second half of our time there, as we continued evacuation, the taliban were helpful in establishing outer perimeter security which prevented some attacks. there's a down side. also allowed them to screen people that might otherwise have gotten to the airfield. that's a harsh fact. you have to balance those, force protection of our forces, supported by taliban external presence against the fact that it may prevent people you would like to bring out from being able to get to you unmolested, and that's a difficult balance. i frankly came down i wanted to protect our forces and needed that outer boundary. to that degree, we were able to work together. i had no particular affection for the taliban and i don't know that they're doing anything at all for us right now. those questions better go to department of state along with questions of basing, where we might get closer basing than where we are now.
