Nunberg. Tell him i said hello. Hello back. Its all good. He says h eloqueello back. Im alex witt at msnbc world headquarters. High noon here. New reaction to north korea, Stormy Daniels and the impeachment attorney hire that the president says did not happen. Our policy is pressure. The economic sanctions have a very big impact. What i want to see, i think what all of us want to see is the prep work done for this kind of meeting. Did the president approve the payment that his personal lawyer made to Stormy Daniels . Not that im aware of. That hire has yet to happen officially but witch hunt or not, former Trump Campaign aid sitting here. Hes setting the record straight and will give me his take on Robert Muellers investigation into russias meddling. Plus, flying solo, who could be a strategy for the president by relying less on staff and going at it alone. But we begin with this live picture where the president is answering questions about a hush money payment from trumps lawyer to porn star Stormy Daniels. Here is the Deputy Press Secretary a bit earlier. Did the president approve the payment that his personal lawyer made to Stormy Daniels . Not that im aware of, but Michael Cohen, the attorney in question, has addressed this. The white house has addressed scary addressed it earlier this week and i have nothing further to add. Did the president reimburse Michael Cohen . No that i believe. Does the president believe stormy dan yeiels has a right t speak or demand she remaremain silent . The president slamming a New York Times reporter on an Oval Office Meeting on ing with a la that represented bill clinton. The president saying the failing New York Times purposely wrote a false story stating that im unhappy with my legal team on the russia case and im going to add another lawyer to help out. Wrong. Im very happy with my lawyers, they are doing a great job and shown conclusively that there was no collusion with russia. Just execution for losing. The only collusion done by the dnc, democrats and crooked hillary. As i said, former Trump Campaign aid sam nunberg is here. First, lets go to nbc Kelly Odonnell who will join us with more with a spokesman from the Mueller Investigation. Good day to you. Whats the latest at this noon hour . Good to be with you, alex. These questions what the future is for President Trump and the russia investigation always persist and there was specific focus on whether the president himself would be involved in an interview, would he consent to talk to investigators, maybe mueller himself. That has been a Sticking Point because when the president has responded to it over a period of months, he has shown a willingness to do so, even enthusiasm about doing so at times speaking about it as if its a way to cap this investigation. But the specifics from his team at the white house have always been that the president needs to rely on his legal team. The Principle DeputyWhite House Press secretary was asked about this this morning. The president has told me twice now, once last year and once this year that he will meet and talk to the special counsel, answer questions under oath. I assume the president plans to keep his word on that . Look, hes also said that that will be in consultation with his attorneys. They are going to be communicating back and forth. He said 100 to me, 100 yes. Is there any im sure he intends to. His attorneys are communicating with the special counsel on the specifics. A challenge to bridge the divide between the public statements and legal strategy that is being employed at this point from the president s team. What we have been reporting for sometime is that the president s legal team has been in touch with the mueller team talking back and forth about possibilities for an interview. We dont know the terms like would it be under oath . Would the length be . Would there be demands . Those complications go in on a matter of this scale. We dont know the timing. Certainly we heard the president is eager to have this wrapped up and we know the special counsel team believes you need to speak to the president in order to do that. Alex . All right. Kel Kelly Odonnell, thank you. Former Trump Campaign advisor sam nunberg is talking about the sevenhour appearance on friday before a grand jury on muellers probe. He went on a media blitz threatening to defy a subpoena that requested documents for ten people. He agreed to compile and sam nunberg joins me here in studio. Thank you for joining me. An honor. The last 15 to 20 minutes we got to know each other. Your demeanor is different than that depicted at times during this earlier week. Thank you very much. Before i get to the grand jury appear raance specifically right. I want you to explain to the viewers what your role is in the orbit of Donald Trumps world. How long did you work with him in the campaign . In a nutshell from mid 2011 to mid 2015. I was the First Permanent hire in late 2014 for the campaign. I helped recruit campaign manager. I helped recruit the staff for the early states, and i would say that roger stone and i had a Critical Role in helping President Trump who is always his own strategist develop a script that would really help make him who is gold in the hotel brand be gold in the political brand. Did that for officially six months from the beginning of the campaign, about that long . Six weeks. Just six weeks. He announced in june there was speculation before hand, you were trying to