Signing the iran deal are saying now is not the time to withdraw from it, it could have repercussions that the u. S. Would not want to face, given that all of the allies that sign the deal dont want the u. S. To withdraw. The fact that macron was discussing the possibility of an addendum that would have stricter language when it comes to the iranian Ballistic Missile testing, perhaps extending deadlines for the Iran Nuclear Program indefinitely, those are items being considered from my sources that told me this. Again, the president does not like it, and from what i understand even earlier this year, james mattis and secretary of state tillerson were arguing that you dont want to withdraw from the deal, but want to impose penalties for human rights abuses. By all appearances looks like hes going to stay in, he wants to fight. One telling interview that happened yesterday following jacksons meeting with the senator was jerry moran, republican from kansas, said he had a positive meeting with jackson, that jackson discussed the allegations, and that jackson wants to fight them. Moran seemed to back jackson. And he is not one to shirk from taking on President Trump. He has done it in the past. He even buffed him on the health care bill. The fact that he stuck his neck out there says a lot, he doesnt stick his neck out there necessarily for this president. Do you think this is raising concerns about being the ability of the Trump Administration and if you think back to the trump campaign, you think about paul manafort, rick gates and lack of vetting for them and the Trump White House the way it is or is not vetting nominees . If you look at whats happened and the individuals that the Trump Administration has supported through the various controversies, you look at scott pruitt who supports a certain policy President Trump wants. One of the challenges with the va secretary nominee is that the democrats and some republicans are antiprivatitization of the va, you see veterans groups, antiprivatitization. But President Trump favors it as do many that were appointed by the administration. Therefore, seeing trump back the nominee has more to do with policy necessarily more than personality. Cofounder. Talking about axioss one big thing for today. The newsletter is going 0 to look at what were calling trumps Worst Nightmare outside of robert mueller. That is you have a growing number of republicans who fear they could lose both the house and the senate. Most republicans thought the house was always in play. But theres a growing number of signs that senate in fact could be in play. And it shouldnt be the case. Because so many of these seats that are up this cycle are in the hands of, of democrats who should be really vulnerable because these democrats hold seats in states that trump won. And so just the mere fact that republicans are concerned about the senate, speaks to the fundamental weakness of trump and gives democrats even more motivation to raise more money, get better candidates, saying the right thing at the right time. So they can keep these contested. I think trumps fear is beyond just bob mueller, i think Stormy Daniels can be in that category as well. How concerned are people in the Republican Party that youve talked to, that the senate could actually fall to democratic control . I dont think they assume it will fall. But now theyre saying they see a realistic possibility that it could fall. And what theyre looking at states like texas where ted cruz is up. It is texas, its superconservative. It should be an easy win. You have a democrat who is outraising ted cruz and youre seeing signs of real enthusiasm in that state. You look at missouri, claire mccaskill, who should be very beatable, shes way outraising her republican rival. And you look at the special elections, a lot of people say they dont really matter. But when every special election starts to go the democrats way and you see women voters turning out in much higher numbers than previous elections and you put on top of that democrats way outperforming on fundraising previous elections, those are the indicators that start to say hey, there might be something going on out there in terms of a wave that should make republicans fearful. I think thats what the republicans are talking about. Theyre not sounding the alarm and saying were definitely going to lose the senate. But theyre saying this thing is in play. You might think the math works in our favor. But democrats are on to something here and we need to double down or we will lose both. That would be the worst possible outcome for donald trump. Because now youve got subpoena power. Now youve got the ability to stop an entire legislative agenda. And it would be a massive repudiation to his style of politics. So where are republicans right now, most vulnerable that they need to sort of add extra effort to securing a seat for the mid terms . I think theyre most vulnerable in that theres not a ton of republican enthusiasm. If you look at the polls and you can dismiss one poll or another. But when you see every poll showing that democrats are more excited than republicans, then you worry about turnout and thats all offyear elections are, most people are lazy. Most dont bother to vote so when you need a voting base, democrats in particular in offyear elections dont turn out. But now youre seeing that they are momentum begets momentum. When people start to turn out, more money pours in, better candidates come out. People who have better skills at teaching the candidates how to be better get back in the game. Thats what republicans are worried about. A topic weve talked about in the past on the show is that the tax cut was a lot more popular a couple of months ago than it is today. In some ways a trump show. So overwhelms a tax cut that has had positive economic shortterm consequences. But republicans arent seeing the benefit that they had hoped to get from that. But im curious, are there certain locations that are more up for grabs right now than others . Or does it seem like now, everything is sort of going to be a free rein from here until november . For republicans it does seem like its spreading, there was a special house election last night. In arizona, it was a district that trump won by 20 points. Republicans won that seat, but they won it barely. And they had to pour Something Like 1 million in at the last second to do it. When youre wasting your money on seats that should be slamdunks, thats when you start to say, hey, these, this is another indicator of trouble that doesnt mean republicans could hold the house and the senate. But theyre deeply concerned. Theyre spread thin and there isnt really a magic formula. I pretty much have to glue yourself to trump and hope that the trump voters who turned out for trump, turn out for you. Its a difficult political strategy.
