Reporter that is right these fall leaves are beautiful to look at but they can be very slick when you add in some rain, and become very dangerous, look at this lining ice to drive on. We are driving on delancey street in philadelphia and cbs3 mobil weather lab. You can see leaves now falling on the ground. It is wet too. Good idea toys slow things down there will be more leaves over next few weeks. And, because of these wet roads it can make braking, stopping and steering very tricky. It is a slippery combination, dead leaves and rain, my photographer and i took a ride to the automotive expert george pullgar and rain was falling, visibility was affected and roads were wet. It is raining, windy, leaves are starting to drop off the trees. What do you have to worry about when driving. They are soaking wet and it is just creates kind of a friction onless environment between the surface of the road and your tires. Reporter and that could quickly cause to you lose control if you are speeding or if you stop quickly. If you are going around the curve dont go faster than 20 miles an hour. Every year more than 959,000 crashes are caused by wet pavement, and injuring hundreds of thousands of people and killing more than 4700. Most dangerous time for drivers is when the the storm starts. It is at the very beginning, and when the rain just begins to fall because then the moisture, and the humidity starts acting with the oil that is on the surface of the roads that is left by, cars, tires, and traveling over it and that creates a really slick condition that you really cant see it. Wet leaves also cover up markings on the road and can keep you from seeing how wide your lane is or whether or not you can pass other vehicles. In the next couple weeks more and more leaves will fall, and current leaf drop report is maryland rate but will soon become high as we speak in fall color but todays rain will clear up making beautiful leaf viewing conditions this weekend, we are currently peeking in the poconos, have high color in the northwestern suburbs and maryland rate color around philadelphia. And those leaves are starting to change right now here in center city, lot of leaves are on the sidewalk but even starting to fall in the roads as well so just keep that in mind when out driving. Now another good tip toys change or replace your tires if they are warn out and keep them inflatable enough that you will get more traction outside on the roads. Will this rain end or see better driving conditions . For their forecast we will send it back to you in the studio. Justin, no we will not. More wet weather will be occurring.
