In the cemetery. I think shes a disgrace. I actually dont think shes a talented person. Ive tried to be nice to her because i would have liked to have gotten some deals done. Shes incapable of doing deals. Shes a nasty, vindictive horrible person. Ask nancy why is her district drugs and needles all over the place. Its disgusting what shes allowed to happen to her district with drugs and People Living all over the streets. She made a statement when you were overseas. It was a horrible, nasty vicious statement when im overseas. If i made a statement about anybody, why would he do that when hes overseas. Shes a terrible, nasty person. Her name is nervous nancy because shes a nervous wreck. When youre overseas . Youre still overseas. Heres the original story that sent trump into a tail spin, this is the reporting, i dont want to see him impeached, i want to see him in prison, nancy pelosi said. Instead of impeachment, pelosi still prefers to see him lose at the ballot box and then prosecuted for his crimes according to sources. Heres the voice in Donald Trumps head on the topic of investigating political rivals. Pelosi apparently telling senior democrats shed like to see trump behind bars. Based on no actual crimes she wants a political opponent locked up . In prison . That happens in banana repolitics. Beyond disspeckable behavior. They would turn, in many ways, the usa into a country we would no longer recognize. Put a pin in that, it sure would sean. In case irony is dead, this headline, remember when the New York Times revealed that donald trump tried to ask the Justice Department to prosecute jim comey and Hillary Clinton. It was a move foreshadowed, where instead of singing kumbaya like they do at normal campaigns, they chanted lock her up. For what shes done, they should lock her up. She deleted the emails. She has to go to jail. I think hillary is very weak. I think shes pathetic. I think she should be in jail for what she did with her emails. Its just awfully good that someone with the temperament of donald trump is not in charge of the law in our country. Because youd be in jail. So the moral of the whole story for those of you following along at home, karma is a you know what. Thats where we start today with our favorite reporters and friends, jason johnson, John Heileman is here, Karine Jeanpierre is back, and the rev al sharpton, host of politics nation and were joined by former u. S. Attorney, joyce vance. And Frank Figliuzzi. Frank im going to start with you, as ridiculous as they sound for pointing fingers and accusing their political opponents for doing that which they have done. One of the most disturbing things the president did is ask his Justice Department and attorney general Jeff Sessions investigate and then jail jim comey and Hillary Clinton. So the notion that sean hannity has the capacity, and maybe hes worth what they pay him that he can say those things with a straight face that it makes us a Banana Republic to talk about prosecuting our political rivals. It gets more recent than that. You recall that attorney general barr wouldnt answer the question on the hill as to whether or not anyone at the white house had asked him or talked to him about investigating opponents and others contrary to trump. So its still going on, and for fox news to have someone saying that pelosis behavior smacks of a Banana Republic is to simply disregard reality. Heres the distinction what the president was doing, chanting lock her up and what nancy pelosi was doing with her members. Nancy pelosi has an oath, an obligation to uphold the constitution. The Mueller Report has laid out a strong case for obstruction of justice. So she just needs she all shes doing all Speaker Pelosi is doing is saying we have criminal conduct laid out for us, now we have to figure out how to addressed it, whether its impeachment or imprisonmentment. What the president is doing like a Banana Republic dictator is targeting his opponents without any evidence that theyve committed a crime and, in fact, people like Hillary Clinton and jim comey and Andrew Mccabe are being looked at and we are yet to have evidence. Donald trump is in the Southern District of new york an unindicted coconspirator. And Robert Mueller took to the podium saying if i could say he did not commit crimes, i would have. Donald trump is targeting people that have the audacity to run against him in a Political Campaign and drop the mike flynn matter, i think is what bothers him about jim comey. I guess with trump its always so insane and its wrapped in these conundrums and riddles and torqued by Sean Hannitys lunacy. And there is an open question about what the barr Justice Department will become. I think its a serious question. Youre right, there are miles of water between the accusations, the chants of lock them up that trump and his supporters launched at democrats, and the president who was subject of an investigation, that couldnt quite clear him, might be at risk of going to jail. Those might be two different things. I think the hannity quote tells us something that perhaps he didnt mean to tell us, thats that these challenges and the criticisms of this president as taking us into Banana Republic territory and really tarnishing the Justice Department