And you wanted to turn the channel and watch cartoons. I dont think thats what people want right now. We have a newcomer in the white house and look where it got us. One message the candidates are sending loud and clear as we head into New Hampshire. It is time to pile on pete. Good morning, sunday, february 9th. Im ali velshi. 48 hours from the start of the New Hampshire primary and the candidates are out making their final pitches following his disappointing performance in the disaster Iowa Caucuses and his dipping poll numbers joe biden is coming for Pete Buttigieg who is emerging as one of the frontrunners. One of the reason why that city in south bend did well is because i was able to direct about 65 million there, you know, from a recovery act. So, im not picking on pete, im just responding to pete. He is a good guy. Hes a great mayor. But guess what, he was a mayor. Hes a good guy. The idea of passing budget the town the size of man chester and managing 900 billion with less than 1 fraud or abuse, picking up his city and thousands of cities across the country is ridiculous. Who was criticized at this very way, Hillary Clinton said, barack obama, you dont have experience as president. Is this an act of desperation on the campaign . Oh, come on, man. This guy is not barack obama. And now biden has released this campaign ad. Barack obama called joe biden best Vice President america has ever had. But Pete Buttigieg doesnt think much of the Vice President s record. Lets compare. When president obama called on him, joe biden helped lead the passage of the Affordable Care act which gave health care to 20 million people. When part goers called on Pete Buttigieg, he gave citizens of south bend rivers. Pete buttigieg revitalized the sidewalks of Downtown South bend by laying down decorative bridge. That was just half of the ad, a snippet of the ad which goes on like that for over a minute and a half. Buttigieg isnt backing down and responded during an event in anover, New Hampshire. I know some folks are out there saying what business does a mayor of south bend have running for the presidency . You dont have an office in washington. Your community is little out of the way. What im saying is that thats exactly the point. Right now so many communities. So Many Americans. Small and medium size cities like mine and neighborhoods in some of the biggest cities in the country. That feel Like Washington cant even hear us. Buttigieg holds a significant lead over biden heading into New Hampshire, according to the latest boaston globe tracking poll. Many who came to see him speak said they were torn between him and the mayor. Road warrior Vaughn Hillyard covering the campaign and joins me from manchester, New Hampshire. You have been thinking about this biden turns his attacks to buttigieg in a very specific way. Talking about his lack of experience and how that is going to hurt him, if hes elected. The fact that this has taken ten months to essentially throw, i was driving with my producer colleague between two Campaign Stops yesterday when that video posted and my first question to him was, literally, is that from the Biden Campaign . Because that was a grenade that we quite frankly hadnt seen from the former Vice President who had suggested throughout the campaign that he didnt want this democratic primary to turn into an intra party firing squad. An effort from the Vice President to try to make as clear as possible that while he was helping negotiate the Affordable Care act was helping negotiate the iran nuclear deal, Pete Buttigieg was down in south bend, indiana. You know, to note what we saw in response to all of that was a great number of mayors, including the mayor here of New Hampshire, which is a city of 9,000, the second largest city in New Hampshire come out and speak out in support of Pete Buttigieg. As the mayor , im disappointed on this. Many mayors are working on projects like this one. That is the sentiment that the former Vice President is working up against. The interesting part, we were going through old tapes there. I want to take you back to 2007, in fact. This isnt the first time that the former Vice President has suggested that a fellow president ial candidate was perhaps not ready to head to the white house. Pull it up. A newsweek article back in august of 2007 with sam stein of newsweek and the question which he posed. In retrospect you werent ready for the presidency in 88 is obama ready now . He responded, i think he could be ready, i dont think he is. Have a clear sense of what you would do on the most Critical Issues facing us today. What to do about promoting americas place in the world. Not something that lends itself and lends itself to on the job training. You heard those exact sentiments from the former Vice President talking about Pete Buttigieg who has used that generational contrast to mount his very campaign. He did it in iowa, ali, and now doing it here in New Hampshire. And, of course, just after that interview that you talked about during an interview with abc during a debate in des moines, iowa. Biden said the same thing about obama back then. So, it is an interesting line of attack that ill talk to a few more mayors about. Vaughn, good to see you. Ill see you in New Hampshire and hopefully i can catch up with you. Recovering this Biden Buttigieg battle this morning by talking with mayors and the biden camp appears to criticize