuing intelligence on a Senior Member of isis. Joining me now, nbc pentagon hance ni hans nichols. A Communications Problem with the pentagon. Oh. Are you back, hans . Reporter i am. Lost you there. Sorry, chris. What about the soldiers what new reporting do you have from the pentagon for us. Reporter were learning about their actual experience, they didnt have a lot. This was a fresh team. Relatively new to the country and they were going out on this Reconnaissance Mission and somewhere in there, the Reconnaissance Mission took a slightly different take and they were ambushed on their way leaving that village in the morning. One of the issues is how quickly that drone got up and did they have whats called isr, Intelligence Surveillance and reconnaissance. The drone was up within minutes, but wasnt armed. Just a reconnaissance drone. Had a live video feed. Chris, the feed on that, we heard from general dunford, provided a long video feed likely giving them a good sense doing all of these afteraction reviews about just about whatted. Remember it came into the battle an hour into the battle. At that point, they could have a very. Sense how chaotic this battle was as they pore over and look at that drone feed. Chris . Weve heard a lot of conversation from people on the hill. Theyre not happy with the amount of information that theyve gotten or how quickly theyd gotten it. Your sense how much pressure is felt at the pentagon and what do we expect pentagon officials to sell the Senate Armed Services committee . Reporter you need only look at two backtoback press availabilities by the generals chief of shaf, get a sense how much the pentagon wants to actively and pro active counter this story and get as many facts as they have. Remember, its a remote part of the world. As they try to get all the facts out not just to congress but to the american people, but they keep saying, to the families of the deceased. Their first priorities. Making sure the families have all the information. Hans nichols, thank you. Up next, a fascinating conversation with six kentucky voters on the future of President Trumps agenda, and Steve Bannons war on the republican establishment. I didnt know where i was from ethnically. Its running much faster now. See . Its amazing, molly. Thank you. its getting increasingly difficult to answer the question, what are the morals and principles of our two Political Parties . What defines each party . Are there traditional values still alive, and how do Party Leaders fit in . Ive been talking with prsh republicans and democrats around the kirnt and over the weekend sat down with republican be voters in kentucky. Two never trump voters, two republicans and asked about the new face of the Republican Party burgeoning under candidate now President Trump and plus the unmistakable influence under former trump adviser steve bannon. Does steve bannon reflect your values . Pretty tough on the establishment. Quite franky will, someone needs to be tough on them. Why . In some cases theyre behaving more like democrats than republicans. I dont think a lot of them meant what they said. I think when push came to shove a lot of them didnt push. Is it donald trump . Is it Mitch Mcconnelling . Is it paul ryan . Is it every member of congress . Who hasnt sold their beliefs . Donald trump. Absolutely. I mean, hes the head of the party, needs to be out there leading and putting forward principles and selling them to the public. I think one of the things that has to remain in context and one of the reasons anxiety is there is because Republican Voters are looking for a victory. Seems like the republicans have their own type of resistance going on. Theyre not working to support the american first agenda the president laid out. Why do you think that is. Not every member of congress, not every member in the senate, is supporting that agenda. Whats more important at some point, supporting the man or supporting their principles elected on . They won the election this fall. How many are worried about this back and forth between the wings of the party . Republican infighting is not a new thing. Its always been pretty characteristic of the Republican Party to fight against itself. The concern i have with bannon in particular, when you talk about going up against someone like paul ryan, someone like John Barrasso in wyoming, these are individuals deeply conservative individuals as a general rule. So when we purge them from the party, whenever theres a war on these individuals, precisely what are we waging war for . Conservative values include a free market of ideas and competition and we believe thats good. It should be good in the party. The establishment, when its discussing strategy and so forth and writing bills, they have a tendency to leave the base. Leave the base out. The base is saying, look, no more. Were saying no more. Some of those challenges are valuable and all elected officials should have to answer that those things if waging war within the party. Have this exercise within the party. An effort to move closer to our valuing. What is the Republican Party now . Here to talk about that, kathleen. How you been . Good. Good to see you, chris. Fascinating stuff, really frs from those voters. A lot to get to. Start with the idea i heard from a number of them, that the ends justify the means. That they feel, for example, on judicial nominations, that was a big thing for them. They felt gorsuch and other federal judgeships, doing what he said, fighting the establishment. Exactly what he said he would do and willing to look away from the rest of that. Is that good for the Republican Party . I dont think its good in the long term, no. When you talk about someone like gorsuch. Hes a pretty mainstream conservative judge. So to the extent that President Trump did what he said he was going to do, it wasnt all that hard. I know many of the people who were on the study group to interview candidates and make recommendations. Hardly anyone was on the furthest right or more towards the middle of the Republican Party who wouldnt have, wasnt satisfied or gratified to have him. Does a win like that, the question, justify, one of the conversations weve had. A win like that, which they consider very important, justify some of the other stuff putting it aside. How they put it. Were willing to look past some of the things he says and does we might not like because ultimately were getting to these goals . Absolutely true. I think when you come to the motivating force for most republicans and the people we saul mr. Trumps base, youre actually the Supreme Court was everything. It was the most important thing to people who voted for trump even though they dont even like him. I think people lose when they lose focus on that particular issue, also the issue of religious freedom, which is, of course, tied to the Supreme Court nomination. Thats the most important factor. Theyll look the other way because, in fact, when some of us find President Trump the most offensive, they just shrug, because they dont its not important to them. Its just thats trump. Theyre willing to say, well, thats just trump being trump but were