We will be finding these temperatures today by 3 00 p. M. , they are at 83 degrees, thats close to our high. Probably 84, eight a degrees for the High Temperature today, and then we start to cool down little bit. Firefighters bat al three alarm fire at the Philadelphia Floor store on cold well lane. Cherry graying from cbs3 radio here with the details cherry . Good morning, nicole, more than dozen firetrucks, and dozens of firefighters have spent the past couple of hours or so battling the flames here at the Philadelphia Floor store. As you can see behind me, the building itself is pretty much destroyed. We got report of multiple explosions multiple collapse of ceiling here, i understanded there were chemicals inside of the Philadelphia Floor store which is 20 plus year old familyowned business. Now, firefighters tell me that this three alarm fire has brought firefighters from gladwynn conshohocken, whitemarsh, and plymouth. All here today to battle this flame. The biggest problem of course was getting water to the fire because of the location of where the fire is. It is not necessarily near any hydrants. But theyve put cord here, theyve brought in have been able to bring the water to the fire and have been able to put it out. While this building itself is pretty much assured there is good news, it is very close to homes, but none of the homes have been damaged at all. And none of the fire fight verse been injured at all. So while this fire has pretty much destroyed this long time familyowned business, the damage is at a minimum. And they expect that this building will of course at some point have to be torn down once theyre able to put out these flames, but theyve been here for at least since 4 00 a. M. , putting these flames out and so far so good. They seem to have been able to get the fire under control. New this morning row home goes up in flames in trenton, new jersey, the fire in the 700 block every Center Street started after 12 30. The fire reached two alarms before firefighters could get it under control. No one was injured in that fire. The cause is being investigated. A driver is killed when his truck slams into a Montgomery County school. Police have identified that driver as 32 year old philip andre, huntington valley. Crash happened at lower moreland high school. High School Janitor tells Eyewitness News reporter Steve Patterson that hes lucky to be alive because he happened to walk into another room, at just the right time. It was a matter of time. What took hours to pull out only took an instant to go in. It was bamm and out. School janitor dan fox said if that instant was just few seconds earlier he would be dead. If i was in there i would have been gone. No question. I saw enough, it blew it apart. Just a mess. Yes, i feel luck. I police say shortly before 2 00 this black pickup truck drove state no a wall at lower moreland high school. Eyewitness josh said he watched the car accelerate with no sign of braking. I saw a black truck. I saw a revving engine, just smoke coming from it, i heard it gun down the parking lot all the way down until i heard this gigantic wack. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Truck struck several water pipes in a electrical unit, causing flooding and cutting power to the high school. Less than minute away from changing dans life. I already thanked god more than once. The work now is speedy repair, not only patching up that hole you see behind me, but also fixing any flooding left over, and restoring power after what happened in this accident. In the meantime, no word yet on if school will start on monday, School Officials will make that decision sunday. Reporting from lower moreland, Steve Patterson cbs3 Eyewitness News. And now to the latest development in the amtrak tragedy, federal officials ordered amtrak to improve safety in the area of tuesdays deadly derailment in port richmond. Eight people were killed, more than 200 injured. Trucks were seen caring what appear to be bent Railroad Tracks away from the derailment site saturday. That area has been closed since the train went off the tracks. Amtrak says rail service between philadelphia and new york will resume on tuesday five crash survivors remain in Critical Condition at Temple University hospital. And the ntsb is interviewing a septa engineer who had something strike his train minutes before the amtrak crash. Hen a daniels with the latest. Reporter amtrak has agreed improve Safety Measures in its heavily traveled northeast corridor. The federal Railroad Administration is issuing an emergency order, requiring technology that will alert the engineer when a train is over the speed limit and automatically apply the brakes if the train doesnt slow down. Train 188 was traveling 106 miles an hour, more than twice the speed limit when it derailed tuesday. Engineer Brandon Bostian spoke to nfsb investigators friday. Hes going past the stop, he did that, he recalled doing. That will but he has no recommendation of anything past that. Fbi Forensic Experts will now analyze the damage to the engine windshield, after a crew member reported an object may have hit it seconds before the derailment. Two other trains traveling in the same area around the same time also appear to have been hit by something. Monica williams was on one of them. Her train came to a stop. This is a live look for you as firefighters bat al three alarm fire at the Philadelphia Floor store. That fire broke out on cold well lane around 3 00 this morning. This was the scene earlier as several explosions broke out inside that commercial building. Fire officials on the scene say the build something destroyed. There are no records of any injuries. Severe weather, Storm Chasers captured this video of reported tornado near elmer, oklahoma, part every strong storm system sweeping from nebraska all the way to texas. Officials say homes and businesses were