Account. Its unclear who made it and how it first appeared on social media cnn has fired back with its own statement saying it is a sad day when the president of the United States encourages violence against reporters. Clearly Sarah Huckabee sanders lied when she said the president had never done so and instead of preparing for his over seas trip his first meeting with Vladimir Putin dealing with north korea, and working on his Health Care Bill, he is involved in juvenile behavior blowing the dignity of his office. We will keep doing our jobs. He should start doing his. Meanwhile, the senate is weighing in on its Health Care Battle including senators land pal and ben sasse calling for repealing obamacare now and replacing it at a later date. That would be a proposal President Trump supports. I dont think were getting anywhere with the bill we have. Were at an impasse. Every time you add more federal money, more spending for the Big Government republicans it offends the conservatives so right now this bill, which is not a repeal, has become the kitchen sink. Im not talking about repeal only. Republicans need to stop pretending that everything worked well in American Health care before 200910 when obamacare was pass the and democrats need to stop pretending that obamacare is working. Until they say they will sign onto the Health Care Freedom act, im not sure were ready for bipartisanship. He is our president and i want him to succeed. I want him to know that there are democrats that want to work with him, but right now they cant even repeal it. They cant get 50 votes to repeal it because somebodys getting hurt more than what theyre willing to sign on to. A quick update. An apology for the graphic we had. The cnn statement saying the juvenile behavior is below the dignity of his office. We apologize for that. I want to go to Nbcs Kelly Odonnell in bridgewater, new jersey. Kelly, a lot of reaction to all of this. Obviously exactly what the president wants. What are you hearing . Reporter well, certainly when the president uses his twitter feed he has told us his intention there. It is to reach his collectively about 100 million followers across the different platforms who subscribe to his feed. He wants to reach them without the filter of professional journalists and organized Corporate Media and he wants to do that. This is unusual because it is a video that shows donald trump in his life as an entertainer years ago, about a decade ago, i think it was a billionaires brawl between himself and Steve Mcmahon vince mcmahon. Story Steve Mcmahon. And this was a video that at the time was intended to be fun. Now its seen in a different context when he is the president and it is at a time when he is challenging the media. It is certainly serving the purpose of getting people to talk about that and not a lot of the other substantive policy issues that are sort of at the doorstep of this administration. Everything from health care to how to deal with Vladimir Putin next week. Now of course when Something Like this happens and the timing was obvious, its a sunday morning at a time when the sunday Morning Panel shows with lawmakers and analysts are on television across the networks, there was instant reaction from some of the guests, including utah senator mike lee who is not a trump strong supporter but he is a republican, a conservative who has at times really taken the president to task for some of his comments. Heres how mike lee reacted about the way the president is trying to use his social media to reach out. The president of the United States is a unique man. He campaigned on a very aggressive platform that involved draining the swamp. The president takes a unique approach, one that differs from many of his predecessors. Yeah. Reporter and weve seen other members of the administration in recent days defending the president s tweet messages saying he has a right to defend himself and that he does have a genuine quality of trying to reach out to the public. At the same time, critics are saying this particular imagery, some people will see it as a spoof on wrestling, sort of make believe, mock violence. Others see it at a time where it is coming off of the congressional baseball shooting, the heated rhetoric in our country and see tackling, you know, the president as a figure tackling cnn or any media outlet, they see that as a troubling sign. So it has certainly sparked conversation, lots of reaction, differing views about the purpose of this, but the president is doing this in his official capacity using perhaps Government Resources to put this altogether and to send it out for the public to talk about. And were not talking about health care, Vladimir Putin meeting, were not talking about the g 20 summit coming up next week. We do certainly cover those issues, but in that moment when he gets a big bang for a tweet, perhaps its exactly what he wanted to do to provoke a response and a conversation. Thats certainly happening. Thomas . Sorry about that, kelly. I was pulling up the video on the trump tweet just looking at it myself. Theres nothing more humorous and hilarious or fake than wrestling and Donald Trumps performance right there taking on vince mcmahon. Also side note as you know so well, kelly, part of the cabinet is Vince Mcmahons wife. Shes the administrator of the Small Business administration so great question linda mcmahon. Yes. Great questions that you asked about what type of resources where the taxpayer dollars were spent to