Yes, definately muggy morning for us this saturday morning, but it is dry, in the idea, there is no precipitation. Yes. Thats good newsment but our temperatures are still warm. Like we said, it is still muggy out there. And because of that, we are actually getting a little bit of fog that has now developed this morning. Moles of it is up into the Lehigh Valley, up into the poconos, as you take a look, at our broad heads ville camera here on our neighborhood network, you can see, off in the distance, a little bit of that fog, that is out there, down near close to the grounds, and even, as you kinds of look if the backgrounds, there are now getting a little bit of the lowlying cloud cover, little bit of fog that has developed. Again, most of our fog that were seeing here early on in the day is north of the city. But, it doesnt mean that we cant see some of this develop here in philly, or in the surrounding areas, especially, if our temperatures do maybe drop another degree or two before the sun does come up. You can see, down toward millville, through the pine barons of new jersey, wouldnt surprise me if we get a little fog. Allentown actually reported limited visibility down to 2 miles or so. So done prepare for the on at least some of the area roads this morning. And if you do encounter any of the fog, you just want to slow down, use the low beam lights instead of the high beams, youll be safe as you travel through t temperatures for the most part sit in the 70s out there, 76 degrees, here in fill, it is a very warm start to the day, our typical lows to start out the day here in the middle of august, well, it should be down into the high sixs, so definately well above that. It is seven open degrees, to start out in allentown, 74 wilmington, down toward millville. Seventyone as we kick off our saturday morning out in lancaster. Down near the beach, though, still staying on the mild side seventyfour through barnegat and ocean city, 75 this morning in cape may. Already alerts for drivers out on the roadways, start with the platt bridge eastbound, between 95 and 26th street. This is a pretty big headache here. All lanes are blocked due to Police Activity and traffic is forced to exit at islands avenue. This has been there for some time. No word on whether it is expected to clear. So just be cautious, coming around the turn to the area. No traffic is getting by at this time. And next, weve got construction 76 westbound, drivers who are familiar with this commute on weekends know this isnt going on for several weekends, and it is back, crews have right lane blocked starting city avenue all the way to the blue route exit. I came through this on my way to work this morning, i can tell you, you arent going to be able to see through this, several spots bringing traffic to stand still on and off and several crew members on there on the roadway, please be careful. Slow down, build some extra time into the commute this morning. Finally taking a live look at 95, at the blue route, looking clear, gorgeous there is morning, as well as the rest of your majors with the exception of the issues that we just mentioned. We are following breaking news this morning, the frank rizzo statue in center city has been the target for vandals all week long, now, a vandal has targeted the frank rizzo mural in the italian market. Thats where Eyewitness News reporter anita oh, is live this morning, so, what happened . Jan, this appears to continue to be escalating as you can see, overnight, this mural was vandalized, spray painted with the words kill, killer cop. Nearby, also seeing, shattered glasses of pink, all comes after the deadly violence in charlottesville last weekend. There have been renewed calls, including from public officials, to take down tributes to rizzo in the city. Hes the controversial former mayor and Police Commissioner here. And several times, this week, as you mentioned, jan, crews had to wash off vandalism from the rizzo statue outside of the City Municipal Services building. Few residents there stayed up all night, guarding the statue , to protect against further vandalism there, even ordering pizza. I just think it is a bad exam tonight set, if you dont like something, you get to just, i dont know, there is freedom of speech. And then there is whatever this is, this is not freedom of speech. Officer, sometimes assigned security detail at the Motor VehicleCommission Office in Washington Township. April 18th this year, the job got physical. There was a guy outside in the parking lot. He seemed like he was starting to fight with this other couple. I just tried to break it up. And the guy attack me, i guess looking for a fight. Officer said trying to arrest the man turned into an allout brawl. And when the man put his hands on officers throat, thats when the Motor VehicleAgency Workers returned to his aid. The officer was being attacked by in his neck. And he was trying to choke him and then we ran down and we tried to help as much as we could. State employees andre, david frazier, and ryan armstrong, wrestled the men off officer. We basically tried to keep him on the ground, so he couldnt hurt anyone else. The suspect Peter Strickland charged with assault and resisting arrest, these men are being honored. Oftentimes people run from problems, some people run to problems, and we call those people heroes. We felt the need to come here today and recognize them for having the courage to step forward and come to an officer s aid. They each received Police Citations of merit and special coins. As well as a thank you from officer. You think youre alone out there but youre not when you have people like this looking over you. He said he and his co workers were doing their civic duty to help. Six are shot, and one of the incidents turned deadly for police. Also ahead part two. Tori is