The bottom of your screen, also, on line at cbsphilly. Com. We have live team three coverage for you, of the wet they are morning. Steve patterson in Montgomery County, and well check in with meteorologist Carol Erickson in the mobile weather lab in a moment. First the latest with meteorologist Katie Fehlinger in the Weather Center for us this morning. As you mentioned nicole, yes, weve seen decent snowfall totals already from the storm. As we had been talking about all week it came in a with a punch of moisture, some really good moisture with this storm. So it doesnt really matter what kind of precipitation you find, it will be coming down heavily whatever it is. So, you can see all of the activity over my shoulder. I want to take you back in time here, see how weve done thus far already half foot has fall never Fleetwood Perkasie shy of half foot of snow as we mentioned moment ago glenn moore, over 3 inches, the list goes on in philadelphia, we ended up with a inch so far. But, now were starting to see that change over, we showed you on storm scan a second ago, see that there is a little back edge, while in the last three hours the entire region was just covered in moisture now weve got this little back edge, so, it is not that the storm is completely pulling away, but the brunt of it, basically moving through, in the last few hours it will continue to do so in the next few so if youre just waking up with us right now you might be finding Something Different than what was actually happening in the last few hours, see the mix thats starting to take place up toward the Lehigh Valley, but where you have had the snow falling the longest it, makes sense, youre going to find some decent snowfall totals. One more zoom out for you here to show you that back edge of the main brunt of the system here, but we still need the whole storm to get out of here. Thats going to take little bit of time. Not out of the woods yet. I can tell this much, the brunt is happening now and it will generally only get a little bit better as the day progresses. But, you know what, regardless, it is slick travel and slow going out there with Winter Weather alerts all over the northern half of the region mainly rain to the south, it will slow you down, too, the shade of pink here, you have winter storm warnings, thats specifically through the north and western suburbs, also, where you are finding the highest snowfall totals. Certainly as we go through the day well continue to track maybe even little more add on to the totals. We do want to get a check with the eyes on the ground here, see how things are looking outside. For that we will continue our team three coverage, sends things out to meteorologist carol err soak many busy morning, i think, miserable erickson, thousand looking where you . Im glad everybody got in safely these roads are a mess, i know everyone in the studio encountered it, so many at home probably on their way out the door. They are going to be finding wet roads now. Youll find slush temperature in the mobile weather lab right now 33 degrees, through here on the admiral wilson boulevard at the present time. The water is deep. Weve seen plows coming in. They are pushing water. And what remains of the snow out of the way. But if have ever want add boat your car becomes a boat today. The standing water and some of these roads and major roads through 38 where theyve put so much salt and brine and that sort of thing, and just about to come over the rise here again remember how difficult these evaluated surfaces can be. You can probably see out there, that this snow is still on the sides of the road here. The air underneath, it is colds and thats where you real can i run into a lot of problems. We get on route 38, so heavily traveled, but the road is on the ground it elevated surface, so you will find a loft water going by, any car that goes by you will absolutely swamp your vehicle. Ive found that a number every times coming in today. I pick up in Burlington County about two and a half inches of snow out there. It was the slush turned over into generally more rain, but as you see as we are driving along here now on just about to get to the juncture every 07 and 38, you can see that the roads are soaking wet. Where is the snow . I dont see any of it out here. It is not falling now. Right now in fact not even getting any rainout here. But the rain has fallen, the snow has fallen, and melting has gun from either the brine the salt or just these temperatures that are starting to warm just a little bit. Expect unbelievably changing Road Conditions in just about any time. Notice this sign. Use caution. Road work. Yes, the next 7 miles youre going to be finding a lot of mess. We go through underpasses like there is half the time your gag to be hitting some water. So just how many times do we say it in a storm but i know that my photographer, this morning, driving, out in collegeville his car was fishtailing, than sort every thing. Took him a long time to get in from there. So the heavily traveled roads take it easy on those too and the side streets and your own walkway, sidewalk, also a mess. And just try and take it easy and bring those pets inside, it is way too wet and colds and miserable for them outside as well. So thats the way it looks right now. Nicole, as we crews through pennsauken on our way to Burlington County. Carol, thanks for the heads up, please be careful out there. Right now we head to delaware county. Our