put this together. Kelly, great job. Reporter i have asked the white house, by the way. I have asked the white house to respond to what resources of the federal government may have been involved in this. I have not yet received a response. Ive asked if the president personally tweeted this himself . We know he has great control over his twitter feed but there are times when staffers do tweet on his behalf. Im waiting to get an answer back on those questions. Were taxpayer dollars by extension of a federal employee being used or was this the president acting on his own . Thomas . Kelly odonnell reporting in new jersey for us. Thanks again. Coming from both the personal account as well as the president ial account for the 45th president of the United States. I want to bring in congressman ted lu, a democrat of california and member of both the judiciary and Foreign Affairs committees. Sir, you have also taken to twitter to express your outrage and disdain for the type of behavior that weve seen from donald trump. Also you tweeted just not that long ago about seeing the 25th amendment, you know, trending on twitter right now. What do you make of all of this . And is it really worth the amount of time and effort that not only you and your colleagues are having to concentrate on it but the media in general . Thank you, thomas, fos your question. I believe it is. Donald trump has had a series of highly disturbing tweets, but his last one on sunday morning was beyond disturbing. We now have the president encouraging violence against the niesd yeah. He is increasing the risk that a journalist is going to get injured or get killed, and that is wildly inappropriate. It also shows that this is whats in the president s mind. He is thinking about violence. Hes thinking about assaulting a reporter. But how is this any different, sir, than what we saw at all the rallies during the primary or any of the instances where donald trump would either encourage violence of those that would stand up in protest, you know, get that guy, ill pay for your legal fees, or turn around and look at those people, those are the most disgusting, dishonest people, turning the entire audience to the media and trying to make them the enemy . How is this any different from those moments . Thats a great point. Those were wildly inappropriate, but now he is president. It is entirely different when the president of the United States is encouraging violence against other human beings and against journalists and thats what makes this so different. I served on active duty in the u. S. Military because i love america. When we send our troops in harms way, they need to know that the president is of sound mind, rational and doing it for the right purposes and these tweets make us question that. Do you feel though that with the fact that youve had to respond, certainly some of the language that youve used kind of turning around the phrase about crooked on him saying dear crooked donald trump its not your use of social media, its how you use it. And then going after him that way and also dumb as a rock. Do you think youre getting down in the mud with him . You know what they say about that, when you do that to yourself. Do you think thats effective . I remember Michelle Obamas wonderful phrase when they go low, we go high. I also realize that democrats lost the election so i am not going to cede any part of the conversation. When they go low, im going to fight back and im going to point out to the president and use the words right back at him because it really shows how ridiculous his own words are. Thats part of the point of the tweets. Well, that was certainly during the election, you know, and that could be a great phrase that was used is not to have to compete on his level at that time, but what about now as he is the sitting president , as you are a sitting congressman, doesnt it only perpetuate the type of discourse that so many are trying to work to end in d. C. . That is a very good point. We all should be more civil in our discourse, but im not going to let unanswered when the president tweets out false things or things encouraging violence or things suggesting that he is mentally not well. I am going to point those out and highlight them to the american public. When you say not well though, are you going a bridge too far in making an accusation like that without any type of proof other than these tweets and an assumption that you think that this would not be standard behavior for a president that then draws people in and the use of drawing those people in fake news, fake news and the type of ammunition that this administration and its supporters would use against people that want to have an intellectual conversation about policy, this administration, our future . I am happy to have an intellectual conversation with the president about health care, about Vladimir Putin, about north korea, but when he tweets out these incoherent messages or messages encouraging violence, we need to respond and we need to highlight this because donald trump is a leader of the free world, the most amazing country in the world and we need to understand, is he up to the job . Is he mentally capable of doing this job . Is there anything you can do to find out through the committees that you sit on . Is there any action that you can forward to see about that request being met . I am asking the Republican Leadership for their help. They need to put country above party. We need an intervention. They