in its new ad. I want to bring in cincinnati, ohio, mayor john cranially. He is a supporter of Pete Buttigieg. Thank you for joining us this morning. What do you make of this battle and accusation and the idea that being a mayor isnt preparation to be president . Well, thanks for having me. In 2012, joe biden said and i quote, i never wanted to be a mayor because thats, quote, a real job in which you have to produce for your constituents. Thats an actual quote from joe biden in 2012. And he said thats why instead i spent 36 years in the u. S. Senate because essentially he was saying i didnt have a job where you want to produce. I dont agree that that is what senators are about. Thats what joe biden said. And Pete Buttigieg is from the midwest and in order to win, we have to win pennsylvania, michigan, wisconsin, ohio. Obama won all those states. He was from the midwest. Pete buttigieg is from the midwest and i think we need a midwesterner to win this campai campaign. Lets talk about the specific things that democratic supporters are looking for. Issues with job retraining. Low unemployment across much of this country and you are dealing with factory towns that have collapsed. Were all concerned about climate. Were concerned about women reproductive rights and justice and concerned about guns. On these issues, what kind of experiences do mayors bring to the federal scene, if they run for office . Well, mayors get things done. Mayors have to make tough decisions every day. Executive experience. Which is different than legislaledg legislative experience. President is more akin than being a legislator where youre mainly involved in having debates. Lets drill down on some of the issues that you raised about job losses and deindustrialization. Trump after obama won ohio, michigan, pennsylvania and wisconsin, trump won them. The same people voted for both candidates because they were afraid they were forgotten by washington, d. C. Those forgotten communities like in the midwest feel and recognize when washington, d. C. , people forget about them. Well, petes one of them. Petes one of the people that has been forgotten. His community has been forgotten and, yet, he improved a city that many people had forgotten about. That is exactly the kind of message to the people, the swing voters in the midwest that is necessary to beat donald trump, which i think every democrat is united in trying to do. So, heres the problem. Donald trump tapped into that rich vein of frustrated americans who are left behind while he talks about low interest and all that kind of stuff. There is a whole bunch of working americans and former working americans who say this pie got bigger and i didnt get a piece of it. Donald trump appealed to them, Bernie Sanders appealed to them and now mayor pete is being called billionaire pete or hes being talked about as wall street pete. Theres some sense that he is supported by the rich. And the rich dont understand the working poor. Yeah, i mean, thats just laughable on his face. Pete is the only person in this campaign who is not a millionaire or billionaire. Ive been to his home. He lives in a middle class neighborhood in a middle class house. And he walks the walk. And, you know, its kind of funny to think that people who have been part of a culture that brought the very problems that led to trump the forgetting about the midwest to criticize a man who helped pick up the pieces and bring back a city that had been struggling for decades. You know, this is gas lighting at its worst. I think the fact is as pete has said, we want washington to look more like our comeback cities like a cincinnati or a south bend than the other way around. And, you know, washingtons forgotten about the middle part of this country and petes one of those people that have been forgotten, but he didnt forget about his people. He turned his city around and hell help turn this country around. Mayor, thank you for getting up early to talk to me. Buttigieg campaign supporter. Joining me now from central falls, rhode island, he is a joe biden supporter. Mayor, good to see you. Thank you for joining us. Hey, good morning. Good morning. Thank you for having me. As a mayor, what do you make of the fact that the guy youre supporting is taking a shot at mayors not being qualified . So, look, i have been mayor now for eight years. I got elected at 27 years old. Being the first latino. My city was just coming into bankruptcy and i remember in 2012 just when i got elected as my city was going through this financial crisis that detroit was now filing for what was called the largest filing for any municipality in the country. I remember picking up the newspaper and seeing joe biden reaching out to the mayor mike dugan to help work with him on what was going on in detroit. So, i dont think this is an attack on mayors. I think its just were getting to a point where were looking at who has the experience to get into the white house from day one, clean up the mess thats happening in the white house and all these cabinets, as well, because theyre going to have to go in there day one and make assessments and make strategies to clean up and put this country back on the right path and i think joe biden is just saying, look, i was dealing with the iran nuclear deal, the climate crisis. All of these issues in my time as Vice President. And another fact, too, is people are saying that, you know, hes