What a historic day this has been for our city just about an hour and a half ago we had hundreds of thousands of people packing the parkway here. This man hitch hiked here from more than 3,000 miles away on the hopes of receiving a special papal blessing. I have a sister whos ill and i come here to pray for her and the evidence of the earnestness of my prayer. And thats why i hope to get out of it and maybe a miracle for her. Thats what she needs. Were here because we would like to meet pope francis. In rome theres tradition where newlyweds can come wedding a tire and get to meet the pope. We were hoping that wed be able to do that here in philadelphia. Reporter thats why Blake Robinson and christina his bride of one month tuck in the massive crowd. Its been great. So much fun. Everybody is like, wants to take pictures with us. There was a little girl who thought he was a princess. The pope was here in philadelphia. It was amazing. I think it will be even more amazing when we attend mass tomorrow. Pope francis real sal beacon. Hes a star. Hes shining star. Reporter and back here live, the parkway was filled with people. Now that its packed with trash you can see thats expected of course when you have tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people who were gathered here just about an hour or so ago. He challenged those in attendance to strength they are churches and communities through faith. This does not mean relinquishinrelinquishing the sl authority with which we have been entrusted, rather, it means discerning and employing wisely the manifold gifts which the spirit pours out upon the chur church. Pope francis also called on the church to inflict higher value on woman. Well have more on dids mass coming up in our next half hour. The first moments of the popes day in philadelphia were especially emotional for one family who received a rather unexpected blessing. As pope francis came off the plane and began greeting those who were there to greet him on his arrival, he started doing the thing we know him best for now the unscripted moments but the ones that are more often the most moving he got out of his car to bless 20 yeared Michael Keating who has Cerebral Palsy and while his family says the disorder took his ability to speak or move, they say he felt something at that special moment. The fact that the pope kissed him on the head and blessed him is something that i would have never imagined possible for any of of my children. Looked up to him and after he blessed him he started smiling. To see this their emotion was the same as mine. They took it for what it was, and just theyre going to remember this. Other people who welcome the pope on his heft rick rival included governor tom wolf, mayor Michael Nutter and Police Commissioner charles ramsay. I had a chance to speak with a couple of people. Well play that sound in a second, but one of the women i spoke her name is sister constance shes from Little Sisters of the poor in washington, dc. And she met the pope. He came to the elderly home where she work just few days ago. I want to you hear what sister constance had to say about surprisingly meet pope francis when he walk in to her home. He just walk in the back door of our chapel out of his car into our chapel and we were all applauding he just started spontaneously going from sister to sister to shake each ones hand ton speak to us. I saw the pope going down the, you know, this roadway right here. Reporter what did you think . It was worth it. I just looked and they said, i wanted to see a man with love in his eyes. I am about to celebrate my 50th anniversary of being a sister on they thought the last pope i saw was pope john the 23rd when i was only 14 years old.