and opening up its processes to criticism that that criticism has hit him close to home. Theyve seen how effective the charges have been against the trump Justice Department and this is their way of perhaps trying to sling them back. But nicole, the facts still matter, at least they should, and theres no comparison between the president making political accusations and nancy pelosi talking about the results of a criminal investigation. The other open question, John Heileman, is whether nancy pelosi has struck the right balance. But clearly, by putting herself at a fork in the road and presenting one path as impeachment and the other as prison, she got under Donald Trumps skin again. She did. I want to go back to my friend sean. Is that okay . Please. You can go wherever you want to go. I havent been on the show in a while, so im going to warn anyone in the booth im going to use language that might need bleeped out. I yelled to know one in my tendency to call bull in people at fox news that lie. And sean is full of it. We talk about the hypocrisy of this, its hypocritical, we talk about lunacy, your frays, its lunacy. But we talk about a Business Model, the Business Model of fox news is to create an alternative reality thats destroying the country. In that reality, Hillary Clinton is a criminal. She was a criminal from the day that donald trump said that thing on stage at the first debate, second debate in 2016 and at the convention, shes been a criminal nthen, a criminl now. They created a world where there are tens of millions of people who think Hillary Clinton is a criminal. Seans not crazy, he gets what hes doing. Thats his Business Model. So to be clear, you have to understand what theyre doing. And its why nancy pelosi faces the decisions she does. Ive been critical of her about the way she framed the impeachment debate. Shes not speaking clearly about it. But the political reality shes confronting is the political reality created by sean hannity and his Business Model built on lies, and fantasy and hypocrisy. And shes dealing with it every day that theres tens of millions of people that not only havent read the Mueller Report and think theres nothing bad about donald trump in the Mueller Report and still think Hillary Clinton should be in jail. Until we get past it, its the challenge that someone like nancy pelosi has to navigate on this question. You just turned this in a different direction. Lets have that conversation. Because part of the reason i hope thats okay. Its fine with me. You can talk to my producers later. Part of the reason donald trump won was because no one ever had a symmetrical debate with him. The alternate reality is the reality in which donald trump thrives. Its where hand size matters, not only do people think that Hillary Clinton committed crimes, which jim comey came out and said the opposite was true helping donald trump win the election. But its a reality where spying occurred. So i guess the bottom line is, if this is a play and its all bull shit, as you said, the play is in its Second Season and they recast the attorney, sessions is out and barr is in. Its getting more dire we have an attorney general who has embarrassed the fox world news. Thats whats happened and a hugely scary thing for the country. Not only that, but i think if we go back to where all of this sort of anger comes from. Theres a difference in what trump has done and how he presented this had and also what nancy pelosi did. Bear in mind what nancy pelosi said was behind closed doors. It was a closed doors conversation with staff that leaked out. Its not something she ran on. I was just at the conference with the rev in atlanta yesterday. Maxine waters comes out and says impeach 45. She doesnt say throw him in jail. I think hes a criminal. Theres a tone and behavior in a public official saying i think this person committed an act and should be held responsible. And this president says if i dont like you, i will call you names, threaten you with prison, and threaten everyone in your family with prison, and i dont think theres a justification for it. Youre making a point about the reality and a distinction, i disagree with you i think nancy pelosi is fine to have things link out because shes trying to appease a caucus that would like to see her proceed with impeachment more aggressively than she is. No one has an answer to the question that an alternate reality systhas been created. There is no parallel to what the president says and does and what fox news how they cover it. I think thats right. Fox news not only are they divorced from reality and donald trump is divorced from reality. Fox news is just a dangerous political force. Lets be clear, theyve been doing this for a very long time. They did it during obama, while republicans on the hill were obstructing him, the way they went after him constantly, it was personal. It was really personal. Not really about the policy, but it was a personal attack. And so what donald trump is doing is, he does this all the time, he rises up peoples negatives, he brings them to his level so that it for him its a false choice, right. And thats the trick here. He did that in 2016, hes doing that with nancy pelosi, theres nothing new. But hes doing it with nancy pelosi