cameras caught few people Walking Around braving the wintery conditions here in prospect park. Just reminder for up, be careful out there. Also on the slick sidewalks could encounter some problems there. Also similar conditions in Montgomery County. This video coming into our news room overnight from Plymouth Meeting where you can see plenty of snow sticking to the grounds and also on parked cars, as well. Lets stay in Montgomery County with closer look at current conditions. We continue our Team Coverage on the storm with Eyewitness News reporter Steve Patterson, hes live in franconia township. How is it looking out there . Reporter franconia, me and my photographer singing the words to describe what the conditions are here, sloppy, messy, slushy, really the words we keep coming back to is just gross. Take a look around, the conditions people are dealing with, a good 4 inches solid on the ground. But plows have been through on the major inlet states, major roadways so the driving isnt too bad. Whats happening now though, some of the snow getting pack down to get to ground level right now. You can see how what you cant see really is how the rainfall we kind of slushy, snow mix is constantly in the air here. It is constantly wet out here. And so some of the snowfall is now kind of getting glossed over with the rain thats now coming in. As it gets a little warmer, it is 34 degrees right now in franconia. It must be the worse 34 degrees there can be at this point. We came in, it was a little bit slick as we were driving in and stopping, braking little tough. Again, most of the major roadways have been salted, have been plowed, the problem areas, especially as this snowfall continues to come down really, you cant really tell if it is a rainsnow mixture, will be the side streets, the overpasses, the bridges, the places where that are a little bit less traveled especially in these side streets here, in franconia, which tend to be very dangerous and in quite slick. Again, no accident on our way in, but youre seeing these cars come through these intersections, and you get a sense that if you dont slow down very, very soon, you could be in a little bit of trouble here. Thats the feeling that you get also on the road, as well. So well stick around, the only good news, i can report, is that this is excellent excellent packing snow. So if youre got the day off from school or work today well show but that in a little bit. But it is fantastic snow for just being out and enjoying the day try not to be out on the roadways on this stuff though. Live in franconia Steve Patterson, cbs3, Eyewitness News, back to you. Lots of snowball fights in franconia, kind of botched that early on, franconia township steve. Thank you. Also, seeing a lot of great pictures from you this morning, this eyewitness cam picture actually sent in from Kevin Williams in levittown. Now, when he took this shot, he says there was already about 2inch of snow on the grounds there. And were always on the look out for more great shots. If you have any would you like to share with us, sends them into Eyewitness News using hashtag cbs3 storm. Of course our live team three coverage continues until 7 00 here on cbs3 then after cbs this Morning Saturday we will have a special one hour edition of Eyewitness News from 9 00 until 10 00 this morning. Meteorologist, Katie Fehlinger, also Carol Erickson, will track the storm live for you right here on cbs3. A call for peace in bridgeton, new jersey, as authorities try to determine if a deadly policeinvolved shooting was justified. Dont move. We showed this dash cam video earlier this week, two officers shot and killed the pass inning nerve this car jerome reid, on december 30th. Bridgeton mayor albert kelly met with other city officials and religious leaders yesterday, to discuss that incident. Right now 5 13. And there is still much more to come here on cbs3 this morning. The cbs3 mobile weather flab south jersey this morning, the roads are wet of course slick spots are out there. You want to prepare for changing Road Conditions, as we move throughout the morning, well have much more on weatherrelated concerns. Stay with us, well be right back. And good morning to you, we continue our eye on the storm coverage right now penndot crews out in full force this morning after spending much of the day yesterday laying salt and preparing local roadways. Also, a look at conditions overnight, here in Chester County the cbs3 mobile weather lab sent this video back from devon where it was just a slushy mess there along lancaster avenue. And, over the bridge in cherry hill, new jersey, were seeing some very slick roadways here, as well. This is the corner every route 70 in south colonel avenue. Remember, just take it slow out there if you have to be out and about this morning. Speaking of those roads a rough ride in this morning katie. Oh, ya. I can tell you coming in from the suburbs. Understandable. My Biggest Issue not sure about you my beg he is problem, it was starting to turn over as we were driving in. That ended up meaning run through slush, puddle, it would coat the windshields. So for me ended up not as much travel for me personally as it was visibility. We will talk about that little bit throughout the morning too. But take a look, out in the live Neighborhood Network just pouring down the board right now, at the boardwalk plaza in rehoboth. We do have some pretty decent snow still falling here, as well off to the north. You