Quote, that they had president president over a barrel. Global affairs analyst, john mclaughlin. Barbara, we start with you, President Trump tried to discredit the d. O. J. When we heard donald trump about this fake dossier. Does this reporting give us information as to yet president had a bulls eye on orr . He lead organized crime efforts, Drug Task Force investigations, he was a career figure at the Justice Department. It bewildered people see him focus og bruce orr, works hard, does his job. There have been previous contaktds with steele this adds another element. I dont know what extent President Trump previously knew about this. Why he may have an idea to discredit him and get him out of the justice defendant department, if he knew what was going on with the russian o oligarchs. Late in the 2016 campaign, excuse me. Well, at that point, the fbi had the investigation begun. The investigation had began. Not with the steele dossier, as the president alleged, but i believe in may of that year, when the u. S. Government learned from an awe straltian diplomat, that he had contacts with george popdopulous that he could access dirt on clinton for the trump campaign. Complicated, at that point, i think that the fbi sensors were out for anyone that could shed light on what was going on. And knowing of manaforts rule in the ucrepe, and his connections, it is the logical thing for the fbi too have done this. To show up in his home. And yes, what my colleague would call a cold pitch. Here is what we would like you to do and here is why. It didnt in this case. Everything fizzled after that barbara, you have roger stone, long time trump associate, asking for a Legal Defense fund, expects to be charged with a crime now. He said that Michael Cohen has flipped. Well, i think that there are parallel investigations going on. Michael cohen, they are looking at financial improprietiempropr. And russian hacking. Public reports with lucifer 2. 0. And contacts with wiki leaks, i think that is the part they are looking at. Many of roger stones associates said they have been to the grand jury. He may know something that we dont. Perhaps there has been additional witnesses, it wouldnt surprise me. He is a figure i would want to know about. He has been a close associate of donald trump for many years. He may be the first to disseminate emails. Looking at september 1st. Rudy july, touting this day as a highlight to submit their report. Lets take a listen. Justice department has a rule, stay out of politically charged investigations, within 60 days of the election. I hope he respects that. Or what . Or nothing. It affects how people look at the investigation. Is it political or a real Law Enforcement investigation . When it comes to that, there is no rule on the books. Do you know the Trump Administration is dealing with that report. And if it comes out not in his favor. Everything that we here is an attempt to raise questions about damaging the krbltd of mueller and his team. Which i find, personally offensive, as someone who worked with bob mueller for four, five years. What giuliani said, it is empty. Bob mueller, i believe, will he will want it air tight. Who knowing when he will be done. Personally, i bought that he would release it in the runup to the collection. He will not release it until he knows he is on solid ground. Look at the indictment, he placed already. When you read them, they are thorough of unassailable. Hounch it comes out. When it comes to white house counsel. Diminishing, one by one. We had the how do you think it will affect it. When it comes to the fall, when he is out of the white house . The White House Council does not represent donald trump, the represents the auches of the presidency. It may be at odds with the personal of donald trump that is why he has personal lawyers. He has cooperated, provided information. You wonder, who may be the success ok, someone less coordinative . The when you have george lying to the feds. The master they are referring to is the president . Popodopolous, this stretching back to a year, the first domino to fall. In many respects, is emblem attic of the investigation. In his nieasthe was in over his head. In the case that he present swarming around like beeos honey. We dont what thatd jump campaign colluded. And popdoplot, i think that is the real sill canc. Thank you for your time with me. President trump takes aim at nafta, could he lead canada off the deal with mexico . I can see it in my, see it in my reflection. Ohhh can i get a connection . Tryna find the old me you wouldnt accept an incomplete job from any one else. Why accept it from your allergy pills . In two great flavors. President trump tweeting, there is no political necessity to keep canada in the new nafta deal. Congress should not interfere with the negotiations or i will simply remove nafta entirely. Now, jonathan allan, and the thanks for being with me. Jonathan, how about those comments that were published in the toronto star . Look, it it was an off the record conversation, between the president and bloomberg news, the president blames bloomberg for his comments leaking out. And says, explicitly that he is happy the comments are out. You dont have to be a Rocket Scientist to come up with the answer that white house leaked it. We are trying to figure out the clarification from the white house. He is not making compromises with canada, and off the he couldnt say it publicly, it will be so insulting, they wont be able to make a deal. The white house, still in a gray area. Every indication is that white house put this out. It gives the president an avenue to blame the media. Something he is fopd of doing. Take a swing at bloomberg, and gets out the things