Neighbors in one Chester County community are dealing with dirty water, flowing into their homes, some say they lost Water Service completely. They say that an oil pipeline, sunoco is building to blame. Eyewitness News ReporterHenry Rossoff went looking for answers to address the water concerns. Reporter nearly everyone in this Chester County neighborhood is now using bottled water, some even being put up in hotels, after a drilling incident with sunoco s oil pipeline is creating issues with local water wells. West whitelandis type of place where deer grazed their way through the neighborhood but now it is just as common to see these oil pipeline alongside homes. You could not see anything, completely dark. David motto says this sunoco recently contaminated local water wells. A few homes who water completely and only after people complained that the company did deliver water and offer hotel rooms. They should have contacted us so we could have two weeks ago and they poke a hole in the well. Reporter spokesmen says it is investigating and testing local water. He also says that the state department of Environmental Protection was notified. We did see private contractors for sunoco working with neighbors today and some like debbie, who spent last night in the hotel room even defend the company. They are doing best they can for situation were in. I have no problems. Reporter but motto and others remain skeptical, he sent this darker brown batch of what ther from his well out for private testing because he feels sunoco is misleading the community. How come it took so long to notify us that they wreck our wells. Reporter there have been issues this project in Delaware County as well. It is friday that means it is summer fest and tonight we are out in berks county. Ukee washington is in kutztown for 68th annual folks festival there and you guys are having a ton of fun, ukee. Reporter way too much fun, way too much fun but it is a great time for everybody who is here, no doubt about that and it continues, up until 8 00 oclock tonight as a matter of fact. Fun will continue. Kutztown folk festival has been going on for decade. Nine Day Celebration of dutch culture. It is also giving visitors a hands on way, a hands on way to learn everything about it, check it out. Goats. Horses. Chickens. Shoe fly pie. Burch beer. Of course, hand made ice cream all part of the kutztown folk festival a celebration of the dutch ingenuity and history in rural pennsylvania. The festival started in 1950 by three professors from franklin and Marshall College in lancaster, pennsylvania. They chose kutztown because they felt it was most ideal town that signified or represented the pennsylvania dutch culture. Reporter now in the 68th year festival features 200 traditional craftsman working on live demonstrations and six stages of entertainment, showcasing the dance and music of the cull tour. In 68 years, the festival, has exploded. There was a three day presentation that tracked approximately 25,000 people, it didnt take long for it to grow into the current format that we have today of nine days and we have attracted annually 130 to 140,000 people each year. Reporter it is not just attende whose get excited during festival time patrick, is a dutch history expert and a skilled, hex sign painter who returned year after year. You will find these designs all over the rural landscape of berks county. Highest concentration is within 40 miles of the kutztown. So kutztown, pennsylvania is actually the epicenter geographically of the tradition of decorated barns. Reporter dons beautiful signs can be seen all over the festival. In the end, they will help the Community Keep thriving. At end of the week we will auction all of the designs that we do and all proceed will support Cultural Program at Kutztown University. I got my start tapping burch beer and sarsaparilla wagon and operating our burch distillery. Now you are organizer running it all. Who would have ever thought doing a great job. What is new for visitors have not been here is what new. That is trick after 68 years you want to keep that continuity but have something new each year. We have the Library Museum for montgomery county. They are doing a, presentation so for the guys, so to speak we have one of the biggest theme portable engines ever made, a steam engine is down right behind us. That is firing up operating antique equipment each day. Really cool. How do you keep people coming back. I know you mentioned great attraction. Year after year, summer after summer it gets larger and larger. It started in 1950. 1950 started as a three day event attracting approximately 25,000 people and very quickly grew into a nine day format attracting 150,000 people. What do people get out of this festival when they leave and get in the car in the parking lot what do you want them to remember about their experience. I want them to have an experience like no other and i think we have not who sight of that pennsylvania dutch theme here at the festival. Our visitors make connection was our craft man with our entertainers and that is really important and it is a community aspect. We always say were family here at the festival. They say it is important to keep the food and true to the airan keep at lee 12 to 14 craft brews on tap at all time all made from local hobs. Not only was the beer delicious, but, i used it to do very seldomly, one of the best things i have ever haddon taste with tori in general was proceeding i fries. Reporter roughly 10 miles outside kutztown is a giant hole in the ground but one with a beautiful arrangement of stone and sediment this is crystal cave. Crystal cave was discovered november 12th 1871 by 2 farmers john garrett and William Merkel and they were basically searching for money to use as fourth reiser on their field. Reporter after blasting open the entrance garrett and merkel unveiled a whole new world. So we went inside to rock out. Like Indiana Jones in here. Reporter one of the first things is ice cream cone. This is a texture on the ceiling. They are formed by drip stone. Reporter as we continued our trek in the earth where temperature topped out in the 50s rock creation where is numerous. But watch your head. This is something called flow stone. Where as, the rocks form by dripping water. Flow stones by flowing water so it slows down the wall. Reporter natural growth can take up to 500 years for just 1 inch. The name crystal cave coming from the crystallized salt along the wall but as you continue on there are so many amazing formations like lake inferior. And how deep is lake interior . About three and a half inches deep. One of the not so great lakes. Well, that is it, yes. Report perhaps oldest of all rock formation is the totem pole. It is a column, remember that is what a might and tight meet, and according to scientists it is half a million years old.