can see the mixing taking place, that classic rainsnow line, very evident when you have got this much variety going on on storm scan3. But notice, there is also a little bit after back edge to this. So as we expected, the brunt of the storm came thankfully when a lot of people were already off the roads or even sleeping. So, if youre just waking up with us right now the worse i think, we can safely say is over in terms of what the storm has to dump on our area. Youre still going to have the aftermath issues, and farm from done with the whole thing. Look how much moisture still being fed in here. Basically what needs to happen, not the most organized storm youve ever seen, but see this storm actually just rotate away, and these additional bands are going to come in in its wake. So as we see the storm pulling away, we will probably see, you know, the day get punctuated by bands every rain ice snow, could still come through with that mixed bag. No one location will be definitely rain except for the shore, further inland, it will be cold enough could you see bit after variety throughout the day. We do still have these winter alerts. Look how far they extends all the way from north carolina, up the map and out to down east maine here. So you have winter storm warnings as well as Winter Weather advisory, also posted here, for the northern half of our area, essentially. Meanwhile, we take a look at the area temperatures, basically into the mid 30s right around that freezing mark. That is the key. Because were so close to that freezing mark, i would say just slow it down regardless of whatever is falling from the sky at this point. Because it could be cold enough at the surface as weve been hearing all morning that it is definitely slick. Off to the south look at the difference. 64 degrees in charleston, right now huge contrast between these air masses, once it gets out of here though we are goes going to see colder air move n walk you through future weather. 8 00 a. M. , might catch little break here. But there will again still be the extra lil rounds that roll through, another one comes in early afternoon it will probably be sort of the last gasp of the system, and then it clears out. So we are essentially in the clear by this evening and later on tonight. The breeze kicks in, but left with clouds, nothing more. Speaking of clouds, pretty low to the grounds. With that snow falling up at mount pocono, allentown visibility way less than ideal, so please keep that in mind. Just have to slow it down if you have to be out there. Little heads up for you here, guys. Dont bling. Might miss the break. Sunday night leading into monday, already next clipper system on the move, and it is coming with very poor timing this time around. This one bigger storm but this storm coming up here is very likely going to be a light snow producer, that bridges us probably few additional inches of accumulating snow. So rain, ice snow, will taper through the day today. Done with it by tonight. We drop down to 28 degrees. Then we look forward in this eyewitness weather seven day forecast really, weve gotten through one system already. Have to get through today. Then tomorrow night that clipper comes along obviously sends our temperatures on tumble here, as we have hard time even breaking out of the 20s monday, tuesday but will have light snow to deal with to kick start your week. Then although it does stay cold i think were in for at least some relatively quieter weather for good stretch of this upcoming week, definitely something to look forward to i guess could you say. Now certainly a very good time to download and use your cbs philly weather app where you can get live radar track the storms moving through the area, finds it for free right now on google play and itunes. Meteorologist, Katie Fehlinger is here with the latest coming up for you. Steve . Plus, snow in the suburbs ill show you what it is like one of the hardest hit communities here in Montgomery County and the plows are out. Were talking Winter Weather next. And steve, the cbs3 mobile weather lab is out on the roads checking on the latest conditions for us. Wet roads and plenty of slick spots well take you out there and show you also make sure you take it slow if you are planning to head out this morning. Today is saturday, january 24th, good morning to you, thanks so much for joining us, im Nicole Brewer in for a second straight weekend. Were dealing with this stuff katie. Yes. Rough one. This one is little different than last weeks was. We definitely have enough colder air in place but there is so much moisture out there. Weve really packed quite a bit of snow already, in some of these spots but starting to see the change over as you just mentioned on storm scan. Yep, so i want to gave you a sense of whats going on out there in your neighborhood. You know, because could totally depend. Sure. Depending on where you live. So true. Might have seen something start off one way ends up another way. We will show you whats happening first and for most here, just right at our very own window here off the rooftop we face south here center city. And the visibility pretty poor, if you are trying to take a look out at Liberty Place couple of stories up. Low clouds have really sunk in we do still have moisture out there as well, dow want to take you to another camera, we go next to the live Neighborhood Network outside whitt fields elementary school. School not in session here today, but