he couldnt say before. This is perfect for him. Then, in addition to that is correct the tweets this morning. So, you got that. Timing of it when he is threatening congress, saying he will pull out of it all together, if congress interferes this is the timing, where the congressional leaders, john mccain, either on the way to the funeral or Memorial Service or there. There is a dusty old document call the constitution that said congress has the right to advise and consent on treaty, and requires a twothirds approval for congress. Congress has decided to give authority to the white house. They have to sign off on new trade deals, they would have to sign off on the new u. S. mexico deal. 60 votes because of the filli buster. A prescribed. The idea that congress would be interfering in a trade deal, has it backwards, the way our Founding Fathers had conceived this. Knowing that yes, when it comes to this, and canada being left, without a seat, musical chairs, the neighbors are saying this is what i am going to do this is the extent. I will terminate it. This is what trump does. He says something outrageous, and people react to it. He then negotiates. People are sort of operating around it. He creates the perimeters. He has to get the deal signed before the new president comes in. If you dont do it on my term, i will do what i want. The bigger scope, how is the president planning to appreciate without the terms he wants . The outlines of what there aing do is an update to nast awith the realities, that werent in place in 1994. There are nuances. There is a soft spot for something to get done here. He is alinating canada with his rhetoric. He seems to be bullying them. He does it with a lot of people. It makes it harder to negotiate f he makes a side deal with mexico to renegotiate. Testimony violates the existing nafta, for u. S. Farmers, and merchandisers. Where at this point can the administration reach out and say, okay n is what we want. These are the terms. Where is the give . Your prior guest said that States Affected most michigan, ohio, states important to the president politically. He is aware of this. People there want those protections, he is having a tariff fight over steele. As jonathan was getting to, some of the jobs we are losing in the United States is update s s to tech, to without the broader changes in the economy. Given the deadlines that we are seeing involved here. In the marathon talk that is we saw when it comes to that at this point. I think that there is still a question mark as canada take. If president s idea is to screw the canadians in an effort to do better for the americans, why would canada sign off on that . Thanks for being with us. Honoring john mccain. America, america, gathering at the National Cathederal to remember senator john mccain. President trump was not invited. We gather the real thing, not cheap rhetoric for men who will never come near the service. She meets her responsibilities, she is strong. America does not boost, she has no need to. The america of john mccain has no need to be made great again, because america was always great. Senator mccain asked george w. By bigots and out of respect to mccain, he will wait until the burial to announce the senators temporary replacement. The top contenders include his widow, cindy mccain. Kirk adams. Back with us, nbc news Digital National political reporter. I want to bring up the new poll that shows 61 of voters would want the governor to appoint someone in mccains mold to fulfill a seat. And 37 want someone more like President Trump. It is a difficult balancing act. There is some measurement in arizona that trump is still more popular. If he strays far from a candidate that trump might approve, he may be the subject of trumps outrage. He has a balancing act. Does he take a true mccain type. Who may be off the who may trigger trump to open up against him. That is the balancing act. I think in particular, if he appointed kindy mccain, it may not please President Trump. His next decision, does he take a place holder that will not run for the seat for the remainder of his term or someone that may want to see the ballot in 2020. Reporting that president and the governor spoke on the phone about the vacancy, how much influence do you think that the president will have, given that he is up for reelection. It is easy to look at the 37 is so, i think that President Trump, if he chooses to have influence, will be a factor that the governor will weigh. He will pick someone that he thinks will run and defend the seat. That is interestingly typical in terms of senate appointments, those will be big shoes to fill. Talking about what they have to factor in in making the decision. His own fete, with the relection coming up. In arizona, you have to balance, what you do on leashes, president s trumps wrath against you. Even though he not not invited i dont know if he is at trump national, feeling bad about this or if he thinks it helps him. That is an equation that only an Arizona Republican like the governor can figure out here. You know, there may be a safer bet, his own chief of state. Who doesnt have a record. The safest thing is to apply a place holder. Fundamental, arizona is a red state. Easier to have an open seat. You have the death of john mccain. Also, the senate g. O. P. Primary. Here are the results of that marthy talk about the political climate, knowing how tough of a race it can be. Maybe, maybe turning it blue for the first time in decades. It is an interesting dynamic in arizona right now it trump beat clinton by three points in arizona in 2016 a lot closer than most expected. Trump had a double digit win in ohio, few were paying attention by the time arizona came