not ready to be president. But i think if obama picked him to be number two as the vp, i think obama trusted him enough that if something were to happen to the president that joe biden could have stepped in and replaced him and taken down the country from the moment that happened. So, i understand the conversation this morning. But i really believed that joe biden understands the role of mayors. They know that this is where the rubber meets the road. They know that mayors need to get things done. I agree. But i think that joe biden also understands that there are National Issues that were going to have issues with the gun violence that are happening in many of our communities. He understands that and hes going to look to the mayors to be partners, if he wins the white house. More importantly let me ask you, mayor. When joe biden got into this race, many people thought of him as the frontrunner largely because of his polling africanamericans and the idea of electability. Now we have iowa where it was a gut punch. Hes polling at the moment in what looks to be fourth place in New Hampshire, but those polls have a very big margin of error. Unclear how that is going to happen. Is joe bidens route to the top going to be by going after Pete Buttigieg or Something Else . Joe biden spent most of this campaign talking about donald trump and beating donald trump, which is where most democrats need to be. No, i think what the Vice President is going to do is focus more on his experience. His record. His exposure to national leaders. Exposure to foreign leaders. Exposure to the issues that are still present today. And we all know that there is a mess in the white house and the only person that i believe that can get there on day one and start assessing and addressing the issues that is going to happen from the day the next president gets elected, i think joe biden is the only one that can get things going right away. We cant waste any time because we know that addressing and assessing these issues take a long time and you can put the right people around him and i know hes going to look at mayors for guidance and support and help and create an agenda for our country. Central falls, rhode island, mayor james diossa, thank you for joining me, mayor. Appreciate it. Thank you. When we come back, have we seen the end of the president s payback or was friday just the beginning of trumps revenge. Victory is not winning for our party. Victory is winning for our country. We must reject the politics of revenge, resistance and retribution. The democrat should be held accountable for not only what they did to the president and his family and the administration, but the country. Maybe people should pay for that. Who should pay and how will they pay . Well see what happens. Okay. So, its been a year and four days since that clip you saw a moment ago. That was not this years state of the union, that was last years. Donald trump said we must reject the politics of revenge in his 2019 state of the unicon addres. Revenge is now front and center on trumps agenda. Two key witnesses who testified during the impeachment inquiry were fired. U. S. Ambassador to the eu Gordon Sondland and staffer Lieutenant Colonel vindman. Vindmans twin brother was also dismissed apparently just for being vindmans brother. Took aim at republicans saying the most powerful man in the country, in the world, continues his campaign of intimidation while too many entrusted remain silent. Its unlikely trump will stop there. As vanity fair reported last week the president has an enemys list that is growing by the day. Who is at the top of that list . John bolton. Sources say, quote, its payback time as the president determines how to have his National Former security adviser criminally investigated. So, as Many Americans including colonel vindmans lawyer wonder why republicans remain silent and protect their partys leader, the answer may be simple. Cowa cowa cowa cowardess. In private republicans admit they acquitted trump out of fear and agree, quote, the president is reckless and unfit. Another oped in Washington Post says republicans have sold their souls for so little making a pact with the devil. Also here msnbc political contributor joe watkins. A former aide to george h. W. Bush and the author of the book the new pc practical consideration. Jennifer, you have recently tweeted that those who defend the president are as depraved or nuts as he is and, hey, republican senators, proud of defending a lunatilunatic. Theyre not prepared to go out on a limb to say that he, virtually none of them said he did anything wrong. Such a standout the other day in mitt romneys speech that he actually straight up criticized the president for doing what he did. I think it may have been in reference to that really crazy pants press conference or whatever it was that he dwgave thursday with rage and revenge and on this stream of consciousness. And it is really the republicans in the senate who made up all kind of excuses to acquit him. And, in particular, people like susan collins, Lamar Alexander who said, i think he learned his lesson. This should be sobering to him. It sounded ridiculous at the time and now they look like fools, frankly. Dangerous fools because this is an unhinged president and, goodness knows what else he is going to do in terms of firing people, prosecuting people. Moving money around in the budget. Putting