need to intervene because something is not right right now with the white house and with the president of the United States. And when you talk about the meeting with Vladimir Putin coming up, what do you want to see from this president and that first facetoface meeting with him . Do you anticipate that this president will challenge him about the collective judgment of our Intell Community that, yes, russia was the one that interfered meddling in our 2016 election . I do not have confidence the president is going to do that. Thats part of the problem. I want the president to go to Vladimir Putin and say, do not oppose the u. U. S. In syria, do t do things against u. S. Interest in ukraine and do not medal in our elections. I have no confidence. Congressman ted lieu. Thank you for joining us. We a look forward to having you back on msnbc in the future. Thank you. What president obama is doing behind the scenes to rebuild the democratic party. A lot of people have been asking what the message is for the future. How can they ever ask them to get back the house and senate . An author on that topic joins me next. Im pretty proud of the president for developing a twitter and social media platform where he can talk directly with the american people. Youre in charge of Homeland Security there. That seems like a threat. Yeah, certainly not though. I think that no one would perceive that as a threat, i hope they dont. I think hes beaten up in a way on cable platforms that he has a right to respond to. White house Homeland Security adviser Thomas Bossert defending a controversial video of the president tweeting this morning, that image there. Joining me now is amy barns and jeremy peters, reporter for the New York Times and an msnbc contributor. Gang, great to have you on this morning. Amy, let me start with you. Your reaction to seeing this . I mean, is it really that big of a shock or should we all just be completely outraged at something so juvenile . I just think it keeps the narrative going, this twitter narrative, of what else is donald trump going to do next . Thats problematic for him. Were not talking as kelly said earlier about his policies, the g20 and what might happen there and were not talking about health care which was his one of his first and most major policy he wanted it to be a major policy achievement for himself. Thats not going well. And were sitting here on a sunday afternoon now talking about what he did on twitter. And a lot of republicans behind the scenes are bgetting increasingly frustrated with this. I think it is dipping into how people are perceiving health care, and i think that, you know, he needs to kind of winnow all of this down and be a little bit more president ial if hes going to have republicans in the caucus work with him to put out legislation like health care. Jeremy, about the reaction there that we heard from the Homeland Security advisor, Thomas Bossert, does that, you know, surprise you that they would dismiss this so quickly, gloss over the importance of the president , how he communicates and words and images, they certainly do matter. Thats exactly right, thomas. I dont think theyre left with any other choice though, confront their boss, the president of the United States on National Television and say that they disagree with him, that they think hes being impetuous, undisciplined and even reckless. Certainly thats privately what a lot of republicans are saying. Publicly its even what some republican senators have said about his tweeting about Mika Brzezinski last week. This, as you know, is what the president s campaign looked like. Its what the first 100 days of his presidency looked like and its probably what the next 1,000 days of his presidency will look like. Donald trump is not a changed man. He has not been changed by the office in a way that people expected he would. Its kind of like telling your 70 somethingyearold parent to change their ways. Im sure you know how difficult that can be. I see trump in a lot of the same ways. Hes set in his ways and i dont think hes going to change. But when it comes, amy, to what the president actually has control over, his legislative accomplishments are nothing. Executive orders, out the ying yang, and the only thing he really has control over is twitter. I mean, when you think about it right. Thats the only thing that he has access to with his thumbs privately without consultation is twitter. And is that right. Where we see the real man . I think so. And i think thats why were reporting on it as we should, his every movement on twitter. Its New Territory for us, i think, because president obama would use twitter, you know, sporadically here and there when he felt the need to weigh in on legislation, but he certainly wasnt taking punches, so to speak, on the press or on, you know, whatever beef he has that day. He was using it to move forward on legislation and to push his agenda, and thats i think thats why its problematic for President Trump. Do you remember, jeremy, how much flak the president , obama, got for the between two ferns moment with Zach Galifianakis talking about health care and folks reacted, god, this was beneath the dignity of the office, i cant believe this. Those are some yearnful days right about now. Almost makes this seem high minded, doesnt it . Yes. I think thats right. Donald trump, one of the most remarkable things that he has done as president is completely change the expectations about what a president s behavior should