Gabrielle hill carter was an eightyearold girl just trying to get home from a Community Program around 8 30 wednesday night when she got caught in a hail of bullets on the 900 block of south eighth street in camden. Several armed suspects that appeared to be firing at an intended target which was not the little girl but she happened to be in the vicinity. Reporter as she frantically knocked on neighbors door for shelter gabrielle was shot in the head. Paramedics transported her to Cooper University hospital where doctors performed surgery. Her injuries were too much to overcome and she died friday night. This is a all handson deck line in the sand moment. Were pulling out all the stops to pull in the cowards that opened fire on this city block. Reporter authorities hope an increased reward of 24,000 will develop leads to get several dangerous people off the streets. And that tip line number is 215546tips. All right, trang, thank you. Hopefully someone comes forward. We have learned this evening that the couple found dead in their west deptford home yesterday was beaten to death. Autopsy results were released today by the Gloucester County medical examiner. 58yearold edward coles jr. And his wife 55yearold Rosemary Coles died of blunder force trauma to the head. Their son 28yearold ryan coles is in custody and has been charged in their deaths. Still no word on a possible motive. It is disturbing video of a near fatal punch. Tonight authorities are asking for the publics help to track down a suspect accused of attacking a man in lawncrest. Eyewitness News Reporter alexandria hoff is live at the scene with this new just released video. Alex. Reporter well, rahel, this incident happened in broad daylight as a man who was well known in the community and perhaps homeless was leaning up against this wall behind me. And Surveillance Video obtained by Eyewitness News showed other customers move out of the way as three men in their late teens or early 20s approached the man. Its unclear if words were exchanged but the man in white then punches the victim. Police describe the assault as random. We stopped the video there for the graphic nature of it but at that point the victim stagers into the sunlight and falls to the ground bashing his head onto the pavement. He is on life support right now. This all happened on the side of a Beer Distributor on the 700 block of adams avenue at lawncrest around 6 00 p. M. Yesterday. The perpetrator and the two males he was with fled the scene behind the rear of 700 adams in a westerly direction. Now, the person who threw the punch is described as a male, late teens, early 20s. He was wearing all white clothing. He was wearing a white tshirt, white basketball shorts, he was wearing white sox and white sneakers. Reporter a witness i spoke with saw the aftermath of this and said he walked desperately as emt officials tried to revive man. Once again he is on life support at this hour. All right, alex, very disturbing details. Thank you. A motorcyclist is dead after the rider crashed into a van in delaware county. It happened in springfield on the corner of East Springfield road and north brookside road around 5 00 this morning. The rider died at the scene. No one else was hurt and the cause of the crash is under investigation. Turning now to weather. We are seeing a return to the hot weather. Of course we started the weekend off above 90 degrees. Lauren casey joining us now in the cbs3 Weather Center with a look at the forecaster and lauren it certainly felt like to me lower humidity today. So thats good. Absolutely yeah. We had a steamy day. Today the humidity took a step back. Kicking off the weekend the right way at Rehoboth Beach right now. The beach is packed. If you like today tomorrow is going off much of the same. Temperatures are running above average right now, 89 degrees in philadelphia, were at 85 in millville but feeling pretty good in the poconos, temperature right now 77 degrees. Also feeling good, the drop in the dewpoints. The dewpoints foal about that sticky factor. Dewpoints hovering around the 60degree mark along the i95 corridor so after a steamy day yesterday not too bad feeling right now as we head into the day tomorrow, well kind of hover around this area maybe creeping up to middle 60s for dewpoints but certainly not oppressive humidity. So we can look forward to tomorrow, a nice day but even better as we head towards the end of the week. Getting a taste of fall as we kick off the month of september. Federal officials are considering a plan to install a device on new trucks and other large vehicles that would limit their speed to 68 miles per hour. Speed is a key factor in the growing number of traffic deaths in this country and according to a new report those deaths have surged 18 percent over the last two years. More than 200,000 trees right here in philadelphia could be facing extinction all because of an invasive beetle that has moved into the region anita oh has the story. Reporter you might not think about it. Its emerald green. Reporter the damage emerald ash bourse can create is huge. It kills a tree by overwhelming them with so many insects. Essentially these trees die from a thousand cuts. Reporter experts first discovered the insect near detroit michigan in 2002 and since then. Its been sort of slowly and steadily moving