because he fears nancy pelosi, she holds the key. Shes the one thats going to decide if hes going to be impeached or not. Now hes hearing that she wants to throw him in jail. That enrages him. And shes a woman. Nancy pelosi did not become the first speaker ever in the house and the most powerful woman in politics without understanding how to deal with an entitled man, and she knows how to deal with him, right. This is where we are today. So thats what youre seeing from him. I dont think he was scared of Hillary Clinton, but hes scared of nancy pelosi. Rev, i want to know why hes more afraid of prison than impeachment. I think that several things we must remember. One, any time you bring up pelosi, he is unravelled because he cant deal with a smart woman, and weve talked about that. So he gets he sees red when you mention pelosi talk about he could cut a deal with her, he met with her three minutes two weeks ago and walked out. He wasnt trying to make a deal with her. Talking about talking bad about people overseas, he was up in the middle of the night tweeting about bette midler. I think what we are really looking at here goes to some of johns point. The model that they use is this kind of hyper criminalizing of people. Whether it be Hillary Clinton or the central park five. This quote brings that model back to him. And its almost like if youre a fighter and a guy uses your punch because he knows how effective that can be. He knows if he catches on, he should be in jail, because hes used that kind of model against people, he becomes part of the symbol of what he used to make the clintons look like that. The last thing he needs is for people to start picking up in the street, hey, he should be in jail, not impeached because he knows how he worked that kind of craziness in 2016. Youre giving him his own medicine and thats what has him going crazy. Frank and joyce, let me bring you back in and put the same question. Impeachment seemed to be something that trump experienced as a challenge that he would enjoy. You know, a fight, a joust. Prison, prisons like this cold shower, wait, what . Prison . Prison . What did they catch me for . Why do you think, frank you go first on this because we talked about how you would profile someone like trump how would you profile a suspect that acts so out of his mind at the specter of prison . First, theres a new i word and its not impeachment, its imprisonment. This pressed the button with him, why . I think he looked at manafort, realized his fate, hes rotting in prison right now. And he could have dealt with impeachment as a positive. He could have played the victim, he does that very well. But now pelosi has oneupped him, said no theres something worse than that that you cant play well, and thats going to prison. That got to him. I wonder if this now signals the start of nancy pelosi becoming a proxy, basically the embodiment of all things democratic for him. So he has two dozen opponents for the race for president. Thats a lot of people to single out and bully every day. I think well start seeing pelosi becoming that single proxy and representative that he can lash out and tell the public this is the bad person thatpeop joyce, i want to get on the record, you know, were not talking about prison. Nancy pelosi isnt talking about prison the way that donald trump talks about prison. I want to make this abundantly clear. I think what has been reported, the body of public reporting, after the cohen sentencing in december of 2018, it became clear that the Southern District of new york viewed donald trump as an unindicted co so coconspirator. Theres reasons for donald trump to run against reelection, assurance against prosecution. After the Mueller Report came out, there was evidence that was preserved for future prosecution. When you talk about the possibility of a prosecution or indictment for donald trump its because the reporting suggests that it is a real and viable concern among people close to donald trump. When donald trump chants lock her up about Hillary Clinton, its for conduct that was never described as criminal by the u. S. Justice department or fbi that investigated her. Its an incredibly revealing moment where trump really would have been much smarter to just let this pass, but hes now brought back into focus this notion that there are allegations out there of criminal conduct against him, the Southern District of new york presumably has facts that indicate that they could indict him. There are other investigations, some of the redacted investigations that could reach him. The attorney general in new york is looking at conduct that the Trump Organization engaged in. We know throughout this, theres this underlying threat of bob mueller who refuses to exonerate the president from allegations that he obstructed justice. We need to just stop for a minute and think about that, serious allegations that the president of the united states, the man whos in charge of law enforcement, obstructed justice and if thats not enough to send trump into a tizzy, there is now a letter signed by over 1,000 former federal prosecutors, republicans and democrats, which is to say career folks who looked at the law and looked at the evidence and concluded that trump is at great risk of