If you will remember earlier this week we were introduce todd this guy jack who saved his family from the burning home. Well in, this weeks pet project we will tell you steps you can take to protect your pets in the fire when back on the cbs3 pet project, Carroll Erickson animal activist with the spca is here. Good morning. Something is missing. There is normally more of you. Yes, is there usually something at my feet or on my lap but we are not having that today and it base because wonderful woman jill from the pennsylvania spca normally brings our pets in the morning , her own dog had a problem overnight so she had to go to the emergency vet which actually highlights, the importance of emergencies. They crop up. If you plan for them, they are less scary, but emergencies are going to happen and they will happen with your pets health, they can happen with fire which is our topic for today. But it is always good to plan so get pet insurance, know where emergency vets are and if you cannot get to what you normally to have do because your petties in an emergency situation take care of that pet. People understand. I think everybody understands why we dont have our adopted pet here. Absolutely. We have plenty of adoptable pets and they are at pennsylvania spca. I want to start and show you some of them as we normally to rahel. This is burrito, a super sweet twoyear old pit bull mix who came to the spca as a stray found walking by a Good Samaritan walking her own talk and this talk followed her home. She fell in love but she already had plenty of dogs, so the pennsylvania spca entrusted to the care and we will entrust care to the next person to do right by this dog the beautiful dog. Cute face. We will flip colors, take a look at this dog, skyler is a one yearold pit mix. It looks like a dog abandoned at pennsylvania spca in early january, probably people hoping that we can find her a good home. That is what we will do shes playful, energetic, shes just wonderful. If you love cats. I love that face. Ahh. If you love cats this is a wonderful one this is magic, shes orange, orange cats are really thighs. Domestic short haired cat friendly, social, she can become excited very quickly. So, you know, running around and find paper bag to get into so just some of the animals at pennsylvania spca. So cute. That need homes and want and deserve homes. But our topic is todays emergencies. Emergencies with your pets can happen in the same way they can happen with you. That is right. This week in philadelphia we saw a fire. It is not unusual in philadelphia. Three to four residential fires a day in philadelphia. So, since more than half of the house holds have pets, pets are involved in the fires as well. So a couple things that i think people need to take really close attention to, and first of all when we bring video up of jack, jack was able to save his owners life. Wow. Jackies a hero. Yes. That was the fire in the house on wednesday, he was able to bark and lick the owners face , the lomax family in the the grays ferry section, got four adults and five children out of that house, saved their lives, he was rescued by the red paw emergency relief, what an organization, philadelphia s so lucky to have them. They have taken jack on temporarily as his family is difficulties laced. He needs a place to go while family needs a place to go as well. Red paw emergency relief works with the red cross, they have helped jack, jacks the hero dog. He was in the house first of all so he could help his family, he alerted his tamly and he helped them. Probably instrumental in that entire family surviving that fire. He was able to get out, red paw emergency relief has them as well. Keep leashes on, colors on and have an emergency plan. In fires can happen. Keep candles way, stove tops that sort of thing. I say it seems like we take care of them but so often they take care of us too and that could not be a better example then that. Yes, hero dog jack and red paw emergency relief. We showed you three pets to adopt, those pets or any other pet we have here visit pspca erie avenue headquarters and we will post those hours, and see right here as well. Carroll, great to see you. So great to see you. That is it for Eyewitness News at 7 00 heres what we have at eight, thieves targeted a Jewelry Store in the the lawncrest neighborhood see what they have behind in the break in.