across the country. Reporter Research Confirms now the pests have arrived in philadelphia. One single female will create 180 larva that will bore into a tree. Reporter of the 3 Million Trees in philadelphia, more than 200,000 of them are ash trees but if those trees are left untreated experts warn the city wont have any left in a few years. So to help protect and preserve some of the citys ash trees,. Push in, give a little twist and then i open my valve. Reporter curtis helm of philadelphias parks and Recreation Department says his team started treating them with a chemical mixture. Treatment is little bit like chemotherapy for trees. Reporter so far the department has treated nearly 1500 ash trees in philadelphia. Now is the time act. Reporter and they urge homeowners to do the same. Once they die, they get brittle quite quickly and begin to shed large wood and large limbs and become dangerous. Reporter but saving them is about more than just saving their appearance. A pretty looking scene looking live at Center City Philadelphia on skycam3, dry conditions, a couple of high clouds and we are enjoying the dry conditions certainly conducive to our Outdoor Activity over the weekends but were falling pretty fall into a rainfall deficit at this point, down about three and half inches of rainfall in philadelphia, just into june 1st we may notice the grass getting a little crispy. We need the rain but not going to get it as we head into the evening hours just staying warm. 89 degrees your current temperature in philadelphia, 86 in wilmington, low 80s down the shore right now with some 70s as well as that sea breeze has kicked up, 78 degrees right now in ocean city, 77 at barnegat lighthouse. Down are our dewpoints. They tell us about that moisture content at the surface also how humid it feels. Yesterday was a very steamy day. You still may notice the humidity but it is more comfortable with that drop in dewpoints on the backside of a cold front that came through yesterday brought us a few showers sprinkles in the morning but storm scan3 showing us the trend of the day today quiet conditions, all across the region just a couple of passing high clouds. That is because High Pressure is in control off the eastern seaboard right now that promotes stable air sinking air and you notice that clockwise rotation although the shower and thunderstorm activity well up wind wraparound that high, that area of High Pressure keeping all that precipitation at bay. Overnight tonight mostly clear and mild only falling back to 69 degrees as we head into the day tomorrow, lots of sunshine once again. Fairly comfortable humidity levels, not too oppressive but a High Temperature still running above average at 89 degrees. Tropical storm gaston not going to be a direct impact to the United States but it could cause some pretty strong rip currents as we head into the next several days so thats something to keep in the back of your mind if youre heading down the shore. Also eyes on invest 99. We have been watching this system. Still pretty disorganized but as we head into the next couple of days atmosphere rick conditions like to be more conducive to its further development but for right now, it is still disorganized. The concern for gaston again not going to be a direct concern in the Delaware Valley but do watch out for strong rip currents if youre going down the shore, be sure to swim in front of a lifeguard because of those concerns. And invest 99 is going to not and be a threat to the Delaware Valley in the foreseeable future but potential the a threat to florida and the gulf coast and some of our forecast models we have been looking at over the last several days projecting this system could develop and then impact florida or even potentially up towards louisiana and the gulf coast, something we certainly do not wander to see as we know louisiana has been dealing with a flooding rain and are still working their way to dry out from those conditions but future rain showing us as we head into next week, hearty rainfall in and along the gulf coast especially for the florida peninsula. If you have vacation plans definitely want to keep a close eye on invest 99l but close eye on a lot of sunshine across the region tomorrow. Beautiful down the shore, lots of sunshine, 78 degrees with a nice sea breeze. Poconos nice sunshine comfortable conditions with a High Temperature at 82. And we are going to have a hot stretch of weather over the next several days. Big ridge of High Pressure in place keeping that heat around but check out wednesday and thursday and into friday. Cooler air spilling in from the north especially as we head into friday. Its going to bring us overall lower humidity values, lower temperatures and a nice taste of fall but for tomorrow, summer is still definitely in effect, a High Temperature at 90 degrees in the lehigh valley. 89 in philadelphia. But topping at 78 degrees with that nice sea breeze in wildwood tomorrow. Monday 91 degrees our next chance of just a very stray storm on tuesday. More humid conditions settle in. Some spotty storms on wednesday but still not the kind of coverage we need to bounce back from that rainfall deficit. Then by thursday, we are cooler and less humid with some of that cooler canadian air spilling in. Check out friday and saturday. 79 degrees. Wow. With low humidity.
