Would it not have been preferable and desirable for us to have negotiated a post ti ed with turkey and our kurdish allies such that we would not welcome back. Two of Rudy Giulianis have the casualties that resulted with turkey coming in in a heavy way and bombing our associates lev parnans are set allies which has given us a terrible black eye around the world and has led to unnecessary to be in federal court on casualties . Why could this have not been Illegal Campaign contributions negotiated . To advance their business well, again, we negotiated interests. The fourcount indictment filed in the Southern District of new york almost two weeks ago extensively with the tushlg tu including charges of conspiracy, making false statements to the including the security zone federal Election Commission and mechanism that we had in august falsification of records. With our security forces. Theyre both expected to plead we negotiated until the very not guilty here. Two of Rudy Giulianis associates about to face federal message to erdogan pointing out charges today. What happens next . Arraignment is a pretty that this would influence the russians coming into that area. Straightforward hearing. It wont last very long. Essentially the zwruch is going and which is exactly what to ask them, do you have a copy happened. And president erdogan looking at of the indictment, did you have a chance to read it and how are the russian turkish agreement you going to plead . And our agreement last week. Theyll probably plead not guilty, almost every time at an the ypg has pulled back so one arraignment. Thats what happens. Turkish objective was not then theyll set bail. Achieved. And weve gotten a glimpse of and turkey has not gained much what to expect because the territory if that was the codefendants were just arraigned, and they were allowed objective. We told them if they did that they would run into a great deal out but with very strict travel of trouble with us, thus, the restrictions. So, we would expect the same sanctions and other steps we thing from these defendants. Took against them ten days ago so then the upsets the trial now. I would only note, dates, puts together a schedule, mr. Chairman, that our president told president erdogan we were does some house keeping, and the pulling out our troops. We did so and they attacked defendants are sent on their way. The question that a lot of within a matter of hours. And you say those are unrelated . People are trying to ask is the connection between what is it would seem to be there is a happening with this arraignment relationship . Defense secretary mark esper and the implications it could have on the impeachment inquiry. Said last week that turkey try to connect the dots for us appears to be committing war between why today is significant and the larger inquiry taking crimes. Do you disagree with that . We would say that the turkish place with the president . This is very significant supported Syrian Opposition because these defendants are forces under turkish command and charged with obviously intentionally trying to get foreign money into a campaign. Did in one instance carried out now, to the extent Rudy Giuliani a war crime and we have reached was directly associated with out to turkey. Him, i have to caution that as a should the fch have that lawyer, its not per se a crime to be aware of criminal activity. However, if you cross that line as a lawyer and you are not commitment. We did not succeed in that, acting as a lawyer, but instead, obviously. What we did succeed in doing is as a participant, then you very quickly bringing it to a become a coconspirator or halt by the negotiations and the associate. So the extent he participated the senators that dozens have in any degree with their been freed. Criminal activity, that could defense secretary mark esper on potentially make Rudy Giuliani the other hand yesterday put that number of isis escapees at himself criminally liable. Prisons they have controlled. Ive been saying this for so right now, we are not seen weeks. The biggest problem for trump is this big prison break that we what the heck is rudy expected. On the heels of an expired giuliani hes wearing too many different hats. Deal for the u. S. And ankara to hes the president s personal lawyer, but hes also pause its advance, the representing in some capacity, these two codefendants who are Washington Post wrote that russia and turkey agreed to push charged with not some unrelated financial crime, rather, this is fighters from a wide swath just essentially an election south of turkeys border corruptiontype crime. According to the post, the so, to the extent hes valved agreement will leave turkey and wi involved with them, is he a russia ahead of allies forced, lawyer and also happens to and the post points owl it represent the president . That may be okay. But thats going to be the bolstered russias preferred end challenge. Ive been saying it for weeks, game in syria by allows baushd rudys biggest threat and the administrations biggest thread is Rudy Giuliani and the fact that hes taking on too many different sometimes conflicting roles. With a look at axios and political reporter for axios, Alexia Mccann non. What is the one big thing for today . Good morning to you guys, and thanks for having me. We hear a lot about how President Trump is spending gobs of money on digital ads at a National Scale. When you drill down and look at the local state by state breakdown theres a totally different story being told. Theres a major outside Democratic Group that is outspending President Trump on digital ads on facebook in the key battleground states of florida, michigan, wisconsin, and pennsylvania, and that matters because while president ial candidates across the board have so far spend 61 million on digital ads thats at a National Scale and the state by state breakdown we have on a chart at axios matters. Thats where this election will be decided in key battleground states. Talk to us about how the president s aggressive spending push online is reshaping the ground game for democrats in some of these battleground states . I think aggressive is a really good use of a word for this because President Trump is both being aggressive and creative in the way that he is making this online ad push across facebook, google and youtube. Hes really using some of these more incendiary topics, most recently on impeachment as we all know on facebook to try to raise money, but that doesnt really change things for the ground game for democrats on the ground. It might change things for how theyre advertising. So far were seeing democrats like the priorities usa group focus on Kitchen Table issues like the economy or health care but weve also seen folks like Elizabeth Warren come out with an ad criticizing Mark Zuckerberg on facebook. Let me get your thoughts quickly on the 2020 field on the democratic side since the debates in ohio last week. Which candidate has been able to garner enough attention to stand out of the crowd, do you think . You know, i was in westerville, ohio, for the debates and when youre on the ground for these things, it feels like its the center of the universe and like everyone is paying attention and will be for days to come, but we at axios got exclusive data that showed that actually a lot of the debate topics didnt breakthrough the online noise. The stories with the most engagement online last week according to this data had to do with Tulsi Gabbard and her feud with hillary clinton, aoc endorsing Bernie Sanders and warren taking on the billiona e billionair billionaires. While Tulsi Gabbard and Elizabeth Warren are running for president , that engagement and online attention wasnt necessarily tied to the debates. I want to touch on the impeachment inquiry, house intel chair adam schiff taking on a very prominent role amidst the trump impeachment inquiry. Why is that so significant . If we think back to president bill clintons impeachment trial, ken starr, the independent special counsel and investigator was sort of the face of that inquiry and trial. Democrats havent ruled out the fact of having an outside special counsel come to oversee this process but they havent had one yet and that has made chairman adam schiff the sort of de facto face of President Trumps impeachment trial. He sort of has this dual hat role that hes assuming where hes obviously a Key Committee chairman, but hes also taking the role and assuming the role of the chief investigator, and i think that democrats are really drawn to his intelligence background, and thats sort of why theyre using him to sort of be that de facto oversight leader for this investigation. All right, alexia mccammond live in d. C. Were going to be reading axios a. M. In just a bit. That does it for us on this wednesday morning, im Yasmin Vossoughian alongside ayman mohyeldin. Morning joe starts right now. I read Mitch Mcconnells statement yesterday, and he read my phone call. As you know he put out a statement that said that was the most innocent phone call hes read, and i spoke to him about it, too. He read my phone call with the president of ukraine, Mitch Mcconnell. He said that was the most innocent phone call that ive read. I mean, give me a break. The president has said that you told him that his phone call with the ukrainian president was perfect and innocent. Do you believe that the president weve not had any conversations on that subject. So he was lying about that . Youll have to ask him. I dont recall any conversations with the president about that phone call. Three weeks ago President Trump said that Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell personally assured him that trumps phone call with ukraines president was, quote, innocent, and yesterday as you heard, mcconnell told reporters that he and trump have never
