Reporter in the end, she says what is most important. Just vote. Reporter the two candidates will face off in the last president ial debate on wednesday, ahead of the election, on november 8th, live from city hall, anita oh for cbs3 Eyewitness News. It is one of the most closely watched and most Expensive Senate race in the nation and there is a reason for all that attention. The race between republican senator Patrick Toomey and democrat Katie Mcginty could determine which Party Controls u. S. Senate. Toomey was elected in 2010, he served three terms in the house of representatives ape was previously working in the Financial Services sector. Mcginty was most recently governor tom wolfs chief have of staff. She served as secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the rendell administration, and as chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality during the clinton administration. I talk with both of the candidates about a lot of issues and we will begin tonight with the debate over gun control. Reporter Mass Shootings continue to hit the United States, the debate over gun control, grows more fur vent with each tragedy. In 203 senator Patrick Toomey co sponsor the amendment, extended background checks on all gun sales, including guns by gun shows and over the internet with the exception for sales between family and friends. The amendment has now failed twice. Would you support that legislation, that type of legislation. I would, and unlike senator toomey, i would stick with it. The senator at one time three and a half years ago lent his name to another senators bill, better than nothing but not much. Look, i take this on in a way that find Common Ground that americans want to see common sense things done, like criminals, of course, we need background checks there. Close loop holes that currently exist that allow even terrorist to buy guns. I reached across the aisle because i think my party is wrong in thinking that we cannot close background check loop holes. Reporter mcginty has earn the endorsement of ceasefire pennsylvania, toomey has been endorsed by Political Action commit thee led by Michael Bloomberg and another led by arizona congressman gabby giffords, shot in the head at an event in 2011. There is no contradiction in supporting the Second Amendment and wanting to do a background check to make sure dangerous criminals, dangerously mentally ill people and terrorist are not able to buy firearms. Reporter in the streets of philadelphia we have seen protesters demanding an increase in the pennsylvania minimum wage. There is a lot of talk about raising a minimum wage, you come out, against that, walk me through why you are against that. It is simple, one of the most fundamental basic rules of economics is if you make something more expensive you will get less of it. The way to help lowering income workers get higher wages is to try to pass a fee on to the government to force it but to help people get more skills, more education. Actually, all of the evidence is to the contrary of what senator tomb i has said and he has been an opponent of giving people a raise. That works maybe for bosses but it doesnt work for average families. But in our economy raising the minimum wage boosts the economy because 70 percent of Economic Activity the is consumer purchasing power. So putting more money in the pockets of consumers drives economic growth. Coming up at 6 00 top of the ticket looms large for mcginty and tumor we will talk to him about donald trump and Hillary Clinton. Toomey and mcginty will go head to head right here on cbs3 monday night at 7 00 p. M. We will have full coverage and reaction, for you on Eyewitness News at 11 00.
