Good morning, rahel, hi, everybody, we are going to be talking about the things you need to think about before you adopt a pet. Because, obviously, the pennsylvania spca, that is what we do. We adopt pets. I want to show you some of the animals. So just couple of them. So many more. But just couple that you may be want to go include in your house. Take a look at banks, banks is so interesting. Hes the odessa shelter resident. Hes ten years, ten months old, he was recently returned to the shelter, because his own her to go into an assisted living facility. This older gentleman is the staff and volunteer favorite. Hes got so much love to give. This is two month olds shepherd mix, she came to the pennsylvania spca. Look at this baby. Along with her siblings, she is so tiny. Shes under 10 pounds. But look at that face. Oh, wow. Isnt she darling . Again thats asha. And sprinter, cat lovers may love this one, too two year old Domestic Short Hair gray and white cat found as a stray on the streets of pennsylvania brought to the pennsylvania spca he loves to be petted and also chase after his toys. Great animal. Well have our usual onset pet coming up in just South Carolina but first i wanted to kind of turn back the clock to october the 30th when we had a dog named marvin on the set. I remember marvin. Yes, he loved your shoes. Yes. He has good taste. Lets take a look, lets talk about this beauty. Look at him. He is a terrier mix. He is six years old. And hes no one can figure out why he is still at the shelter. He was rescued from another shelter. And i want to tell you, im completely in love with this dog. Save me from adopt g him. I know. I love him. Well, nobody, nobody saved me from adopt g me. I ended up adopt g marvin. And here is marvin now. Hes my baby. I could not stop thinking about this dog. And so a week ago, i adopted him. You said it, you kept saying save me from adopt g him. I didnt want to save from adopt g marvin. Oh, i want to adopt all of them. But hes turned into wonderful dog. Wonderful dog before i got him. Waist at the shelter. Not like i cherry pick him. Just great dog at the shelter, that he was overlooked, a lot of black dogs are just overlook in the shelter. You know. How has he been so far . He has been spectacular. I want to show you a picture of marvin at home. Here he is. In his bed. Notice he loves to sleep with his toys. These are the kinds of things you dont even think about when you adopt a dog, that they have these personalities. See them in the shelter. And go oh, boy, that one jumps at the cage, but theyre desperate foray tension, you get them home. Their personalities blossom. He lovers to sleep with all of his toys around him. Feeling more secure once they feel comfortable . Yes, and there you have it. He has been absolutely wonderful. And couple of things that i want to bring out for other people. When you bring home, first of all, before you adopt, i thought long and hard about this, i am always thinking about adopt g dogs, but i thought how will this work with my older dog . What am i going have to do . What if my older dog doesnt like this dog . As far as im concerned, when you adopt, you have made a lifetime commitment. Right. And i will work with whatever i have to do if they had to be kept separate, thats what was going to happen. It would have been separate but equal. They got along after the first about 20 minute or so of, you know, just a little. Thats not east. I yes, no, that is, marvin, show your better side. Beautiful. Also, you need, when adopted you need to check your own behavior, not just your pets, because sometimes the people need training more than the dog does. So, you need quiet time. This is theyve been through stress, no matter how great the shell err is, and the pennsylvania spca is great. It is stressful time for a do. Dogs are social animals. They want to be in a home. So you cant over react to the things they do. It will take them a while to acclimate. He acclamated into my house really quickly. Yes. They wont all do, that but many will. Work with the adoption staff. Theyll know your lifestyle. Assess your own lifestyle. Do i have the time, the money, et cetera, to take on a dog of this size or this quality. Then carol should you also be thinking about how active of a lifestyle you have and how active the dog should be . Yes. And this dog has made me more active. Which im glad about. Right . Because im going on a lot longer faster walks now. So we will be doing over the next couple of weeks more tips, and they come to me, i know, im so happy were together, yes, and hes learning how to shake. So yes, but not tremble. Shake hands.
