Just a shocking act of cruelty in south jersey where neighbors see a young mother setting her new born baby on fire. The details are breaking right now a as we speak. Eyewitness News Reporter Steve Paterson live outside st. Christophers hospital where the young victim was flown. This is a difficult one to get through, steve good morning. Reporter this is a very developing story a as we have been mentioning, details still coming into our news room still awaiting more information from police but what we can tell you at this point is that yes police are telling us a young infant was doused in a flammable substance and set on fire last night. We could show you video from the scene now this is simon town road in pemberton, new jersey. In the video showing investigators on the scene, early this morning. The sources telling cbs3 that at some point late last night shortly around 11 00 oclock neighbors witnessed the infants young mother screaming douse ago this child and setting it on fire. The the the child then flown to st. Christophers with second and third degree burns on 100 percent of his body. They were able to extinguish that fire and get that child some help. The child is here at st. Christophers. We are not sure on the the status or what the investigation will reveal as far as criminal charges but police are still working the the scene, again, very developing story, and we will be here all morning long to follow it and bring you the very latest. A 16 yearold is under a arrest this morning accused of stabbing another teen to death. It happened at fortysixth and Market Street friday afternoon. Police say an argument that beast again during lunch at West Philadelphia high school spilled in the after hours. Now the teen victim was rushed to Childrens Hospital but succumbed to his wound. Now for the the latest on the drug bust gone bad, police opened fire on a suspect they say tried to run down an officer to avoid an arrest. The it was a close call on 69th street in Delaware County. Eyewitness News Reporter diana rocco has details now from upper darby. The. Reporter a philadelphia man is in jail after trying to run down an Upper Darby Police officer on 69th street on friday afternoon. The female officer pulled her gun. She fires one shot at the vehicle. The shot enters through the window of the vehicle and the vehicle then knocks over two or three parking meters, and we had them boxed in we thought but he drove right up on the sidewalk. Reporter police were conducting a raid on the suspect who sold drugs to under cover on four separate occasions. He got away jumping this his car and ramming front door of the Furniture Store and then gunning for the officer. Police pulled him out of the car where the window was shot the out inside, bundles of heroin and semiautomatic weapons. On the suspect they found thousands of heroin and crack. We have loaded dope, we have a four buys gun, he will be in jail a long time. Reporter neither officer or suspect were injured in the incident. We are learning new details about a Temple University student who fell from a window this her death. Victim is 18 yearold rebecca kim. The Authorities Say she was visiting two male students at a Art Institute philadelphia dorm near 16th and chestnut when she fell from april 8 story window. Kim was a freshman pharmacy student. She was nice. She was sweet very local helpful, always smiling. She was real popular person. I could see her having a really good future. She seemed like a smart girl overall, a nice person. It is so sad to hear that happened. Just terrible. Kim felon top of the 44 yearold woman as well that woman suffered neck and back injuries and lost some teeth the but is expect to recover. Eyewitness News Reporter Natasha Brown traveled to dover to find out why the flu has made a big footprint in the first state. Reporter delaware may be a small state but it is being dealt a huge blow this flu season, the state is representing it 16th flu fatality, all but one death has been linked to seniors over 65 years old. It is a very severe flu season. Reporter paul silver man is Deputy Director of the Public Health department. He says although delawares cases have have listen significantly this year this flu epidemic knows inbound drizzle. We have good surveillance. Were more likely to be informed than some other states, but this is really an epidemic that is hitting the whole country. Reporter the state of delaware has been hites specially hard by this flu pandemic, this time last year they were dealing with a hundred cases. So far this year they are up to 1600 flu season is far from over. Sources are telling cbs3 the worst news shortly after 11 00 last night neighbors witnessed the infants young mother in her 20s as they say she was screaming dousing that child in some sort of a flammable liquid and then setting that child on fire. The child was flown to st. Christophers hospital with second and third degree burns over 100 percent of his body. They were able to put the flames out on that child and hopefully get the child some help although, we are not sure of his status. The at this point we are awaiting more word from hospital officials as well as a possible criminal investigation in this case.