figure out if he would run, you were part of that team, as well . Basically, i knew he would run by around mid 2014 after he appeared in a New Hampshire freedom summit, which was done by afp and david boss group. It was the first time he attacked jeb bush and i remember meet the press and chuck todd saying i cant believe it, donald trump is attacking jeb bush and the crowd is clapping. They couldnt believe it. I could. Donald trump could. There was something going on there. Okay. And then with whom did you work most closely . You mentioned roger stone . He your point person . The way i like to describe it, first of all, roger had an eye problem. I dont want to go into detail so he couldnt be there that much until the campaign was officially announced but lets just say robger was the senior parter in. I have needed counsel before i would take something to mr. Trump. I would go through roger and i needed rogers opinion. Hes one of the greatest political minds. People can think what they want about him but thats just a fact. Since you left the campaign, how closely are you in touch with people in the white house or people with whom you had previously worked . All the people that i was in touch with the white house are no longer there. Im a very good friend of Steve Bannons. I believe in Steve Bannons most of his philosophy. And a lot of his team is not there anymore. Thats fine. Alex, ive never made a point to want to make money off this white house. Im in a separate sector now. Im in a separate career. All i want is this president to be successful as all americans should want. I want to get to your appearance now before the grand jury. Yes, maam. Did you come away from that feeling like you are in any personal legal jeopardy . No, i was never in any personal legal jeopardy and let me explain one thing about monday. What i was saying on monday was, was that somebody who and i dont want to go over personal ends and outs of donald trump but i want to Say Something else about donald trump. He did give me a lot of chances and i could have been a better employee and people should know that, as well. Even though it didnt end up well and i was sued. He meant a lot to me. Maybe once day we can have a relationship, maybe not. Im always told im not a subject or target and as long as you dont lie in the grand jury or your interview, thats it. Thats it for me. I have no criminal liability to the best of my knowledge and to what they have told me. But you could have put yourself into egg willlegal jeo bedefying tby defying the subpoena. What changed my mind to make my best effort to do the subpoena and produce the document, go through the effort is when i was sitting on this studio or that floor and i was on a panel after being interviewed with professor wiley who is very, very smart and what professor wiley said to me was you look like you have something to hide. Whether you think this is fair or not, this is the process and this is it. My point of saying that maybe its a witch hunt is there is no way i colluded with the russians because i wasnt on the campaign during that time. Right . I wasnt on the campaign when things were going on in the general election, possibly, i dont know, maybe, maybe not. And to put me through Something Like this and to be honest with you, it was very, very hard for me personally, as well and then to have to relive it and do this, it was a process. I want to make sure i get the quote right but you said it is not a witch hunt, it is warranted this investigation. Yes, it is. Because there is a lot there and thats the sad truth. So you do not believe this leads to the president. I dont believe it leads to the president. The president is going to have to explain and the president has to do an interview, i would say. I would highly suggest that he does. He has to explain why when they fired james comey and if it was up to me, the president would have fired james comey the day after he was elected during the transition but he has to explain why when he based the logic on the rosenstein memo and then the next day gives an interview to lester holt saying it had to do with russia. Okay, fine, maybe then we dont have a special counsel but then he has the russians in the oval office and by the way, who the hell in that white house let that happen . He was so ill served by his staff. It was unbelievable. Therefore, i dont think rosenstein had any choice but to put that special counsel. Here is what i also want to say. If they charge the president with and they are smart enough to know this, whatever they are going after the president , if they believe they have something against the president , it better be within the scope of that investigations mandate and not the wide brath of it. It better be within the scope of collusion with the russians, which i dont believe he did. To that end, what kind of questions did they ask you . My question, so obviously, i cant talk specifically about the questions. What i would say one, i like to say it was so back and forth and i dont know if the attorney who was doing it, i dont know if i can identify him but to me it felt like he was a teacher, boom, boom, boom, boom. There was nothing subjective. They didnt want to know my opinion. They didnt know what for facts. For facts. What do i know . Was this . What was that . What did you see and didnt see . Thats it. There was nothing there from what they wanted to know from me where they were looking once