calling and telling the truth. the other person has already figured out the story that they're going to use that's not true. that's pretty rare, and certainly quick and devious thinking by someone. >> reporter: father and son, one falsely accused of an appalling crime. the other the real killer and a devious liar. the case would be a tough one. it went to veteran homicide detective jim beining. >> they both immediately accused each other as being the killer. >> so, you got to evaluate all these stories and figure out what's really going on. >> i do. it's a difficult case. >> reporter: first responders found diane kyne's lifeless body face up in her own bed. kevin's loving mother, bill's loving wife, was just 49 years old. >> it appears that she is -- died from possible strangulation or asphyxiation. and there's some other things in the room. there's broken glasses at the bottom of the bed and a shoe. >> maybe most interestingly there was blood.
