I want to point out to you that while this system is very, very large, it is still packing quite a punch. It has been downgraded to a severe tropical storm. But in the process, still bringing lots of rain, because of the moisture coming in from the southern end of the system. And as we go throughout the overnight period monday night into tuesday, this system is expected to clear, at least in terms of the center of circulation, off of honshu and off of japan as we go throughout the day tuesday. But, the wraparound moisture will still be bringing rain and some windy conditions, at least for the morning hours. I want to give you the perspective of how much rain fell during a 48hour period as vongfong moved through the area in parts of kyushu, 521 millimeters of rainfall just in that twoday span. 451 millimeters of rainfall fell and on the smaller islands up to 163 kilometer per hour gusts were reported. These are some very powerful winds. As we go throughout the next 24 hours were still looking at rainfall totals anywhere from 200 to 300 millimeters of rain as far north as the tohoku region. What is happening is, a low pressure system is really developing itself ahead of that warm moisture thats really saturating the atmosphere. Whenever you have cold air filtering behind it, it gives a really big punch. And when that happens, you open up the skies, and you start seeing some Severe Weather. We are talking about numerous wind damage reports. And also hail size as large as a half dollar in some cases. So these are some pretty large hail that are falling. Thankfully, so far we havent seen much in terms of tornado reports. In fact we havent had any tornado reports from sunday. Now as we go through monday the risk for tornadoes does remain, especially for this area highlighted in red. You are under a moderate risk for Severe Weather from the western portion of tennessee in areas like memphis down into parts of mississippi, louisiana, and also into arkansas. So look out for the possibility of seeing strong winds. Thats the primary threat here, with some large hail and isolated tornado. But the threat also lingers for slight risk all the way up to places like indiana and also illinois and as far south as alabama and also again in eastern texas, as a lookout for that. And then once this front clears the area for here, the eastern seaboard of the United States will need to look out for the possibility of some Severe Weather. Back to the west we are seeing some drier conditions with sunny skies. But much colder. Look at the 16 in denver, 14 in winnipeg.