again, what do you think . Do you think about this . Did you refuse to answer any questions . No, absolutely not. Ill just say i dont know. There werent many instances of that. I went in for a voluntary interview where you tell you youre not a subject and target. You dont lie. So once they bring you into the grand jury room, they dont want to waste the time of the grand jury. The grand jury is not meeting every day. So they have limited time with them. So they just want to get through the factual elements that i gave them in my voluntarily interview. Okay. Did they ask you about russian involvement in the campaign, and you have said and youve just said it here that you believe there is no collusion but in order to prove whether or not there is collusion, they are trying to establish i would presume the presence of i will say. I will say and this is i dont think im leaking anything that the grand that the special prosecutor that the special counsel would be upset with. They are looking into whether there was coordination with the emails, of course they are and the and the hacking. They are looking into that. I have no idea, but i dont believe see, here is why i dont believe it. Vladimir putin is running an operation. Hes too smart to do it directly with the campaign. He didnt need to do it directly with the campaign. Are they asking you questions. I know you said they need to stay within the scope of russian collusion. If they indict the president. If they indict the president , it cannot be anything about a business thing. It cannot be anything before lets say he was running for office. So are they asking then questions about, say, obstruction of justice . Are they asking about Money Laundering . Thats the other reason i tell you they are very professional. They dont ask me anything about obstruction of justice because im not in the white house. So of course, they didnt ask me. Thats why im also saying this isnt a witch hunt. This is not a witch hunt and the taxpayers are getting their moneys worth. These people, people like me republicans, we have this idea all government workers are burro cats and do nothing but surf on the web. The people ive dealt with, these are people that fortune 50 companies would hire and i was so impressed by them. Okay. But you say this is not a witch hunt, sam and say there is a lot there. What is the there . Does that consist of . What happened is when i first got the call, i hadnt studied any of this. I was rude to the fbi agent who i have later apologized. Hey, youre a new yorker. [ laughter ] but when i have to go into when i have to go into lets say, not a lions den but party against party, im not interested really in looking lets say in a campaign. Im not interested in looking initially i know it as an a exert how to message to republicans. I have to see how the message to dem kra democrats. I studied everything writers have written. There were books about this. Yes, this is legitimate to have the special counsel, and thats why i also think the president should meet with him and get this over with. Get it over with because does that mean youre implying you do not think Robert Mueller has anything regarding russia and this president . I would hope not, and i dont think the president would do Something Like that. Maybe im wrong, maybe im not. I dont believe he would do Something Like that during the campaign. I think hes too smart. I think he really is too short, as well. The same way putin wouldnt directly collude with the campaign. There are other issues, though, too. There are a lot of weird connections. There is a lot of stuff going on there. I dont understand why carter page had to go to moscow when there are issues talking about weird russian connections with the campaign. Were you asked about that, about carter page . I was asked to produce any communications ive had with him. I never communicated with carter page. I heard about him in the city a long time and heard he was trying to do Russian Energy projects. Vladimir putin is not a threat to america but hes the number one benefactor of assad and iranians. Okay . Im i think that those are two major threats to america and american interest. So with regard to russian collusion or russian influence in the Trump Campaign and ultimately potentially in this election, do you have any personal knowledge of anything that you disclosed to the mueller team . No, because i wouldnt anyway because as you recall, i dont know if the audience knows, i endorsed ted cruz during the primaries. You did. I was sued during the summer, it was actually the week before the convention. I was sued. And then frankly, as ive said, i really wanted the president to lose with blinding out my feelings about Hillary Clinton up until the access Hollywood Tape was released and i thought that was too much for me, for the tape to be released, not what he said, for them to release that tape. That was a bridge too far for me and i thought about the Supreme Court and i thought about other issues. So do you have a sense based on the questioning how large a role obstruction of justice may be playing in the Mueller Investigation . I dont. Once again, they didnt ask me about it because i would have no once again, as i said before, and this is why this is not a witch hunt, this is not a witch hunt is all they want to know is knowledge that i could have firsthand knowledge of. All they want to know are facts. They are not asking sam what do you think