if we did have school in session, i have a feeling they would canceled it with this mess out there. It is beautiful. Trying to travel through it, well hear reports on that coming up. Meantime, shear storm scan3 whats good go the view here, there is a back edge. So it does appear as though we are going to still have lingering rounds every moisture moving through in the next couple of hours but the brunt is moving on, and moving right along at this point through northern new jersey, and the eastern portion of the garden state. Now, we do still have our hands full, you know, the aftermath a lot of times can be just as bad as when you are dealing with the storm as it is moving through. But there is far less moisture in the wake of that first initial batch. So well still have these left over rounds, of i would say some ice some snow, some rain. Shot we still see lingering showers every all three but basically seeing the final totals starting to get stacked up here, in warwick, thus far we pick up just over 3 inches, in ewing, new jersey, 3 inches royersford, become g up two and a half, in haddon heights, over inch already. There are still Winter Weather alerts for southeastern p a and northern new jersey, then up toward the poconos obviously pink shade areas still winter storm warnings, and they remain in effect until 11 00 a. M. This morning. Otherwise, Winter Weather advisories still in effect for few more hours around the rest of the region shaded in the purple. At 34 degrees currently at the airport, thats critical number. Because we are so close and so marginal with freezing, around the region, as whole it could easily be slick out there, and that goes for everybody out at the shore in lying suburbs definately the urban corridor, up in the mountains, too. So every someone fair game for there to be slick travel today. Lucky there is comp on a weekends, but certain people obviously have to travel out in this. We definitely advise to you do so safely and cautiously, and as much as you can allow for extra time. But, any time today i think you could still see these additional rain or snow bands rolling on through, but thankfully i would say as we hit the evening things are going to finally be winding down. So thats definitely something to look forward to. But we may still have some precipitation to deal with in really through the early afternoon. But we do want to get a sense of whats happening out there on the roads. With that said, we continue our team three weather coverage and send things out. Katie we are on foster town road. This is in hainesport, new jersey and this is a road not major road, it is not particularly a minor road either. But it is one that doesnt get plowed nearly as often. So as you can see as we drive along and well try and maintain a very safe speed out here, you can see that the road is still slush covered. And this is so much of what you will find. If you have got major road, you will be swamped with cars throwing water just heavy cold wet slushy water onto your windshield. You get on to the smaller streets, and you find roads that you look at the grounds and go oh, whats that . Is that wet . Is that ice . What is it . And you really dont know. Because you can find some standing water over some ice. And thats part of the problem. You can see the red light reflecting right now on that. What is that under there . So this is the danger, and you come up to intersection, and the people who drive know this. You just dont dont know, how much do you slow down at this four way stop . Do you have the traction to go beyond that . Is the other guy able to stop . Youre supposed to stop. So we did. Now we move on through. And you can see we continue with these same kind of Road Conditions. Out here, in hainesport, very near the south jersey air park, where they measure the precipitation very carefully. Weve pick up about half inch of liquid equivalent. That was two and a half inches of some snow out here this morning. And now the wet weather comes on top of this. It is 32 degrees right now. Now, just went up to 33 degrees here outside in hainesport, on foster town road. But, you can see the problem that remains a 1 degrees temperature rise after the cold grounds that weve seen, and the snow and the rain that came down. It doesnt melt at that magic number. So icy conditions, underneath, definitely possible, a lot of ponding underneath any of this slush is also very, very likely. So this is going to be the way it looks in a number of locations, and ive been talking about my photographer, started out in collegeville, he had to use a shovel to get out of his driveway. The heavy wet snow out there was so bad he could not get his car out. Then he got stuck getting out of his neighborhood beyond that. And needed a shovel to get out. So depending on where you are you will be finding variety of conditions out there. And this is just one of them. A wet wintery looking road surface out here in hainesport headed to lumberton, new jersey. What a morning. Another one. But not as bad as it was last sunday morning nicole, as you know. I guess thats some good news carol thanks, stay safe out there. We move on right now more video coming in overnight. This is phoenixville, Chester County, weve seen throughout the area, a loft icy roads and sidewalks slick here, as well. Now the same story goes in willow grove, Montgomery County thick nation of snow falling throughout the morning certain enough to make the roads