Last year he was not healthy and he so desperately wanted to make the ryder cup team. Some said he was pressing a bit and he wasnt 100 . He played all summer long trying to get the points or get the attention of his captain. Did not end up being a pick. Hes made the ryder cup in the past and the president s cup and i would think this is a guy thats going to be a big part of the u. S. As it rebuilds its ryder cup efforts in the future. Peter kostis down to you. Peter thank you jim. Im here with the champion. We talked earlier. How disappointed you fell out of the 50, not to be qualified for your favorite tournament, the masters and the world Golf Championship and being able to set the schedule you like. And now this week with your play you have it back. How does that feel . It feels awesome. Its been a long time since ive felt this way and its really special. Peter i was particularly impressed with the way you struck the ball this week. There are several times you wanten ran away from trouble and veteran move. Ive been around long enough i should know that stuff. I fought well. I made the key putts when i needed them and im so thankful this week is over. It was so stressful. Man, im so excited about whats next. Peter congratulations. Go sign your card, make it official. Thanks a lot. Jim he is thankful and he is thoughtful and hes got tremendous talent. Brandt snedeker is good for this game. Nick absolutely. Hes a fine young man. Speaks well plays well, does everything right. Jim lets you know whats in his heart too. Moves into fifth on the fedexcup standings list. Of course, hes a past fedexcup champion. Walking off to the scorers tent off into the sunset. With a little boy little girl and his wife mandy. Lilly and austin. Austin didnt want to be left behind. He wants to go in and attend the signing of the card. Just a moment ago jim furyk. This was his second shot. Boy, did he flirt with trouble off the tee but he found land. Hop on up there. Good shot for jim. And hes got about 15 feet maybe for an eagle coming up. Which could move him into a tie for fourth if he holes it. That was some shot. I cant believe where the tee shot landed there nick. Nick scary try to get it down that left edge. Jim on the road to the final four next saturday and sunday. Florida and l. S. U. , ohio state and michigan on sunday. That will be leading into our golf coverage from the Northern Trust open. Saturday and sunday 3 00 eastern time. Bubba won it a year ago. Of course, hell be there to defend. Brandt snedeker will be on hand, as will watney and Jordan Spieth and jim furyk and many others. A good crowd is going to gather there, as we head to hollywood and more sunshine. Tonight on cbs 60 minutes, undercover boss, and c. S. I. I tell people this story sometimes. Weve been talking about brandt and you saw all the emotion. With this win its his seventh win so, you know, this is not the first time hes tasted this kind of success but he was away from it for a little while but by his high and lofty zpwds now hes back on top and he gets to go to that tournament and sets the course for Everything Else that comes with it. Nick absolutely. Get into the top 50. That gets you into all the w. G. C. Events, all the majors and your invitation back to the masters and thats, as you can see, extremely important to him. Jim i tell this story to people many times that augusta has some of its history and d. N. A. Right here at pebble beach. In 1929, the first big event the 10 year of this golf course, as we watch this little chip by matt jones. He was there in two so hell have a putt for birdie coming up. The 1929 u. S. Amateur here. Bobby jones was a worldwide celebrity and the star of the sport and got into the match play portion. He lost, which was a shocker. To a guy out of nebraska, Johnny Goodman and before he had the transportation to train to go back to georgia he had a couple of days still to spend around here. He went up just a couple of miles away here and of course caught at a course called Cypress Point golf course which had just opened. He asked a guy named alexander mackenzie, hey i have this piece of land in augusta. Would you assist me with this little project. It all started here. Nick the roots. Jim mackenzie had a home north of here near santa cruz. Another course that he built. Heres eric close. Hes been playing here for a long time. Got a very tidy thing. Both he and lewis playing in the final group. Eric close the actor who as clint mentioned had a role in american sniper and his own Television Series with nashville after longtime success without a trace. Theres hughy lewis in the foreground who first started playing in this event back in the 1980s. You know this man, from middle valley, california, huey lewis jim he entertained the volunteers last night. From los angeles california, eric close. 10 handicap is huey, making it to sunday for the fifth time. Dd come on, now. That was for a birdie. And hell step up and try to pop that in for a net birdie. Huey was your partner back yesteryear at this event. Nick in the mid 1990s. He really struggled then when he played courses like cypress. Spyglass the par 4s there. They were long for these guys. Not as easy as today. Jim jim furyk now in her close in two and has a chance to climb town 17 under would put him in a tie for fourth with jason day and Dustin Johnson and pat perez. Nick usually when youve missed everything all day you make the one at the last. Jim come on. Ah ran out of steam. Hell have a final round 74. This is coming off a 63 yesterday. The alltime course record at pebble beach is 62 jointy tom kite david duval but both of those occasions lift clean, and pace. Today that 63 that jim furyk shot yesterday without benefit of putting your hands on it. Then again you see so many times a guy trying to back it up its a difficult thing to do. Lets see if we can give eric close a little highlight to take home with him. There you go. Matt jones will step up and have a little putt for birdie. Now, he was up at the pebble beach practice and teaching facility warming up for this round today and he was facetiming with his instructor back in australia watching him warmup. How about that . Got a finalhole birdie for 73. Nothing happening on that front side. And thats the only birdie of the day for matt. And the last shot of the tournament will be struck by huey lewis. There you go. Yes. Way to go huey. And way to go, brandt snedeker. In full control today of his game. We saw a nice little window into his emotions when it was all said and done. Brandt snedeker. Bigtime talent. Hes back as a winner on the tour. Seventh time overall. More to come. Congratulations to the whole family and good night from pebble beach.
