Well, they have lured in customers with promises of low, and competitive electricity rates. But then, this winter saw some of their bills increase by 300 percent. Three on your side consumer reporter jim donovan has been following this since the beginning and youve got some new information. Reporter indeed, Pennsylvania Attorney Generals Office and office of consumer advocate filed joint complaint against five out of state electricity suppliers claiming that the Companies Engaged in deceptive marketing. Jamie davidson was shocked to see his mothers electric bill, jump more than 500 in a month. It was so high compared to what she had been previously charged for services. Reporter rate charged by her electric supplier, pennsylvania gas and electric, went from, 11 cents per kilowatt hour in december to over 28 cents in january. Their response was that it was, because of the high demand and the cold, winter, so far. I was hoping a mistake had been made. Reporter rate at whiz janet and adam johnson were billed at tripled too. The rate their supplies ib t Energy Charge jumped from 6 cents to 17 cents a kilowatt hour over the course of the month. Everything was good at first because of the two years and then we got this bill. Reporter thousands of pennsylvania residents who received their electricity through Third Party Suppliers saw big rate spikes this winter. Now the Pennsylvania Attorney general and office of consumer advocate is seeking to suspend or revoke the licenses of pennsylvania gas and electric, idt energy, respond power, hyco power and blue pilot energy. State alleged that the Companies Engaged in violations of Consumer Protection law and of the public utility code and prices charged werent reflective to the price served to cost electricity needs. The Attorney Generals Office received 42,000, phone calls, about high electricity bills, and over 7500 people filed complaints. State wants the company to pay Civil Penalties and provide appropriate restitution, including any necessary refunds. We will continue to follow them. Eye opening bills. Exactly. Now to a tragedy on the ac expressway. Two people killed, four others injured, thrown from their pick up when it flips over on the expressway. This accident happened this morning near exit number 22 in hamilton township. Investigators say that three people were in the cab of the truck, three people in the bed of the truck when it overturned. Thirtyfive yearold james dennis, and the four yearold girl died in that crash. Of those injured one is in critical condition, three others are in serious condition. The actor Tracie Morgan is out of the hospital, tonight, and at a rehab facility. His publicist says morgan is expected to remain there for the the next few weeks. He was critically injured in the multi vehicle crash the on the new jersey turnpike that killed his close friend, james mcnair. Well, police have identified the man hit and killed in the hit and run in bensalem but they need your help to find the driver. Crime scene tape was wrapped around the the property a few blocks from where Vincent Perry was killed last night. Pennsylvania leads the nation, in the number of structurally deficient bridges, this is one of them, this Spring Garden street bridge. Now a multi milliondollar project is about to get underway here to repair this bridge, but as one bridge in pennsylvania is repaired, yet another falls into disrepair. It is just latest casualty in pennsylvanias crumbling infrastructure graterford road bridge over Perkiomen Creek closed to the nearly 3,000 drivers, who use it every day. It doesnt seem to be any warnings that this would happen. Frustrating surprise to not only those behind the wheel but to businesses nearby. They use this road every day, half of my customers basis from this way. Penndot closed the 60 yearold bridge in the perkiomen township after inspectors noticed exposed steel beams, deck detear racial and 2 feet deep hole but thinks one example of the close to 500 structurally deficient bridges in the southeast philadelphia region. Good news once you get to the Atlantic City expressway it does pick up just a bit. Lets take a look where else we are seeing volume. Obviously southbound 42 as we have seen there but southbound on 47, traveling delsea drive. Speaking of on the northbound side of 47, at green tree road, we are dealing with the gas main break and because of this it is closed, and 322 would be your best alternate. As we take a look at your wide, Speed Sensors on this friday night are not great, 12 is your average on the schuylkill and look at the pennsylvania turnpike, if you are maybe having plans to head on the northbound side of the extension to spend a weekend at the poconos we are finding lots of volume on the eastbound pennsylvania turnpike between valley forge and mid county toll plaza.