slick there as well. Reminder about school concellations today. You will see them at the bottom of your screen also on cbsphilly. Com. For now though we continue our Team Coverage on the storm in Montgomery County. Eyewitness News Reporter Steve Patterson is live in franconia township with more on conditions there, steve, good morning. Nicole, if you bear with me and take a walk with me, were in franconia, 113 and allen dale road. Really idealic the kind of weather in which you would love to see on like christmas morning, it is beautiful, it is just nice and white great packing snow. My photographer is finding out. It is here that is not the problem. In fact, the wet their came before this morning has been actually fairly okay. I mean, there is quite a bit of accumulation, as you see just by me walking through this kind of grassy noll here. But, 4 inches we got on the ground. Again, this is great packing snow weather the roads are actually pretty clearment take a look out here and you can see some of the work. Weve seen number every employs come through at least this intersection. The problem really that i guess katie and carol have been mentioning all morning the wet weather thats starting to come down over top of this. The problem is in the air. It is 35 degrees. Actually it feels a lit warm out here. The problem is that rain thats accumulating on top of the snow thats already fallen. You see this traffic coming through. Really is trying to take its time and pace themselves, as we come through the intersection, because does get dicey in places, side streets overpasses, the bridges, the places that dont get hit with salt and plows is regularly as this intersection does, not quite as well salted as well smoothed over as you see the employs, coming through. This is a site weve seen really all morning so major intersections, major thorough fares, have been fairly well treated. It is whats coming down as far as accumulation from the rain, thats over top of this kind of wet packing snow thats going to be the problem. And it is a mess as far as getting through some of these side street, especially, with the stuff thats coming down now. So again the problem is not really whats already on the ground, it is whats coming, and where many places have not been treated so well this morning. But again, it is great packing snow as my photographer has shown us this morning, it is fantastic if youre out here, in Montgomery County and you dont have anywhere to go, you can enjoy this, sit down, and not get on the roads. This is great. But were worried about again whats starting to trickle down as far as the rain thats over top and kind of gloss g over the roadways. It is slick in some spot. We had little problem getting into the parking lot. So just be careful if youre out on the roadway. Live from in franconia, Steve Patterson, cbs3, we send it back to you. Steve thanks. Of course Team Coverage all throughout the morning. But youre also helping us cover this mornings snowstorm. This eyewitness cam picture was sent in by b haze, from 17th street and cecil b. Moore avenue in philadelphia. See slushy sidewalks there as well. Now, always on the lookout for great snow pictures, if you have any you would like to share sends them into us use the hashtag cbs3 storm. Now, there are some delays and concellations, at philly International Airport. Our coverage continues now with diana from the airport shes live with us this morning, good morning to you diane watch can you tell us . Good morning, nicole. At this time, there are about two dozen flights arriving and departing that have been canceled. And there are also small number of other flights that are running a bit behind schedule. For the most part flights are operating as scheduled. Our runways are in good shape. Our crews were here all night plowing. And we have surfaces clear and ready for business. Some aircraft that were here overnight may need to be deiced prior to departure. And we are prepared to handle that. We are fully staffed. We expect normal operations today. There may be delays and flight impacts later on today as this storm is also affecting other airports along the east coast. So as always we recommend that anyone flying today check their flight stat with us their airline or by calling 1800phl gator checking the airports website phl. Org. Yes, thats always a good idea for folks headed out. They want to make sure there are the handful of flights being delayed and also concellations, so again 1800phl gate. Any other advice for people headed out to the airport this morning. As i said, our crews were here all night plowing and making sure that the runways and taxiways and Surface Areas were ready for business today. And, again right now as i said, there are some concellations, there are about two dozen concellations and there are some flight that are running a bit behind schedule. But right now most flights appear to be running on time. Again, it is important, if you have plans for flying today that you check your flight status with your airline and also if youre planning to come to the airport today to meet someone who was as living on an inbound flight, you should also check the flight status by making sure that the plane is coming in on time, and, again, you can do that by checking directly with the airline by calling 1800phlgate or check the airports website phl. Org. Diane, with the airport thanks for that update. Thank you nicole. Snow in some spots rain in the others. But also very slick conditions out there. Katie fehlinger is coming back with the latest on that forecast. Well be right back. Day or night, green circle or black diamond. For the experts like me. Theres something for everyone. So plan your next new york ski trip at iloveny. Com winter. 