about this . Are your feelings about that . So seven hours a is a long time. Wasnt seven hours. Thats misreported. I was in the bidding sevuilding hours. How long were you asked questions . Four, four and a half maybe. Still a long time. Give me a sense of the tenure. They were very professional. The people across this country are fascinated by this. Let me explain the room. You walk into the room and its almost like i describe it like a classroom because the attorney whose asking me the questions is standing up and standing there. There is a screen there when they want to show exhibits behind him. There is he has an assistant attorney standing next to him assisting him and handing him documents and writing things and thats typical, too. When i worked for jay secular he would do that. There was somebody else next to me and i dont know if that was another attorney but they were there watching the room. Then there is me sitting here and what i did is just faced him and just went back and forth with him, with the person who was asking me the questions. And then the grand jury is in front of me. I would Say Something about this grand jury, too. These are people taking this very seriously. When i did look at them, they are taking notes. They were intentatively looking at me and taking this and they were also paying attention. Paying attention and also people that represented all parts of america, if i can be absolutely. Robert mueller was or was not there. No and thank god because that wouldnt be good for me after mondays okay. So do you regret what youve said on earlier appearances . Do you regret monday . Absolutely not. Monday was fun. It was fun. By the end of it, once again, after professor wiley told me and explained to me why you have to do this and my lawyer explained to me, as well. Part of it is you have to show youre being honest is they give you this subpoena and you have to produce these things to continue to show that you are you know, continue to show the veracity of your comments. Okay. Fine. It was psychologically difficult for me to have to live through that experience again. Alex, when is the last time somebody had phones like that . It would be p orkpodus. A tv melt down. I think i melted down tv that day. Its a clever way to spin it all. You didnt melt down the tv here. You were thank you so much. Ill look forward to that, as well. Thank you. Thank you, alex. Joining me now, john harwood and good day to you both. John, you just heard sam nunberg there, i want to get your reaction to what sam is saying and hes listening and looking at you on tv. My take away was when sam nunberg said this is not a witch hunt and there were a lot of weird connections. I think that is the those are the bottom line points as we all sit back and wait to see what Robert Mueller produces. I understand completely sam saying that he wouldnt know anything about obstruction of justice because he wasnt in the white house and he wouldnt know anything probably about what happened during the Campaign Given how quickly he left the campaign, but it is obvious that there is a lot there. Thats why weve got guilty pleas from Michael Flynn and rick gates and cooperating witnesses and russians on social media having been indicted by Robert Mueller and now the question is was there coordination on the hack and the hack . The big question hangingover the preside president and the president is concerned showing by the weetwe. Is there a lot there about what . The hacking . With regard to hacking. With regard to potential collusion, not necessarily here let me as an observer, okay, im not a reporter but observer, i would say it was it seems a little strange and you would know more about what im talking about that wikileaks issued more emails when the access Hollywood Tape was relessased Something Like that. Correct, it looked more than coincidence and, and as julian assan assanges messages were leaked, he hates her. So sure, there is some coincidences there. So, alixi, what do you make of sams comment about the investigation needing to stay in the scope of the russia collusion . We know muellers investigation expanded beyond that . Right, weve seen how broad it can be and all the different types of things hes looking at and the interesting thing about using the term scope, by definition hes given a very large scope. He can look at anything related to this issue of collusion. So its not just collusion. Were looking at him following the money. Following debt. That is something that could obviously get to President Trump and already getting to those close to him. Okay. Sam wants to comment. What i say about scope is anything they potentially charged the president with and i doesnt believe they will in my opinion, humble opinion cannot start. It cannot be something that he did before the day he announced for his presidency. If he had a weird business deal, if he had Something Else, which i dont believe then he cant be charged with that once hes a private citizen again. Those things can lead to the weird connections. There would have to be a very good argument made. It would have to be a very, very good argument. You said they were professional and doing a great job and i think they would be able to find that very good argument or those connections you mentioned even if it was before he ran for president. So i think again, the scope is so large and if they use things from before he started running to then prove something, thats