in. They nominated the person, most moderate run in the field, it will be a tough fight. Since you were inside the National Cathederal. A lot of power moments there. And time and time again, hearing from the speakers who seem to draw that contrast between john mccain and President Trump. Many without mentioning President Trump at all. What of the most powerful, when it came to that . The most powerful moment when she had had the line that drew applause. Maybe i can pull it up. She said, what everybody was thinking, as was oa bampt a. I dont have a second at tv. The line she said about america, she said, i am paraphrasing, you dont have to make america great. America is great. Adding to that is the look on her face. Right after completing that sentence, spoke volumes as well. Dont you think this is the most specific, jab that megan mccain made. At funerals, usually people dont applause. In this cathederal, to sit there and here, the moment is that sticks with me today from the funeral. Still to come. Days ago, against voters head to the polls. In a community of democrats, as an African American woman plans to join the women taking them to washington. One of the last most talked about congressional primaries days away, pits an incumbent against an African American woman. She won the endorsement of the boston globe. Chris caught up with both of them on the campaign trail. Wild turkeys are last in bostons neighborhood. Presley doesnt let them stop her from the job at hand. I am talking to voters too. Her challenge to a 20year incumbent and fellow democrat, for the seat held by john f. Kennedy. For those who think we are doing something disruptive, good. We need to be. Hear modern message, delivered the Old Fashioned way. Meeting voters on the way to work. Change trumps antics. I will definitely take on trump. And where they live . My fellow concordian. A self proclaimed hugger in an interparty brawl. She is compared to cortes, she is not running to the left of her ox ponent. I have been on the forefront opposing the trump agenda. There is no reason for her to be running against me. I didnt know what i have been more disruptive than what i was doing. Anyone who running for office will tell people they are the best. My job is to tell people what i do. It has a potential to be a shocker. A once predominantly white district, now, majority minority, younger and economically diverse. Presenting presley to argue for change. What is this race about . Well, these times require us to be disruptive and bold. I wont wait my turn. My mother didnt raise me to ask permission to lead. The boringly predicted mass 7, is one of the races to watch this year. Democrats are having to answer these kinds of questions. Is tht moment, a generational moment. Where the party needs to become more representative. We have to look at how much does loyalty matter. One of the bluest doesnts in the country. The time has come for someone that is fresher, who will bring a new perspective. I think diana is that person. Why try to get rid of a guy with all of his experience and seniority that he will v when the democrats take over in november . Since capno has run unopposed for generations, meaning a dull mid term is now looking predictable in boston. As mid terms edge closer. The president has fourlt days on the road to rally behind sgop candidates and raise money for the party. The president zeros in on a private state dinner, warning them to expect violence if democrats take over the houses. Audio of the event. They will end everything immediately. When you look at the groups, these are violent people. Always great to have you here with me today. Susan, violent . What are we talking about here . It sounds like donald trump is doing what he did on the campaign trail. Which was to insight violence. He did it in the campaign rallies, saying he would pay legal bill to supporters who punched protesters. This is just so, i hate to use the word deplorable, after the twaent 16 election. This man is the president of the United States. He is supposed to be there to bring the country together. Not promote violence. I am angry about it. I am not violent about it. Speaking to the base. Use the word violence, they will eat it up . The fear is that he is not having a broadcast econom ic allowing supporters to do that. It comes at a time when we have seen two amazing going home sfrtss, who in their own way may. We have to look at it in the light, we had a man arrested who made dozens of Death Threats to the boston globe. Found to have 20 gups in his possession. Citing donald j. Trump, the reason he found people to be the enemy of the public. The president s that characterizes republicans to defend 62 , and democrats, four of the seats. They need to change the wave. Is there anything you see . I am confident. Youre i am confident right now. What we saw in florida. 1. 