talking astrology. She still has six signs to go over. A vie event flight in pennsylvanian florida, has claimed the life after Law Enforcement officer and left five other wounded. In kiss me, first, about 23 miles south of orlando, investigating an area known for drug activity, fourth suspect opened fire. The shooting killed officer, matthew baxter, and seriously wounded sergeant sam howard. All but one of the suspect are now un arrest, and the police chief there, says the officers had no time to return fire. These were beloved fathers, husbands, sons, and so with are doing information our power to support them, the families, get them through this time. One in critical condition, the other is in stable condition. That suspect was shot to death , when police returned fire. And in western pennsylvania, now, a shooting in Fayette County ended with two state troopers wounded and a suspect dead. Poconos, it is a foggy start to the day. 80 degrees later this afternoon, but again, what it looks like right now, outside, we have a lot of lowlevel moisture, and temperatures have dropped just low enough, as you head up into the poconos, and that asks a foggy foggy start to the day. Getting limited visibilities, the further north you go. And even getting around allentown maybe around two or so miles visible. So again, do be careful this morning driving around on the area roads, if youre up north of the City Temperatures today up in the poconos, up into the 80s, look for the afternoon sunshine, after the cloud cover, and the foggy necessary here this morning clears out. Now, a passing shower, north of the city; not completely ruled out either. We have a weak kind of system thats going to be coming through call it trough. Weak boundery that will be pushing through the Lehigh Valley and the poconos could maybe pop off a shower maybe isolated dollars rumble every thunder. No big chance for that. 88 degrees down at the shore, decreasing cloud cover for you , remains warm, muggy. Water temperatures all the way up to 77 degrees now at this point. Taking a look down to the tropics, Tropical Storm harvey still spirals south of north america, moving into the caribbean, doesnt look like it will strengthen outside of a Tropical Storm. It should remain as it moves toward the mexican coastline. But of course, still keeping an eye on it, and few other areas of concern, we have 30 chance of development with the wave thats now moving out into the open ocean, and another chance for 40 chance hereof development in the next five days. , for another system we will be keeping an eye on this one, little bit more, because it will be moving toward the car bee and islands , back up toward the florida coastline too. So we will be keeping an eye on that cluster of thunderstorms to see if it does develop into anything. Future weather for today, clearing skies, throughout the day. By 8 00 or so, there is our small chance for maybe a shower to develop up into the Lehigh Valley, again, that weak boundery comes on through ment besides that, though, through the rest of the overnight hours into tomorrow morning, it is clear, it is comfortable, finally on our sunday, as well, look for some lower humiditiment monday looking pretty good, clear skies for the eclipse. Future dew points today, they remain in the 60s, do you see some 70s down in south jersey so still little muggy for our saturday. Looking at sunday though we get some 50s out there, still low 60s, but i think overall it will be a better day for us on sunday, and then monday it still remains comfortable, specially compared to what weve had. 88 degrees, sunday, sunshine, bigger thing the lower humidity. Again, very, very muggy, here in center city this morning, and really across the end can you entire Delaware Valley we start out this saturday morning, looking at the muggy and humid conditions little cloud cover hanging around from time to time as well. But, the clouds are going to move out. And the mugginess will eventually get better. But really doesnt get whole lot better until we get into sunday, to go along with the clouds here this morning, we will see little bit of maybe isolated areas of some patchy fog. So do be careful if youre north of the city up through the Lehigh Valley, to Central New Jersey, as well, few reports thereof alia little bit of fog that has develop. Careful driving around. After it clears out, it will be hot afternoon temperatures up near 9 degrees, and again like i said that mugginess sticks around for our saturday afternoon before it gets little better headed into sunday. In decades. And the rush is onto get glasses to view that event safely. But, as Eyewitness News reporter greg argos shows us, if you dont have a pair by now, you may be out of luck. Whats happening this monday . I have no idea. The eclipse. Oh, yes, the eclipse, yes. Here in the Delaware Valley region were only going to see whats called partial Solar Eclipse. Even so Franklin Institute chief astronomer, derrick pits , 08 of the sun will be covered by the moon here in our region. And when the eclipse begins in the early afternoon monday many will be looking skyward. Do you have your special glasses in. Thats it. Doctors say thats not enough. It might be true, but thats all i have for now. Maybe ill go shopping later. Eclipse glass also hard to come by. We gave few hundred pairs out. Ive excited. Im real excited. Got my glasses, im ready to go. And aid few extra. I feel like they might look so cool, that i would have to wear them every day. But stores which carried them last week leak the lowes on columbus boulevard, now cleared out. Stores in jersey may still have some in stock. If you cant finds a pair, may want a lunch trip to the Franklin Institute. Youll be able to see it directly either through filler telescope or telescope projection methods. So make