within the scope. John, i want to switch gears and ask you about the New York Times reporting president is in talks with a lawyer that represented bill clinton during the impeachment process and the president is slamming this report calling it false but one of my guests today that worked with this attorney told me this about him. I worked with him in the white house. Hes a very tough lawyer, a serious lawyer. A serious law firm. He has a degree from the law school. This is a serious move by the trump effort to defend him. Hes represented bill clinton in the impeachment proceedings and Vice President cheney and president push in the white house on matter dealing with congress on the investigations and so hes representing a wide range of folks. What he is a tough, smart, hard working lawyer that will really put the screws to the Mueller Investigation and make it tough for them and really defend his client. Well see how this plays out. John flood has the credit. What do you think about it . Well, President Trump needs very good lawyers because hes in big trouble. Per our previous conversation, we still dont know what rick gates, George Papadopoulos and Michael Flynn have told Robert Mueller about what President Trump did but we do know there is a very difficult election environment for republicans, special election on tuesday and democrat favored to win. Democrats are now favored to win the house in the fall and if the democrats do, in fact, win the house in the fall, there is a very good chance they will impeach President Trump. The idea he would be in talks with a veteran of the clinton impeachment process suggestions prudence and concern on the white houses part. Okay. Alexi, your reaction to emit flood . It clearly suggestions trump is trying to shake up his own legal team and take a new legal approach to muellers russia probe. T ty cobb said this would wrap up by thanksgiving, its not. Its getting broader and closer to trump. Hes looking for a way to sort of navigate muellers probe in a way he hopes is beneficial to him. All right. Given the conversation one more thanks to sam nunberg and john harwood and alexi. Thanks, guys. According to our next guest, being offered a summit with north korea is like waking up with a baby on the doorstep. He explains what that means next. sup, world . Who knows whats going to happen. Hey, who knows. If it happen, maif it doesnt. I may leave fast or we may sit down and make the greatest deal for the world and these countries including north korea and thats what i hope happens. Joining me is Senior Research fellow. Bruce clinger. Bruce, welcome to you. You heard the president there. He may leave fast or he may make the greatest deal in the world. What are your thoughts . I think hes pointing out that we really dont know what will happen. Really, the summit invitation for both the u. S. President and the south korean president were really up nexpected. Its been a whirlwind. They have heavy Strings Attached with security guarantees and a long list of demands including the defense treaty, removal of the u. S. Troops and the list goes on. The one thing north koreans clambered for is the removal of troops in south korea. If they do Something Like that, does that indicate that are not serious about the talks because they got to presume there is no way the United States would compile. On one hand its a Welcome Development and moves us back from impending military clash. The focus is on diplomacy and getting to negotiations. So forth korea has been saying for years they are not going to give up the treasured Nuclear Weapons and changed the constitution in 2013 to inshien themselves as a nuclear state. They want to get back to square one of the failed negotiations. If they keep the requirements that the u. S. Do all the removal of troops, et cetera, thats a none starter. You tweeted out something, the unexpected north korean offer of a summit is like waking up to a baby on the doorstep. Maybe an ugly one but you have to bring it inside. I have to be careful on my tweets. I also said it was like a korean game of thrones. Its unexpected. It is not what we want. We want north korea to make the announcement and not shuttle it through of what they say north korea agreed to. We would like a public affirmation and we would have liked a more direct they would denuclearize and the normal proceapr procedure is working through the echelon moving up to a more senior level. Here is more of top down. Its really a different game plan than we had before. I want to listen to what former state Department Employee evans riviere had to say. Here it is. The president is convinced or has been convinced that the north koreans have committed themselves to denuclearization. They have done no such thing and so far, there has not been a single utterance by the forth co north Korean Leader or media. No public reference. We should be concerned about this. What is your reaction to that . Why would the president say north korea is committed to denuclearization now. I agree with evans, longtime colleague and friend. North cokorea has not said anything. There are times in the past where they come out of a meeting and issue parallel press statements and dont sound alike or remotely alike. We would like north korea to come out and say they agreed to the summits and they will pledge the denuclearization. Were really flying in uncharted air space here. North korea invited president clinton back