And problems for republicans in the state of new jersey where phil murphy a retired wall street executive. In a pickup for democrats murphy defeated Chris ChristiesLieutenant Governor kim guada o guadagno. 77 disapproved of the job christie was doing. You were in virginia last night. Democrats, they didnt just take the governors mansion, they also knocked some big wins in the state house. How does this advance their agenda both in the state and from there nationally. Good morning, ayman. Ralph northam, we were saying all the way out, a less an exciting democrat to put forward. Hes a pretty mildmannered individual. Hes a pediatric neurosurgeon. He did last night is bring out droves of democratic minority voters but he also brought out white voters in areas, north virginia area, particularly wrr where he was able to bring wider margins than Hillary Clinton last year. Loudon county where Hillary Clinton won by 15 . He opened up that margin to 23 . And he actually tied in that race with an even number of voters. What does that mean . For democrats this is a lot of hope looking beyond. Online as you mentioned, it went to the house of delegates where democrats were down by 2 to 1 margin this year. And what they did last night was open it up to where its almost even. There are still some races too close to call. Were a year out from midterms here, democrats looking ahead saying this could really be a thumbs up for us with the midterm elections but theyve got a year to get there. What can be the take away, do you think, for them. I think for democrats, its the fact that the resistance could actually be potentially strong. If they bring out somebody who comes and focuses on issues like health care, like education that theyre able to actually save a chance. Hes from the rural part of the state. I think the question is on the republican side, ed gillespie trying to straddle the line between embracing Donald Trumps style of politics and some issues and tinged ads linking his opponent to ms13, the latino gang. As well as the statutes. And drawing the line there. Yes. Let me ask you about quickly republican congressmen who announced they are not going to seek their reelection next year. This is a growing trend, do you think . And who does it present more of an opportunity does it excite democrats that these are seats they can go after . Or does it excite the nonrepublicans like steve bannon and his that say we can support more seats in the house . Steve bannon is looking for more idealogues. The republicans with a hold on the house of representatives, along with 23 seats, along with nearly two dozen that are retired, theres 23 seats held by republicans that Hillary Clinton won. When you look at that house of delegate seats in virginia, particularly there were many surprising upsets, the question is could that happen on a National Level until a lot of these congressional districts were republicans hold the power now and may have been in office for several terms but places like Hillary Clinton if democrats put potentially a more viable candidate like a Ralph Northam in those districts could they pull it off. Other election news, new york city mayor debla blasi won last night. De blasio becomes the first to win reelection since ed koch captured his win. De blasio spoke to supporters and spoke to President Trump. Question meour message is yoe on new york values and win, mr. President. If you turn against the values of your hometown, your hometown will fight back. After last nights victories, democrats may have reason to believe in polling again. And a new one offers a ray of hope. In a poll connected by cnn, 51 say its bad for the country that republicans currently control congress. 38 say its good. When asked which party they would choose, democrats are preferred 50 to 38 over republicans. And 6 in 10 say theyre more likely to vote for a candidate who opposes trump up four points from april. 35 are more likely to back a candidate who supports the president. Youre looking at Ralph Northam, sort of that mildmannered democrat that pulled in droves of democrats, as well as republicans in order to win that. Saying that health care is the major primary issue. You look at medicaid, virginia, in the past year since the Health Care Act was passed has held back. What you saw was Ralph Northam pushing back and saying this is something that we need to do. One of the interesting things that we saw from our exit polling on the issues when it came to confederate statues, actually 60 of voters felt they should stand. What were looking at is a larger picture when it comes to the skepticism of President Trump. Lets talk about sort of President Trumps influence here for virginia voters. Did he have any . Well, if you look at our exitle positiving there, onethird of the voters overall said that he was a major factor in their opposition to voting for ed gel liillespie, the republican. Ed gillespie kind of straddled that line with racially tinged ads with charlottesville. But when it cams to ms13 linking latinos with these communities. But ed gillespie the former rnc chair, counselor to george w. Bush, he came kind of up with that bargain, can you run a trumpstyle campaign but never ever campaign with trump . The answer we saw last night was no. After the tweet, trump tweeted out gillespie should have embraced him. You kind of get the idea that trump threw him under the bus with that tweet. What are you hearing about how its actually going to differ from the tax plan the gop house has put out . Theyve only got about 45 more days at this point, to pass tax reform by years end which republicans and the administration and the congress have promised to do. When youre looking at that senate bill, the first the first details beginning were beginning to get, one of the the crux of this tax proposal, it comes down to the Corporate Tax cut which the administration has said theyd like to move from 35 to 25 . The republicans and senator are talking about putting a delay on that very detail. 1. 5 trillion over the next ten years is what republicans have put aside in order to at to the deficit. The question is are they able to vote on legislation that does that, especially when theres concern over whether this proposal theyre putting forward may add more than that 1. 5 trillion. Paso Police Department report officers took kelley in june of 2012 at a bus station after he escaped from a Mental Health facility. He had been sent to the facility after being accused of assaulting his wife and fracturing his baby stepsons skull. The Inspector General will now review policies and procedures to make sure that records from other cases have been reported correctly. But according to reports, the Defense Department has reported just a single record of misdemeanor conviction for Domestic Violence by a Service Military member, suggesting a serious lapse by the military in the sharing of Domestic Violence records that would disqualify a person from legally owning a gun. Now, questions have also been raised over the militarys method of compiling the records for sharing. Jeff flake of arizona has introduced Bipartisan Legislation to make it harder for people who have been convicted of Domestic Violence to actually get guns. The bill aims to clarify ambiguity related to the 1996 change to the gun role act of 1968 that requires the military to report Domestic Violence misdemeanors to the National Database for background checks.
