Three day long septa strike thats keeping buses, trolley, subway operators off the job and on the pick line. For now still no ends in site. Good afternoon, im rahel solomon. Im jim donovanment negotiations resumed between septa workers and transport workers union, Eyewitness News reporter greg argos live from the sheridan in center city where both sides are back to the bargaining table. Good afternoon, greg. Good afternoon, jim, rahel. Talks like you mentioned are ongoing, representative bob brady, who is helping out with these talks, told me, little while ago, that they resumed at 11 00 this morning, but once again, we are on day three, of this septa strike. Now recalling early yesterday, sources close to the talks say there was positive movement in them. But once again, no buses, no trolleys, no subways operatingment and if you were headed to work this a. M. , you saw just how congested the roadways were. Late last night, septa officials released this statement, calling on the union to engage in good fate negotiations. Septa officials wrote in part, quote on several occasion this is week, septa negative over ate ores believe progress toward deal has been made, how much, each of the seemingly positive, cwu used local 234 brought halt to the negotiations, minute ago the Union President willie brown disagreed, and released a statement on his own, saying, in part, quote, septas Bargaining Team and high price outside warriors stone walled contract talks for months, prior to the strike when the strike was called they didnt out area word for the first 16 hours. Make no mistake, as in we had accepted their terms prior to the strike deadline, our members would have taken homeless in their paychecks next year than they earn today. Roughly 5,000 Union Members walked off the job early tuesday morning, leaving hundreds every thousands of commuters and School Children looking for a different ride. And causing long delays on the Regional Rail portion of the system, whose workers are not part of this strike. There are some major sticking points, perhaps, the largest is pension. Septa says it has smith add entirely new plan, at the unions request, would increase the benefit for Union Members. Septa says it also offered wage increases, bringing the average employees annual earnings from about 68,000 to 76,000 over the five years of the proposal. So union wants better work rooms including more rest time between shift. Now, continuing into day three, commuters must look forward to another rough evening commute unless an agreement is met within the next few hours. Once again, like i mentioned, talks resumed around 11 00 this morning, septa Officials Say they though have everything resolved as soon as possible, they are at least asking the union to suspended strike on election day next tuesday, if the strike is still going on at that time. Eyewitness News Reporter justin finch shows us how theyre dealing with the strike. Come on, lets go, lets go. Roman catholic hi, getting too school in the midst after septa shutdown, one more than more than one answer, none easy. I couldnt even take that to get here the other day, my mom had to drive me. So she has to take off time from work, tan just sucks. Roman catholic student, philly metro to the campus, so septa buses, trolleys, trains, are a go, too, now down to the Regional Rails, and theyve been a tough go. Septa lines are huge. Like many schools, public and private, Roman Catholic changing its schedule for now. Bit of adjusted schedule, longer 20 minute homeroom or so, hopefully getting here on normal time, starting at 8 00 a. M. As negotiations evan flow between septa and local 234, about a thousand or so Roman Catholic student and their families are starting to think longterm. If this goes on more for than a week, how will it go . I dont know, really hard. Might have to walk to school. You cant walk. Ya. I imagine . And from the picket lines, down to the classrooms, there are high hopes that the union and septa can come to some kind of agreement sooner than later. In other news this noon, gruesome discovery, a body on fire is found bee night i76. Police were called to the scene in south philadelphia just before 2 30 this morning, the body was so badly burned, police arent sure if it is a men or a woman. Homeless people often stay in that area as of right now, police are unsure if the fire was intentional or an accident. Meanwhile, second suspect under arrest in connection with last months shooting in philadelphias rittenhouse fair square park. Eighteen year old reese nasir, and mehdi turned himself. In they are accused of trying to rob couple in the park when Good Samaritan intervened, was shot. Well, after a foggy start to the day, things are clearing up, at least for now, but showers could be moving our way. Depending where you have got some sun, little more cloud cover, it is making huge difference. Wait until you see the difference in the temperatures. But, you know, we are tracking cold front. Thats where i want to turn our focus first. Right now no raindrops here on the skydeck, but starting to see them already through the outlining suburbs of lancaster county, on the way, no thunderstorms to report just yet. But look at the temperature difference, anywhere from fill toy wilmington, talking nearly 10 degrees difference here. In wilmington, it is a little brighter. 77 degrees, right now, still only flirting with 70 here in the city but because weve got the clouds at the moment, you may not see the temperatures rebounds, too much more, so still going to keep our hyatt 76, see how we do, at least going to flirt with that. Mid sevens at the shore, expectation, but everybody will get in on shower at some point here today. We are going to track that in a bit more detail later in the broadcast. Potent cold front, though lack moisture, certainly has cold air behind it. So were facing a significant temperature drop, and also, a temperature drop thats going to last us a while. His ring allegedly supplied a majority, majority, of the drug dealers and drugs in camden. This afternoon, just as warm, if not even little warmer, depending where you are, but, this is also when the cold front crosses, we showed you the radar earlier in the broadcast, well bring it back up again. You know we could use the rain at this point, and it doesnt actually look like well get too much from it. We take you out to the to statistical information, january 1, at this point running pretty steep deficit, four and three quarter inches what we need to evening out average, and we are not going to get anywhere close to that here today, which is good. But we could use little more than what were actually going to get out of the front, and the brunt of the moisture actually bypassing us very clearly off to the north, so, it is not a front thats necessarily losing its steam, but it is decaying when it comes to some of the moisture content. So while there will be a shower, thunderstorm even, perhaps, along the way here, more than anything, this is a front that just has a legacy of knocking temperatures back, kicking up the win. As it clears out though in the wake of it tomorrow, we sit between areas of pressure, high to the west, low to the east, thats what pushes through now. The winds will be cranking out there at best we hit 06 degrees, factor in northwest wind, though, that will feel cooler as it tends to. The weekend nice and quiet. But, it is chilly. Only talking upper 50s, through saturday, sunday, and that will be a theme even into next week. Talk about the wind gusts very briefly though. Even front crossing through today, notice, 4 00 p. M. It continues through the rest of the day. So, it is a septa strike still on, you may find yourself outside waiting for taxi or uber with some pretty decent winds to contend with along the way. Future weather i think showing pretty well at this point. Appears west of the city may actually just bypass you later this afternoon, pick up shower, talking about philly specifically, everybody expect at least that possibility, throughout the rest of the day and toward evening. Through the overnight though, this is a front that will clear out and we will do the same overhead.