in 2000 to a summit but the Clinton Administration refrained from that because they had not had a predictive n tivi negotiation. They had simply said send the president , hell be happy. In a way, were picking up where the Clinton Administration refused to go back in 2000. All right. Browse clinger given these talks were scheduled for around may if they happen, its probably the first new series. Wed love to have you back again. New today, Stormy Daniels say her bookings have gone up despite a gag order to keep herher herry her silence. Has anyone offered to pony up the Million Dollars to protect her and say here, im good for it. Go tell your story. At least ten individuals in the last three days alone. Are any of them larry flynn . No, not that i know of. Is she contemplating taking any of those ten offers . No. Joining me now Investigative Reporter for the wall street journal michael. Why would stormy just acre cement o accept one of these offers and be free to speak her truth . The answer is i dont know. She probably has a game plan. I think she just at first wants the legal freedom because she did sign a nondisclosure. Shes pilfiled a lawsuit in los angeles to get out of that agreement and until that happens, shes probably not going to be she probably wants to not deal with penalty. All right. Here is what stormys lawyer tweeted out. Let me get this straight, cohen claims he borrowed 130,000 on his house and pays interest to give that same 130,000 to a woman who according to him was lying. What do you think of this tweet and his tactic of taking a legal battle into the court of Public Opinion . Well, basically, the question is why is donald trump and Michael Cohen still trying to keep this quiet . They have been denying this. Stormy daniels told her story to a magazine. Did it in 2011. Its been out there. It was published a few weeks ago. If there is nothing else that they dont want to come out they would just say okay, go ahead and tell your story. You already told it, right . It leads us to believe there is probably Something Else they dont want the public to know. There may be Text Messages that could show donald trump is lying about not having an affair with Stormy Daniels and perhaps he told the first lady he didnt have an affair with her and if stuff comes out that could be problematic for him. For sure. I know you said Michael Cohen has not been reimbursed for the payment to daniels. That actually is not what we reported. We reported he used his own money and that he was complaining afterwards he had not gotten reimbursed. Since then there is a possibility he was repaid directly, indirectly by donald trump or otherwise. How about adding an extra 130,000 in legal bills. It could happen. There could be bonuses. The Trump Organization refused to detail what they have paid Michael Cohen since this happened. We still dont know all the answers here. You have an article in the wall street journal i want to read the title for, trump lawyer won ordinary tore silence daniels. Is that a win for the president . Not really. Its a preliminary injection. Shes also contesting the validity of that ash station and saying the forum is the courtroom where she filed the lawsuit. All that has yet to play out and well see. You guys have been reporting the you know what out of this story and you have to get commended for doing so. What do you think is next based on everything you know and the tra j trajectory . Its likely shes going to he tell her story and thats going to raise whether Michael Cohen have been truthful. There are various complaints about Campaign Finance investigations and we may get answers as far as money goes. Do come see us again. Thank you for the interview. President trump firing up voters ahead of tuesdays special election to replace republican congressman tim murphy that resigned following allegations he urged his lover to have an abortion. They are locked in a neck and neck race even though trump won here by almost 20 points in 2016. Msnbc yasmin asked trump voters which way they are leaning. I want to start by a show of hands who voted for President Trump in 2016. All right. So youall voted for President Trump. Who here is leaning towards conner lamb by a show of hands . You are. Who is undecided . No one. Who is leading toward rick . Are you decidedly rick sicone . I saw he brought certain principles out and talked about make america can great again, control immigration, reform our tax code. He laid out a plan that made sense to me and i was able to get my head around that. What is your reservation . To lamb . Yes. I dont know enough about him to say it swings me that far oey way or the other. I figured with why not try him . Huh . Why not try him . Im not convinced. We have two candidates. There is no policy by either one of them. By voting for saccone, im not running into a mess where democrats are resisting President Trump and talking about trying to impeach him that will be a disaster for the country. Now i have to pick the worst of the best of two bad choices. Jason, youre up. Why do you want to vote for conner lamb . Odd man out in this crew. When this election started to happen, i really had no clue. Ive heard of saccone. I never heard of lamb. Saccone has never been where hes at but i have no clue what he stands for. Hes had his chance. Not the outsider mentally. He seems like a person that can hear both sides. This election has become more about the president than it has