going to prison in the future, that scares him. To address the topic we were supposed to be here to talk about, which is pelosi. I will say one thing. This is an important week. Obviously she wanted that quote to be out in public and she put it out there. I agree. I think up until now youve had this thing where you had the Democratic Candidates for president , most notably Elizabeth Warren but most of the others well talk about joe biden in a bit most of them saying impeachment inquiry, lets go. Most of what you hear is mush mouth, hes committed impeachable offenses, i dont know if we should do impeachment, well do an investigation, blah, blah, blah, they look like idiots. Now shes put forward a clear idea, which is to say i dont want to impeach him, i want to put him in prison, thats clear. I think going back to what rev said, trump gets that. He gets the clarity of the message. So when democrats sound like theyre uncertain, ambiguous, all over the place, trump looks at it theyre a mess. Now he hears pelosi say theres a message, a message more threatening, so she hit the position, i dont want to impeach him you can im not saying you cant do both. Shes been looking for an answer how do we hold off impeachment hearings. This is a good answer. If thats what shes trying to a i chief, its a better answer than shes coming up with before. Its in their world of fear. Lets not forget it was a couple weeks ago, nancy pelosi went to a ceremony at the white house and they said, did you bring the handcuffs . I mean, this is in their psyche because that is what they are afraid of. And those of us from new york knows donald trump does know people that goes to jail and the ones around him. Its no joke when you are somebody that is a real present danger. He can make like who jokes to the speaker, did you bring the handcuffs . He can go on a tour, wheres michael cohen, he can go to three prisons and see three friends. Joyce vance, Frank Figliuzzi thanks for joining us. The latest polls showing him with a 12 point lead. With the first debates less than three weeks away his competitors are going on the offense, drawing sharper contrasts with the former Vice President but as the New York Times highlights, his opponents have begun the delicate footwork of going on the attack without looking like the aggressor. They are hoping the voters and news media pick up on their message in a way that doesnt sully them in the process. The table is back. Is this smart . Is this the way to go . This feels like a ground game, because you talk to voters, they like biden a lot more than the Political Press would suggest. I think it is smart. Not only the fact that a lot of the voters like biden, the fact that they dislike trump so. That they dont want anyone to try and get any distraction from what is perceived as the enemy, which is trump. And i think that people are being very careful, im talking about the candidates, not to appear to be the one that breaks rank. The real test is going to be at the debates because how are you going to distinguish yourself, especially if youre on the stage with biden without especially if youre one of these doing very low in the polls. How does anybody remember youre there, unless you throw a hail mary and that could get testy and divisive, and how will biden respond . Last night i spoke at the africanamerican summit and he spoke as well. He is a testy fighter when hes attacked. I think hes stayed on the high road, but hes not going to be one, i think, thats going to stand up there and not answer an attack. I dont think hell get in the mud, but i dont think hes also the kind of guy that wont respond. So thats going to be the test, what happens in the debate. Let me press you and bring everyone in on this. I feel theres a disconnect right now between how we cover biden, theres been about 48 hours of near hysterical coverage on his change in position on the hyde amendment, when he changed position not just for himself but also for the entire Barack Obama White house, he was hailed a hero. His position evolved. When you spend time in public life, positions evolve. I saw a spokesperson for his campaign really on the defensive. Is there a gap between what voters think about biden and a change in position . Ive had this conversation with members of team biden. Look, in the real world my friends in ohio, north carolina, georgia who dont do this on a regular basis, dont care about the hyde act, the crime bill they dont care about anita hill. No, they dont. Im not saying they should, no judgment. But voter mentality, they look at biden, like the message, the legacy and what you described, they like the fighter. People are forgetting what he did to paul ryan, he took down a kid half his age and was very good in those debates. You cant just go for joe biden in these debates, he will be able to defend himself. When everyone is making the vague, we cant know the past, the future, whos going to take the suicide pact, im not winning im going straight for him in the debate. Someone is going to make that decision, how he responds to that person will decide what Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris or what anyone else does. There are voters and there are voters right. The democratic nominee electorate