getting what we want. A strong advocate on social values whether trump believes these things or not. I firmly believe he doesnt care one way or the other about family values or social conservative but hes willing to give them what they want in terms of the Supreme Court and theres probably more to be made over the next seven years. And so theyre satisfied. To them, its just a big shrug when we complain about the way mr. Trump goes be his business. Exactly my experience as ive traveled for the people who support him. On the other hand, obviously i talked to them before jeff flake made his statement and gave all of these interviews today, but we talked about the jeff flakes, talked about the john mccains. You heard mention of John Barrasso. There is a concern even amongst some of his supporters that, what is your test now . If steve bannon comes in, decides somebody like barrasso is a target, people who have absolutely provable conservative track records, where does that leave us . The authority yeah. Its a big problem for the party. What im saying. Even if just left with im not sure what. Already had the, the rhino hunt. Already resulted in the tea party revelation and then the Freedom Party people, essentially moved, gotten all moderates out of the party. Except for a few. Those are now going out with this next, now its a kill the survivors approach to party governance. By the way, i was struck by the insartinsincerity. Yes. They believe, said the party is steering away from the base, steering away from the values, the free market values and things like this. Im thinking well, the party value now is really about loyalty to trump. Its no say this. I think we can say this now. Its no longer a Republican Party. It is a trump party. Its being refaxed refashioned and steve bannon and other operatives into this rather i would say powerhungry engine machine that isnt really about values so much as it is about power. And collecting scalps apparently. Collecting scalps. You get rid of bob corker, and jeff flake, youre getting rid of people who are moderateb moldserating voices and resonate with the people i talk to across the country than some of these people coming um on the rise who are really just a new crop of uber insurgents. Making the tea party and freedom foreign people look like cub scouts by comparison. The Republican Party that once existed does not exist any longer. As long as President Trump is in power and to the extent steve bannon is successful with his enormously rich backers, were not going to recognize the Republican Party after 2018 and certainly 2020. Kathleen parker, always good to talk to you. Thank you so much for coming on. Appreciate it. Thanks. One. When you see somebody like donald trump as the nominee of the Republican Party, what do you think of that . [ cheers ] you have somebody that has a vision that is uniquely different than most people. And when youre an entrepreneur and youre a successful entrepreneur, youre able to take risk and be innovative and think of things differently. Former chairman of the arizona Republican PartyRobert Graham speaking at a Trump Campaign rally with then governor mike pence last year. Now hes being talked about to fill the senate seat of senator jeff flake who isnt running in 2018. Flakes decision his up ended a crucial midterm race, what had been a primary challenge to flake, by former state senator kelly ward who has the backing of steve bannon. Robert graham, former chair of the arizona gop and potential contender for the senate joins me now. Good to see you. Good to see you as well. Are you running for the u. S. Senate . Definitely havent made a decision. As you can imagine, ive got six children are you close . Well, im going to head back to d. C. Next week to make sure we do the right thing for the family and this is a big job for the state and the country. Do those meetings include the president . You talked to the president before a rally in phoenix back in august. Are you going to see him when you go to d. C. . Have you been in touch with him since that rally . Not specifically, no. So this meeting will be more of a meeting of a number of operatives to make sure that we make good choices, as we look at all the facts and considerations as it relates to a senate race. You have name recognition. A donor base. You know your state from your time as chair. If you run, you would be facing former state senator kelly ward and steve bannon who is supporting her. How big a hurdle is Steve Bannons support for kelly ward in your Decision Making process . How much does that worry you . Its any opposition that you have, especially with somebody that has influence, its a hurdle. You look at it. One of the things you can do and our primaries are very late in arizona. So it gives you an idea, or gives you a time to come out with your ideas, your vision with how youll mcommunicate wih the base, any candidate that comes out and you can win people like steve bannon over. The one thing i can say about steve bannon is you think hed switch allegiances . I would suggest that kelly ward, when she has real opposition, somebody thats working hard, that has a command of the issues, that knows the state intimately, that kelly will have a hard time even surviving as a primary candidate. That doesnt mean me necessarily but somebody thats a legitimate, viable candidate thats way beyond just the onelike talking points. Somebody interested in winning for the people of arizona and furthering the president s agenda. Shes going to have difficulty. And what people want right now is they want the president s agenda to move forward. Steve bannon sees the opportunities we have as a nation and wants it to move forward. I think anybody that has capacity beyond that of kelly ward, steve bannon will likely throw his support behind that person if he believes in him. You sound like somebody reaching out at the least to steve bannon. Have you reached out to him or his people. Have there been any discussions that bannon could support you . In the past, i had a great relationship with steve bannon during the campaign. We reported to him almost on a daily basis. I had interactions with him lots. Every rally, great interactions. Post election, irnnteractions a it relates to nafta. Weve talked to people in his campaign about this possible senate race. Lately ive let things work itself out. He came here to the state and was encouraging behind kelly ward and so at that particular juncture, you look at things. The landscape has changed significantly. Ill tell you, kelly ward beating kyrsten sinima. Shes tried to moderate herself as a candidate. I look at kelly and see the numbers that have come out. Shes going to be challenged to have a chance to win the senate race. So your argument is steve bannon is, im more electable . I think right now that youll find that there likely is a viable candidate thats more electable. Robert graham, youll come back on and let us know . Youll announce here you bet. Did he just say i says i will be back in the future, for sure. Thank you. If all thoous this news flooding the airwaves feels like too much, take some advice from alberts einstein.