really filling the position and thats a shame because i think the universe is so bit early divided. When you look at the democratic agenda, it seems to be nothing but lets obstruct the president. So unpofortunatunfortunately, w faced with having to make a decision who can get the most done here or bring help to this region, right now i think anybody that can help forward the president s agenda is and that likely person would be saccone. For in talking to people around you and you yourself, do you feel like a vote for aside from some people like jason, a vote for saccone is a vote for trump. Absolutely. And a vote for lamb is a vote against trump . Absolutely. Have you heard for people that voted for trump in this district are jumping ship and wanting to vote for lamb . Not in the circles i run with, no. John . More the other way. More the other way. I dont believe this election here is a referendum on trump. Okay . Regardless of what the outcome is, i dont think if saccone wins, Everybody Loves trump. If lamb wins, everybody hates trump and the national argument, as well, you know, emboldens them. I want to see trumps agenda given a chance. Right here, right now these eight or nine months, the mostfemost effective person has a tool to get President Trumps agenda through would be saccone. Com at that pennsylvania rally last night, the president brushed aside issues in his white house, including Stormy Daniels and growing number of staff departures. Lets bring in howard dean, former dnc chairman and former governor of vermont and susan del percio. My dynamic duo. Welcome. What do you make of the president s attitude towards all of this . The president s attitude is hes happier in Campaign Mode than governing mode. He wants to do more rallystyle events in 2018, the problem is, of course, theres a lot of republicans who dont want to be seen with the president because of his poor governance and leading to bad poll numbers. You have to wonder, howard, the impact all these looming controversies have on the president s ability to focus and lead this country effectively. Well, i dont think he is focused or leading this country effectively. I think hes doing a number of interesting things, but because his personal style is obnoxious and offensive to so many americans, hes incapable of unifying the country. Its impossible to lead the country unless it is unified. You know, we have the new developments in the russia probe, susan. Stormy daniels story unfolding, the president making the sudden decision to take on kim jongun on his offer to lead face to face. Do you think theres any connection between the two . Was the president trying to shift the narrative to his favor away from Stormy Daniels and other issues when he accepted the invitation from kim jongun . Visually, so many shiny objects can be put in front of him at once. The north korea situation is more about his desire to be the first president to do something. Everything weve heard him roll out, he wants to be the president who was able to do something that no one else was able to do. I dont think he actually understands whats at stake here and what goes into making this kind of meeting happen. So i dont think it will happen. But according to donald trump it probably will in some shape or form. Lets face it. Theres no way to predict the outcome particularly given these two characters in the meeting. How are the at least deserves credit forg getting to this point, getting to direct talks with north korea. I am one of the very few people on either side of the aisle that thinks its a good idea. Hes unlikely to succeed. But we have a 50year Foreign Policy approach to north korea that hasnt worked. So why not try this . Yes its bad for his prestige. It isnt so great anyway. Its completely out of the box. Completely out of box and the diplomats must be horrified. You know, what do we have to lose except american prestige and thats not very high these days anyway. I dont disagree with the governor on that aspect. Im questioning if it will get to that point because i just dont well, thats true. Thats what i question. Will this meeting ever take place. Right. I agree with you, governor, being out of the box like this. Thats great. We dont know if its going to happen. Right. The end result is a long way from being proven. Thats for sure. I want to switch gears, move to the New York Times article. Ill start with you, howard, on this. The president tweeting about this headline. Trump talks with clinton impeachment lawyer, President Trump calls it a false story, really happy with his current legal team. How do you interpret all of this . Trump often gets caught like this in leaks and tries to lie his way out of it. Nobody believes a word he says. So it would be a smart thing to do. His legal team is not strong. The clinton team was very strong. I think its probably true and i think its a good idea for trump to do this. All right. Listen, guys, i have to wrap it up there because sam nun berg took a lot of time. I know you were listening to that. I look forward to talking soon. What we learn from the Stormy Daniels lawsuit, does it show President Trump is vulnerable to blackmail . The New York Times says this lawyer who helped president clinton during his impeachment could become part of President Trumps legal team. President trump is reacting and so are legal experts. Its an important, huge piece of news about the potential defense by trump in terms of the