be. He as we know was never a politician to begin with, never pretended to be, and came in kind of shattering the mold. I think that as i said earlier, dont expect to see this change. If theres one comment that i think has been the most salient and relevant that trump has made over the course of his presidency so far, its the one that he told Time Magazine first and then repeated at his rally this weekend, im president and youre not. To him, thats all the validation, all the answering that he needs to do. Hes president and hes going to do things his way. Thats something you would hear at kindergarten, this is mine, not yours, nannynannybooboo. The low brow teasing that you would not anticipate from the leader of the free world. He won the election. It doesnt seem like he even gets that he won the election. Its almost like it didnt sink in or something because he has to keep reminding everybody and himself. Amy and jeremy, for both of you, amy, let me ask you first, white house advisers, staff, people within the white house, can they honestly say with a straight face that this is okay, that this is normal, that this is president ial behavior . Well, i think you saw Sarah Huckabee sanders say as much and other people have said as much today, but i think behind the scenes a lot of people are uncomfortable with it. Ive been hearing from donors who are uncomfortable, other republicans. I think its going to continue to spread and i think that is also what will be problematic for President Trump because he will lose support on capitol hill. The people he needs to kind of work with, i think this doesnt look good for him. I think theyre kind of begging him at this point to kind of scale it back a little. What hes doing, hes playing to his base. Right. He thinks his base likes this and this is why he continues to do it. Jeremy, heres the thing. Crazy like a fox. How do you have Mitch Mcconnell come out and have to react to Something Like this or a paul ryan or a mike pence or any of these other straightlaced guys who have been around d. C. For a very long time, is that what he wants almost in a way, to remain this outsider and in some ways be so ineffective that hes got to go . Right. I think theres a tendency to game this out in a way that assumes theres a grand strategy behind it, thomas, when, in fact, its just impulse and a lack of discipline. This is not donald trump sitting and scheming with his aides about how he can pick a fight with the media. Now dont get me wrong, there are two schools of thought about this inside the white house. There are those that believe that broadly speaking using the media as a scapegoat is helpful, but those same people will also say they do not think it is helpful for donald trump to pick fights with individual reporters as hes done time and time again on twitter. So theres a i think when you look at this, whats most important to realize is that this is not donald trump gaming this out in his head, its him just reacting in the moment. Living in the moment. Thats the way hes always been. Somebody had to help him on this. We know he doesnt have a laptop and figure out how to take that cnn logo and put it over Vince Mcmahons face and travel it along. Amy, you have this piece out today that looks at how former president barack obama is working behind the scenes to help rebuild the brand of the democratic party, messaging. Explain how involved he is with leadership currently and what youre hearing about the direction that he wants to try to help them in terms of messaging and gaining brand support. Yeah. So hes been quite involved. I think a lot of people thought that, you know, hes out, he was in indonesia, he was out kind of water skiing and on vacation for a couple of months, but he is really very involved, which i found really interesting. People close to him say that hes been having meetings. He met privately with at least half a dozen lawmakers recently at his office. Hes been calling people on the phone. Hes been doing this on a byrequest basis for people who feel like they need help in terms of message, in terms of policy. And, you know, youre seeing this kind of division in the party right now and the party is kind of searching for its identity, and i think hes kind of coaching a lot of people through that. You know, a lot of people are saying do we go left and aim to progressives . What do we do with the White Working Class . How do we win those folks back . Hes kind of behind the scenes weighing in and giving people advice because he was able to do that in 2008 and 2012. Amy, great to have you on. Great piece. Amy barnes and jeremy peters. Jeremy, great to see you. I hope you both have time off to spend with family and friends for the fourth. Stay off twitter. Thanks. Thank you. Kind of messy right now. Thanks, guys. Marshals make two arrests following yesterdays nightclub shooting in arkansas. A sustained burst of gunshots rang out inside the power ultra lounge. This was cell phone video captured inside that club. Nbcs Maya Rodriguez joins us from the scene in little rock. Explain the arrests. Theyre not directly related to the shooting but explain the connection. Reporter all right. Thats right, thomas. We had some developments overnight. So the u. S. Marshals arrested ricky hampton. He is a rapper known as finesse 2 times and he was the person performing here at the club when the mass shooting happened. He was arrested overnight in birmingham, alabama, along with another man, however, he was arrested