out executive orders. The skys the limit now. Joe, this vanity fair report is consistent with things you and i probably heard. It will remind people that president nixon had an enemys list and it did not hesitate to lash out against his enemies. What does retaliation continue to look like and what, more importantly, does it do for this white house, this administration and the country . Well, i think from the standpoint of the president , it keeps everybody in line. Revenge is a dish best served cold and i think colonel vindman, unfortunately, found that out this past week. I mean, different ways to fire people at the white house. I worked there for a number of years. My daughter worked in the white house with george w. Bush and you can find people lots of different ways and to have somebody escourted out of the white house that if you wish to speak up or speak out the way he did, youre likely to get the same fate. Its a way of letting people know and sending a message that you work at the pleasure of the president and by the way, you risk not only being fired but embarrassed. The article in New York Times talking about the fact that the president , there were some senators that were worried that firing sondland would look bad for the president and unnecessary. This is something to remember, Gordon Sondland is not a democrat and not a career diplomat. He was a president s fundraiser. He was the president s guy and sort of testified under dures because there were texts that came out that he had been talking about the deal with the ukrainians. Well, first of all, i guess that Million Dollar investment didnt work out so well, so maybe he gets a refund for only having the job such a short period of time. I think that story was significant for a bunch of reasons. First, they were able to disway him. Had to go back and kind of clean it up. This was not a guy particularly willing or forthright to turn the knife. And no one had given thought to protecting Lieutenant Colonel vindman who is a purple heart decorated war hero. So, i think the senators really need to look inside and see how their actions have affected the president and begin to think seriously what they are going to do as he continues this rampage up through november and beyond if he wins or loses. If he loses, can you imagine what happens between november and january. Joe, you often talk as a former white house aide and as a republican and a conservative about the sort of values that conservatives held or, maybe hold. I dont know. This isnt in line with them, right . Defending a lying president. The vindictiveness and the idea that he says hes very promilitary. Prepared to defend the navy s. E. A. L. Who was actually accused of murder and, yet, vindman with a purple heart who works on the National Security counsel who only spoke the truth was led out of the white house. These dont seem to be in keeping with conservative sentiments. Mitt romney got up and must have said something that warmed the remaining conservatives around that said, that is kind of what we thought we stood for. This is a very different white house from the george h. W. Bush white house that i worked and mitt romney now for better or for worse who stood up and said what he felt was true and was honest to the oath that he took as a United States senator is now at the top of that list, that enemys list. He knows that hes probably got a punch coming back at him since he punched the president. But that being said, it passed white house. Certainly the one in which i worked different opinions were valued. And people standing up for their beliefs, that was valued. Certainly valued in the george h. W. Bush white house. Thats not so much the case right now. I think for the most part, certainly in the senate and in the house, those members see that the president is sitting in over 90 Approval Rating among all republicans and they dont wish to be targeted by the president. They dont want to lose their seat and do anything to raise because the president learned that if you punch me, ill punch you back harder. Nobody wants to punch him. There are some people, jennifer reuben, who can punch back and maybe mitt romney is one of them. Maybe the president cant hurt mitt romney all that much and as you have said for the senators, theyd all get great private sector jobs afterwards. What about some of the cabinet secretaries who have come and gone. What aboutt the military leader and the ones in the room and preventing trump from his worst impulses. One person, the former Navy Secretary who donald trump fired crossed lines and decided that he would support Mike Bloomberg. Nobody else has been all that critical. John kelly basically said if i trust somebody between john bolton and the president , bolton is probably telling the truth. But nobody else has come out and given us a real warning. I worked with this guy every day. Hes not a stable genius. This is another area of cowardness and really irresponsibility. Where is mattis and jorex tillerson and h. R. Mcmaster. These people dont have a lot to lose. They have jobs on board and speaking fees and trump cant hurt them and yet they are so weary of being targeted and maye losing a booking at some conservative club. Maybe being ostracized and not having your access to the white house. They bend over backwards and they really become useless. They have an obligation to the country. They serve the country