legitimacy. we have to be really careful about that. >> yes. and i want to ask you about the democrats' new voting rights legislation, this compromise bill dubbed the freedom to vote act. in light of your conversation with senator cruz earlier this week, what do you think of this new bill's i.d. requirements, flexible i.d. requirements, but thanks to joe manchin's involvement, it does involve some form of voter i.d. what do you make of that? >> well, i think that's part of my point to the senator, right? every voter i.d. law is not the same. texas has chosen to go down a path of a very restrictive i.d. law when there were other options. some states allow you to do a signature match. some allow you to do an affidavit if you can't get the appropriate i.d. and still allow you to vote. so there are other ways to do voter i.d. but even more importantly, i think we have to stop putting the burden on voters to try to hop over all these different obstacles and burdensome restrictions in order to cast a ballot. if the right to vote is