on outstanding warrants out of another jurisdiction in arkansas. So having nothing to do with the mass shooting. At this point Little Rock Police tell us that there have been no arrests and there are no suspects in this mass shooting. Now this is where it all happened here at the lounge. This club, as you can see, is closed right now. Over here we have an eviction notice on the door, it might be hard to see at this point. City officials in little rock tell us theyre taking steps to try to shut down the club. It had already had its Liquor License revoked when it happened. If you look up to the second floor because the club is two floors, can you see some of the windows have been shot out. Theres glass all along the sidewalk down below. Of course, a very violent scene. Investigators were out here all day yesterday trying to piece together exactly what might have happened. Police believe there were multiple shooters involved but, again, no suspects and no arrests yet. As far as all the victims are concerned, two remain in Critical Condition but the rest, incredibly, have nonlife threatening conditions. They are expected to be okay. Thomas . Keep us posted as this story advances with the investigation. Appreciate it. So the white house says that President Trump will talk about whatever he feels like with Vladimir Putin. Yeah who knows how to run the playbook . He knows how to work people. I would appeal to the president s selfimage. I think thats how you can get to the president if youre Vladimir Putin. If im the president im going to be very aware of that. Again, theres nothing wrong with getting along. Vladimir putin, i dont like him. Hes a smart guy. He is going to advance the cause of russia until he hits a brick wall. There we have congressman Adam Kinzinger with words ahead of his meeting with russian president Vladimir Putin at the g20 summit. Joining me is 20 year cia director john seifert. John, good to have you with me. If you were advising President Trump and prepping him for this face to face at the g20, what bullet points would you advise him to go for and also to be cautious about . Well, i would probably advise him to be more in listening mode. Its not clear to me what is our policy towards russia. Vladimir putin clearly knows what he wants from the United States, he knows what he wants in syria, he knows what he wants in europe and he sees us as his number one enemy. For us its not clear what we want. Do we want to work with him on terrorism . If so, what do we want . What do we actually need from them . We in cia tried several times to work with the russians on terrorism and found it to be a fools errand. In fact, one of my friends in charge of that used the expression used the phrase working with the russians on Counter Terrorism is like buying a baboon as a pet to get their face ripped off. How many times are we going to do that. The white house is saying theres no specific agenda. Weve asked and tried to find out. What is the topic or topics that will be discussed and they responded, you know, whatever the president wants to talk about. Obviously there is some type of agenda, whether they want to share it with the media in advance or not, but what do you make of that . Whatever the president wants to talk about. Obviously there has to be a set of parameters prior to this meeting thats well established. There absolutely does. Anybody that was going into a business meeting or a negotiation, which mr. Trump prides himself on, would have things they want to get out of that. Its not clear what it is we want to get out of that. And the nervousness that a lot of us who have been dealing with the russians for a long time have here is that theres a concern that mr. Putins had very, very serious concerns and issues with the United States over a long period of time. He may find a sympathetic ear with mr. Trump on things mr. Trump is ignorant of or has no experience with and may find him agreeing to things that could actually hurt our longterm policy . How do you think russia is preparing, you know, for this meeting with President Trump and what they want to get out of it . Well, the one thing having lived over seas most of my career is people in the United States often dont realize what laser focus there is on the United States. The United States plays a huge role over seas. They have a huge apparatus thats looking at President Trump, at his psychology, at his Foreign Policy, what are the disconnects between him and his team, how can we play his psychology . How can we exploit those fissures . They will be preparing very, very aggressively for this and very, very seriously for us. If were going into it as a casual meeting, we better be very careful that we dont promise anything that we cant follow up with. Given the timing of this meeting, we have, john, the multiple federal investigations into the intels collective finding that russia interfered with our election, should they even be meeting at all . Well, frankly, i dont think so, no. I mean, if my dog bites me, i dont give him a treat as a reward. Russia attacked us. They see us as the main enemy. Theyve been fighting our interests over seas in the middle east and europe so its not clear to me why we would think its worth even meeting with them to talk about improving relations until they follow some of the very clear things that we put out in terms of what they need to do in terms of getting out of crimea, ukrai ukraine, other places. We know the different sanctions that