4 million voted in that primary. It means to me, our electoral is deep and energized. It is reflecting in the diversity of the more diversity means we are bringing out vote may, what level of jure alarmbles are ringing. There is lsz than 30 of the districts, won or lost within two Hillary Clinton and donald trump. That is when you have the president , he turns people ace him than for him. The Washington State came out with this high, 70. There is Something Interesting about it is hard to see how it translates into the it says, that is who it was called. Good news for the people, only kwa kwaen people think there is more congressional greatit, when it comes to the race here. 2016. You think how it turned around. The president said he will do a rally for ted cruz, biggest stadium. His opponent is a disaster for tex. I got my back, and cruz. Now i got you. I think we are getting closer. I like what orourke has been doing, there is Fertile Ground there. Other races, with a punk rocker images, and debates over debates, all of that good stuff. Air guitar. Susan, michael. Great to have you as always. President trump lashes out at google, why he is accusing the tech giant of bias against him. President trump is picking a fight with a new target, accusing tech giant google of bias. He claims search results for trump news are rigged against him and conservatives, because almost all stories and news is bad. He later explained his attack to include facebook and twitter as well. I think that google and facebook and twitter, i think they treat conservatives and republicans very unfairly. I think its a very serious problem, because theyre really trying to silence a very large part of this country, and those people dont want to be silenced. Its not right, its not fair, it may not be legal, but well see. We just want fairness. Do you want to regulate them more . Were just going to see. Were just going to see. You know what we want, not regulation, we want fairness. Google responded saying when users time queries into the search bar, our goal is to make sure they receive the most relevant answers in a matter of seconds. We dont bias our results toward any political ideology. For more im joined by the tech and policy reporter for the washington post. Hi, tony. As we get started in this, the president moved away from calling for regulation on google. He said he wants fairness. So why now, why at this point does google have a bullseye on them. President trump has lots of things to say not just about google but facebook and twitter with these allegations that theyre biased against conservatives, but hes not alone. There are lots of republicans, even those on capitol hill, who have used this as a rallying cry. Theyre even going to hold a hearing on this next week where twitter Ceo Jack Dorsey will testify in the house energy and commerce committee. But its important to point out that theres a huge political element to this as well. Hours after the president sent that tweet saying that Google Search results were rigged against him, that the news results were consistently negative, his campaign then used that in a pitch to voters to donate. So its not just that republicans are making noise about this from a policy perspective, it also seems to be the case, experts say, that theyre using it as a political rallying cry as well. Weve heard the questions there about regulation and what the president is wanting when it comes to that fairness. Lawmakers have been calling on more regulations. Youve got Facebooks Cambridge analytica scandal. Is there any chance of legislation . And what would that look like . I have to tell you republicans and democrats alike really bristled when they heard President Trumps comments when it came to regulating Search Engines and the way that they service news. As you said, theres a lot of interest in looking at things like privacy and the ways that Companies Collect data and holding their feet to the fire for allegations that foreign agents are spreading misinformation on their platform around the election. But when youre talking about regulating search results, you collide with the First Amendment consideration. And there are even republicans who have said that they were really uncomfortable with the idea of government stepping in. I talked with senator kennedy, for instance, who said he doesnt want government to play that role. Senator richard burr, another republican, said the same thing to me. He was like show me a proposal that doesnt get in touch with the First Amendment and create this conflict and maybe he would consider it. Democrats said this was authoritarian. Senator brian schatz said this was completely unworkable for Many Democrats and the party, so any attempt to regulate search results would be met with swift opposition on capitol hill. When it comes to regulation overall when it comes to these platforms and social media, so many messages are sent out even with the president as well, what would the middle point be, to be able to kind of reconcile it all . I think it has to do with education actually. Thats not even an issue of regulation. Putting aside the politics of whats happening here and trumps attacks and his campaigns use of those attacks, i think this speaks to the fact that americans have lots of questions about how these platforms work. I think a lot of lawmakers also have those questions. Theyre not entirely sure why you see the search results that you see or why facebook posts and twitter posts surface in the way that they do and how these Companies Choose to take down some content and leave other content up. I think thats why youre seeing a lot of these demands for hearings and these executives being forced to come testify. And thats going to happen actually on wednesday with media representatives of tech giants coming there. What do you expect to hear come out of that . Its going to be a tough day for tech companies. There are two hearings. The first is on the Senate Intelligence committee which has been exploring russian efforts to sow disinformation and sow political unrest. They have been invited to testify and only facebook and twitter have said yes. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are furious with google. They say that the company should have sent someone to that hearing. Later in the day the house will have jack dorsey, the ceo of twitter, and theyll probe conservative bias. Thats going to be a testy hearing as well because democrats dont think theres miss at all. They dont think there should be a hearing in the first place. Thank you. Thanks.
