All of this snow out of here, but in lot of neighborhoods in the city tonight, day two of cleanup still looks a lot like day one and that has frustration mounting. Nearly two daze days since the blizzard of 2016 stopped dumping snow and the cleanup may be underway. Just not fast enough for many in south philly. Cant go to work. Cant do anything. Cant go nowhere. Reporter sea of snow has trapped cars and stranded entire blocks south of washington. The city always for gets about us. Thats the way its always been in south philly. The streets are terrible even walk dag, you know, to doctors appointment it was terrible streets are terrible. Horrible much this is the worst weve seen it. Kathy heller got no response from 311 so neighbors on door four street spent 600 and hired their own plow her car stuck halfway down the block and her husband has to get to work in the morning. A lot of are people angry with the mayor. The city has been moving snow off main roads for more than 24 hours. The mayor says he understands the frustration. Its important to you and if youre not out yet youre frustrated and i recognize that. But we have to we have to go through this methodical way to make sure the city gets back to work as soon as possible. Reporter front end loaders are philly the dump trucks with snow and bringing it to five locations citywide this one broad washington. Fairmount most roads are waiting for those trucks. So in the meantime dan elliot grabbed a shovel. I have work on wednesday and kind of tired taking the subway already. Instead of tossing it in the street hes using garbage can to unload out of the way of cars or the employee he hopes is coming soon. I was going to go to the gym after this but i got my workout in. Theyre concentrating on the mape roads and theyre going to the secondary and side roads also the Parking Authority will not be charging at meters and kiosks again tomorrow. Septa says several region rail trains canceled tonight due to manpower issues but most bus routes are back on track many of them are work wig detour in the aftermath of the storm. Broad street and market frankford lines are running on or close to schedule. Septa does warn there could be parking issues at some rail stations from all the snow. Operations are largely back to normal tonight at Philadelphia International airport. Most flights arrived dean parred on time today. That was not the case over the weekend. On saturday, American Airlines canceled all flights and scores of flights were canceled at other airports on the east coast affected by the storm. Amtrak says service between new york and washington is about 80 restored this evening. The rail system is still operating on modified schedule and travelers are urged to check their train status on amtraks website. Massive cleanup effort underway at the jersey shore. This weekend storm brought not only snow but also coastal flooding and beach erosion from many much of cape may county. Several shore experienced record flood levels in North Wildwood as many as 150 people had to be rescued from their homes and for some it was like reliving hurricane sandy. We got hit in scene little bit, and we just got hit a little harder this time. So the rugs that were new and the floors were new are coming back up. Theres been one county thats flooded in the state. One county that was cape may county. Temperature wise 29 at the morning in the city. 26 in allentown. 27 in reading. Not as big of a concern in our south and east suburbs down the shore temperatures well above freezing it will be cycle well be seeing through the next several days. Temperatures in the afternoon get above freezing the snow begins to melt but we go back below freezing pretty much every night this week. So any of that snow melt refreezes and causes black ice and concerns on the roadways. In addition to that weve got fog to tell you about and here comes our next system. Kate, see in you a bit, thank you. Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has lurched a review of its response to the total standstill on the road during this weekends snowstorm. More than 500 cars, trucks and buses were stuck on a 16mile stretch near pittsburgh when that storm hit. Vehicles there did not move for more than 24 hours. The turnpike chairman has apologized and says all tolls for stranded drivers will be refund the. The snow took a heavy toll at a church in downingtown causing the roof to cave in. Chopper three over the scene. This happen at the calvary fellowshifellowship church. The pastor drove flew the blizzard after learning the sprinklers had gone off inside the church. When he arrived he found the roof collapsed and the churchs 1100 seat auditorium. Crews are working to secure the structure while repairs can be made. And the pastor says its just a minor set back. To me, how we respond and enter act with each other and how we interact with god is way more important than a hole in the roof. Fortunately no one was injury in that collapse. The Elmwood Park Zoo is dealing with significant damage from this weekends snowfall. Chopper three over the scene in norristown the birds of paradise exhibit has partially collapsed. The good news all the animals were in a separate building and were not harm. And the big dig out continues tonight in allentown. Officialing the city got nearly 32inches of snow. Thats a record breaker. All of that snow, though, is pose ago real challenge to road crews trying to clean it all up. Secondary roads are still under feet of snow. Allentowns mayor asked for patience and also help urging contractors who want to help to contact the city. Other parts of the east core are digging out as well n washington, d. C. Huge mounds of snow are piled next to the Roads Conditions are still so treacherous that schools and federal government buildings will remain closed until wednesday. The district is warning residents to be patient and stay safe. The nations capitol got 24inches of snow and the cleanup could take days. In new york city, crews are so overwhelmed that the city is now hiring people to shovel. Theyre looking for anyone 18 years of age or older whose able to work and paying 13. 50 an ho hour. The snow certainly causing a lot of problems but it was an oil spill that prompted officials to shut down a portion of the Schuylkill River trail in philadelphia. Of that, about 250 gallons actually made it into the river. The icy water helped contain some of the spill which did not affect drinking water. Crews hope to have the mess cleaned up later this week. A little girl from buck county continues to inspire four months after a surprise kiss from pope francis put her in the spotlight. Tonight we are hearing from her doctor for the first time. Eyewitness News Reporter david spunt has been following the story and has the latest on the little girl who will not give up. Reporter it was happen penn stance pope francis blocks from Independence Hall stopped his motorcade to kiss little gianna on her head. Little did he know that now famous kiss was just centimeters from a brain tumor shes fought since birth. I cried. That was the parents telling their story to Eyewitness News a day after the kiss. We met them again in november after they learn her tumor slang so much its barely visible on her latest mri. Gianna continues continues to make progress every day. Were just trying to maintain the normal life. The family feel positive energy as they approach another mri. Scheduled for neck week. Hopefully well continue to see more progress. Theres no magic bullets when youre going through this kind of stuff. As long as youre Going Forward and it slow steady progress. Her brain tumor isnt a typical brain tumor. How rare is her condition . Her condition is really rare. Dr. Shaw is her doctor at Childrens Hospital of philadelphia. Gianna suffers from a blood disorder that typically causes lesions on the skin. Hers is not only in her brain, but on the brain stem. Making surgery impossible. Dr. Shaw says gianna is one of about 40 people ever recorded to have this specific condition. Right now her treatment is chemotherapy. Once a month. I see her with a smile on her face and playing with her parents and really just a very very loving child. Reporter the family almost didnt go see pope francis worrying gianna might get sick they called dr. Shaw who gave them the go ahead. I dont think any of us realized that this was going to be the out come. An out come that played on Television Screens across the globe. I think francis is a living saint to us he gave a sign that god is with us through this entire journey. Journey the family hopes to turn into something positive for other families. Theyre in our prayers every single day but we just we want to do more. Now the family is doing more. They set Newspaper Foundation in giannas game her middle name is grace and for the love of Grace Foundation is a nonprofit aimed at raising wearness for his tee yo sigh ptosis and brain tumors. Everyone says, you know, shes blessed to have us but i think were blessed to have her. I have met gianna three times in four months and ive seen so many positive changes with little gianna. Her vocal cord is working again much she started to hear again. And guess what . She just has more energy than ever before the family wants to peak sure that everybody out there knows just how thankful they are for their prayers. New Jersey State Supreme Court ruled today against cocktail waitresses at the borgata refusing to review their case. Anything that looks wet on the roads tonight or early tomorrow morning thats going to be ice.