were leveled after president obama, that period between president obama leaving office and before the inauguration. All the attention thats being given to this administration and its desire to ease those sanctions. I know the daily beast had an opportunity to speak with you about a number of other former with you and a number of other former intelligence officials about the Current White House approach to our relations and they described a consistent pattern. The u. S. Engages on moscow. The moment of disagreement over Something Like ukraine or syria intrudes, everything the americans have shared with the russians gets turned into a weapon against them. As you were saying, that description you were giving about the, you know, purchase of a baboon as a friendly pet only for it to rip off your face, i mean, yeah, isnt it the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result . Certainly it is. Obviously russia is an important player in the world, and we do need to have relations with them, however, we have to be very clear about what we want. What is our policy . What are we trying to achieve . Where are the red lines that we wont accept . As far as i know, this administration has not made those things clear. In fact, if you believe the reporting coming out of the white house, theyve talked about, you know, relieving sanctions and doing things to try to improve the relations with the russians. To me, it seems like the wrong time to do that. Again, youre rewarding back behavior. John, great to have you on. Thanks. Really serious insights into all of this and well know more once this meeting happens at the g20 because the world is waiting and watching to see how these two men interact. Thank you, sir. Thank you. Still ahead, former vermont governor howard dean and susan del percio reacting about the tweet and health care and the other major policy issues. Theres a lot of cable news shows that reach directly into hundreds of thousands of viewers and theyre really not always very fair to the president so im pretty proud of the president for developing a twitter and social media platform where he can talk directly to the american people. In fact, hes the most genuine president and the most nonpolitician president that weve seen in my lifetime. That could be a big understatement right there. With the Homeland Security adviser defending the president s latest tweet which is an edited video that appears to show him body tackling, body slamming the image of another network because they superimposed the cnn logo on vince mcmahon. This is an old video of the president showing up on wwe in a fake segment, a fake moment, wrestling and attacking vibs mcmahon, its ceo. Howard dean, former vermont governor, former dnc chair and msnbc contributocontributor. And republican strategist susan dellpiso. This is so serious and just so stupid, all at the same time. Like why are we even talking about this. Howard, your first reaction to this . Because this is important. This is the president. Thomas, the president has no credibility left except for his core base and, you know, Richard Nixon was at 29 when he resigned from office. So the thing that worried me more is while all this stuff is going on and were all focusing on this ridiculous in his of the president of the United States, Mitch Mcconnell is about to pass a bill that takes medicaid away from 23 Million People and kicks old people out of Nursing Homes because it limits their ability to stay in them, it limits medicare. Medicare spending drops by 384 billion compared to what it would have been under this bill, this Health Care Bill is a disaster, and i dont want to lose focus because trump is a clown. Thats maybe maybe hes doing it on purpose, who knows. The important part here is not as you know, theyre not really close to being able to effectively pull that off. Now we have the holiday period, where these elected leaders are going to go hole. Theyre going to hear the wrath and fury of millions of different americans who are upset by what they could eventually pull off in all this. But susan, from a republican standpoint, and as the governors pointing out, about what Mitch Mcconnells trying to craft together and thread this needle, do you think mcconnell is thankful President Trump is up to this nonsense . Absolutely not. That escalated when the president put out a tweet on friday morning, saying that he was potentially willing to just do a repeal and replace later health care plan. Mitch mcconnell, the last thing that they i men, let me rephrase one point though. I would say hed rather have donald trump doing this then actually being directly involved in the negotiations of the Health Care Bill. Because i think that would be even more dangerous for Mitch Mcconnell. The president s tweet this morning is really disturbing when you start also looking towards what is he doing this week. Hes got the g20 subtle. Hes meeting president russian president putin. These are very serious times i know, but, like, putin poses putin, like, pretends to fight with bears and stuff and is shirtless on a horse, so maybe and look at how the world looks at putin. Right. This really isnt the best comparison for the president. Really trump just trying to compete with his buddy puti to figure out who can be the tougher guy in advance of the g20 . I mean, in all seriousness, maybe this is the type of strong man image dr compared to what putin does to journalists in russia, thats a very dangerous concern, especially