5 46. Dealing with snow for the second weekend in a row. But seems today isnt as bad right . It kind of depend on your location and what were you looking forward to maybe too. A lot of snow lovers really hoping for something out of. This and certainly not finding much of anything other than just rain down at the shore point this morning. Our live look on skycam 3, little shaky camera action going on here, too, in ocean city indicating at the shore point definitely got some of the wind kicking in out there in cape may county. Really up and down the area shore point. But, youre doing real well with snow this morning. The further north you reside, and the further north you travel. Well have your ski forecast coming up in a bit here. Next to storm scan, always good place to check in when you have this kind of werth. Look at the mixing taking place, exactly why it is so difficult as forecasters to peg these storms sometimes. When you have basically called the 540 line. All it means is that the difference between the rain and snow. Where does that change overtake place in the upper levels . And thats what weve got right over our area. Thats what made it a tough one this time. It wasnt the most well behaved storm either. But, now i can at least report, that the brunt of moisture, you see it all pulling away, in the last few hours, it is relatively speedy storm. But, boy does it have a loft moisture so basically seeing the high snow totals come already. And now we start to see that change overtake place, in a lot of spots. Still plenty of moisture work with. As this back edge here, thats basically now through with the southeastern portion of the Buckeye State in kentucky, as that rolls through we will have these additional left over rounds, that move through, as well, but i would say this is totally done by this evening. Now, dont bling. You might miss the break coming. High pressure briefly take control. Already the combination of some signs of life here over montana, into the canadian prairie, that will be the next system that moves our way. So future snow amounts looking ahead through just today, but looking ahead to more snow by sunday night at the earliest. Now, weve already seen again good batch of snow. So this is not taking that into account. This is future snow amounts. But notice where it falls. It could still fall even as far south as western chester upper bucks western montgomery counties here. So these are spots that still have Winter Weather advisories in effect until 8 00 a. M. We have also got winter storm warnings in effect tore couple of these spots too, for additional snow on top whatever weve already seen. Certainly, thick travel. Further southeast notice the totals didnt pick up anything mainly turned to ever rain at this point. Lets take you out on the roads, the weather lab will be out and about tracking everything, all of the different conditions we find just a look at what youll find 76, 95, turnpike, generally going to turn over to rain. If you saw snow, which many of these spots certainly did there will be slush left over. But it is very sloppy out there. If you know what im saying here ponding out there definitely a problem too meanwhile, with we go bit furl north, even still right now fine that snow out there roads, like i80 youre primarily dealing with snow penndot excellent at taking care that far roadway in particular because it gets snow a lot more often than say, you know, down along southern i95. But the northeast extension wet to the south, icier to the north, as you get up to the Lehigh Valley interchange with i78 and 22, so ice and rain expectation there more of mixed bag will take place. Look telling air of visibility, very obvious divide between this, as well, seeing mainly rain, or even little brake in the precipitation. The visibilities have risen very nicely, but still at a mile in allentown at the International Airport in mount pocono at 1. 3 miles. So with the snow still falling, and certainly with a little hint every wind out there enough to make the visibility drop off pretty readily. Notice the temperatures at least marginal with freezing everywhere. That is why were so wore bid that possibility of black ice and certainly just left over ice in general with this. As we go throughout the morning. Skiers rejoice, youll get little break with some sun by tomorrow, fresh round of snow already coming our way with that next clipper i mentioned a moment agoment quickly walking you through today, tonight, rain, ice and snow will taper with time, still have these left over rounds that come through in pockets mostly cloudy by this evening, though, done with the storm. Tomorrows quiet during the day, next round of snow comes by night fall. Then we are going to be dealing with pretty rough morning drive monday. Looking forwards in the forecast actuals, wednesday, should quiet down nicely, by thursday, we start to see little bit more after rebounds on the thermometer nicole, back to you. Katie, thank you. There is an important safety alert for travelers who use ecigarettes. The federal Aviation Administration says the electronic alternative to tobacco cigarettes can actually pose a fire risk.