once and i dont think that obligation ends entirely when you leave office. They were privy to certain information that none of us have and they observe the president on a daily bases and they do have an obligation to go forward and explain what is going on. Not behind background quotes without attribution and not anonymous opeds for the New York Times but put their face on it and their name on it and let them know what is going on there. Jennifer, have you been ostracized by conservatives for these political positions you take on donald trump and where does that manifest . You know, the hate mail and the hate tweets pile up and, you know, they wrote a silly letter to Washington Post trying to get me fired and all sorts of things. But you really cannot Pay Attention to it. If you do, you get paralyzed and you start doing things that you think are not really what you think and what you feel. So, yes, everyone pays a price at some point for doing what they think is right. But if you dont, whats the point . Why do you write columns and why do you serve in the United States house or senate if you just go along with the mob and let the bad guys win every time . What about you, joe . You have been a republican for a very, very long time. As you point out, a very different thing to be a republican in the george h. W. Bush white house, but do you get pressure . Do you get push back from people . Sure i get push back and thats why i wrote the book, e the new pc. At the end of the day you have to do whats right. You have to live with yourself and more importantly answer to the almighty for the way you acted when you were here. And, so, i just think its important to do whats right and remember that Public Service is, again, Public Service. Not self service. Youre doing what is best for the country. Thats what i always kept in mind. I have gotten some push back from folks. I appreciate you taking time out of your sunday morning. Jennifer rubin and joe watkins. For starters, a primary, not a caucus. Being run by the state government, not political parties. Voters are going to use oldfashioned paper ballots, not new mobile apps or touchscreen machines like iowa and South Carolina. This means registered voters mark their candidates on a ballot and then insert them into scanners which have been in use and have been working for decades. The scanners are not connected to the internet and primary night will improve write in and absentee voters so that all participants will be counted and accounted for. New hampshire democrats are not waiting to get in line the state issued a guide on how to spot misleading content that is being spread on social media and many local chapters have a designated person monitoring local politics online. Joining me now, raymond buckley, chairman of the New HampshireDemocratic Party. Raymond, this is all on you, literally. Because last monday was supposed to be this motivational thing in which democrats across the country were supposed to come out with some sense of, you know, motivation, energy, things like that. And, i mean, all the air came out of the balloon and its now on you. Are you confident that you will have ballots counted and results released soon after voting ends . Absolutely. Without a question. Everyone is going to their regular voting locations that weve been going to for decades. Being greeted by the same local election official that has probably been there for decades. Being counted by the same people for decades. We had this primary for 100 years and never been a single incident throughout all these years in the primary and we dont expect that now. We are all working very well together. Im very interested in this misinformation and disinformation, which is the real issue of our times. If we can get past technology and the apps. The idea that people are going to be told to go to different places and twitter recently removed a fake account that was run by the New HampshireRepublican Party impersonating a state democrat posting attacks against him. Tell me about how youre dealing with disinformation and misinformation . Well, weve had meetings with the state Republican Party since then. And everyone understands the severity of this issue and the impacts are going to be helping us monitor any misinformation that is going on there. We have been working with the governors office, secretary of state and department of justs and the Republican State Party to make sure that this runs smoothly without incident. And i am, obviously, 100 confident that we will succeed. In fairness, the difference between iowa and New Hampshire is that in New Hampshire the state is running this election . Right. Its being conducted by the local Election Officials overseen by the secretary of state and the attorney generals office. But we are all fully involved. This is going to be done as best any election has been conducted in the United States of america. We didnt see turn out as highi in w in New Hampshire. It has been growing over the years. In 2016249. ,542 turn out. What are you thinking or projecting of voter turn out in 2020 . We looked at the results in iowa and also took a look at those who have applied for absentee ballots, which is our version of vote by mail, i guess. And it does look like it might not be a record breaker. But, you never know. The fact is that people that register to vote on election day. So, people are waking up at noon on tuesday