as were here during the Holiday Weekend of independence and we talk about the First Amendment and what donald trump thinks how it should be applied. Well, no, this is a vicious, you know, pretend fight between him and vince mcmahon, but its a vicious, you know, nongdown of donald trump being able to take down what hes imposed the brand of cnn, you know, trying to beat down reporters in some thuggish move and this is just been a series of different tweets weve gotten because the president last night, he defended his use of social media. Yall probably saw this one as well. Saying that my use of social media is not president ial, its modern day president ial. Make America Great again. Howard, what do you think about that . And, really, is this just the only thing he truly has control over is his own twitter feed . Control over this, ill tell you why im not more alarmed. Look, hes a bafoon. Hes certainly made a fool of himself. I honestly believe our institutions in this country are Strong Enough to resist this. Im not one of these people think yes, would trump be author taran ya by nature, yes. Our court system is Strong Enough. Our economy Strong Enough. I just dont i think hes an embarrassment but i dont think hes a threat to the well being of the United States except in Foreign Policy where this is the russian stuff is really serious, and, you know, one flick of the button in the wrong direction is going to cause a huge problem, but im not worried about the future of the country. Im just embarrassed for us all. No, i think keep twitter dangling in front of him so his thumbs are occupied and away from the important buttons. Lets not forget, its not that hes using twitter, which is the problem, of course thats an acceptable mode of communication these days. No ones trying to take that away. Its what hes saying on twitter. Notice what hes not doing. Hes not promoting his health care plan. Hes not promoting his policies. Hes just using it as a way to lash out. That to me is whats dangerous because thats the side of him that shows he has no selfcontrol. That he is not disciplined. If he was using it for policies, id have no problem with that. This is also about intimidation and a habit that we have seen about intimidation, whether he was, you know, in his business dealings or as a primary candidate with the monica of little marco, crooked hillary, the ability about spilling the beans on heidi cruz, the intimidation of trying to get comey not to tell the truth about what he knew about their interactions and the president s desire to get rid of the russia investigation. The type of things that he has repeatedly tweeted about joe and mika. Thomas, those are all things theres nothing thats happened since hes become president that didnt happen prior. Theres nothing thats shocking. Its just that hes now doing it as president of the United States. Which is just a fundamental shock to the system that the president of the United States would behave this way. Not necessarily surprising that donald trump would behave this way. I know, but this is the president susan, the thing about this, the fact there are troops that just left for afghanistan. There are people that were killed in that first ineffective raid that the president tried to pursue out of yemen. There is the strike that a lot of people laugh at about what happened in syria because they really didnt do anything to disable the airfields. And Bashar Al Assad remains in power. Well, i dont think anyone in the news media or democrats or republicans are pleased with the type of tweets that donald trump is putting out there. What i do think is interesting, and the governor touched on it right off the bat, was he went the governor decided to look at the policies that we should be concerned about. And thats where i think sometimes people are taking the bait. They are paying attention to that shiny object of a tweet and not the policies that are coming out of the white house. How can you follow the policies of a person that would do Something Like this . It just makes you think go ahead, governor. There is some danger, like this ridiculous voter fraud thing, composed of people who were wellknown vote suppressers and had no business being on the commission. I mean, thats the kind of stuff you have to worry about. Not whether trump is embarrassing the United States. Look, were stuck with trump. Hes an embarrassment. You cant control his impulses. He doesnt know anything about policy. Which is why mostly he doesnt tweeft about policy. But theres some fundamental stuff going on in this country we should Pay Attention to. One is health care. I agree hes not very good at intimidating the press so im not upset about that the way the media is, because i think the press will be far stronger than donald trump. Our free press has been existing for over 200 years and im sure weve been intimidated before, its not going to work. But i am worried about what some of the policy people on the far right who have Donald Trumps ear might be doing in washington. Yes, and i dont think certainly were not worried about the president trying to take attacks the media over reporting facts and getting things right and also consequences. You know, cnn had consequences for people that got out of the gate too early with a story. And thats important to know. Howard dean, thank you very much. Susan, thanks for being on. I apologize we had to show that video and make you guys comment on it. Have a great holiday, okay. All right.