sure to listen to your favorite station for the details. Well, most of us are looking at the sun, penndot is making sure drivers Pay Attention to the roads on monday. So starting monday morning, penndot will have special messages, on roadways, reminding you of what is happening. Penndot says, keep your eyes on the road, folks. Continue driving to your destination, and dont let the eclipse distract you. Our overhead Message Boards are going to have signs on them reminding people there is a Solar Eclipse, and reminding them that theyre not allowed to stop on the roadways. I know, this is all common sense, but we need to remind you, penndot also reminds drivers, as you heard, that you cannot pull over on interstates, and limited access highways, unless it is an emergency. And a lot of people are hitting the road for the event theyll be looking for the best seats to watch the Solar Eclipse, and that means, higher gas prices. Thats right. Those increases will happen along the eclipses path of totality. Those are the areas where the moon will completely cover the sun. The path runs from the northwest, to the southeast, and those are the areas people are now flocking to ahead of mondays eclipse. Eye hoe also big gas increases from this week alone. Parts of oregon in the path of totality, Portland International airport is expecting to see thousands of eclipse visitors, fly in this weekend, the entire state expecting a million sky gazers , from out of town alone , and many people say theyre worried about travel on the monday, on monday, after the eclipse. The tsa have advising people to get to the airport two, three hours earlier, specially on tuesday. And oregon is the only state in the path of totality for the eclipse where Recreational Marijuana is legal. In salem the joint on market says it has seen huge spike in business this week, more than 50 , in fact, theyre staying open extra hours this weekend, to keep up with eclipse demand but they warn, under oregon law, you cant use recreational pot in public places. A lot of the people, they dont really have a place to go, so theyre going to be doing it discreetly where they considering i can guarantee that. The county sheriffs offers is not specifically targeting marijuana violations, in public places. Many of your routines are about to change, we have some advice on getting back to school and back to that routine in a healthy way. Stephanie stahl has more on make that transition easier. With summertime sadly winding down, kids headed back to school. Doctors say one of the most important things to do is adjust their bed time routine. Easier to make yourself wake up than it is to make yourself fall asleep. If youre not tired youre not going to fall asleep. But what i would suggest the parent, to slowly wake them up , earlier, to mover them toward that school wake up time. Before kids head out the door, be sure they eat breakfast, even something small. Doctors say, a bit of protein, like yogurt, will keep them fumier longer. A lot of kids will start to get headaches, or feel tired midmorning, if they dont have something to eat. Also found it helps with their concentration, if they have something for breakfast in the morning. For lunch, some protein is also recommended things like particular, peanut butter, fruits, vegtables, for drinks. I dont want the kids drinking any casino every juices, or sports drinks, or anything that has a lot of sugar in it. Really looking for kids to be drinking milk or water with their lunches. And for smacks, fruits, veggies, are best. Doctors say avoid crackers or pretzel, because carbon hydrate smacks arent as filling. Doctors also say back to school is a is a good time to think about vaccinations, to make sure your child is fully vaccinated for their age. Im stephanie stahl, cbs3, Eyewitness News. Turning now to weather back here at home, matt, the Solar Eclipse on monday, our weather looking pretty good that day, too . It is. It looks like well have clear he skies at least couple every days out right now. Thats what it looks like, so we keep our fingers crossed, we can keep those good conditions coming for the beginning of the weekends. Of course for the eclipse, as well, our eyewitness weather watchers im sure hoping for nice weather monday, im sure take great pictures, temperatures out there that are in the 70s, but lots of great pictures, on this saturday morning. So lets get right to. That will phil has couple of good ones here to start out the day. This one just from couple every minute ago. Hes looking out to the east, great pink skies out there, the clouds are already starting to break up a little bit so thats good news for us continue to see the clouds diminish going through the day , educated has little fog out there in kind of north Central New Jersey, so this morning, looking at little bit of that. So if youre out on the area roads to start the day, be care full, could you run into fog. Out in jersey then also little bit north of the city as well. Then lou had his drone out to start the day. Hes got some sunrise pictures over top of some lower clouds out in montgomery county. Nice start to the day if you get outside, maybe snap a picture, because again, it is a wonderful morning to do so. Temperatures yesterday, they were in the 90s here in philly we got all the way to 91 degrees, officially, the same for wilmington, came in at 19, reading, too, lots of 80s out there, as well, so in general just warm and muggy friday for us before our front came through and gave us some of the showers and thunderstorms. Looks like another hot day today. High temperature we get up to 09 degrees. Our average high this time of year. Eight a. So once again above average. Check this out. We get into september and october. Then temperatures topping out around average anyway in the middle of september right