we talk about people say this, say that. Well, the democratic nominee electorate is to the left of where joe biden is on issues historical historically. No doubt about it. That doesnt mean he cant be the nominee for whatever reason, he can take on trump, whatever. But the question has always been when the party has moved as far as it has to the left, especially at the activist level, whether the series of issues that joe biden is to the right of them, whether thats going to be a problem. This is the first time its a problem, its not going to be the last. You saw seth molten, hes in zer zero per sent of the polls. Welcome youre on the right side of the hyde amendment. Now what about the iraq war, the iraq war took down Hillary Clinton against barack obama in 2008. That was the main thing, a point of policy distinction between barack obama and Hillary Clinton. Were going to talk about the iraq war and joe biden, and i know were going to talk about this, about impeachment. Everybody whos above 2 in the polls except maybe Amy Klobuchar and joe biden is for an impeachment inquiry. So that question, joe biden why are you not where Elizabeth Warren, cory booker, Kamala Harris, the rest here they are. Yes. Joe biden is not. Hes going to get questions about the iraq war, is he going to change his position . This is a dynamic thats going to play out and the central challen challenge for joe biden. I think he did fine this week. I dont think it hurt him at all. But for months Going Forward hes going to be answering questions about is he where the Democratic Party is today or where the democratic was and he was comfortably situated for most of his career. The problem is hes the front runner. Thats its. If he was at 1 , nobody would care what joe bidens 40year career was. Hes the front runner. Were in a situation where the media, we cover donald trump, hes president of the united states, 90 of the time. So 10 of that air time, those 20 plus candidates have to fight for it. Thats where we are right now. The other reason why hes the front runner is because people want to beat donald trump, they believe that joe biden is going to do that. Therm t they remember the legacy of obama. It makes them feel good, brings them back to a certain time. I have to give him credit, he did the right thing going back on the hyde amendment. I agree. You have to remember women came out in 2018 and theyre going to play a big role, particularly black women, thats a good move for him. Hes talking white working class, trying to hold the africanamerican base, he cant be for the hyde amendment. He did it well. He did it last night at the dinner i referred to. I think were missing one thing because ive been on that stage in the president ial debates. Its not just who what raised which questions are raised, its who raises them. Because if you have somebody that people dont see as having standing or familiarity, they dont care what they raise. They dont know who some of these people are. And theyre looking at joe biden, Barack ObamasVice President , who was there and got the gay marriage through and this, that, and the other, and this is a big deal with health care. And some guy or lady they never heard of is trying to beat up on uncle joe, who was with barack. Thats the problem. You have to remember when barack obama took on Hillary Clinton, Hillary Clinton had a lot of unfavorables and barack obama was the rising star, black, in the senate. You dont have anybody on the stage that has stature to take a punch other than at somebody in the audience and you hope they dont do that. You saw it this week when all of them put themselves on the side of the hyde amendment. When all of them this week said were for repealing the hyde amendment, he moved. I dont think he moved because of them. I think he moved because of black women right. Which is why, john, he waited and changed in front of the africanamerican summit last night. He did not respond to the candidates. He went in that black audience, he had he used that moment. Its true. He said, before i do that, he put the script down and started talking about the hyde amendment. He didnt respond to them. Thats right. Last point. Joe biden is the front runner but his biggest concern right now in the midst of this, what happens when you become mr. Inevitable, the first time you screw up is when you really fall off the cliff. Thats what happened to Hillary Clinton. The biggest danger he has rights now he has to look like hes working for this. If he looks like hes going to coast, people will come after him, even in the activist community and key primary states. Nobody is going anywhere, dont worry. They wont come after him if Karine Jeanpierre is on the stage. My girl. I was biding my time. You got it first. Sign up with net generation, official youth tennis of the usta. As weve been discussing the 2020 Democratic Candidates is the largest and most diverse in history, all of them fighting for air time, which may explain why last night mayor Pete Buttigieg appeared on show time where he appeared to have some fun. Youre hood certified, uptown certified. Thats right. You know, they say in new york city youre not allowed to have a thing called open containers, but if you put an alcoholic beverage inside a brown