and just said, hey, i think ill go vote and they can register and theyll be allowed to vote on tuesday. So, polls, other information, were not really sure. We do know that the campaigns have got a great ground operation going on here and if anyone is going to pull it off, its the teams that are out there pulling the voters out. Chairman buckley, there have been people who have been calling for a long time for iowa, New Hampshire to not be at the front of this line given that they lack representation of the Democratic Party and after iowa, more voices about that. What do you say about whether New Hampshire should be the first primary in the state, in the country . Well, this is the fourth cycle where weve included South Carolina and nevada into the mix. Specifically to include voices of color and diversity. So, we think that its very important that all voices are heard. All regions of the country are heard. So, we are, we stand with our sister states and making sure that that occurs. As to the questions about New Hampshire primary, my entire life we have been hearing that, but we really do it very well. Youre going to see the highest turnout percentage wise of any state in this entire nominating process of either party. Thats what we do well here and i think that youre going to see on tuesday night when the numbers come in and theres not a single incident, well make all of america proud. Raymond buckley, thank you for joining me, sir. I hope it all works well for you. Ill be there tonight in the great state of New Hampshire. Were looking forward to a successful primary on tuesday. No. Still half bike half man, just the opposite. Oh, so the legs on the bottom and motorcycle on the top . Yeah. Yeah, i could see that. For those who were born to ride, theres progressive. Ive been listening carefully to Donald Trumps constant and failed economic palleraolicies of the previous administration. His constant crowing of the low Unemployment Rate and the 225,000 net new jobs created in january that despite are, in fact, a continuation of obama policies. We also hear a lot about this. A dow within reach of 30,000, although thats less about Company Performance or Economic Growth and more about the pressure that trump put on his handpicked fed chair to lower Interest Rates making investments in the stock market more attractive and increasing share prices. And youll hear about his tax cuts which he promised would have a trickle down effect on the neediest of americans, even though trickle down economics has been debunked. Here is one place, though, that donald trump has done better than obama. In increasing the national debt. When was the last time you heard trump talk about the nearly 1 trillion National Deficit . This isnt the debt, by the way, just the current shortfall between what the government spends and what it takes in. This is because the government since cutting taxes is taking in fewer tax dollars. As for the debt itself, that is the net accumulation of all the annual deficits, it is 23 trillion. Thats a number you surely wont hear from donald trump. A number nobody actually wants to talk about. Three years into the Trump Presidency and republicans to the president s whims forsaking their principals as deficit hawks and the party of Debt Reduction and the party that shut down the government over the issue has now gone silent. But increasing the deficit and the debt means spending cuts have to come eventually. And who does that hurt . The poor. There are reasons to go into debt, by the way, to get out of a recession, to take advantage of low Interest Rates and build infrastructure and provide for social programs. But over the last 20 years the times we increased the debt and the deficit the most has been when republicans have been in power to run wars and to give tax cuts to corp rapgz orationse wealthy. In fairness, often ignored the swelling debt but as entitlement programs and things like snap get cut, it is time to sound the alarm on our debt crisis to make sure the least among us are not subsidizing tax cuts for those who control the levers of power and wealth in america. All right. Joining me now is austin chairman of the economic advisors during the Obama Administration and also supporting Pete Buttigieg for president. Before we talk about pete, lets talk about debt deficits, austin. Tell me how were supposed to think about this. The president talks about the economy. Some of it is good. He exaggerates the parts that are good and his influence over it. A lot of americans think the economy is pretty good. How do we think about this debt . How do we think about these deficits . What should we be thinking . I think that part of your opening there is exactly how we should be thinking about it, which is if you have recessions, if you have wars, then the deficit goes up. It always has and it always will. What is happening now that is fundamentally different than anything that has happened in the recent past is that the deficit is exploding while the economy is growing. And thats disturbing on a couple of counts. The most important of which being what about when we have a recession, then what is going to happen . Normally the recession adds a whole bunch of deficit to whatever the total is when you start. That was quite different from under president obama where after the recession he cut the deficit in half. And the thing im afraid of is not that its going to