this is part of our mavericks interviews. she pushed boundaries on gender identity when she was out wearing men's clothing and touring worldwide with the our rhythmics. >> when you were coming up the reaction around the world is, wow, how can she dress like that? does that mean she's gay? what does that say about gender? you've said at the time you weren't trying to be a gender bender so what were you trying to do? >> i wanted to be a powerful performer and i wanted to resonate to people. by the time dave and i formed e eurythmics. it was the sense of being equals, almost like twins on the stage. we were each other's muse. i wore all kinds of costumes.