bag, the cops dont see it. Its good. Its the fog of war. I got to come here more often. Dont let the kids see. Salut. Salud. Keep it low in case the cops come by. Im mayor pete. I guess my question, or my observation is, donald trump had this strategy of turning down no you talked to people in the trump camp they said at the time, it pained him to turn down Media Opportunities he felt like it was free air time, it pained him. And when people stopped talking to him on the phone it pained him when he couldnt get rudy, christy or kellyanne to go on the show. Mayor pete has nothing in common with President Trump, we say that, except his communication strategist has said were not going to say no. Were going to take every opportunity given to us by the media because people know who he is, yes, in our world he has, you know, hes interesting, intriguing, we talk about him, but a lot of people dont know who he is. There was a South Carolina poll that came out two, three weeks ago and showed he was 0 with africanamerican. This wasnt just a media appearance. So he needs to make traction with africanamerican voters or else after iowa or New Hampshire hes done. This is the problem that Pete Buttigieg is having right now. Is this going to work . Its not going to work with certain people. I ch watched it, its great. Ive been critical of mayor pete, when i wrote about what he did with housing and things like that in south bend. This is the fastest learning curve ive seen from a candidate with africanamerican people ever. He went from not knowing anything to engaging in social and Media Opportunities that are going to help him. I will tell you about South Carolina, its not just hes zero, there are issues he faces with black voters in South Carolina that people dont want to talk about. I talked to a person thats the head of the local party, we sat around in our church and said hes gay and married, we wont vote for him. Thats in the White Community but in the black community its a real issue. He has to make himself available to younger black voters because old black voters arent going to vote for him. Thats why its smart for him to not turn down Media Opportunities. Because youre dealing in some parts of the country with older black voters, homophobia is there. And the more they see him, the more they dont see him as something odd. Remember, viewers a certain age in a certain region of the country, to think that im going to vote for a married, gay man is unbelievable. But if you start seeing him a lot, like he went to silvias with me, did the show and all, you may not vote for him, but you dont think he is that weird or that is something you cant even think is in the possible. So i think he needs to do that because it normalizes him with a lot of people that needs to grow to understand this is not the america that you were with your biases and prejudgments, growed up to be. I think its a mistake right now to focus on pete. Although this opens the door to it, he has a challenge. If i look at the top tier of the democratic field, other than joe biden, who has real support, especially among older africanamericans, Elizabeth Warren, cory booker, Kamala Harris, every one of them has the challenge, none of them have any particular cultural connection or some of their policies would be good for the Africanamerican Community and some are banking on it working, i dont know how well it will work. But the reality is you have a bunch of people below joe biden and then you have candidates of color who are still introducing themselves to the country and to the communities outside of the states theyre known. Kamala harris known well in california, racial affinity, maybe but not a natural constituency in South Carolina. Same with cory booker. Petes challenge with africanamerican voters is the challenge that virtually every white candidate has. I take my hat off to him for going on the show. Because you see blindness, mostly. Or giving a speech at revs conference, which reaches the people in the room. Or they have talked about policies and the policies i think i saw you nod your head, i have questions about whether policies that are even targeted policies on criminal Justice Reform and things that dispor forceally affect africanamerican, i have questions about it, i dont know if its enough for them to suddenly have 30 of the africanamerican vote in South Carolina. Heres why he has a bigger challenge, black voters are some of the most sophisticated voters in the country, we look at how white people behave and determine whether its going to make sure its work. Africanamerican voters see a 37yearold guy who was a mayor, who is gay and the rest of White America is not going to vote for him. America could vote for a white women, thats why Elizabeth Warren is doing better with africanamerican women influence now. Warren is getting retweeted by comedians. People know who beto orourke is. Pete has a challenge. He has a challenge i dont think he has the same challenge. Dont underestimate when he does a show like show time or comes to a conference. The people hes standing with, we penetrate. And if were saying theyre acceptable, it gives them some kind of image of well, we can at least hear them, because youre dealing with figures that he watches the