The operator of the plant has discovered highly radioactive water could have leaked from a holding tank but says none of it has gotten past surrounding barriers. Tokyo electric power officials report that on friday inexperimentors discovered a pool of water at the base of the tank. It was approximately 20 centimeters squared. Beta ray emission measured 70 millisieverts per hour. Workers placed sand bags around the pool and theres no sign that its getting bigger. The water in the Holding Tanks has been treated to remove cesium. Officials believe the water in the pool came from one of the tanks. The tank with the suspected leak is an older model that has leaked before. Its Steel Pilates are bolted together rather than welded. Tokyo electric power plans to remove the remaining water in the tank for further treatments. Officials at the plant are facing another problem they say the number of injuries among workers last year doubled and put it down to inexperience. Tepco Officials Say 63 workers were injured. One worker died after falling from a storage tank. The officials attribute the rise in the number of injuries to an increase in inexperienced employees. They say more than 70 of those injured have less than a year of experience at the plant. The number of plant workers doubled from 2013 because of the increase of construction of water storage tanks. Last year as many as 7,000 people worked at the plant on any given day. Tepco Officials Say they plan to step up the training of workers. High School Students from hiroshima have traveled to the u. N. Headquarters to deliver an important message. They are conveying the pleas of the survivors of the atomic bombing to eliminate Nuclear Weapons and hoping the message will say delegates on a conference on disarmament. Reporter this 17yearold is from hiroshima. Shes participating in a forum. She and three others represent a committee from their high school. The group has been advocating for the total elimination of Nuclear Weapons. Members asked people who support their cause to sign petition. She grew up in hiroshima. Her relatives are atomic bombing survivors. When she was a student in junior high she found out the bomb killed more than 300 children at her school alone. Translator i learned that the atomic bombing took away everything indiscriminately. I think its horrific. Reporter she wanted to learn more about what happened. So she joined the Nuclear Abolition committee. She meets survivors and listens to their stories. The group has spoken to about 40 people since 2011. Members posted videos of the interviews on the website called hiroshima archive. Reporter survivors are getting old. One died just a week before a scheduled interview. She feels time is running out. Translator many survivors are old and sick. I know they have a lot of things in their hearts that they cant express with words. I want to tell the world what they conveyed to us. I feel thats my responsibility. Reporter after she and her group arrived in new york they went to u. N. Headquarters to give a presentation. She spoke about the survivors she met. She called on the world to abolish Nuclear Weapons so future generations wont experience the same tragedy. Many survivors say im happy to talk about my experience. I hope the day will come when all Nuclear Weapons are abolished and peace will be realized. Im very touched. The survivors, they will pass away some day. But their spirit was passed to the young students. They are making good steps and working hard to get the word out. And to help the world to remember what happened. After experiencing baking temperatures early this week cuba was slammed with powerful storms that left two people dead. Jonathan oh is here with more on that and this hours weather update. We were talking about temperatures reaching to around 40 degrees celsius in cuba earlier this week. People heading to the beach trying to stay cool because these temperatures are very very warm. In fact record breaking over in havana on sunday and then we saw a low pressure system that was moving out of the Southern Plains dallas producing tornadoes and major severe storms and as it pushed towards the east it also brought with it a cold front that ran right into cuba and produced some very extensive storms. I want to show you what it looks like when it came to these storms rolling through. In havana cubas capital was hit hard. Hail storms and strong winds about 100 Kilometers Per Hour were reported. As we mentioned two people died from the storm. One woman was killed because of the flooding. Another man lost his life after being electrocuted. In addition to widespread flooding were getting reports of several land slides taking place over the area. Now as we go through friday i think we will see an improvement in the forecast. Maybe some scattered showers along with this line of rain thats continuing to push eastward over cuba but then we should see a little bit more in terms of sunshine. Meanwhile the rest of the United States seeing relatively calm weather. A low moving through the deep south in the north and east. That will bring rain in the Midatlantic States and Southern States like virginia and then were going to see High Pressure controlling the rest of the United States, mainly seeing sunny skies, dry conditions and temperatures are going to be quite warm as well. What were looking out for is a nontropical system towards the eastern side of australia, probably going to produce heavy amounts of rainfall during the next couple of days.