lead to a big increase in the interest rate, but as you insinuated, you have to pay back the money. So, the money that we need to invest in infrastructure, the money we need to invest in Retirement Security and health care is not going to be there. Mayor pete put out maybe you call it an ad and Little Information snippet that showed that what the republicans were doing is totally predictable. They cut taxes by trillions of dollars and then President Trumps own budget said we have to cut medicare, Social Security and medicaid because we dont have the money. Look at the deficits. Now, we need to cut the safety programs. Austan, you brought up mayor pete. You have been advising his president ial campaign. Last nights New Hampshire democratic dinner supporters of Bernie Sanders interrupted a speech he was making. Lets just listen to this for a second. Our one chance to defeat donald trump. And there is an american majority that is unified not just in who we are against, but in what we are for. Because we are for higher wages and the empowerment of workers. So, little hard to hear. But they were saying wall street pete. I think the Bernie Sanders folks have taken out a website, a domain called petes billionaires. Tell me about this and tell me about how pete is going to sort of make sure that people dont understand that thats not true, if it isnt true. Yeah, look, the first thing is, if you start feeling the heat from your opponent, of course youre going to start attacking them. I think that explains the behavior of the bernie people. They did that in 2016 and theyve done that to other candidates whenever they felt that they were gaining on Bernie Sanders and his New Hampshire, you know, his neighboring state. I think if you look at mayor petes record, just look at his tax proposals. They will raise taxes on billionaires and corporations quite substantially. And i think the most important thing here is to go at President Trump and to be able to replace him and i think mayor pete, the reason i endorsed him, he has the best plan to do that. So, you know, the week before the New Hampshire primary, you know its going to get a little rough and tumble and that what struck me at that. When they were chanting that on the ground it actually sounded like they were just yelling pete, pete, pete, pete, pete, pete. I was confused at first. Why are the bernie people yelling pete, pete, pete. Do you think there is anything that needs to be done in that campaign to appeal to the people who Bernie Sanders is appealing to . By the way, not just dissimilar in for of their frustrations to the people donald trump appealed to. The former manufacturing worker and the person who sees this pie getting bigger and trump talking about his bigger stock market and all that kind of stuff and people saying my piece of the pie isnt getting bigger even though the pie is getting bigger. For sure they should appeal to those people and to all people. Now, i think that we will be able to do that. I think this time, you know, people might get mad at each other as the primary goes along. But i think everybody in their right mind, in the democratic primary, as well as independents and in New Hampshire the independents can vote in either primary. I think that beating donald trump is the overwhelming message. Now, mayor petes coming from a rust belt Industrial City that when he took over Newsweek Magazine put it on the list of americas ten dying cities. Turn around the industrial economy and create jobs, i think, is one that is going to be a key factor for him. Austan, good to see you, thank you for joining me. Chair of the economic advisors under president obama and surrogate for the Pete Buttigieg campaign. Breaking news out of new york city. Not one, but two Police Officers attacked at a local precinct. Investigative reporter with our new york station wnbc joins me on the phone. Jonathan, i asked to call you because some reports that police think this may be the same person, is it three or four Police Officers who have now been shot . Its a total of two officers shot is the information i have. One from last nights ambush and one this morning. The one this morning is a Police Lieutenant shot in the arm. The officer last night was shot in the chin. Both officers expected to survive. So, we have account of two officers shot. Some of the confusion on the numbers is because the officer in the van last night was with a partner, but that partner was uninjured. And also the gunman who walked into the precinct this morning. He opened fire shooting the lieutenant at the desk, hitting him in the arm. He fired several other shots. He then put the gun down. Lied down on the floor and surrendered and he is now in custody. Police believe he is the same shooter who shot at the officers in the van last night. So, in a matter of 12 hours, we have at least two Police Officers shot in the city of new york by the same gunman. Whos the suspect . We do not have his identity yet. We do not know if hes emotionally disturbed, if he has some sort of vendetta against Police Officers. We expect to learn that information shortly. But, clearly, in the bronx tonight in the 41 precinct great concern for the Police Officers. Two who were shot. One in the face, one in the arm. Both expected to survive and both are expected to be okay. Jonathan, thank you for joining us. We appreciate it. Jonathan dienst Investigative Reporter wit s
