Wildfires as they burn out of control in several regions, forcing thousands to flee their homes. We begin in israel, protests have erected across the country after the knesset approved changing the judicial system. Thousands have taken to the streets, blocking highways and clashing with police. The new measure blocks the power of the Supreme Courts to block measures it seems it deems unreasonable. Allies of Benjamin Netanyahu say this is important for democracy. We are not giving up chances for a broad agreement and i tell you it is possible. A coalition will contact the opposition to hold a dialogue. We are ready to discuss everything immediately and do it in a round of talks during the recess and reach a comprehensive agreement. If necessary, we will add more time until the end of november. It is more than enough time to reach an agreement on everything. We all agree that israel must remain a strong democracy. That it will continue to protect individual rights for everyone. That the court will continue to be independent and no party will take over it. Anchor meanwhile, a car has plowed into a group of demonstrators in a protest march, three people injured north of tel aviv. The driver was arrested. The motive remains unclear. We have more from tel aviv. Reporter for 29 weeks theyve been protesting in tel aviv, the center of the protest movement against judicial reform. It has gotten them nowhere. They are back out protesting tonight in significant numbers. Tel aviv is a liberal island in what is a much more conservative country. Its also the home of the countrys very successful Tech Industry and contributes 18. 1 to israels gdp, more than any other industry. It is tech leaders who have been particularly critical of the judicial reform law. I fear that we can no longer the status quo and coexist in the country. When you have a government with people in it who are corrupt or fanatic, when you take away reasonability, they can take lawmaking. The legitimacy to pass additional laws that will be even more discriminatory, even more extreme. We are very afraid of that. Reporter its possible and likely there will be appeals by opponents of this law to israels Supreme Court, the very organization at the center of the reform. When that happens, it could lead to a constitutional crisis. Anchor demonstrations against the amendment began early monday. Our correspondent has been following the developments and sent this report from west jerusalem. Reporter hours before voting began, demonstrators out in force. Blocking the roads to israels parliament, trying to prevent members from reaching the knesset. This is the one way the country will go on from here. Will it be democracy will it be liberal . If this is passed today, there will be riots in the streets, aggression and terrible things will happen to this country. Reporter the bill in question part of a larger package of proposals from Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu. A highly controversial piece of legislation that among other things which trip the Supreme Court of its power to overrule government or ministerial decisions it deems unreasonable. Extremely worrying for demonstrators who have insisted this will put the country on a dangerous path to autocracy. It is the final threat to israels democracy and we are trying to make somebody listen to us because a majority of the people want democracy. Reporter with the size of the crowd growing and the Security Force increased, attempts to clear the road continued through the day. Police are continuing to drag protesters away who are blocking the entrance to the knesset. Several have already been arrested at this hour and yet the demonstrators out here opposed to this very contentious bill say they are determined to stay. Both outside and inside parliament, tensions rose in equal measure. Opposition politicians chanting shame before walking out and boy counting boycotting the final vote. But in the end, the bill would pass. Seen as a crushing blow to those who dedicated themselves to stopping it. I dont know my mind is capable of comp hinting anything like that. My heart and soul are dreading and scared and i dont know what to do. Reporter a short distance away in front of israels Supreme Court, another massive demonstration, defiance on display as israel finds itself at a crossroads, facing a crisis that only seems to deepen. Anchor we have been speaking to a political analyst who says israel is destabilizing. Not everyone in this neighborhood likes the israelis and the image of israel as a superpower and the country that can even dictate United States of america and play with the president of the United States gives israel its strength. It is a small country with 9 Million People surrounded tens of millions of arabs. The image of israel now as a country that is collapsing from the inside may bring some of those neighbors to the wrong conclusions. Even the United States may come to these conclusions that with friends like israel or allies like israel, we dont need enemies. There was an open letter to President Biden suggesting the United States should reconsider its strategic relationship with israel. Anchor the United States is closely watching the developments in israel. Mike hanna is outside the white house. We had a statement yesterday from President Biden calling the reforms divisive. What more reaction have we had from the administration . Mike in recent days, the administration has been expressing concern about this legislation. President biden did so in person with the israeli president in a meeting last week and in a subsequent phone call with the Prime Minister. Now that the first part of the legislation has been passed, the white house has issued a statement saying it is regrettable that the measure was passed without consensus, saying consensus is necessary when there are changes within democracy. Similar sentiments from the state department. This is what their spokesmen had to say. As a lifelong friend of israel, President Biden has publicly and privately expressed his views that major changes in a democracy, if they are going to be enduring, must have as broad a consensus as possible. It was unfortunate the vote today to place the slimmest possible took place with the slimmest possible majority we understand talks are underway for a broader compromise even with the knesset recess. We will continue to support leaders as they seek a broader consensus through dialogue. Anchor israel has always been an important u. S. Ally, we always hear about the ironclad support. How are the tensions likely to play out politically in washington . Mike you hear every statement of criticism presaged by what a good friend the u. S. Is derisive to israel. But there are concerns within the administration about the context of what is happening here. All are well aware this is just the first and what is planned to be a series of legislative acts that will impinge on the democratic process, it is believed, within israel. Netanyahu is bolstered by the far right nationalists in his government along with the extreme religious groups. They are the bodies driving this whole process. This is the state department and the biden administration, they are aware of these facts, and also the possibility that this is just the first brick and what will be a wall of legislation in coming months that will impinge and shrink democracy in israel. Anchor mike, thank you. It has been 100 days since fighting started in sudan between the army and elementary paramilitary forces. We have the story. The Sudanese Army and people believe this war has been imposed on them and is supported by foreign countries. There is an arab country standing behind it. The proposed solutions do not contain strategic or smart incentives that could lure the size to serious talks. This war is existential for both sides and the more it drags on, the more past tragedies it evokes for the sudanese, which only provides more fuel. Reporter the Sudanese Army welcomed the proposals and announced they would end the fighting if the other side of draws from public buildings in private homes and stop saluting. Reporter as a gateway to one of the few sea routes for gain shipments from ukraine, this remote Southwest Corner is one of the countrys most strategically important right now. We are invited by one of the largest grain exporters to see its rapidly expanding facility. Like most other companies, it used to rely heavily on black seaports like odessa, heavily targeted recently by russia in overnight missile attacks, which also canceled the grain deal that had guaranteed limited exports. We never expected russia could be part of something that is supportive or hopeful for ukrainian business. We will keep our independence and take control of our export chain in order to keep our advantages and be on a strong side. Reporter the advantage of these facilities is they feed directly into the waters of friendly neighboring nato countries.