show every week or people members of my organization whatever watch politics nation. It gives you something where people normalize you because you know them, they penetrate and theyre saying this is credible. And a mistake a lot of progressive white candidates made, careen and i have had this conversation, they try to stand on their own, and never get accredit dated by people having credibility standing with them. They start thinking they can speak to black people, after two meetings they think they speak for black people. Isnt it true that bad news travels faster. If he knocked himself out absolutely. If he had gone and failed it would have penetrated through to the bone absolutely. It does travel much faster. Its one of those days. Of course, this story comes next. A tweet from the president sent from on Board Air Force i just this afternoon. It may put a button on the headscratcher of the visit to the u. K. Heres a quote from donald trump. For all of the money we are spending, nasa should not be talking about going to the moon. We did that 50 years ago. They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including mars, of which the moon is a part, defense and science, exclamation point our friend matt miller puts whatever that was against the backdrop of this bizarre whirl of a week. He said, so this week trump continued his feud with the dead man, picked a new one with bette midler, attacked a royal family member, said ireland should build a wall on its border with north ireland, that he didnt serve in vietnam because it was too far away, and the moon was part of mars. Cool cool. You can focus on that tweet for about two hours, and there it is. I swear, youre going to come up empty. Youre going to come up empty. Youre going to come up empty. Did you call the press up . Whats their number. I mean, seriously, does he think sometimes if youre drunk enough or high enough, you can figure out what hes talking about. Oh, i see it, i see it. This one didnt work. I watched this whole european vacation president ial griswold thing he did with his family big ben we talk all the time about how candidates dont necessarily do well abroad, but its like, dude, youve been at the shop three years now. You should do better at the way youre reacting rather than offending meghan markle. Its a maze to mazing to me par world can still respect a man who implicitly fails. Talking about the moon and mars as separate. He says forget about going to the moon, that was 50 years ago. Lets go to mars where the moon is a part of, but dont go to the moon. If you can figure that out, come on. We absorbed the moon, its in the Mars Development now. Look, when i think about his in the old days when i would do morning joe, i was like, please dont ask me about palestinians, i didnt read that part. Now its like, please dont ask me about the moon tweet. Going back to what we saw in the u. K. This week, it really is just a travel circus of chaos and incompetence. Thats what it is. And the worry that i have is hes damaged our reputation so much that its going to take years to repair. And, you know, you were talking about has he not learned . Its been three years, but he does not care. Its pomp and circumstance. Thats what he wants. He wants the pageantry. He wants to be treated like a king. Anything else, its all about his own personal politics. Let me ask you all a serious question. I put this question to the table a couple days ago and i got radio silence. Whats wrong with him . Because i remember the interviews he did with you at the beginning of the circus, and there was more going on. A friend of his described him as really tired by the job, but youve been around, tom. Whats going on . If you go back to not even the 20152016 period, if you go back to the howard stern interviews that he gave in the 80s and 90s and even the early 2000s, theyre a world of difference with how he conducts himself. And when you read the interviews, or when he gives a print interview which occasionally happens, you look at the transcript and word salad is the wrong way to describe it. He has a hard time not just prosecuting a complex argument but finishing a sentence. Thats a coherent, single sentence with an object subject, verb and an object. He doesnt do that very well. And that is not how he was 20 years ago. Not. Again, you can look on youtube. Look at the old speeches. Whatever you thought of him in his disagreeableness, he was a relatively coherent person giving relatively coherent interviews. I have often said if you met him at a Backyard Barbecue at a friends house, and you walked up to him and said, im sorry about your father or uncle, ive seen what dementia does, because he often conducts himself as adult old man feeding pigeons in the park. I think thats a thing that has been progressive. He was like that as a candidate, worse now in the white house. You know what its like to be in there. The pressure of the job, even if youre trump, even if youre not present in most realities, the pressure and strain are all the things that impact that state of cognitive function. Most of all, though, they reveal the person for better and for worse. Its an xray. Well sneak in a last break. Well be right back. Right back. Your brain changes as you get older.