damaged as the twisters tupped down there. There are no report of injuries, or death so some good news there. The National Weather service has issued a tornado watch for several counties. So sounds like theyre dealing with a heck of a time. Looking at a condition that is going to be like this, much of the day. That means weve got some clouds out there weve got warm temperatures out, there we can also factor in a shower and thunderstorm, as we move through the day. Now the boardwalk plaza area, Rehoboth Beach, you can see people are still out there striding around, purposely 69 degrees temperature there as well. And the gray skies are also in Rehoboth Beach. Sixtynine airport, six an in trenton, 68 degrees in wilmington, 61 up in the poconos, wildwood, 64 degrees. Comfortable morning though, if you like temperatures in the 60s and who doesnt . Firefighters there continue to battle a three alarm fire at the Philadelphia Floor store on cold well lane. Cherri gregg from our sister station, kyw news radio; live there at the scene with the details. Reporter good morning, nicole. The fire, the battle of this fire is far from over, as you can see behind me, dozens every firefighters are continuing to work to put out these flames, as you can see they have taken to ladders to get on top of the fire. And pump water into those flames. I understand theyve been here for the past couple of hours. And as you can see there they had the major problem was getting water to the fire, because of the location of this building, which is the Philadelphia Floor store. I was told by fire officials that chemicals inside the building caused multiple explosions excessive heat, eventually caused the roof to collapse inside of the building. As you can see, it is pretty much a shell at this point. And the fire continues to burn. I spoke to dave lucy, the plymouth township fire captain, and he toll me that their major problem was hooking up these hoses here, because the building itself is located in a very awkward location, which is several hundred feet from the nearest hydrant. So they had to put in this piping here, to get the water there, fire officials or fire fight remembers working in rotations, to try to keep pumping that water on this building. I will say that this is a 20 plus owned fire, this building is the Philadelphia Floor store. It is a 20 year plus familyowned business. It has been in this area of conshohocken during that time. So i understanded that this build something pretty much destroyed. But the good news is that the homes that are nearby, there seems to be no damage there and none of the firefighters have been injured. Eight people were killed and more than 200 injured. Crews are still cleaning up that scene. Trucks were seen scaring what appear to be bent Railroad Tracks away from the derailment site on saturday. The ntsb is interviewing a septa engineer, who had something strike his train just minutes before that amtrak crashed. Eyewitness News Reporter matt rivers spoke exclusively to an eyewitness, who was on that septa train when this all happened. We dont yet know what caused this damage. A septa Regional Rail train windshield cracked by a projectile on tuesday night. Monica williams was just a few rose behind the trains engineer when it happened. We hear this thud. And immediately im thinking, oh god we hit somebody. But it turns out something hit the train. The septa train came to a hard stop and the engineer opened his door. At some point he comes out, and you can see inside you can see the windshield splattered. Moment later, a as seen in this exclusive video obtained by Eyewitness News it, derails. Still feels surreal because the train had just passed us. A second train was also hit by a projectile, seen in this passenger photo. The amtrak train headed south from new york city to philadelphia, was struck in the same area, and shortly before the derailment. Now, investigators are trying to figure out if amtrak 188 was the third train that night that was hit by a projectile. The trains engineer told ntsb investigators he doesnt remember if his locomotive was hit by something, but this whole in the trains windshield is suspicious enough, that the f. B. I. Is now involved. Immediately i wonder if it is connected how often does it happen that the glass on your train is shattered and then the train we just saw with the tragedy. Even if the train was hit by a projectile, there is no telling yet whether that played a role in the crash. It is a question investigators will attempt to answer in the days and weeks to come. In the meantime, while that Investigation Continues repairs continue to be made along the damaged portion of that track officials best hope is that those rail lines can reopen to commuters sometime early next week. On saturday, federal officials ordered amtrak to add a speed restriction system for northbound trains, along that frankford curve where the derailment happened. And along other dangerous curves on the northeast corridor. System notified the engineer when a train traveling above the speed limit then automatically applies the brakes if the engineer doesnt respond. Amtrak must also post more speed limit signs to alert those engineers. Well, weve been hearing about just incredible stories of survival from that crash and on thursday one of the injured got a surprise visit from a special guest in the hospital. Then you never expect to be in one and it just happened so quick, i never thought it would happen to me or even close to home like this. Lenny and his wife at Hahnemann Hospital are feeling lucky even though he has four broken ribs, bruised lungs, a fractured spine, and a nasty leg injury. What casino of pain are you in . Im in extreme pain. Even to sit up. It is taking just few minutes to sit up. Any time somebody has more than three rib fractures three or more rib fractures, thats a significant injury.