around 74 degrees. And by the time we get toward october 19th, were looking for high temperatures that peak generally right around 63 or so. So were definately getting into that time frame. Where we are thinking at least anyway about some cooler weather, that will be eventually coming just around the corner. Temperatures again, today going to be warm, right now, it is relatively clear. But we will be seeing definitely some cloud cover to start the day out, but again, clearer skies going through the daytime hours. Do have weak trough. This is a weak surface boundery, thats still off to the north and west, not the main front. The main fronts came through yesterday. We will watch tore this to drop into the region though as we go throughout the afternoon and then into the early evening hours today. What that means is actually couple of maybe stray showers could be possible for us, especially, north of the city. As we get little bit later on toward the evening. By 7 00, though, this morning, again, still looking very nice for us across the entire Delaware Valley. 8 00, 9 00, weak boundery, weak trough comes through, so could fire up few spotty showers, maybe a very, very isolated rumble every thunder, up through the Lehigh Valley, maybe toward the poconos. Thats the only place that we really see any precipitation today or even have chance foreseeing any precipitation, the rest of us, new jersey, delaware, and across the immediate area here in philly looking at dry weather. Tomorrow morning, we wake up to clear skies. On our sunday, it is going to remain sunny throughout the entirety of our sunday afternoon, then even as we head into monday morning, looks like quiet drive to work looks like it will be a nice afternoon. On monday, as well. Forecast high temperatures across the area here, for our saturday, looking for 90 degrees, once again, this afternoon, here in philly. Some 80s as you head back down toward the beach, lancaster comes in at 84, same for reading, allentown, wilmington will peak at 87 later this afternoon. Eyewitness weather we get to 88 degrees tomorrow after the 90s today. Not as humid on our sunday, good news for us, clear skies for the eclipse monday. Going to keep our fingers crossed the forecast holds true, and then we could see some clouds and some shower activity, jan, move in as we head towards the middle of the week. Matt, thank you. It is a philly classic that is now making a come back. And to do it the brands is going back to basics. Were talking about horn and hard art, remember them, more than 100 years ago the business revolutionized the way people ordered and ate but their coffee that was a household favorite. Now one local family hopes horn and hardart will once again be the first thing you think about when you wake up in the morning. A familiar name with a whole new look, but look at this coffee inspiration, you have to go way back. In fact, the original is gone. Here at eighth and chestnut, this is all that remains of horn and hardart auto mat, simply sign every by gonner a, the memories that are still fresh for alan dawn. I used to go to the horn and hardart with my grandmother. Probably the only restaurant i knew until i was a teenager, was the automatic. Thats where we went. Founded in 188 by phil i native it, the restaurant used coinoperated glass and chrome vending machines, to dispense food and drinks. Horn and hardarts technology, revolutionized the food industry. Really was precursor to fastfood if you will, it was inexpensive, high quality, very clean quality environment the auto mat became the place to see and be seen, with celebrities like audrey help bern. Dozens every auto mats if philly, they became even more popular in new york. With close to 150 restaurants, between the two cities. Today you can still finds some of the original signs and other memorabilia at the philadelphia history museum. And on this menu, in the upper righthand corner, what would become known as the business of specialty. They gained their reputation through the coffee. After 20 minutes, if there was any coffee left, they dumped it and did a fresh pot. Not only was it made fresh, h and h introduced the first fresh coffee to philly it, helped rescue the business from bankruptcy in the 19 90s, but by that time the recipe no where to be found. So for more than five years, work to recreate the famous strong yet smooth coffee blends. First by tracking down where the beans came from, through decades old shipping documents , and then, the truely time consuming part. I had an easy job. I only had to taste about 240 different coffees. And then blends them together again. This is the result, the original blends now called the liberty roast, decaff, k cups, horn and hardart, zen brought to this century bit of nostalgia in a cup. Pretty involved, to be involved with something thats part of so many peoples lives so, more blends are in the works. Coffee is the focus for now, but will the auto mat ever make a come back . Mugginess goes away on our sunday, after we get to the 90s, today we get to 88, tomorrow, still plenty of sunshine both days, good news for us, again, humidity drops on our sunday, then of course all eyes then turn to monday, hoping to continue, jan, with the clear conditions, on monday afternoon, because all eyes will be looking up at the eclipse. And then another chance for some showers, maybe rumble every thunder as we head into wednesday, thats when another thunderstorm, you know, another colds front actually comes rolling through. So, do you have your glasses ready . I do. Ready to go . One for myself, one for my husband, we will go on the rooftop, look at the Solar Eclipse, should be good time. I have a couple. My mom wanted some, myself, my girlfriends, so i think well try to snap a picture. Dont break your camera, though. No. Special lens.
