Reporter Rebecca Pearl at penn center for weight and eating disorders did research with 159 obese people, they worked with a weight bias internal says scale which is when people believe, negative stereotypes. We found that people who had the highest weight bias internal says scores had three times greater odd of having metabolic syndrome and six times greater odds of having, high triglycerides. Reporter researchers say those health risks were above and beyond those associated with obesity and that when people feel shame because of their weight they are more likely to avoid exercise and consume more calories, to cope with the stress. It is important, for example when providers are discussing weight with their patients to be sensitive to this issue.
